Satellite L20: Installed 1 GB of RAM, but OS see 894MB RAM

Hello

I have 2x512mb ram installed in my Sat L20 but system says I only have 894 MB of ram, this means that there is some kind of problem? Thanks for your help.

If the video card uses system RAM to increase the VRAM, then it is normal.

Run dxdiag and look in the graphics section.

    * 1 GB Kingston DDR2 667 Mhz 1 GB DDR laptop 2 NB RAM *.
    * Hynix 1 GB RAM DDR2 5300 s - computer notebook memory 667 MHz *.
    * ASint 1 GB DDR2-667 PC2-5300 PORTABLE 200 pin MEMORY *.

    Already now I have 512 DDR2 667 Mhz

Or any knows from where can I update the correct RAM?

    Hello

Theoretically, you can use all modules store because all the modules to meet specifications, DDR2-RAM, 1 GB, etc. for example.

In your case, I'd take the Kingston RAM. I've never heard ASint RAM, but I have good experiences with RAM Kingston. I always use Kingston RAM to upgrade my notebooks and never had any problems.

Last but not least, you can also buy RAM of an authorized service provider.

    Hello

The L20 Sat came with different hardware specifications.
The wireless network is optional. The aircraft was not equipped with WLan modules, but there is a possibility for an upgrade.

As far as I know the WLan slot must be placed at the bottom of the device!

Satellite L20 is an oldie and page European driver Toshiba does not provide drivers for Windows 7
You must search for the driver on your own hand.
Maybe you can get the driver on the graphics card manufacturer page.

By the way; drivers for Win XP, you can find on the European driver Toshiba page but in the Archive. You need to choose in the first option of product Type: Archives

  • Extend the RAM of my Satellite L20-181

    Hello world!

I have a problem and hope to resolve it here, with your help... so:

I have a toshiba satellite L20-181, model PSL2XE... and I want to add more RAM.
The guide says that only the PC2700 and PC2100 are compatible; but surprise... I installed a memory module on the system (from the factory) with the following tag: 256 MB PC2 - 4200 s-444-12-C3... so a PC2-4200. Now I am confused... what type of memory should I use?
    Thank you very much!
    N.

    Hello

You must use the modules DDR2 with minimum of 533 Mhz. I googled for your type and the chipset is an ATI chipset in need of DDR2 RAM.

And the concern of Don t for the timings, it should be OK despite all the modules you use, because almost all of the modules available to consumers have ALMOST the same timings...

    Welcome them

  • Upgrading RAM on satellite L20-217

I have a satellite L20-217 and I'm looking to upgrade my ram 256 to 2 GB (or at least 1 GB). I did some research but I am still confused about this module (s) to buy and how to install it. I'm new on this and I will be very grateful if anyone can advise me on what to do, thank you.

PS: Is it possible to switch from a celeron M to a dual core processor?

    Hello

    Man of good news:

The L20 can be upgraded up to 2 GB!
    Please visit this page;
    http://www.orcalogic.co.UK/ASP/ProdType.asp?ProdType=31173&ft=m&St=3

    You simply DDR2 533 MHz (PC2-4200) 200 - PIN SODIMM bars!

Module slots are placed at the bottom of the unit.
There must be only one screw removed and you will see two slots!

The replacement is not very delicate and must be described in the manual very well!

With regard to the replacement of the CPU:

The replacement of the CPU is very delicate and particularly is not possible for different reasons!

    Hello

I agree with Akuma L20 supports a SATA controller and you need and 2.5 SATA HDD.
Usually it s no matter which manufacturer is all 2.5 SATA hard drives must be compatible

With regard to the 48-bit LBA:
As far as I know that this could be just a problem with HDD IDE (P - ATA). SATA HDD should not be affected. So, theoretically, you could upgrade the HARD disk using larger than 128 GB.

    Regarding the upgrade of memory:
    http://www.orcalogic.co.UK/ASP/ProdType.asp?ProdType=20683&ft=m&St=3

    You need DDR2 533 MHz (PC2-4200) 200 - PIN SODIMM and you can use 2 x 1 GB RAM

  • HARD disk space reduced after upgrade of RAM on my Satellite L20

    Hello

    I upgraded my Satellite L20-120 to memory 2 GB of Ram (2 x 1 Go DDR2-Ram),
but this seems to my 1 GB free hard drive space. If I use my old 1 GB Ram
(2x512MB DDR2-Ram), the add.1GB is available again. OS is Win XP Pro.

Everyone does now the reason to this?

    Thanks in advance.

According to the specifications of your Satellite L20 follow Rams:
    DDR2 400/533 256 MB (PA3389U - 1 M 25)
    512 MB DDR2-400/533 (PA3412U - 1 M 51)

  • Satellite L300-145 - BSOD appears if I installed 4 GB of RAM

    Hi all

I have this Satellite L300-145 PSLB0E-03601LPT and I want to install 4 GB of RAM, but when I install 4GB on boot THEN BSOD appears.

I try to change with the other memorys brand with equal modules, I'm trying to install Windows 7 64 bit, Linux 9.10 64 bit and it the same things. I try too update the BIOS but it the same thing.

I think it's remapping feature memory on bios but does not have this option.
So what I have to do?

    My laptop has now 3GB
    CPU: T2390 1, 533 Mhz 86Ghz
    CHIPSET: GM965
    RAM: 2 GB DDR2 at 533 Mhz
    HDD:Hitachi 200 GB

    After upgrade
    CPU: T8300 2.4 GHz, 800 Mhz
    RAM: 2 GB DDR2 667 Mhz
    HARD drive: Seagate 7200.4 250GB

    I really need 4 GB

    Hi mate,

I m really confused now. As a first step, you wrote that you get BSOD if you upgrade to 4 GB, but the specifications after the upgrade are really different. You have a new CPU, RAM and HARD disk with another specification.

Anyway, at first I checked the specs on the Toshiba website for your laptop and this model can only be upgraded to 2 GB; not 4 GB!
This means that you can only use two modules of 1 GB in this notebook.

Sorry, but you will not be able to use 4 GB in this model of laptop.

  • Satellite L20-182: after installing the OS only USB 1.1 not 2.0

Hello, I am an owner of the model Toshiba Satellite L20-182.
Recently I did a format disk and installed Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2.

Unfortunately, the system detects USB as a version 1.1.
I find anywhere USB 2.0 drivers.

    Could you help me?

    Hello

Why suggest that you have only the USB 1.1 and USB 2.0?

To my knowledge you will not find any special USB Toshiba drivers Toshiba page.
Each unit of Toshiba uses the current Microsoft Windows USB drivers and it s not necessary to install the special USB drivers.

I assume that you have installed the operating system from the original CD of Microsoft and not the Toshiba back CD. Am I wrong?
In this case you must install all Toshiba drivers that are available in the right order. The chipset utility is very important! Generally, the chipset must be installed at the first stage.

Please also check this Microsoft documents:

Availability of the updated Windows XP SP1 USB 1.1 and 2.0
    http://support.Microsoft.com/?kbid=822603

When you install Windows XP Service Pack 2, the USB 2.0 drivers do not appear to be updated

  • Re: Satellite Pro L300D - 11O 800 MHz RAM installed, only to 667 MHz

I recently bought a Satellite Pro L300D-11O, which has a single stick of 1 GB 800 MHz RAM installed. However this RAM work only at 667 MHz. I checked this in Linux and Windows Vista.

The laptop is announced as to have 800 MHz RAM on this page:

    http://UK.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/innovation/JSP/SUPPORTSECTION/discontinuedProductPage.do?service=UK&BV_UseBVCook ie = Yes & PRODUCT_ID = 1055796

The manual of the user who wrote:

"PC2-6400 memory module works as PC2-5300 speed the GL40 Express Chipset Express chipset/GL965"

I don't know what chipset I have, and it would be surprised that this would be the case that the above Web site explicitly states RAM 800 MHz.

    Can someone tell me please?

    Hello!

Now I'm a bit confused of Mr. I think you did search in the wrong user's manual because the Satellite L300D has no Intel chipset.
On the Toshiba site, you can download the manual for Satellite L300D:
http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com-online downloads support & -online download user manual

I think that your chipset only supports 667 MHz. normally the RAM always works on the highest speed that is supported by the chipset.
Check the specifications with Everest or PC Wizard 2008.

  • Satellite A200-1hv - 4 GB of RAM but system see only 3.1 GB

    Hello

I have the problem. recently, I bought 4 GB of RAM for my Satellite A200-1hv but system see only 3.1 GB.
And yes I have tested also on 64-bit vista 64 and Linux 64 systems. In both cases, it shows only 3.1 GB.

Also when I boot my laptop on the BIOS POST screen it test only 3.1 GB of RAM memory not 4 GB.
The funny is that when I enter in the BIOS setup, and then in the main settings tab, it shows 4GB.

    Why?
In the specification, it is written that this laptop supports 4 GB of RAM, but it is NOT!

Have you tried to update the BIOS?
    Please do!

Check if you are using the latest version, and if not then update the BIOS to the State.
