Satellite L40-139 can boot from a USB device?

Hello

I have a new L40-139. Looking through the BIOS I can't find an option to boot from a device USB like a USB HDD or USB flash drive. Could someone confirm if the L40-139 can boot from USB and is thus the configuration of the BIOS for this.

If she can not someone knows if there are plans for a BIOS update that would allow this?

I must admit that, although I love the L40, I am disappointed how to limit the BIOS is.

Thank you

R

Hello

I'm not 100% sure, but as far as I know, you cannot use USB HDD as first boot device. USB floppy Yes, but with external HARD disk drive, it won't work.

I have a Toshiba Satellite L40 - 139 that comes with vista installed!
A month ago, I installed XP and it worked well!

Yesterday I had to reinstal XP and I chose clean instal CD and an installation process, I pressed the button to open the dvd player and you finish her!

Stupid mistake! From there if I try to boot Windows from a dvd player and the process stops at: check the configuration of your hardware! - and white screen!
    Nothing happens!
    What can I do?

Evrything else seems to work ok!
There is no problem with dvd player, because he reads a recovery for vista CD!
    Help, please!

This is a really silly situation. I'm sure that this info on the suspended installation is recorded in the MBR. I recommend you do the drive clean HARD everything including MBR.

After this try to reuse the CD of Windows XP Home edition installations.

  • Portege A100 PPA10A - update the BIOS to boot from a USB device

    Hello

I have an old Portege A100, model: PPA10A-0002LP, but I can't seem to find this model on any Web site of Toshiba, closest I've seen is the "PPA10A - 0002 L'.

I am wanting to know if there is a BIOS update that will allow me to boot from a USB device.

The question I have is that I need to reinstall Windows, but the CD ROm cannot read disks.
This network PXE boot, but I'm new to this sort of thing and have absolutely no idea what to do here.

    Any help would be great,

    Thank you

    Hello

Portege A100 seems to be developed solely for the Australian market.
As you say it is a model number Portege A100 PPA10A - 0002L listed on the Australian page of Toshiba Portege A100 PPA10A-0002LP belongs to the same series which is PPA10A
So in my opinion, the BIOS should work too.

Anyway, I doubt that the BIOS update will add boot options.

Usually the BIOS supports booting from CD/DVD drive, drive HARD, LAN and USB FDD.
It should be possible to boot from a boot disk using a USB FDD drive.
I doubt you'd be able to boot from USB WEIRD since this Portege A100 supports an internal CD/DVD drive.

  • Satellite A200 - I can boot from PCI express card?

    I have a laptop A200.

I recently bought a PCI expresscard HD. Many people have asked this question already on many sites and regarding several different brands and models of laptops. According to anadtech and other techys the only way to do an ExpressCard hd is updated the BIOS. During the installation of Windows it says that it canoe on the device because the BIOS is not able to boot from it.

Toshiba creates a new BIOS to allow starting the expresscard hd or not Toshiba have a laptop model that will allow already, as im thinking of buying a new laptop but only if this option is available.

There someone using windows vista/xp knows a way round.

    Hello

As far as I know it s not possible to boot from PCI express card on Satellite A200.
In addition these books where you can boot from this slot are not known to me. Only the options HDD, CD/DVD, USB and network, but all that s.

In addition, I put t know what you mean with PCI expresscard HD.
    Is what exactly?

  • Re: Satellite L40-139 - 10 error code in the Device Manager on the wireless network card

I have a toshiba satellite L40-139 and I just instaled windows 7 64 bit on it. Since that time my atheros wireless device will not work. I tried updating the driver and windows but nothing.
In the device manager says code 10 DEVICE can NOT START.

    Help, please!

    Thank you!

    Hello

    If you read here:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/943104

The Code 10 error code is generated when the Device Manager has not enough information or error that spread upwards by device drivers is not recognized by Device Manager.
Then, go to the page of the driver and update the driver. If you do not have to win 7, try the vista driver.

  • Qosmio G20: Possible boot from a USB device?

    Dear all,

I am writing for you good people was whether it is possible to start a Qosmio G20 via a connected USB device, an external hard drive.

I wonder if it is taken in charge (or tolerable) within the limits of the current Qosmio G20 BIOS and/or if any could attempt on my part to make taken in charge (i.e. are there buttons I can push levers, I can pull or numbers I can play to get there).

The reason why I have is that my laptop has a multitude of technical difficulties that point to the hardware failure, among them a vertical line on my screen and a problem with my optical drive, making it impossible for me to write a CD or DVD.

In the unlikely event that the good folks at Toshiba support are forced to replace the hard drive (or the system) it would be nice to have a way to restore the system to its current configuration (in this sense, I'm looking for a way to create my own bootable recovery disc produced) however the lack of functionality in the Department of optical drive ties my hands a little (I can't create a recovery of) product custom CD/DVD but I might create a product on my external HARD drive recovery partition).

Thus, it would be useful to be able to boot from a USB, not essential of course as any disk image could be comfortably written to disk through my soon-to-be renovated system (of course it would be quicker to start just by the USB bus and avoid all this nonsense).

    Sincere greetings,
    Lee Hyde.

    Hello

I am sorry to say that you will not be able to boot from the external USB HDD. The BIOS does not support this feature.
According to different threads here in the support of forum Toshiba Qosmio G20 BIOS supports these devices to start:
Floppy USB drive, 1st/2nd HDD, ODD, network (LAN)

As you can see it s possible to floppy USB FDD but not the USB external HDD

  • Satellite Pro P100 - cannot boot from external USB DVD

My internal DVD player on my Toshiba Satellite Pro P100 failed, and my windows is broken.
So I bought an external DVD drive to boot from, so I can recover the system using the product recovery DVD.

Now, he actually goes ahead and starts from the DVD. But once in the setup it gives me the message: "ERROR: file Setenv.ini D:\Setenv.ini or X:\Tools\Setenv.ini not found!

So I went ahead and checked if the file was... it was... but it is on Drive E:\ (probably because it's a USB device I'm starting from)

-J' did some research and found that I needed to run the command: X:\tools\recogui /FE: say the recovery my files were actually on drive E:-which has helped a little... until I got a new error where it was always looking for the *. TPA file on drive D: eventhough I have via recogui had specified otherwise.

Now what do I do to understand everything is to the recoveryprocedure on drive E: and not D:, as he seems to think?

As I am in the middle of a period of review, quick response would be GREATLY appreciated :)

    Bad new boyfriend!
Boot from external DVD USB drive is NOT possible!

You can start only from the inside, ODD, HARD, LAN disk and external USB FDD (floppy)

  • Satellite A100-405: after ranging from sleep USB devices will work

When I bought my laptop about a month ago, I received a message on the peek at the energy of usb hub (I hope it's the right translation, because I have a Dutch version) whenever I have start from standby mode.
On the windows site, he said that you can turn off this message, so I did.
But now when I start the laptop to sleep, my usb devices no longer work.

Can someone please help me solve this problem. Or can someone tell me if it is a hardware problem that can't be solved by returning the laptop for Toshiba?

    Hello

You must update the BIOS again! There is a new version 5.20 !

This should fix any problems that may occur after the update to version 5.10 of Bios.

Please come back and to report if this procedure has helped or not! Good bye

Is it possible to upgrade the Celeron M520 processor to a dual core 2?

    Hello

No it s not from the platform you have was not intended for a dual core processor. And even if the motherboard would be able to do it, then you won´t tools (especially as software sweet little tool to write the CPU microcode) to adapt to the CPU for your system.

Sorry dude, a lot of people was here before you and had already asked. Each time the same answer. :/

  • Satellite L40-139 and WXP - how an audio device to work?

I recently reinstalled Windows XP on my laptop and after having managed to download the drivers for my wifi video ect I arrived to the sound I have downloaded the driver but it still does not that my laptop doesn't show any recorded audio device. How can I make them work?

That's what I see when I got to his http://i47.tinypic.com/25u04ds.jpg

    Hello

On Windows XP, you must install the two updates for your sound card:
    AUDIO Patch1: Http://support.microsoft.com/kb/835221 KB835221
    AUDIO 2 Patch: KB888111 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/888111

Alternative you can install SP3 because it contains these patches!

But before installing, remove the current sound driver. The driver must be installed after Windows updates.

I want to reinstall xp. I have original xp.my laptop has no cd rom device.where I can download xp, so I can boot from a USB?

original title: install windows xp without CD

    Andrea,

First of all. You cannot reinstall Windows XP without CD.
Second, a download of Windows XP isn't illegal, I don't think you will get all the answers here to know where to download a copy of Windows XP.
Better call the computer manufacturer instead.

    Hello

We will determine if your PC can not even boot from USB devices.  Plug the USB and turn on your PC.  When you get to the HP splash screen, then start typing the escape key to bring up a boot selection menu. If you do not see the USB device then your PC can't boot from a USB device.

If your PC does support booting from a USB device and then read this MS post article.

You always have the option to start Windows Defender from a CD or a DVD.
