Satellite M30: 1.8 Ghz CPU stuck at 598 MHz

Hello

My CPU is stuck at 598 MHz. I think it has been like this since I bought it 2 years ago. I am in Australia at the moment and very rude support could not help.

I did a search in google and got a few answers, but nothing helped. I tried to change the management settings power, BIOS settings, BIOS upgrade, etc.. Nothing! The CPU runs at a max of 598 Mhz

Any ideas. I heard that there is a utility that could solve this problem, but toshiba has taken off the Web site for any reason

Andrew

No, no update of the utility or the BIOS update will help.
It seems that the firmware must be updated on this laptop.

For the most part this microcode update is necessary after the replacement of the motherboard.
I think that there is without a lot of do you contact the service partner in your country for the microcode update

The answer is here... thanks all and who is responsible for:

The key is a utility called 'pom200t1 '.

    You will need the following.

A floppy disk or if you do not have an external floppy drive, or if you are common sense to be able to boot a file from a CD player.
You must also WinImage, as all files that you download come as .ima files
    Download pom200t1 - V1.5.zip and pom200t1.zip (if if doesn't work either).

    You can find them here:

http://www.stormpaintball.com/Toshiba/pm765.bin (this one is a ditch last attempt).
Then follow the instructions on the site I posted before:

Symptom: CPU remains constantly 598 MHz.

    * Process: *.

    (1) boot in the BIOS. (Press "Esc" during the boot process, before the loading of the operating system, but after having entered your password, if you use the startup password protection).

    2) look under 'Other' category.

    (3) if the motherboard does not have enough information about the CPU, the category 'Dynamic CPU frequency Mode' appear on (you won't see it).

If the laptop is in this state that he won't ever faster than 598 Mhz until you perform the following procedure.
Note: Although this utility said it's for a Toshiba Portege M200, the particular difficulty you need may work on other Toshiba laptops.
He has worked on 3 different Toshiba Satellite Pro M15 S405s, but * USE at YOUR OWN RISK *.

    (1) start Windows and create the startup disk in the pom200t1.exe file.

    (2) boot from the diskette you just made.

    (3) in the menu, select the initial repair option 2 "set config".

    (4) in the following menu, select option 1 'Initial cofiguration"(misspelled)

    (5) after a few seconds, you should see "Writing a file is over!" and the laptop restarts automatically without asking for confirmation.

    (6) when restarting the laptop go back into the BIOS and look under 'Other' category. You should now see the "dynamic CPU frequency Mode". Make sure it is set to "Dynamically switchable" for the CPU limitation.

    7) restart Windows and make sure that the CPU can throttle in normal conditions. The Intel SpeedStep technology icon should now be in the systray. Go to the Toshiba power management / Power Saver Properties and update all of your methods to save power to use technology SpeedStep that you prefer (fixed or automatic) and mount all caps speed processor, or you can go above 798 MHz because cursors will always be to their previous settings (4 or less), while they can now go up to 7. Let me know how you go.
I have fixed the CPU now just need to find out why my fan only works when I activate it manually!

  • High temperature CPU on Satellite M30

    Hello

I have a Satellite M30 852 with Pentium M 1.5 GHz processor. My problem is that the heater does not start until the CPU temperature reached 70 degrees, which I think is a bit high, no mention that when it has reached this temperature I can not keep the laptop on my legs because it burns... and also to kind of warm around the touchpad and left side of the keyboard.

My question is if there is any software I can use to take the cooler start at low temperatures, to keep, or if there is no setting I can adjust the laptop utilities to solve this problem (in addition to throttle CPU cooling where is defined in the performance).

    Thank you all in advance!

Could PS: Anyone tell me which button support when starting, to get into the BIOS...? Because the F1, esc or del does not work.

Post edited by: master of ceremonies

    Hello

The temperature of 70 ° C nothing unusual and in my opinion not too high.
Is that it s not recommended to use the laptop on your legs or in bet, etc.
You should always be sure that there is enough free space (left, right, bottom) around the laptop for the circulation of fresh air!

Usually, the Toshiba power saver controls the cooling method and the CPU processing speed. If you want to change some settings you should the fact in the basic power saver menu.

PS: on m30 the phoenix BIOS has been installed and therefore, you should use the F2 key.

  • Upgrade CPU on Satellite M30 106

    Hi people

    Could with help please?

Just got an old Toshiba Satellite M30-106, a few weeks ago and [to be fair] it works OK with xp on it. I bought another 2 gig DDR which brings speed wise difference, but I can move the processor to the Intel® Pentium® M processor 725 1.60 GHz FSB: 400 MHz, 2: 2 MB level cache that s in there earlier?

Can she take a CPU more high if so what s the highest? Would be very graciously tips please.

    Thanks in advance...

At first, I must say that I agree with you that this laptop will work with Windows XP Home edition. At least this laptop model is designed for Windows XP Home edition. ;)

I found some info on the processors on Satellite M30:
+ The Satellite M30 computer is equipped with a processor Intel Banias who +.
    + integrates mathematical co-processor, memory 64 KB of L1 cache and a 1 MB L2 cache.
+ memory. The processor works with one of the following speeds: +.
    + Processor Intel Banias 1.40 GHz (1.35v) / 1.20 GHz (0.85V) +.
    + Processor Intel Banias 1.50 GHz (1.35v) / 1.20 GHz (0.85V) +.
    + Processor Intel Banias 1.60 GHz (1.35v) / 1.20 GHz (0.85V) +.
    + Processor Intel Banias 1.70 GHz (1.35v) / 1.20 GHz (0.85V) +.

Then maybe you can use the fastest processor 1.70 GHz. I don't think you'll see the difference.
Best thing you can do is upgrade RAM to max and optimize Windows XP Home pre-installed, and you will be happy with this good old classic.

  • CPU frequency and bus on Satellite M30 is too low

    Hello

The processor and my Satellite M30 bus seems to be significantly under speed. According to Windows XP Pro and Solaris Nevada, the processor is clocked at 600 MHz. The frequency of the BIOS, scaling parameter is set to "Still high", and I tried to disable ACPI in the operating system (ensuring no interference on the software side), without result. Power in the Toshiba Power Saver settings are all maxed out, so no scaling should be there either. Intel Processor Identification Utility reports the following:

    Reported expected
    Speed: 1.60 GHz GHz 0.44
System bus: 400 MHz 294 MHz

Note that the tool uses algorithms to determine the speed, rather than trusting the value returned by the operating system, that one of her aims purposes is testing for fraudulenty CPU overclocked by OEMs. The speed as it is for me is even more disappointing. I don't know how long it has been like that, but one thing to note is that the motherboard has been replaced last summer.

Someone has an idea what here? Thank you.

Edit: I also loaded the CPU with CPU-Burn to see if some heavy loads would get understandingly frequency. It has no effect.

    Hello

If you use the advanced search option, you will find a few similar topics with the explanation very clear why unit works with 600 MHz only.

In any case, after the replacement motherboard service must blink mainboard firmware. After doing this it will work at full speed. Because of this, I guess they forgot to do.

It is not a big problem. Please contact again and explain the situation.

    Hello

In my opinion, it's a very bad idea to open Notepad on your own. As you know that books are very sensitive units and if you have no experience you shouldn't do this. I guess that the guarantee is valid for two years and open Notepad, you can void your warranty.

I'm sorry, but I put t see any means cleaning without dismantling because there is no cooling grilles of ventilation and air in the lower corner. On some laptops from Toshiba, the of cold air is visible and the cleaning procedure is much easier.
Before doing something wrong contact partner in your country. It is also possible that there is a problem with the CPU fan and it can be exchanged.

    Good bye

  • Satellite M30: Options after replacing the motherboard's missing energy saver

    Hi all

I just got my laptop back from the service center, and not surprisingly, they've pushed a device that existed!

I had my laptop (M30 1.7 GHz special edition) for the centre of repair for a defect and they informed me that the motherboard had to be replaced. I got the laptop back a couple of days and I immediately noticed the laptop is overheating, fan has not turned too often that he was setting the profile to "Full Power".

After hours of investigation, I noticed that a few options that existed in the Toshiba Power Saver no longer exists. So, in my opinion, that my laptop is running as optimized battery even if it is set to full power.

As I said, the fan is not put on too often, leading to the laptop is overheating. Then the fan used to be almost constantly on full power before the replacement of the motherboard.

Here's how the energy saver used to look like 'before' to take the laptop to the repair center:
    http://www.FoxPop.com/Imre/2006/toshibatecram3review/toshibapowersaver1.gif

And here is how the energy saver looks now, after the replacement of the motherboard:
    http://www.iXBT.com/portopc/Toshiba-Satellite/power.PNG
with maximum processing speed of the CPU to 3 instead of 4.

Note how I'm now lack the "CPU control method" option, and I cannot adjust the speed of treatment to more than level 3!

Cooling method does not appear the maximum performance for me either, because of the symptoms I mentioned above.

Any idea on why that might happen? Please note that I used the recovery CD system and everything back to factory settings, still no luck. I'm sick and tired of going back to their ugly repair center. If someone can point out the problem, I'll be very grateful.

P.S. I use version 7 of the energy saver, verion BIOS 1.4 (original)

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

I wonder why you did not contact the service guy again.
After the repair everything it works fine and if the laptop is not working properly, you should immediately report it! I think it s a claim.

However, to my knowledge after the replacement of the motherboard that the micro code to the Board of Directors must be updated with the CPU could perform specific performance.
What CPU speed appears in the windows system?

I m not 100% sure if the microcode update missing is responsible for your problem, but I recommend asking to view ASP.

  • Standby power problems M30-344 (CPU uses only 600 MHz)

    Hello!
In my m30 344 motherboard and display are changed.
Now I can't use the full 1.5 ghz cpu!
In the power saver profile I can choose only the cpu rate of 1-3! I've now uninstalled this tool and reinstalled the version by the net. But I can use only 600 mhz!
    What can I do?

    [Edited by: admin 7 May 05 08:18]

    Hello

As far as I know if the motherboard is changed the speed of the CPU will be around 600 MHz and in this case the service partner needs to update the CPU microcode. After that, the speed of the processor will be as before.

I hope that you have already solved your problem with the speed of the processor.

    Swarvek

Satellite M30 laptop is very nice. I worked for about 6 months on this laptop. For me the laptop is powerful enough and upgrade the CPU is really not necessary. What you need to do is upgrade of RAM at the level maximum and of course good configuration of the OS.

Can you please tell me what operations run so slow and you want to upgrade CPU on this laptop?

  • How can I check sound version and watch on Satellite M30 power?

I have a Toshiba Satellite M30 series and have lost my audio. I don't know if I checked something l ' turn off or what. Can someone give me some ideas on how to check it? The other is stupid - how do I know what saving use?

Right now my setting is on Power Saver 2 and I'm having problems, that I found an answer to this, of overheating, but it was suggested to check the energy saving, how do you know that one to use?

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Hello

It's very simple. You should visit the Toshiba driver page and you will find the correct drivers and utilities also energy saver.
After the installation of the power saver you use defined parameters. The cooling method, you can define if you want to cool the most powerful CPU for maximum performance.

    Now on your noise problem:
Well, first go to Device Manager and check the status of the sound card.
If there is everything is fine and there is no exclamation point yellow if all the drivers are installed and working properly.
In this case I recommend to enter the control panel and select the Audio & Sound devices. There you can check if the 'secret' was not enabled and if other controllers are defined at the higher value.
