Satellite M40-282 - update CPU & HDD

Hello
I would like to what higher clock of the CPU of Pentecost are compatible for my satellite...
And if I can change the HD Pentecost a new one (from 5400 to 7200 RPM)...

Bye, Gianluca

Upgrading the HARD drive isn't a problem. You can upgrade the HARD drive at top speed.
But upgrading the CPU is a problem.
Upgrade CPU on laptops is delicate and particularly is not possible for different reasons. Two main reasons why upgrading the CPU might not be possible are the problems of overheating and the compatibility of the BIOS.

You must know that a plu CPU produce more heat and this could lead to overheating and possibly part of the damage. In most cases the notebook doesn t stable performance.

And to be honest, you notice improvements after a huge performance upgrade the CPU. So it s really not worth.

    Hello

I own a satellite M40. I had some problem with it, and tried to update the bios to see if he could he solved.
I flashed the bios with the windows-based utility, but the shutted of the computer down without any warning.

Now the laptop comes on only 1 or 2 and then put off the coast.

I bought this Toshiba, 10 months ago. So, is an update of the bios failed outside the warranty?

  • Satellite M40 - the update of the BIOS

I have Satellite M40-184 and I want to Flash the BIOS with a bootable CD, but can't do it.
I downloaded the bios file - 20070709161345.zip and extract the file, but it gives me error to run the file.
I extracted the exe with rar and I saw an image file, I burned it but it is not bootable.

I have not now what to do WHOW can I FLASH THE BIOS NOT BY WINDOWS?
I read the flashing method, but it has nothing to do with the file that is downloading.

    Hello

The driver from Toshiba site doesn't provide the traditional BIOS but only the BIOS that can be updated only running Windows OS!

This means that you will not be able to boot from the floppy drive using the unzipped BIOS file.
It s .exe file and should be conducted under OS.

I think it should be clear now.

By the way; the update of the BIOS is risky and if you use bad BIOS or bad update procedure can damage the ROM. module

  • Satellite M40-282: I don't have access rights to run Power Saver

I installed GST when I reinstalled my new OS manually
and I installed GST but he did not show up to reinstall after.

But I am logged on as administrator for sure

    Hello

It s very strange and unusual.
Have you chosen the right drivers and you have everything installed correctly?

I studied a little on the net and it seems that the M40-282 Sat has a serial number PSM42E and so take the drivers of the PSM42E series.
(On the driver page I saw three different M40 accordingly large number)

I discussed with other users, and especially incorrect installation was the problem. On the driver page, I found a statement of installation, and in my opinion, you should follow the guidelines in this document.
Everything should then work. I hope ;)

    Check it out. Good bye

  • Satellite M40 - cannot update display driver

    Hi experts, :)

I downloaded a new display driver ati from the archives of toshiba (for psm40e satellite). I know that my laptop has an ati chip, so I downloaded the driver for ati, installed, but after a reboot XP told me that the driver was written for an older version of himself (WIN XP) and does not work correctly...
Because I really need a driver updated for the thing, I was wondering if any of you know how and where I might be able to get a.

I've already tried ati directly, but the software told me to get the driver of toshiba... and current toshiba ati driver seems to be incompatible with XP SP3...
    I'm happy for suggestions!
    THX!

I think that the must decommission your Windows XP SP2, and then the driver should work.

Have you tried to install the driver manually? Go to Device Manager > right click on the graphics card > update driver
But before that I remove the old driver and software in Add and remove programs and then restart the computer.

Maybe it works, but try it.

To be honest I m a bit confused. Which account you average and where you try to download updates?

Well, have you tested the disk external DRIVE on another computer? If this is not the case, this!

  • Satellite M40 - question on the BIOS update

    Hello

I need to update my BIOS to be able to use a new stick of ram to 2 GB. Unfortunately I can't find an update of the specific BIOS on Toshiba website for the 265 M40, WXP with ATI graphics card.
    Which one should I install? M70, M100, 3.00, or 1.70, psm01, psm02...?

    Thank you

Satellite M40 can grow up to 2 GB of RAM, and to do that you need BIOS update memory vivid but compatible modules.
    Toshiba recommended 2 PC2700 X 1024 MB (PA3313U-2M1G).

What 2 GB module you want to use?

    That's all!

  • Question about updating BIOS for my Satellite M40

So, my laptop does not start, but works recovery procedure. Support suggested me to update my Bios.
OK, given that the last time, it was easy.

    I downloaded the newsest version vor my Satellite M40 (PSM40) (1, 70 - WIN<= i="" have="" an="" ati="" grafics="" card)="" and="" extracted="" the="" bios-20070709161345.zip="">
    But there was a surprise:
Instead of getting the old data structure, as written in the FAQ update Bios
1 extract the zip file containing the BIOS upgrade to a temporary folder.
    2. in the folder temporary three subfolders will be generated. "docs", 'Update - 3.5' disc', 'Update - CD - R or CD - RW"

I get a file only: BIOS of Windows Knockhill10GV170.exe
Extraction of it I get 8 files:
    -fdbase.img
    -InsydeFlash.exe
    -iscflash.dll
    -iscflash.vxd
    -KPM170. ROM
    -Platform.ini
    -The c:\windows\system32\unicows.dll

Now my question: How can I create this bootable CD-ROM to update my Bios?

Just to know: download all the other things are done on my desktop from my laptop is not starting ;)
I also tried to run the exe in the hope that it will create a floppy disk or a CD-ROM, but it is written "basic cfg address not found."

    Hello

Update the BIOS there are two ways to do this:
-Traditional mode (TRAD) and in this case, you need floppy
-Windows (WIN) and this update can be done under operating system running.

Update BIOS WIN will work if you run Windows on your laptop satellite. If I understand your assignment well you are trying to do traditional BIOS updated, but using the BIOS to WIN update. On the Toshiba download page, there are two listed BIOS updates and two of them as versions of WIN. This means that you can update the BIOS under operating system only.

Back to your problem: in the history one thing confuses me when you write: my laptop does not start, but works recovery procedure. Sorry, but if the recovery procedure is working and you will have clean installed OS.

Be a little more concrete in our laptop does not start. What happen exactly when you press the power button / stop?

  • Satellite M40-285 - CPU overheating after the accident with water

    Hello everyone,

I have a Toshiba Satellite M40-285, and 2 days ago, my girlfriend dumped a cup of tea on the keyboard... The computer turns off after a few seconds. Immediately, I put the laptop upside down and disassembled parts. There was some liquid inside (especially inside the speakers under the keyboard and where is the DVD unit). Other parts (CPU, memory, wireless card, hard drive area) were completely dry. I have it with napkings and dry with a hair dryer (later I read that I shoud never use a hair dryer...).

The turs laptop on one seems to work fine (only the first screen where it says toshiba remains more than normal long (15 seconds or more) before entering windows). But the problem I have is that the CPU gets overheated and the laptop shuts down after 5-15 minits of use. I'm getting attention via the RightMark utility I said "* Core overheating * ' and the temperature always between 45 - 55 c

I replaced the thermalgrease but the problem remains. The CPU fan works (I think that the two speeds). The heatsink is very hot after the computer turns off (it burns my fingers if I touch)

What could be the problem? * Is the processor damaged? Can be a problem in the motherboard? *
I don't know what to don't know because is not woth the money to send it to the technical service, but I can't buy a new laptop now...

    Hey,.

I m wondering that the laptop is still ongoing and no more parts are damaged. In addition he s very cool that you could fix it yourself and dry. Many people don t know how ;)

In any case, if the CPU is overheating it seems that something on the assembly or the cooling fan is damaged and must be replaced. Possibly peut t fan run with the highest speed more, who knows.

Of course, it is difficult to say what is the cause of the problem, but in your case I would try ordering a new fan and the heatsink too. The two parties shouldn't t be expensive and it seems that you can replace yourself.
So just contact a service provider allowed in your country to order these parts. They can do this.

Good luck and feedback would be great, I am interested on this! :)

  • Satellite M40 - 307 (PSM44E) BIOS update

    Hello
    I'm actually having a satellite M40-307 with a BIOS version 1.2.
Many of them came with BIOS v.1.3.
If someone is having a 1.3 or a higher version of BIOS, I want to send him a Toshiba util to send me its firmware.

    Concerning

    Hi Etienne

Don t think that a series of Satellite M40 PSM44E were shipped with the BIOS 1.3 or higher.
Series only the BIOS 1.2 is available for the PSM44E. It s on the page of the Toshiba driver.

Of course, you will also find an other BIOS updates; v1.7 and v2.0
But these versions are released for other Satellite M40 series and are not compatible with the Satellite M40 * PSM44E.*

    Welcome them

  • New DVD on Satellite M40-193 burner uses 100% of CPU

    Hello everyone,

recently, I replaced my DVD burner with a new. My laptop is a Satellite M40-193 (PSM40E-06M026IT) and the original drive is a carpet * a UJ - 831B. I replaced it with a Sony-Nec Optiarc AD - 7633A because I like the slit in the feature and the Labelflash feature.

Unfortunately, it's a problem. Whenever I use it, it will use 100% of CPU. I can't understand the problem. Is there anyone who can help me? It is a software or hardware problem?

    Thank you.

Before we start the discussion please can you me if this optical disk drive is compatible with your laptop model? Did you even check this? Please be honest.

  • Satellite M40 - update the BIOS

    Hello

I need an update of the BIOS not corrupted for a Satellite M40 PSM40 ATI chipset.

Windows XP based wife M40 was a behavior more oddly for some time. Just weird crashes, does not software, etc. Seems to pass all the diagnostics, all OS/applications software is patched the current versions and analysis we all antivirus programs up-to-date and clean.

So, I thought I'd try updating the BIOS and other related stuff. It was about two months ago... When I discovered I couldn't download this shit, or anything else, on the Toshiba site. Despite calls telephone etc. told me ' just keep trying... and try... and so, you get the picture!

Then last weekend I tried downloading one of my Windows 2000/IE6 based PC and was surprised to find that they worked. I had previously used my Vista Home Premium 32/IE7 based PC, which I think was the source of my misery for so long to download...

Anyway... tried unpacking the BIOS tonight only to be told that he is corrupt or not a zip file. Tried to download again, same results. Have you tried unpacking on three different PC - XP, Vista, and Windows 2000, all with the same result.

    Help please?

    See you soon
    Peter

I can't believe that I downloaded the BIOS for the M40 (1.70) and I was able to unpack this package, so I guess that something was wrong during the download process.

I think you know what could be my advice ;) try again

    Good luck

  • Card reader for Satellite M40 updates

    Hello

I have a Satellite M40 and my SD card reader will not read the new SDHC memory card type. Are there drivers for this?

    Cheers foxy packard

It s not a limitation of the software (driver), but a physical limitation. The hardware's player card doesn t support this kind of maps and a driver update will not help!

Maybe you can buy an external card reader that supports SDHC memory cards.
These external card readers are not expensive and you can connect to the laptop's USB ports

    Good bye

I don t think so. Yes SATA connector but not with ATA conector so best you can do is use new 120 GB HARD drive.
