Satellite M40 - must manually toggle switch to connect wireless

I have a Satellite M40 and the wireless works fine, but I have to manually switch the switch to toggle ON / OFF wireless on OFF then back on whenever I want to connect to internet wireless after the market or into hibernation.

Is it possible that she is automatically connect so I can't keep doing this? When I got this laptop it works automatically, but at one point stopped, don't know why. Everything else works fine.

Hi Michelleypie,

I put t know why you must always switch off, then on the wireless network card if you want to connect to the WLAN router because I m not a technician for laptop.

In your case, I would try to update the WLAN driver. You can download these updates on the Toshiba WLAN Portal:
http://APS2.toshiba-tro.de/WLAN/

Finally and above all what version of Windows are you using? Using the version preinstalled Windows from Toshiba or your own installation?

    Hi K - Ann,

Thank you for the above information.

I followed you instruction to back up the registry keys, but when I followed step number 7. Navigate to the location and look for the name of the file with the .reg extension and click Open, the message of answers that I received from the registry editor has been as follows: -.

Impossible to import C:\Documents and Settings\Compaq_Owner\My Documents\My Backup\Backup260910.reg of register: not all data was successfully written to the registry.  Some keys are open by the system or my other processes.

So I closed my computer and restarted. I then followed your instructions again (this time save the backup of the registry to a member in the same library, called "Backup260910bkup"

Yet once, when I followed the number of the step 7. Navigate to the location and look for the name of the file with the .reg extension and click Open, the message of answers that I received from the registry editor has been as follows: -.

Impossible to import C:\Documents and Settings\Compaq_Owner\My Documents\My Backup\Backup260910bkup.reg of register: not all data was successfully written to the registry.  Some keys are open by the system or my other processes.

Can you tell me what I need to do to work around this problem of backup of the registry?

I look forward to receiving your response.

    Thank you

    Neil Clark.

  • Satellite M40-225 suddenly switching OFF

Has anyone ever experienced their series M40 suddenly turn off without warning, with the power supply on and for no apparent reason? More generally, it occurs when writing in Word for an extended period (e.g. 2 hours). I ran several software spyware and viruses to see if there was something like that causing the problem, but everything is clear.

What it might be and there at - it an easy way to fix it?

    Hello

Maybe overheating! Satellite M40 is two years old now, and I can imagine that there is more dust inside. I recommend to clean it up and you will see that the unit won't stop and will also work a lot more silent as before.

    Hello

The M40 is a not sure oldie about the available settings in the BIOS and in the graphics options, but I think you should check the settings of the graphics card ATI Catalyst.
I remember that ATI catalyst supports certain options such as resizing the Image. Here you can select the image scale Panel option full size
In addition, you must set the resolution on the internal screen at native resolution of 1280 x 800
I think that the external monitor supports the resolution, which is not the same thing as the screen internal.

  • Satellite M40 PSM40E - big problem

    Model: Satellite M40-237 (PSM40E)

To start from the beginning. Around a year ago, the laptop began to restart occasionally. Overheating is not the cause, sometimes randomly - even when I just turn on the laptop. I searched the net for the question and found that many laptops Toshiba have reboot problem. It seems that if the portable computer "thinks" it's overheating as sometimes it is not just a reboot, it stops, but leave the cooler work.

Since there is no solution to the problem I just use the phone normally, ignoring the ocassional restarts. Sometimes, he would spend months before it restarts, sometimes it would happen a few times a day. Recently, it has started to happen a lot, so I decided to clean the laptop again to make it East of cooling perfectly. Coolers are clean and I applied a new thermal paste on the processor, chipset and graphics card. When I turned it on it has restarted several times and then it worked fine for a few days.

Today it restarted again, to be precise, he stops and left cooler work (although it was obviously not overheating). I turned it off by removing the battery and it works again, something I've done many times before, when this happens - usually it stops just restart later. But this time it would be closed again, I turned and he left like that for awhile.

And here's the last problem, something that has never happened before. Now when I turn on the turn it restarts immediatelyover and more. It goes no further than the toshiba welcome screen I can see briefly.

I tried a few things to eliminate a potential cause of this problem:
-It works with or without battery
    -removed the optical drive
    -removed HARD drive
-removed/changed the order of the RAM chips

It just keeps restarting, so as much as I think the problem might be connected with:
-power - maybe my diet started to malfunction about a year ago when this problem started, and it's completely broke down somewhere now?
-battery - it is a lot (it's on about 40% of the original force), this could be the problem? But, the tour should work without the battery at all, so I don't see how
-motherboard - something could be broken on the motherboard, this case, it is virtually impossible to find and repair the fault
-temperature sensors - they are showing the correct time but since the round is underway down to 'cool', there is perhaps a problem that makes the tour think it is overheating. If this is the case, is it possible to disable the detectors somehow?

If you have experience with something similar or tips please answer. As it is, it seems that I can just recover the removable parts and throw everything in the garbage :-/

    HELO drool

Long story. What to say? Friend of mine has Satellite M40 for a year now and it still works fine without any serious problems. May be time to cleaning it but he must know what he wants to do with his laptop.

In any case when the is in your sentence followed by validation
    > so I decided to clean the laptop again so that it cools perfectly. Coolers are clean and I applied a new thermal paste on the processor, chipset and graphics card.
is there for me, end of story. Laptop has been opened, no one knows what you did exactly, did you all following some manuals.

Sorry but I do not see a solution for you. Or you can ask for professional help and pay for it or sell the laptop on eBay. Please do not throw it garbage. ;) earn money with it.

  • Satellite M40 - need Diagnostics CD

Can someone help me with a diagnosis for satellite M40 cd. I have the repair manual, but need the diagnostic CD so I can check if the cooling fan must be replace. The laptop turns off by itself every 30-45 minutes which I think is a heat problem, the laptop is too hot to the touch as well.

    Thank you for your help.

    Hey Buddy,

I put t know what CD diagnosis you mean but such a drive is not available. I've never seen the diagnostic tools on the official website of Toshiba. I think that certain diagnoses are available for Toshiba

If your laptop is overheating, you should try to clean the fan using a jet of compressed air. This could blow out the dust from the cooling fans.

  • Satellite M40 - 277 keeps restarting - button / stop?

I have the problem that the (per hour to enter acient) laptop Satellite M40 277 of mine keeps restarting unpredictibally. Initially I have if it was a problem of overheating, so I used SpeedFan and CPU-Burn a test, but the computer does not restart until the airflow to the bottom is fine (I consider that the entry of the fan on the bottom a design error, but it's something else). Now, if the air flow is a bit stuffy, the laptop stops at about 83 and then it will have difficulty to challenge. Ok.

However when the laptop is about 63C it restarts sometimes and I feel, it can be a power button is stuck. I have XP installation so that it will always ask before you actually stop, and when I pick up the phone on the side (the plastic box where the power button is integrated in waiting) I often question of the judgment. NP, just click away. But I also feel that the button can get stuck and then the system turns off after 5 seconds of 'holding company' the power button.

So I just tried to get a quick glance and we should normally be able to remove the keyboard, but this M40 is a challenge. Even after that the keyboard is free, I don't see the actual power button.

Is there anyway to loook under high elegant green rim the power button? How to open this thing up?

    Tom

    Hello

As far as I know this little switch cover is fixed by 6 latches and connected with small flat cable to the motherboard. It just seems but if you don't know how to remove it you can damage these small latches and later you won't be able to fix the new.

Anyway, if you think that this power button / troubled maybe just make the switch cover replacement may solve the problem.
What say about it? Try to get the spare part and ask if anyone can exchange it for you.
Of course, the best thing is to ask for professional help, but it will cool somewhat.

Another way, do a risk and try to replace one.
Let me know what you think of this.

  • Satellite M40 with frequent "ati2dvag.dll' errors

My Satellite M40 with ATI X600SE works fine until I decided to install games in there. If I play at resolutions of 1024 x 768 or more, the laptop frequently to stop, the display shows "a picture" of what I was watching before the crash. Sometimes, the audio comes on for a few seconds, then stops too. I only do a manual restart.

Sometimes I'm able to go back to windows as soon as the pc seems to stop, and I can see a message stating «the driver ati2dvag.dll has stopped working...» "or something similar.

I have reistalled the ATI drivers really many times: nothing; I've done several systems for: nothing.

Finally, I decided to install the Omega Drivers for ATI: the only thing that I get with this is that the PC crashes Anyway, but after 8-10 seconds it automatically begins to work without restarting the system.

In any case, this problem is really frustrating. In view of the foregoing, I really think it's a hardware problem.
I've seen many people having this problem with ATIgraphics-laptops in this forum (http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=9209&messageID=32072#32072) and outdoors (http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/topic/31775/?o=0).
Could this be a problem of overheating of the graphics card?

What can I do? Give it to help to fix it? Someone in internet forums finished, change the graphics card, others the card mother (!).

Finally, sorry for my bad English...

    Hello

I understand you very well. These problems are very frustrating and make crazy.
But you must use the graphics drivers from Toshiba. These drivers are designed specially for Toshiba laptops and they are a little differently.
Graphic drivers of Toshiba control the performance of graphics cards because of overheating problems. In this case, other drivers from manufacturer s can damage the graphics card because they are not designed for the use of the laptop.

Well, I recommend to check other Toshiba laptops with the same graphics card and try to use this driver.

  • Unable to connect wireless on Satellite L300D-13 s

The wireless doesn't seem to work, are the switch and the light and the device manager says theres nothing wrong with my hub driver seems to work very well with my laptop more old etc so I think as my hubs ok. Is it a commen problem?

Its a BT home Hub so this is useful and if I use the cable between the hub and the laptop it works very well and connects to the top with a problem, please help

    Hello

The laptop supports Realtek 802.11 wireless network card b/g, but it has not been equipped with BT module.
So if you want to connect wireless you must first activate the WLan on your laptop computer (WLan switch on IT and FN + F8).
Then it must be set up correctly using the right SSID, wireless encryption, Mac address, etc.
Also make sure that your router supports standard WLan even as the WLan card.
