Satellite M40 - 277 keeps restarting - button / stop?

I have the problem that the (per hour to enter acient) laptop Satellite M40 277 of mine keeps restarting unpredictibally. Initially I have if it was a problem of overheating, so I used SpeedFan and CPU-Burn a test, but the computer does not restart until the airflow to the bottom is fine (I consider that the entry of the fan on the bottom a design error, but it's something else). Now, if the air flow is a bit stuffy, the laptop stops at about 83 and then it will have difficulty to challenge. Ok.

However when the laptop is about 63C it restarts sometimes and I feel, it can be a power button is stuck. I have XP installation so that it will always ask before you actually stop, and when I pick up the phone on the side (the plastic box where the power button is integrated in waiting) I often question of the judgment. NP, just click away. But I also feel that the button can get stuck and then the system turns off after 5 seconds of 'holding company' the power button.

So I just tried to get a quick glance and we should normally be able to remove the keyboard, but this M40 is a challenge. Even after that the keyboard is free, I don't see the actual power button.

Is there anyway to loook under high elegant green rim the power button? How to open this thing up?

Tom

Hello

As far as I know this little switch cover is fixed by 6 latches and connected with small flat cable to the motherboard. It just seems but if you don't know how to remove it you can damage these small latches and later you won't be able to fix the new.

Anyway, if you think that this power button / troubled maybe just make the switch cover replacement may solve the problem.
What say about it? Try to get the spare part and ask if anyone can exchange it for you.
Of course, the best thing is to ask for professional help, but it will cool somewhat.

Another way, do a risk and try to replace one.
Let me know what you think of this.

Good bye

Start your laptop and enter the settings of the BIOS (F2). Set to its default value. Restart your computer, and press F8 to access the advanced boot menu.

Anyone know what could be causing this? Is there a setting that can be changed somehow?

    Thank you.

    Hello

Normally, on Windows 7, you can customize the close button in the start menu. As you can also do that on Vista.

In addition, it would be interesting to know if you are using the preinstalled operating system from Toshiba or have you installed Windows 7 yourself?

  • Satellite L655-1E3 keeps restarting in an infinite loop

    Hello

It seems that I have installed an update of the BIOS not adapted to my Satellite L655 1E3. Now my laptop is never reach the Windows startup and keeps restarting in all about 3 seconds after the Toshiba screen display.

What I tried to do is reinstall my Windows with the Windows CD: does not not when starting on the CD/DVD

I still have access to my data located in the hard drive when I took it out of the laptop and makes a transfer on the other hard drive.

Can you please help me and suggest me some ideas to do?

    > It seems that I have installed an update of the BIOS not adapted to my Satellite L655 1E3.

I m wondering how could I know if you would try to update the BIOS to the version that is not compatible, the BIOS update procedure would be interrupted and it is not possible to Flash the ROM module
That is why I think this might be the case.

However, you said that you see the Toshiba start screen.
Question: are you able to access the BIOS of the F2 keys?

In the case where this is possible, the value of the default BIOS and try to start the machine again.
Where this is not possible, remove the AC adapter and the battery.
Press and hold the power button / stop along 30 sec. Then reconnect both sides and try to turn on the unit.

Your comments and good luck would be appreciated

    Hello
I have a M40-277 with 512 MB of RAM. Is it possible to add to the existing memory module RAM 1024? Are the only modules PC4200 OK or also others?
    Thx for your feedback.
    Kris

    Hello

It should be possible to upgrade the memory for max 2048 MB.
There are 2 slots of memory and you can use two max 1024MB modules.
As you say the unit uses DDR2 400/533 memory strips and I guess you can only use this type of memory module.

    Hello

Reinstall the printer driver and your audio/sound driver. Note update drivers was also
one of the methods in the previous troubleshooting. Have you tried the clean boot method?
    Did you also run CheckDisk?

If necessary AFTER those try a repair Installation / upgrade on the spot that allows you to keep
programs and data backups however redundant are always a good idea.

You can use another DVD that aren't copy protected but you you need to own
Product key. It must be the same version 32 or 64 BIT Vista OEM. Also the system
machine to usually sell the cheap disk since you already own Windows. Don't forget to make a
good backup or 3 (security in redundancy).

  • Satellite P750-115 - multimedia touch buttons stopped responding

    Satellite P750-115 part number: PSAY3E-02E002EN

This is the laptop I bought recently a month ago. The touch buttons above the keyboard no response at all. I tried to reinstall the VAP in hopes that would solve this problem, however, the buttons are still unresponsive.

Can you help with this problem?

    Hey,.

What operating system is currently installed? You use the operating system preinstalled Toshiba or another?

The touch buttons are controlled by added value package. If you reinstall the package that they should work again especially the Toshiba recovery image is installed.

Have you checked the BIOS if there is an option for enlightened buttons? You should active defined and also to load the default settings.

  • Satellite M40-PSM40C keeps retsarting after fresh OS installation

Hi everyone, I hope someone can help me, I need your urgent help!

I bought a M40-PSM40C-JM800E to the Canada and use for 1.5 years. the warranty just expired my laptop back to me.
At the beginning it suddenly displays a blue screen with the error: 0x000000A5, 0 x 00000011, 0 x 00000006, and recently it freezes itself.

I tried to use the cd of restoration but when lights in windows, it just stucks there on the screen and nothing happens
I tried with windows xp pro, that it restarts itself several times prior to complete installation.
However, it restarts again after 1 to 10 minutes when windows is running.

Once I tried to load all toshiba drivers, then it freezes (feel like she is still in progress, but you can move anything). When I run mode Windows safe, there is absolutely NO problem.

I also tried to run on the Linux Live Cd, restarts it rarely.
I tried to update the BIOS, but it does not allow me because of the same version. I couldn't do it BACK as well. (no floppy, bootable CD doesn't pop up with some pages in German)

I contacted Toshiba authorized service center in canada and they said no problem with RAM or HD, the next step "is replace CPU that cost $450 + work (150).
I ask if it will not work, so they said so to change motherboard :)

I took it to the mechanic and they test the CPU, and so forth, without finding any problem.
Do you think maybe it's Bios setting or a conflict between a device. Because it restarts with a new installation or freezes with full-time work and driver very good facilities with safe mode.

Some people say to reset the Bios, don't you think that it will work. How can I do
    Thank you very much

and today after much trying to reinstall, there is a message: insufficient system recources exist to complete the API...

I recommend trying to boot into 'SAFE' mode, and then execution of virus and spyware scans to check all the unwanted entries.

  • Toshiba satellite 1900 lights. Start button / stop is probably lacking.

    Hello world

I have a terrible problem with my laptop. It lights up. I had to press the switch with all my power to make him run.

    The chronology of my problem:
Initially it if turned on when I pushed with great force. But now, it is not possible to provide energy in it. The power supply is working and the green light, which means power unit, shiny all the time is. I don't have a battery in use.

Only the laptop will not work.

So who can help me? How can I solve the problem by myself in order to avoid high costs?

    Thank you in advance.

    Hello

in my opinion, it is impossible to fix this problem yourself because you didn't have the expierence and you can't special order parts!

It may also be that not only the power button is damaged but also other parts!

Then please contact a Toshiba Service partner!

  • Satellite M40 does not start

I have several problems with my Satellite M40-149.
When to stop crashes on a blue screen.

Almost impossible to start. After a few shakes and if its my llucky day, it starts, but in most cases crashes to the Toshiba logo "in touch with tomorrow" with the four symbols for hd, cd, floppy and script. I did all the tests, I could find, there is no virus, the hd is ok (I tried several) and after successfully
start the screen looks ok to me.

I even tried Linux on another with almost the same results, very difficult to start.
Is there another test, I could do (except the Toshiba test)?

Any suggestions on where to find are welcome!
    dimlog

    Hi dimlog.

This seems a bit strange as a hardware problem. I can t imagine it has something to do with the software, for example. If the computer laptop doesn't boot correctly and freezes on the screen Toshiba (BIOS screen) something wrong with the hardware.

I m not a technician but maybe the motherboard is the reason for this. But to make sure that it is the cause of the laptop should be checked by a technician of the laptop.

If you can fix it yourself, also have a look on eBay for second-hand parts they are cheaper as new parts.

    Good luck!

    Hi Gianni,

I use Nero to burn DVDs, and one of the configurable options is the task of "priority". If I set it to 'high' then my phone behaves as you described, that is very slowly. Check if you have you encode/burn too high task priority.

    Kind regards
