Satellite M40 - SD card stuck in the SD card reader

Hello!

I have a Satellite M40 and today I had the bad idea to use the Toshiba SD card reader.

I inserted the card into the slot and he's going to profoundly inside. Try to get only back further by pushing.

Now the cards is aprox. 2cm inside the slot and there is no way to get it out.

This must be a joke. Please tell me where the secret button should get out of this card here. I let it go, really...

Thank you
Fritz

Hello

As much as I know Satellite M40 has no SD card but media slot and it supports various media cards. Of course, you can not use all the cards available on the market but only supported formats.

Zim wrote very good explanation of how it works. Of course, with compatible cards only. Issue described can't happen with a SD card. It is too big and may not come 2 cm inside the slot.

I'm afraid that you have used the mini SD card. Am I right about that?
This card cannot be used without an appropriate adapter.

Bad thing is there is no secret button. :(

    Hello

    * My Satellite P200-1EE is stuck on the progress bar Windows Vista since yesterday morning * and I'm unable to contact my office.

I tried several solutions using the F8 key at startup.

    1 / safe mode

2 / startup repair. "Windows cannot repair this computer automatically.

3 / the system restore. "No restore point.

4 / windows complete PC Restore. "No restore point.

5 / Windows memory diagnostic tool. It is said that there is no problem of memory.

So I am only left with the options of 'Restore the full Windows operating system' and the 'command prompt '.

But I'm not too sure of the latter option. That's where I need your advice.

    * If I go for complete Windows restore, the entire hard drive fade or just the partition where I have windows (for example, "C:")? * I have several years of family photos on another partition (D or E) that I would not lose enough.

Obviously, * I do not lose data or software on C:, but not personal stuff D or E.*
Could you advise me on the best option?

    Thank you

    > If I go for complete Windows restore, the entire hard drive fade or just the partition where I have windows (for example, "C:")? I have several years of family photos on another partition (D or E) that I would not lose enough.

Depends on the disc that you would use if you want to use the Toshiba recovery disc, then the whole HARD disk would be formatted, including all partitions on the HARD drive.
If you want to use the disk in Microsoft Windows Vista, you can choose which partition has been formatted and where the Vista must be installed.

    > Clearly, I do not lose data or software on C:, but not personal stuff on D or E.
    > Could you advise me on the best option?

If you n t want to lose the data stored on the D partition and if you don t have a disc of Microsoft Vista, install the OS of Visa then I would recommend, remove the laptop HARD drive. Then plug the 2.5 SATA HDD with a USB-SATA controller then this HARD drive to another computer.
Usually, you should be able to access the D partition and would be able to move all the data to another computer.

I wonder if anyone can help. I have a satellite a100-163, which according to the manual should read 2 GB sd cards. When I put one in the slot, he begins the wizzard found new hardware & said while these data are incorrect. 1 GB cards work fine.

    I have to update software?

According to the card SD 2 GB notebook specification must be supported. Do you use high quality products or perhaps some anonymous cheap SD card? Please check if the card is locked.

  • Satellite M40-285 - CPU overheating after the accident with water

    Hello everyone,

I have a Toshiba Satellite M40-285, and 2 days ago, my girlfriend dumped a cup of tea on the keyboard... The computer turns off after a few seconds. Immediately, I put the laptop upside down and disassembled parts. There was some liquid inside (especially inside the speakers under the keyboard and where is the DVD unit). Other parts (CPU, memory, wireless card, hard drive area) were completely dry. I have it with napkings and dry with a hair dryer (later I read that I shoud never use a hair dryer...).

The turs laptop on one seems to work fine (only the first screen where it says toshiba remains more than normal long (15 seconds or more) before entering windows). But the problem I have is that the CPU gets overheated and the laptop shuts down after 5-15 minits of use. I'm getting attention via the RightMark utility I said "* Core overheating * ' and the temperature always between 45 - 55 c

I replaced the thermalgrease but the problem remains. The CPU fan works (I think that the two speeds). The heatsink is very hot after the computer turns off (it burns my fingers if I touch)

What could be the problem? * Is the processor damaged? Can be a problem in the motherboard? *
I don't know what to don't know because is not woth the money to send it to the technical service, but I can't buy a new laptop now...

    Hey,.

I m wondering that the laptop is still ongoing and no more parts are damaged. In addition he s very cool that you could fix it yourself and dry. Many people don t know how ;)

In any case, if the CPU is overheating it seems that something on the assembly or the cooling fan is damaged and must be replaced. Possibly peut t fan run with the highest speed more, who knows.

Of course, it is difficult to say what is the cause of the problem, but in your case I would try ordering a new fan and the heatsink too. The two parties shouldn't t be expensive and it seems that you can replace yourself.
So just contact a service provider allowed in your country to order these parts. They can do this.

Good luck and feedback would be great, I am interested on this! :)

  • On Satellite M40-223 some games make the display freeze

    Hello
    I have a Satellite M40-223 with an Ati Radeon X 600 is.
Some games (such as shockwave, world of warcraft games or never)
Winter Nights 2) make freeze display and the crash of the laptop
(accidents do happen after the same amount). I downloaded the drivers
on the toshiba site (16/11/05, 6.14.10.6534 drivers) and nothing has
has changed. Then I downloaded the latest drivers from the ati site
    (http://ati.amd.com/online/mobilecatalyst/) and removed the older
(following the instructions of ati). The display freezes always but
Sometimes the VPU recover the previous session.
    What should I do?
I will try to uninstall these drivers and install the ones toshiba
Once again? When I installed the drivers from toshiba for the first
I did use uninstaller first, time could this affect the most recent configuration?

I will try to use the omega drivers?

    Best regards

    Laura

    Hello

It s not advised not to use the graphics driver from Toshiba. The other drivers don't support the overheating protection. The games are a high performance programs. If these applications are running on the laptop all devices must operate with maximum performance and produce a lot of heat. The high temperature could be responsible for this gel and close downs.

I read in the forum that you can install the other drivers (not Toshiba) at your own risk.
I think you should check the fans for dust and debris.
Sometimes the cooling modules may not cool properly because the dust and, therefore, these problems occur.
Additional do not forget that there is enough free space around the laptop to the airflow correctly

  • Satellite M40 does not load before the BIOS screen

When I turn on my Satellite M40 unfortunately it does not happened on 7/8ths blue bar going across the screen.

That left me completely baffled as what to do.

Apparently, it could be repaired by removing the cables on my CMOS battery?

If someone knows how I would go all this? or have any other ideas?

    Thank you xx

    Hi Dec,

Blue scroll bars indicate that the Wondiows operating system is loaded from the hard drive. If this process hangs while loading, then it is likely that the hard drive itself is defetive or else the files that are being loaded are corrupt and cannot be loaded.

Interfere with the CMOS chip will not fix this problem because the BIOS has already been loaded at this point.

If you have access to a bootable CD/DVD (such as Norton Disk Doctor) then I siggest you boot from it and running a scan of your hard drive. Alternatively you can try reinstalling your operating system of the Toshiba recovery CD but it won't replace your own data on your hard drive.

    Have a satellite M40 - 295 XP Home (Polish)

    Concerning

    Hello

Sorry, but in my opinion there nothing to do.
You cannot move all the keys on the keyboard.
    It s is not possible.

What you can do is to change the keyboard language in the settings of the OS, but I t I think the function of the ALT GR key will change.
Another possibility is to change the keyboard to another provision, but these make no sense because you will not be able to use the special Polish panels.

  • Satellite M40-185: DVD super multi drive does not read the CD

    I own a Toshiba Satellite M40-185. It is mounted with a carpet * a DVD-RAM UJ - 831S.
When I put the CD - R, which are supposed to work on this drive however it read as a CD - R [i.e. the icon changes from DVD - RAM drive in my computer to a CD - R]

However, when you double-click the drive it says D:\ accicble not. But it works fine with DVD.
Recently, I found that it stops between buring DVD as well. I got the replaced disk from Toshiba, but it was not to last long either.
I wonder if his software level problem.

I tried to update the firmware but it does not work because it's another drive for this what is mentioned on the website for drivers...

Maybe it s only a registry error?
I read different statements here in the forum and especially the deletion of in the upper and lower registry filters helps to address these issues.

For more information, see this page of Microsoft Knowledge:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/270008/en-us

Completely remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters from the following registry key values:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

  • The M70-267 Satellite internal memory card reader does not work

    Hello

Internal memory card reader no longer works on my M70-267.
Device Manager reports the error with the driver of the bus PCI 6 mass storage controller, device 4, function 3.
The first problem, the result of this is?

    Help, please
    thanx

    Hello

Yes, this mass storage controller could be the card reader. So, you can try to reinstall the drivers, which can be downloaded here:

    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp

or you can remove it from the Device Manager and restart your machine

or, if that didn't help then you should send your machine to a service partner chartered for an assessment of health/repair of equipment.

To find the closest, you can check out this site:

  • Satellite 5100 - SD card reader-> new drivers!

I had once downloaded a bunch of bugs to the Satellite 5100, but through bad circumstance, I lost the files.

The stay of doesn´t selection on the product selected and some time ago, you have all kinds of things without with product report and the OS. Today, you get almost nothing for old products.

I bought a micro-SD-card 2 GB with SD adapter and the Cana´t 5100 handle it. (I purposely stuck with 2Gigs and avoided a SDHC)

I know that there is an updated driver for the card reader!

  • Satellite A200-1AX: card reader SD and BT do not work after installing Win XP

    Hello

About a year and a half, I bought my laptop Toshiba Satellite A200-1AX and I'm very happy with it.
It had Vista on it. For this OS, my SD slot worked, but I don't know the bluetooth because I don't use it.

Some time passed and I removed Vista and now I have Windows XP with sp3.
All right, but the SD slot does not work. Bluetooth does not work as well and it is not listed in Device Manager.
I tried Toshiba Bluetooth stack, and when the installation reaches the driver part it does not move.

Here's a screenshot of my device manager:

Those with question marks is not supported by XP as I know, correct me if I'm wrong.

    Hello

Satellite A200-1AX belongs to the PSAE6E series.
It s equipped with BT module so after installing battery BT BT should work correctly, you need to activate using the FN + F8 keys.

    Regarding the housing of card reader SD;
You must install the Flash Media Driver for Texas Instruments. This is the driver for the Bridge Media Slot. This slot allows you to insert an SD card, Memory Stick (Pro) or xD picture cards.

By the way; the BIOS must be updated after the installation of Win XP. There is a version of BIOS (5, 60-WIN right now) that is specially designed for Win XP
