  Can you please tell us which version of Windows 7, you have exactly? I mean the 32-bit version or 64-bit and you downloaded the package of value added specially for Windows 7? From Toshiba Web site shows also different patterns of P300, what model number you have?

  Have you ever tried to assign different functions to the button? For example, there is a file mute.exe as far as I know in case Toshiba should be assigned to the button mute. Check it!

  Maybe reinstall the VAP might also be useful.

  Next to the VAP (value added package) you need to install the Flash Utility card support!
  Card Flash utility support controls the keys FN and not the VAP! But VAP is also needed.

  C10Q C40 is already a squeeze tight with only one disk of 32 GB mem. So I an install clean of W10 and everything is great, with lots of room to spare now - EXCEPT - some function keys do not work as the empty screen, while the windows outside, using a boot CD, none of them work.   However they work until I connect and then they don't work on any account I can accidentally extinguished they if so is it possible to reactivate them? FN and the keys 1-4 works but the Fn Esc all the way to F9 keys do not work any ideas?

  The function key does not work in windows (I mean here the keys Fn + F6/7 change the brightness during the windows loading screen).   PS. I have a Tosh A500-15N and I forgot to say that I tried to do a new installation to see if that would solve the problem, but the ability to recover from the hidden partition is not available on the list, you get to by pressing F8 as windows starts (although the partiotion still exists)

  Hey man, you made it so complicated but in fact all it is so easy and it s pitty, that you have not written of this before you start the upgrade procedure.

  I did update Win7 on friends Satellite A500 month last successfully. This means, he had the factory settings (Vista 32-bit) and we have installed Win7 upgrade using the Toshiba upgrade kit. Laptop works perfectly.

  Back to your question:
  HARD drive recovery option (F8 and repair my computer) is available with the factory only settings.
  If I understand you right, you did a fresh install of Win7. This option won't be available more, and the image recorded on the second partition is useless now and can no longer be cast.

  You can get it if you reinstall Toshiba recovery image. Have you created any such recovery disc recommended by Toshiba?

  I checked Toshiba support and download page and Win7 64 bit is supported on your laptop model and you can do clean install Win7 and install all missing things also. You will be the factory settings but works fine Win7.

  Have you installed version of Win7 or recovery image original Toshiba that you got with your Toshi?
  Did you install additional package from Toshiba?

  I have a laptop two months of j020dx m7 Touchsmart from HP Envy Windows 8.1 running old.  My problem is that the F1 through F12 function keys do not work.  Functions void such as the brightness of the screen, the volume of the speaker, WiFi, etc. work (without having to press the "fn" key).  But in programs that use the F1 - F12 function keys, that they do not work.  Pressing one keys activates the Sub-function all the time.  A possible solution to push the F10 or F2 key has produced this problem on this forum (don't remember who now) to enter the BIOS at startup settings.  Here, I should be able to enable or disable the feature keys.  But there is a catch 22 because pushing the F2 key at startup reduces the brightness of the screen which is what I call the Sub-function and not him F2 function.  I thought that the right way for the function keys work is to push F1 to F12 when it is asked in a program and when you want the Sub-function such as brightness, wifi on or off, dimming etc., press the "fn" key and the corresponding function key.  I noticed a Toshiba computer Windows 8 is the same thing.  What is a Windows problem or a hardware problem.  Anyway, what is the solution?
