Satellite Pro 4600: how upgrade to Windows XP?

Hello
Someone gave me an old Satellite Pro 4600 which works very well with Windows Millennium, but this person lost the Toshiba CD with drivers and utilities. I can't find anything about Toshiba hard disk.
Is it possible to upgrade to WIndows XP? I have the Windows XP Pro CD, but nothing for the drivers of Toshiba.

Of course you can improve it to Windows XP Home edition.

I checked the download page of Toshiba under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com and it has listed many drivers of Windows XP Home edition.

I have twice had problems trying to upgrade memory to my Satellite Pro 4600, so I decided to ask directly if Kingston KTC-SO133/256 MB is compatible with this machine?

It's the SODIMM I'm about to try next, but I have to pay for it first.

Problems were that the SODIMM modules is not compatible with the wonderful piece of memory or it won't work at all with Toshiba.

Is there an availave list what type of bars of memory are compatible?

Sorry, I can tell you that I use the Original from Toshiba 'PA3069U - 1 M 25' memory (its a KIT of MEMORY of 256 MB)

    works great!

  • Satellite Pro 4600 - no sound on Windows XP SP3

    Hello

The 2 drivers in the download section do not work. Everest shows me that there is no Audio Windows (service started) and Intel 82801BAM ICH2-M - AC 97 Audio Controller [B-2] PCI.
    No driver is now installed.

    Any ideas?

    Hi stanbulino,

Have you installed SP3 before installing the audio driver?

I n t have Satellite Pro 4600 so I can t say much about it, but you need to install the first chipset driver, then the audio driver.

Also, make sure that the Windows Audio Service is started.

  • Satellite Pro 4600 - how to extend RAM memory

I want to increase the RAM in my old Satellite Pro 4600.

-Someone could advise me which of the (actually existing) types of RAM cards are suitable?
-The laptop has a maximum memory limit, or I can go up to 1 GB (for example)?

    Thank you.

Of course, there are some limitations to upgrade!
You can upgrade the memory on this laptop to max 512 MB (2 x256MB)!

You can use PC133 144 pin SODIMM as mentioned modules [here: | http://www.orcalogic.co.uk/asp/prodtype.asp?prodtype=28447&ft=m&st=3]

Memory locations must be placed at the bottom of the unit.

    -Turn the computer
-remove the screws which fix the plug memory module cover
-slide you finger under the hood a lift it off.
-mount the fittings of modules in connectors of computers at a 45 degree angle, then press the modules carefully to ensure a good contact
-push the module down so it lies flat. Locks on each side will engage in the place to fix the module.

    All that... easy s ;)

  • Satellite Pro 4600: HDD upgrade question

    Hello.

I decided to upgrade my Satellite Pro 4600 a 20 GB hard drive to a 60 gig.
Only, I get a blank screen.
When I go back my 20 original concert, it works well.
Y at - it a special procedure for the Assembly of the larger disks?

The BIOS recognizes the HARD drive correctly?

Perhaps the size of the HARD drive is too big and so you have a few problems with the laptop.

The fact is that not all HARD drive sizes are supported and the BIOS recognizes all drives, if the size is too large. Therefore, you should try a smaller HARD drive

  • Satellite Pro 4600: How can I get my wireless to turn on?

    EIS,

Sorry to ask the most basic questions, but I just inherited a Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600, on the back side of the laptop, I have the following information:
    CEL 750 / 128 / 20 GB / 14T

On the left side of the Panel, there is a wireless - switch this switch, how can I get the built in wireless to work please?

    Thank you.

    Hi mate,

Firstly: are you sure that you have a wireless card installed? This is the first question and perhaps the most important of them. Not every Satellite 4600 has been bundled with a wireless card and a switch wireless on the left side says nothing.

I know it s hard without technical knowledge, but what you can do is download the drivers from the Toshiba Drivers and Downloads 'Archive' wireless, turn on the wireless switch and check if some materials are recognized. If Yes, then welcome to the wireless world. :)

Would like to hear some comments from your part Thx.

  • Satellite Pro 4600: How to reset or remove the BIOS password

I forgot the password to my Satellite Pro 4600 BIOS.

How can [1] I reset the password?

[2] can update BIOS floppy be helpful for bios reset?

[3] otherwise, you know another method?

    Kind regards
    Aloni.

    Hello

1.) it of not possible to remove the BIOS password yourself.
If you forgot the password of the BIOS, then contact Toshiba service partner in your country to remove the password.

2.) each laptop has a BIOS procedure. You should check the Toshiba FAQ - How can I update the BIOS-
Please check this Toshiba support page:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/generic_content.jsp?service=EU&ID=Direct_Support_e u

But if the BIOS password you can not pass the BIOS. The password of the BIOS must be removed for updating the BIOS.

  • PC133 is suitable for Satellite Pro 4600 memory upgrade?

    Hi all

I'm looking for an extra 256 MB memory module for my Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600. The specs say one module of memory PC100 is necessary, but I was wondering if the PC133 modules would work as well. If so, are there problems with the mixture of the modules (PC100 and PC133)?

    Thank you for your attention.

According to the information on the site of very useful memory module, it should be possible to use the PC133 144 pin SODIMM modules.

I found this info on this site:
    http://www.orcalogic.co.UK/ASP/ProdType.asp?ProdType=5778&ft=m&St=3

In addition I don't recommend mixing the different modules. To my knowledge the lower speed module will decrease the performance of the memory. The two modules will work with the operation of the lower module.

  • Satellite Pro L40 - after upgrade to Windows 7, the FN keys do not work

    Hello world

I have a Satellite Pro L40 PSL4BE and have just upgraded to Windows 7. Since the upgrade I can no longer use the function key and the top and down arrows to control the volume. Keys F6 F7 & still control the brightness so I don't know the function key still works.

Anyone know if it is a driver problem or nobody knows how to solve this problem?

    Thank you

    Drew.

    Hello

You need to install the package of value added for Satellite Pro L40. This package contains all the necessary drivers for the FN keys. Then please install or update VAP if you have already installed an earlier version.
Here you can download: http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > support & downloads > download drivers

Can you confirm that FN keys work with installed VAP?

  • Satellite Pro U500-1DK - upgrade to Windows 7?

Everyone has lowered the note a Satellite Pro U500-1DK for Windows 7 32-bit?

If so, were all the drivers available?

    Hi jazzydog,

I guess you want to do a downgrade to Windows 7 64 bit for Windows 7 32 bit. Right?
Well, the question is why you make such a downgrade because 32-bit is more obsolete because it supports only 3 GB of RAM.

Satellite Pro U500 belongs to the series of PSU9CE and are therefore no drivers on the official page of Toshiba. So in my opinion, you should always use 64-bit Windows.

  • Satellite Pro M70 - how to install Windows XP?

    Hello!

In my opinion it's is not a problem if you use your own Windows XP to install it on the laptop that you can do this of course.

Have you checked the Web from Toshiba site?
You will find a document setup instructions for Satellite Pro M70. This is a list of the recommended driver and the order of installation of the tools. Check it!

  • Satellite Pro P300 - 18Q - upgrade to Windows XP

My colleague is about to buy a new laptop Satellite Pro P300 - 18 Q and asks me to perform the downgrade it to XP.

Are there instructions with the machine on the way to do it. ?
I know that it comes with Vista and XP Professional as recovery on DVD media.

Any information would be much appreciated. Thank you

    Hello

If this laptop comes with Windows XP Home edition recovery media, I don't understand why ask you the next question. Your colleague can decide which operating system they want to use. If he wants to use the Windows XP using WXP home edition recovery media and install the Windows XP Home edition operating system.

Someday, if he wants to use Vista, it can install it using sent Vista recovery image.

I hope you understand what I mean.

  • Satellite Pro 4600 RAM upgrade

    Hello

can someone tell me if the max ram in the Satellite 4600 is 512 MB as stated in the manual, or was it just a limit due to the size of RAM available when the laptop was produced?

    any help would be appreciated

    Hello

To my knowledge, you can switch the phone to max 512 MB.
You can use 2 sticks of 256 MB set. It's possible!

    Memory PA3069U - 1 M 25 kit or just modules SODIMM 144 pin PC100 can be used

  • Satellite Pro 4600 RAM upgrade - single location seems to work

    Hello!

I am writing again to my RAM problem.
I know that my phone can cope with 500 MB of ram.

So I bought more to upgrade 256. But only a module of memory is recognized.
Both work well: when an another reversal of slot a slot two, there is always a recognized...

I must add this: when I have added first 256 MB for the original 128 MB module, everything worked ok, (I got about 300 MB of ram)
I really wonder: is the slot 2 dead? How can I know if you think that is another problem, you have advice...? I am a bit lost...

    See you soon!
    Sylvain

You are right. You can upgrade the RAM to 512MG max.
In housing, you could inert max 254MB modules of memory SODIMM 144 pin PC133.

Perhaps one slot is faulty and you should check this.
Simply use a single module and check the two slots one after the other.

If the module will be recognized in the two slots this means that the two slots are okay.
These cases, it is possible of s that the two modules may not work together make for the compatibility issue.
