Satellite Pro 4600, memory upgrade

I have twice had problems trying to upgrade memory to my Satellite Pro 4600, so I decided to ask directly if Kingston KTC-SO133/256 MB is compatible with this machine?

It's the SODIMM I'm about to try next, but I have to pay for it first.

Problems were that the SODIMM modules is not compatible with the wonderful piece of memory or it won't work at all with Toshiba.

Is there an availave list what type of bars of memory are compatible?

Sorry, I can tell you that I use the Original from Toshiba 'PA3069U - 1 M 25' memory (its a KIT of MEMORY of 256 MB)

works great!

  • PC133 is suitable for Satellite Pro 4600 memory upgrade?

    Hi all

I'm looking for an extra 256 MB memory module for my Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600. The specs say one module of memory PC100 is necessary, but I was wondering if the PC133 modules would work as well. If so, are there problems with the mixture of the modules (PC100 and PC133)?

    Thank you for your attention.

According to the information on the site of very useful memory module, it should be possible to use the PC133 144 pin SODIMM modules.

I found this info on this site:
    http://www.orcalogic.co.UK/ASP/ProdType.asp?ProdType=5778&ft=m&St=3

In addition I don't recommend mixing the different modules. To my knowledge the lower speed module will decrease the performance of the memory. The two modules will work with the operation of the lower module.

    Hello
Someone gave me an old Satellite Pro 4600 which works very well with Windows Millennium, but this person lost the Toshiba CD with drivers and utilities. I can't find anything about Toshiba hard disk.

  • Satellite Pro 4300 - memory upgrade problem

    Hello

I know that the issue has been already discussed several times, but it seems that none of the solutions or suggestions posted earlier apply to my situation.
I recently bought an old Toshiba Satellite Pro 4300. The laptop has a slot filled memory of 64 MB module of the system's total memory was 128 MB.
Because in my opinion, the system has worked to slow down, I decided to buy an additional memory module. I bought 128 MB - module TOSHIBA PA3005U k and placed in the slot B

I was very surprised when I found that, after the upgrade, Windows showed that the total memory is 192 MB.
When I put the 128 MB in the slot module is and the old module of 64 MB in the slot B - the surprise was even bigger, given that windows showed only 128 MB.

I first thought that the slot B is defective, but in this case, it would be impossible to get in the first place the 192 MB. Then I thought that the new module of memory was either defective or it was 64 MB instead of 128 MB, but this option is also likely, according to my observations. Furthermore, I checked with EVEREST software system and it recognizes the new module as 128 MB module, but does not see the old 64 MB module.

The situation is quite strange. Does anyone has an idea whay happens?

    Kind regards

    Sebastian

To my knowledge, the 4300 Satellite Pro can be upgraded to 320 MB max.
    http://www.orcalogic.co.UK/ASP/ProdType.asp?ProdType=5769&ft=m&St=3

64 MB module which was fitted with your laptop should not be removable.
So in this slot ONLY this 64 MB module could work properly.

I know it's strange but the computer world is sometimes strange ;) you know :D

The BIOS recognizes the HARD drive correctly?

Perhaps the size of the HARD drive is too big and so you have a few problems with the laptop.

The fact is that not all HARD drive sizes are supported and the BIOS recognizes all drives, if the size is too large. Therefore, you should try a smaller HARD drive

Before installing a new module memory 512 MB do not forget to remove already installed memory modules.

Does that mean that I can not install a 512 MB module and more the 256 MB is already a total of 768 MB?

    Thanks for any advice,

    Hi Luis,.

The specifications of your laptop indicates that it can accept up to 1 024 MB of RAM. If you have 2 RAM slots, so you can use any combination of modules of RAM as long as you do not exceed the maximum quotes. Of course if you have only 1 RAM slt then you must remove the original 256 MB module before insert you new 512 MB a.

    Hello

The memory module manufacturers are not very important. But of course the modules of memory "no name" performance not as good as other modules such as Toshiba or Kingston.
Module properties are very important. This unit uses PC2100 DDR - RAM modules.
    I found compatible modules:

    PC2100 128 MB (PA3126U - 1 M 12)
    PC2100 256 MB (PA3127U - 1 M 25)
    PC2100 512 MB (PA3164U - 1 M 51)

If you use the same modules and only the speed is different so the laptop will use support at reduced speed.
In your case a module supports and other at 266 MHz 333 MHz. The laptop will support at 266 MhZ.

I want to update my sp2100 with additional 512 MB RAM, but the online manual and online technical specifications contradict each other.

The online manual says (on page 1-3) for the celeron

Online status product specifications up to 1 GB (DDR)

  • Satellite Pro 4600 RAM upgrade

    Hello

    Hello

To my knowledge, you can switch the phone to max 512 MB.
You can use 2 sticks of 256 MB set. It's possible!

    Hello!

I am writing again to my RAM problem.
I know that my phone can cope with 500 MB of ram.

So I bought more to upgrade 256. But only a module of memory is recognized.
Both work well: when an another reversal of slot a slot two, there is always a recognized...

I must add this: when I have added first 256 MB for the original 128 MB module, everything worked ok, (I got about 300 MB of ram)
I really wonder: is the slot 2 dead? How can I know if you think that is another problem, you have advice...? I am a bit lost...

    See you soon!
    Sylvain

You are right. You can upgrade the RAM to 512MG max.
In housing, you could inert max 254MB modules of memory SODIMM 144 pin PC133.

Perhaps one slot is faulty and you should check this.
Simply use a single module and check the two slots one after the other.

If the module will be recognized in the two slots this means that the two slots are okay.
These cases, it is possible of s that the two modules may not work together make for the compatibility issue.

  • Satellite Pro 4600 memory problem

What is the problem with this model? I bought second-hand laptop computer with 2 x 256 MB of RAM. After a few days memory module stops working (not recognized by the system), the next second module memory stops working. Problem is no slot, the two modules are defected some how. I bought memory as new ATC-SO815 AEC memory ten (www.memoryx.net), after one of the modules of memory stops working. BIOS is the latest Toshiba, version 2.60. Looks that mainboard burned some how the modules of memory, it's not good for me, I've already spent too much money for this laptop.
What's wrong??? Is there a solution for this situation?
I can't buy laptops and parts constantly, I don't have a lot of money.

    Hello

How do you know that the problem is not associated with mainboard? I mean, you're a technician to know?

As your machine is really old and you got no warranty on it, try the following:

Install both modules of memory and make sure that the machine starts correctly.
Download the latest knoppix (linux live CD), burn it to a CD, boot from this CD and choose at the start of the 'memtest '.

Let memtest run for a day. If memtest reports no errors with your memory (you can see if the modules are defective), then your motherboard is faulty.

So try this method and give feedback on your progress...

    Welcome them

    Hello

You can only use the memory 100 Mhz modules because the FSB is limited to 100 MHz.
If you use 133 Mhz modules, they will work only at 100 Mhz.

You can upgrade the satellite Pro 4600 until 512 MB (2x256MB)

I want to increase the RAM in my old Satellite Pro 4600.

Of course, there are some limitations to upgrade!
You can upgrade the memory on this laptop to max 512 MB (2 x256MB)!

You can use PC133 144 pin SODIMM as mentioned modules [here: | http://www.orcalogic.co.uk/asp/prodtype.asp?prodtype=28447&ft=m&st=3]

Memory locations must be placed at the bottom of the unit.

    -Turn the computer
-remove the screws which fix the plug memory module cover
-slide you finger under the hood a lift it off.
-mount the fittings of modules in connectors of computers at a 45 degree angle, then press the modules carefully to ensure a good contact
-push the module down so it lies flat. Locks on each side will engage in the place to fix the module.

for the second time in 18 months, I have strange problems with cards of memory (2 x 256 MB 144-Dimm PC133) of my satellite pro 4600: from one day to the other, the memory seems to reach "grilled" as the old light bulbs. Before that I used the satellite pro 4600 for several hours and the surface on the maps of memory had very hot.

    PA3004U - 1 M 06 64 MB MEMORY KIT
    PA3005U - 1 M 12 128 MB MEMORY KIT
