Satellite Pro A40 - two vertical line connecting TV

My problem with the Toshiba A40 Pro to connect to the TV.

Euro-VGA cable (SCART). When you connect a desktop with two line vertical image.

Pixels in PowerStrip does not work.

I would add that the graphics card is Intel 82852/82855 GM / GME.

Hello

Where the lines are appearing; internal laptop or TV on the screen?

Have you tried an update of the display driver?
How to test a new cables...?

  • Satellite Pro A210 - repeat vertical lines on the screen

I hope someone can help me.

I am a teacher and was bought by my school a Toshiba Satellite Pro A210 for me to do my school work and connect to a SMART board to teach with. Throughout its probably one of the best laptops I got through school. I got it two months.

There is only one problem with it. Its developed a rather weird problem. Occasionally, the screen suddenly freezes, and the display will be replaced by thin, alternating vertical black and white lines. The only way to get rid of them is to turn off the laptop and restart it (particularly annoying when it happened in the middle of a lesson when I've been respected by an OFSTEd Inspector!)

Technician computer school has no idea what is the cause. I was wondering if someone here might have some advice.

    Thanks in advance.

I ve the same laptop but I didn t receive similar lines on the screen.
What you could do is update the BIOS and the driver (if possible) display.

If the same problem happens again, you must connect an external monitor to the laptop.

Then check if the same lines appears on the external display. If so, then a problem of graphics card might be possible!

Then someone can point me in the right direction before as I have send myself crazy with this...

    Andy

    Hey,.

The drivers that you downloaded are WLAN Card and has nothing to do with the connection to the local network (Ethernet) normal

I think you should check the Web from Toshiba site to download the latest LAN driver. You can find the drivers for Satellite Pro A40 in * archives *.

    Hey,.

As far as I know a few Satellite Pro A40 were available with WLAN connectivity and other models not so theoretically WLAN works with Satellite Pro A40.

You have installed the card WLAN, you connect the two antenna WLAN (black and white) cables to the WLAN card?
Or you didn t these antenna cables?

  • Satellite Pro A40 can't connect to the WLan using the Win XP

    Hi all

Newbie on your site so thank you in advance for your answers ;-)

Picked up a Toshiba Satellite Pro A40, completely formatted and installed a legal XP Pro.

Trying to connect to the internet using a Netgear wg511 card works on my other laptop, it will not connect even though I installed the driver for it?

It comes up with 'limited or no connectivity problem occurred because the network has not assigned a network address of the computer.

    Any ideas please?

    Thanks Mike

    Hello

First of all, you must update the WLan driver.
I put t know what wireless network card has been installed, but you can find WLan card details in Device Manager-> network adapters.

In addition, I recommend to disable all the security settings on the router and then try to connect to the wireless network.
If you will be able to connect to the Wlan, you can enable security settings (Wlan encryption, mac address filtering, firewall, etc.) again.

Last but not least, you can try to use this command in a DOS (CMD)
    Ipconfig / renew

  • Satellite Pro A40 - cannot connect WIFI tstablish

    Hi guys

    I have a Satellite Pro Model: PSA45E - 0184H - EN

Problem is I can not establish a wireless connection, the laptop can not be set automatically detect wireless networks?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Hi robs1971,

Is your wireless network card equipped laptop? I ask this question because some Satellite Pro A40 models did not have WLAN features so I would be important to know if you have WLAN or not.

Also check device manager if the wireless network card is installed correctly. Make sure that this latest WLAN driver is installed, and check the Toshiba WLAN Portal:
    http://APS2.toshiba-tro.de/WLAN/

If WLAN network is within reach and SSID is not hidden the computer will automatically recognize. Then you need to enter the encryption key and that s all! :)

  • Satellite Pro A40 - how to turn on wireless?

    Hello

I recently formatted and installed Windows XP Professional on a Toshiba Satellite Pro A40.
But I can't understand how to activate Wifi on the computer.

When I press FN + F8, nothing happens. All the drivers are installed properly, no errors appear in the Device Manager in Windows. Do I have to install specific drivers, like I used to use the other FN keys (I needed to install common Modules)?

I also have a (Linksys Wireless - G WPC54G) PCMCIA card. When I put the card in the laptop, the power led flashes once, but also nothing happens. This card is not compatible with this laptop?

Please can you give me some advice?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hey,.

What is the card listed WLAN correctly in Device Manager? Or you see yellow exclamation points or unknown devices?

Maybe you should try to update the WLAN driver. On the Toshiba site, you can find the most recent version.

You should also tell us what happens if you search for your WLAN router. The WIFI connection is displayed in network connections?

  • Satellite Pro A40 (PSA45E) - How to Exchange old HDD?

The HARD drive in five years by Satellite Pro A40 daughter old died recently. What type of HARD drive replacement is supported by the BIOS or am I limited to the Toshiba MK4025 only?

Also, does anyone have an idea how to open the case without causing too much damage to the tabs in plastic molded?

    Hello

Theoretically, you can buy each HARD disk and it makes no difference which manufacturing you buy the HARD drive. But the uses of Satellite Pro A40 older hard drives with IDE interface as far as I know, and this means that you can not use hard s 128 GB drives or let due 120 GB limitation LBA 28 bits.
120 GB would be the biggest HARD drive you can use.

Normally, the HARD drive cover is only attached by two screws. Remove it, the cover and then to exchange the HARD drive.

    Hello

I've studied a bit and found information that WiFi is not available on Satellite Pro A40.

It s not a great answer but a very clear statement.

  • Satellite Pro A40 psa45e - error code: what is the problem of flashing

I just bought the laptop above Satellite Pro A40 (psa45e - 0184 h - en), which came with a generic power.
The great laptop worked until the other night.

The light on the power supply is on, output is 15 Volt, turns on the laptop at the front, an orange light comes on and blinks 5 then 2 then 1, I guess the 521 error code.

Unplug everything and the light goes out then two green lights turns on, then laptop has started twice and started upward (running xp) but then freezes.

I guess the power supply stopped working and the chip has noticed the problem.

Can anyone confirm the fault error is feeding or is there something else wrong.

Need to know before you buy the Toshiba power, I don't want to lose more money.

    Help, please...

How much is your generic AC adapter?

The amps must be the same or greater than what your laptop needs. You can view the Volts + Amp requirements based on the laptop (serial sticker).

So if the laptop needs 15v 8A... you need a 15v 8A or 9A 15v or AC adapter / higher CC.

If the amps are too weak, in the custom of mobile devices get enough power and could cause damage.

You should get yourself a good Toshiba adapter for peace of mind. Cheap generics can be more trouble than they are worth.

  • Disconnected radio on map Wifi mini-PCI in Satellite Pro A40.

I installed a card Atheros Wifi Mini-PCI (marked Toshiba, model AR5004G) in my Satellite Pro A40. Pilots of the section of downloads on the A40 Toshiba support site installed fine, and everything seemed to work. But the card could not find my wifi network at home (I rigged the antennas to test, before taking the trouble to install in laptop).

Atheros client reported that the radio has been turned off and gave the solution like him allowing the use of the customer. But the enable and disable options are grayed out outside in the client. I took a peek in the bios of the A40 (latest version 1.50) and there is no option to turn on the radio. The FN + F8 key on the keyboard (which has a small icon of wifi on him) has also not made any difference.

To check that it wasn't the card, I have two-way autour cards from my other laptop. The new PCI card has worked well in the Acer while the former, one of the Acer is also off in Satellite Pro.

Does anyone have an idea on how to get the Sat Pro to switch on the map?

    Hello

I checked the specifications Satellite Pro A40 and it seems that the WLan functionality is not available on this laptop.
Is - this laptop has a WLan switch on/off switch on the side of the laptop?

If this isn't the case, you cannot activate the antenna and so you cannot receive any signal!
It seems that you must use an external USB WiFi key.

  • Satellite Pro A40 HDD power level and general clean.

    Hello
I hope that someone can help you.
I have a friend who knows very little computers and received a Satellite Pro A40. She asked me to clean it and reinstall XP and all the relevant software for access to the internet and Microsoft Office.
During the process to do this, I noticed that the hard drive is clicking, which with a tower PC experience means his failing.
I would like to replace and modernize, but I cannot find what type of drive it is. Is it IDE or SATA interface. I suspect the IDE due to age.
Also can I buy a 2.5 IDE/SATA generic "hard drive, like Seagate or Maxtor? I would like to put a 80 GB, but not too sure if the laptop can handle, or if it has a Toshiba-specific connection.

And finally, I tried to get fans to give them a good clean as their obstructed upward, I can't apparently everything else but the fans. The only way I see now to do is to take the mobo off, something that I prefer not to do so.

I'll probably be eBay or similar sourcing due to the age of the laptop.

    Thank you very much

    Hello

You can upgrade HARD disk 80 GB HARD drive. Autour Googling, I found info on compatible hard disks of 80 GB. You can use the tracking models:

    TOSHIBA HDD2188B HARD DRIVE
    IBM G8BC0000Z810
    HITACHI G8BC00017810
    HITACHI G8BC00014810

Use these numbers and you will find info on hard drives.
AFAIK all older models of laptops have hard disks IDE and the same should be used on the Satellite Pro A40.

What about 'clean '? You are right.
If you want to do that well the laptop must be disassembled, but this must be done after disassembly procedure in maintenance manuals.

The problem is that maintenance manuals is not a public document. So please be careful what you do with it.

  • Two vertical lines on my LCD screen

    Please, help me...

Two vertical lines about 2 inches, width is one black and one white.

They appear on my lcd screen in the middle of the left since the start. Always in the same position.

Later, when the desktop appears, we the black remains black and a white becames an occasional color (or a combination of several mobile colors).

I tried to use an external monitor, and I didn't have the problem.

I tried with 'doctor test' PC hardware, but all the tests have been adopted.

I would understand if the problem is the video driver, the LCD, the joint between the GPU and the motherboard, or the lcd. If the GPU is the problem, can I replace it without changing the motherboard or not?

My PC is Thinkpad R60 9461-DXG and he is 2 years old.

My BIOS version is 7CETD2WW (2.22)

My OS is Windows XP pro SP3.

My GPU is ATI Radeon X 1400

My version of the video driver is 8.442.3.0 03/01/2008

You can try replacing the cable of the screen first, then if that doesn't work the LCD.

The manual on how to do these replacement is here.

  • Change HDD on Satellite Pro A40

    Hello!

I have a hard drive dead in my Satellite Pro A40, and I would like to replace it.
Please tell me which model suits me. The size of 40 to 80 GB hard drive.

    Thank you!

This old model was offered with 30 GB, 40 GB or 60 GB HDD. In my opinion you shouldn't have any problem, upgrade with 80 GB or even with max 100GB / 120 GB HDD.

For example check please model Toshiba MK1032GAX. It is the old model with IDE interface and must be perfect for your machine.

Incidentally: of course this old piece of equipment can scale up to 2 GB of RAM. How do you currently use? What operating system do you use?
Sorry for the question, but it really is fascinating that many people still use old machines WXP. :)

  • Satellite Pro A40: CD-RW/DVD drive cannot read DVD

    Hello

The reader combo CD-RW/DVD on my Satellite Pro A40 (14 months) stopped reading DVDs (DVD - R or the video, have not tried other types), although it can play DVDs some time. I've cleaned the disc by using a cleaning disc. I think the problem started when I upgraded the OS to WinXP SP1 to SP2, but not sure. I tried CD - R and CD - RW writing and no errors were reported, but the CD that result are unusable (can't be read in the drive, with the LED blinks a few times and then to infinity).

Someone has an idea how solve this ptoblem? Thank you

    Richard

    Hi Richard,

I suggest that you go the Device Manager on your laptop and then remove your devive DVD-ROM in the list. When you have done this and then select the option "Find new hardware" and allow Windows XP Reinstall the device and associate the appropriate driver.
