Satellite Pro L40 crashes often
I had the laptop for a few months now an i stupidly set up with it crashing 3-10 times per day. its quite annoying, because its not that old. I though it was a problem of ram so I went to 2 GB and the problem that happens on board. I also have the problem of disk hard successive beep which I think could be linked to the problem. Maybe it's a defective hard drive?
I hope someone can enlighten me.
p.s by upgrading the ram the guarantee is no longer usable if the HD is faulty?
My book frisottés and I made a memory test. But no error has been found.
But I replaced the memory modules and this fixed the problem.
So as you can see the test of memory are not always 100% useful.
By the way; Installation of the OS would be too good.

Satellite Pro L40 and it crashes and freezes
Hi guys
I have a Satellite Pro L40 and it crashed on me a few weeks ago.
It will turn upward, but everything freezes. They gave me a copy of Vista to friend, but this only loads until it said 74.5 MB necessary and only 74.4 on the partition so I guess it does not load the full program of vista.
I don't have the original backup drive so cannot use it.
Is my only need to get a new hard drive and if what kind do you recommend.Sorry if I have'nt it explains very well
Derek
In my opinion, it is always good to have original Toshiba DVD facilities. If you want to order a visit https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx, and how much you should pay for it.
As Akuma wrote before starting installation Vista delete existing partitions, create new and install Vista on it. I don't think that you need a new HARD drive.

New Satellite Pro L40 - startup delay
Hello
My brand new laptop Satellite Pro L40 seems to hang for all 30secs in the middle of starting. The office loads quite quickly, and the taskbar is displayed with a few icons in the Systray, but crashes (actually between loading the Intel Graphics Accelerator icon in the systray, < delay > then load the icon acoustic silencer). Sometimes starts no crashes and is very fast.
I have disabled the Windows Sidebar.
Anyone have any ideas or experienced this?
Your help is appreciated. ?:|
Dutch
Please don t be angry with me, but I really don t see any problems with your L40.
I worked on different computers and laptops and I must say that these start-up delays are there nothing unusual.Toshiba laptops support many additional features and applications and background processes must be loaded early in the boot process.
This could lead to short delays. But believe me, there s nothing wrong with the laptop.
Of course you can disable most of these processes, but please don t wonder if then everything is like FN keys, etc. will not work and can not be used.Best regards

Satellite Pro L40 Wireless does not and wont stop correctly
Hello
just got a Satellite Pro L40-15 1 week ago and it's been downhill. The Wireless does not work (and yes the switch is activated and drivers installed). Sometimes windows recognizes no device when I boot.
And when I stopped he said blocking down, but crashes just on this screen.
Now, I'm an advanced user, so I've tried many things. Can anyone help?
Thank you
As a first step, I would recommend to use the Toshiba Recovery CD and renew the operating system.
Then update the Vista of the State. I mean to install patches and fixes Vista all published.Check this thread:
http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums//thread.jspa?MessageID=107665Here you can see that a missing patches can have a bad influence on the wireless network card and the entire operating system!
Good luck

Satellite Pro L40 - 15A - Windows XP screen white when the cover is open
Hey,.
So when I closed the lid on my laptop for a while and then reopen the lid, the screen remains white (black). The only way I found to get back on the screen is to re-boot.
In power management, I put 'Status quo' for when I close the lid on my computer and power management is ' Always on '.I have the latest Bios and updates to the system.
Satellite Pro L40 - 15A
winXPAny help appreciated.
Hi ib1.
You use the version preinstalled Windows from Toshiba or is it your own installation?
What to update the display driver? Take a look at the Toshiba page for the new display driver:
http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com > support & downloads > download driversDon t forget to look in the * archives * on Toshiba page because this model is a little older, so all of the downloads are moved in archive.

Problem with the software Modem on Satellite Pro L40
I tried to set up a connection Dial-Up Networking on a Satellite Pro L40 running Vista and can't get the modem to talk to the modem from the ISP. The connection appears OK and then you can hear the modem dial, but when the ISP picks up there is a bit of yelling and then my modem abandons the connection and I get the standard vista connection failed box.
Things I've tried:
-latest drivers for the 2.1.77.0 modem (and the rest of the system) downloaded from Toshiba and installed OK
-all the updates of windows installed
-removal of the modem in the Manager of peripherals and re - install
-suppression of the agrsmdel.exe and then re-install
-try different cables to plug into the phone jack
-several different ISPS and phone numbers
-reduce the maximum speed of the connection
-connection to the same ISP with my Satellite L10; works very well never have time!
-using the windows to diagnose and repair the tool (set last resort!); says that the modem works fine and can not find a problem with the connectionIs it possible that the update of the BIOS on the laptop would make a difference (currently v 1.60)? I did some research on Google and found messages on various forums, which suggests that the connection between the motherboard and the modem chip is a little doubtful for all the Agere Soft Modem; If the case is it something I can fix myself or I should go for warranty repair?

Hello
I'm sure that there is no problem with your modem, but with the configuration or even s ISP modem. I recommend you to speak with the support of the ISP.

Satellite Pro L40 - football manager runs slowly
Hi guys,.
I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro L40
I ve bought a football game coach (lma manager 2007) for it and its really slow. What are my options to play better?Help, please!
Hello
To be honest there are not many options to make the computer faster
But I see that your laptop uses ONLY 512 MB of RAM.
In my opinion it is certainly not enough and certainly desirable upgrade to 1 GB or 2 GB.Therefore, I recommend upgrading the RAM.

Re: Satellite Pro L40 - killed the laptop BIOS update
Recently I thought it would be better to download the latest drivers and upgrades for my Satellite pro L40 to keep up-to-date and partners the laptop that works smoothly. I couldn't have worse summer. Before I updated the new driver updates I thought it would be a good idea first update the Bios. So I downloaded the update of the Bios on the Toshiba site, unzipped the files and followed the online instructions for updating the BIOS. I double clicked on the BIOS file to run the update, the laptop says it was end the session, I waited and the Toshiba logo screen came. In the instructions, it says that I have to press F2 now and confirm that the date and time are correct. I should then press F9 to load all the default values and then press F10 to save and exit. At this point, the laptop must away to the loading screen, but... I got a black screen. IV turned off the computer and turn it back on, but still, I get a blank screen. The lights are on but know one's home.
Could a mod/staff/Board Toshiba administrator please explain to me why I'm going to draw the consequences of my lack full on my face because I followed a form of direct teaching of personnel of Toshiba or... Please run me through the process of bring back my cell partners in life, before that I get my Crown snatched jewels. This isn't a laugh. An upgrade directly from the manufacturer is not intended to cause you problems!
Please get back to me as soon as POSSIBLE. My first son moments of life (videos, photos) are on this laptop. That cannot be replaced. Please tell me that the laptop can be fixed...
Hello Durks
I'm really sorry to hear you I have this problem.
To be honest, it is not easy to discuss about this because a lot of people on this forum with a similar or same problem reacts quite aggressive if they don t hear exactly the thing they want to hear.In any case, I just want to write my comment. Don t be worried about photos and other important data. You can remove the laptop HARD drive, put it in a small box of HDD SATA 2.5 and connect the HARD drive to the other PC / laptop as external device. You will have full access to all stored data. So you can do the backup.
Update the BIOS.
What to say at this point?
I have checked the Toshiba download page and saw that the BIOS update is available for Windows XP Home edition and Vista pre-installed notebooks so I hope you ve chosen the right one. Anyway, it is not easy to fix screwed up in the BIOS. You hate me now, but I think you should contact the nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help. Call them, explain the situation and ask what you can do about it.I hope you will fix this laptop soon.
Good luck.

Satellite Pro L40 / L45 - closed/open/sensor cover
Original title was:
Pro L40 - location of the sensor/switch cover closed/openThe moderator (?) changed to:
Satellite Pro L40: black screen but faint image in backgroundThis is the reason why I write again; What I'm looking for - at this point, at least - is NOT _specifically_ the LOCATION OF the SWITCH of LID on the L40, how to recover my screen in general.
Note: My laptop is a Pro L40 but I understand that his in many ways identical to the L45 (UK and USA models) model?
QUESTION: Did anyone know exactly where the LID OPEN/CLOSED/SENSOR?
I couldn't find, although I completely disassembled the unit.I would appreciate help.
Thanks and greetings
Nicolas> QUESTION: no one knows exactly where the LID OPEN/CLOSED/SENSOR?
I'm not quite sure of the position but the LCD m module is connected to the 30pin CON1202 (CON1202 can be found in a small Bay LVDS, which is placed at the bottom of the unit)
The 5 pins of the connector CON1202 gives the signal for the switch to COVER. -
Satellite Pro L40: black screen but faint image in background
Satellite Pro L40 - 17 H (PSL4BE-00T005EN)
Hello
I would appreciate your help with the following problem:
SYMPTOMS: The screen is black, but I see that there is a faint image in background.
I get a good picture in the external monitor.I suspect, _among others_, there may be a faulty * cover sensor / switch *, but I have been unable to locate him, although I have disassembled the unit.
If anyone knows, please let me have the exact * location * where I should look for the switch.
Thank you> I think, among other things, that there may be a faulty lid switch/sensor
No, I do not think that its sensor problem.
I guess that the FL inverter is faulty. The FL inverter controls the backlight of the LCD display module.
Therefore, this part should be checked and if necessary, it must be replaced.
