Satellite Pro M70: buttons for internet and cd/dvd

I have a portable Satellite Pro M70 with XP and - I believe - service pack 3. I bought it there is a little more than four years (Dec. 2005).

There is a series of six buttons to the right of the keyboard, just below the power button. The first button has been programmed to launch my internet browser to a key. The other buttons have been to launch the media player and control CD/DVD discs (play, pause, stop, forward, backward).

These buttons were a convenience, but for some time, they have not worked. I have no idea why. Can anyone help? Can they be fixed easily?

> These buttons were a convenience but for some time, they have not worked.
What does that mean? They are broken and do not work or you cannot start defined applications?
Have you tried to set them using Toshiba control.

You can start this application from Toshiba Assist > Optimize.

  • Satellite Pro M70 and (not) working with projector

    Hello

I have a Satellite Pro M70 (model PSM76E-00100KEN), and when I connect it to all a projector, it appears via the projector is the image of the office.

The laptop continues to work OK, but the projected image never changes the background image I have on the laptop.

On the power of the laptop Windows XP logo comes at a time, but then other changes of the display appear on the laptop.

It has ATI mobility Radeon X600SE graphics card. This card allows 2 screens and when I activate it it starts flashing number 1 on the cell phone and number 2 on the projector, but still shows only WinXP only on the laptop.

Any ideas on how to get the two to work together?

  • Satellite Pro M70 - how to install Windows XP?

If the answer is Yes, should what order I install the drivers

    Your help is appreciated

    Hello!

In my opinion it's is not a problem if you use your own Windows XP to install it on the laptop that you can do this of course.

Have you checked the Web from Toshiba site?
You will find a document setup instructions for Satellite Pro M70. This is a list of the recommended driver and the order of installation of the tools. Check it!

  • Satellite Pro M70: How to connect to the internet using a second computer

I have a Toshiba laptop Satellite Pro M70 with a RTL8139/810 x Family Fast Ethernet NIC use this, the laptop was connected to a desktop PC, whereby it is connected to the internet via a modem ADSL (USB) on the desktop. The laptop runs XP Pro; the desktop has XP Home.

My laptop has been a nasty virus. When removing it, he lost the ability to network. I tried "repair network", but he could not find an IP address. In the end, I had to manually set an IP address for the network to work again. You use IPCONFIG release and renew the IP addresses that failed - unable to connect to the DHCP server.

He could now see the Office network and Exchange files across be it, but it could no longer contact internet.

I decided to reinstall the OS on the laptop, but this does not solve the problem. I still have to manually set the IP on the laptop. I can connect two PCs, but does not see the internet from the laptop on the network.

If I connect the laptop directly to the internet via the modem, it works fine. I can even access the internet from the computer on the network when this is the laptop that has the internet connection.

The virus could have damaged the Ethernet controller, or she affected somehow?

    Is it possible to test?

    Have you advice?

    Hello

The virus was detected on the laptop you so maybe your PC has also been affected.
Did you check if the laptop and the PC using the same workgroup?

XP supports a help option. There, you might choose the Internet Connection Sharing Troubleshooter. "

  • Question about the temperature of the processor and the use of Vista on Satellite Pro M70

    Hello

I have Satellite Pro M70-113 and it has Intel mobile Pentium 1.86 GHz CPU.
The problem is that its normal temperature is 80 degrees Celsius... while I use the browser and other common programs...
and recently it automatically shut off twice and pressing the button works / stop won't turn on... when I unplugged, replugged the power cord so I could only turn it on...

And while playing games, it would of course go above 100 degrees...

So you know what is the max temp through which the CPU can go without stop or damage the CPU or surrounding a circuit?
I know that when I bought this laptop about 2 years back... it was not warm this...

And by the way this laptop came with WXP Pro preinstalled and doesn't show any vista capable logo (because at the time, there was no such promotion of Microsoft, as it was the year 2005, Nov).

Now, I use vista and upgraded to 1 GB of RAM and I have no problem using the Vista pc.

Secondly, I did not update my BIOS to version the most recent is available.

Although I'd love to have updated the BIOS but I worry about the bad flashing and says BIOS driver update page that the version of the BIOS doesn't support vista - whatever that means? If I go back to Windows XP Home edition after installing the BIOS for vista, the pc will not be usable for WXP or what?

Is there any link to the processor heats to the old version of the BIOS, I'm still using... will update BIOS facilitated the temperature?

    Please answer.

    Thank you.

    Hello

Wow, you have a lot of questions. :) If I was sort of a support guy to it all with such question much. ;)

No, I'm kidding; with regard to your questions:

First of all you must clean your CPU cooling with compressed air, because if the breakdown is clobbed with dust and then it s just logical that your processor is a little bit more 'hot' then 2 years before.

The max temp is available on the website of intel. I think that the section is called "intel spec finder" or something similar.
With Vista and bios: you need to update your bios, since then some improvements are making more compatible bios for vista.
But don t worry, XP won´t be unusable if you update your bios, the bios-update brings improvements for vista, but does not degrade anything about XP.

If the bios update will solve this temporary problem is not clearly, rather a cleaning as I told you will be better.

    Welcome them

  • Satellite Pro M70: Configfree and Wlan with WEP issue.

I have a Satellite pro M70. With Configfree (v5.90.07), I can connect to the wireless network (with SSID) of my router and go to the internet. But when I put a WEP key in the router, and then I can not connect anymore.
With Configfree, wireless Lan, I still can't see the network (with the name of the SSID, etc.) and I see that the network is secure. But I can't connect to the network more. This because the laptop adapter (Intel 2200BG) doesn t have the WEP key. My question is: How can I set the WEP key in Configfree? (A different key by different profiles).

(Try to solve the problem I have downloaded the new Intel and IntelPROSET wireless drivers.) This live program asked the WEP key and makes a link without problem. Now with Configfree, Wireless LAN, I also see a connection (secured with WEP). But the rest of the Configfree program does more (CFMain.exe problem). I read in another topic that this is caused by the Intel program. You must remove this to solve the problem of Configfree. So this n t the solution.)

My question is: How can I set the WEP key in Configfree? (A different key by different profiles).

    Hello

Firstly the Toshiba Configfree program is not software for the WLan configuration.
This program, you can use for the diagnostic procedure and it shows you the connection properties. But it of not possible to set the cipher with the Configfree.
It seems that the IntelProset utility has a bad influence on the Configfree. The problem is that Toshiba doesn't support any 3rd party applications.

Furthermore if this card doesn t WLan supports WEP encryption so you can not use it.
WEP encryption, you can set in the WLan card properties.
You also use the 3rd party WLan application like IntelProset or Atheros utility to configure the WiFi network but encryption depends on the WLan card not on the utility!

  • For Satellite Pro M70-220 laptop cooling pad

I want to buy a block of cooling for my laptop Satellite Pro M70-220 (PSM75E) and would appreciate advice and recommendations on the most appropriate cooling pad. Plateau broken down to use the desktop, rather that the tower would use.

    The dimensions of the base of the laptop are about 34.5 cm (W) x 24 cm (P) - (or 13.5 ins (W) x 9.5 ins (D)).

The laptop has 2 vents in fan - a vent is located on the left side (half back) of the laptop, and other the vent is located on the left side of the base in line with the side wind. Subject to correction, I feel that the cold air is sucked through the vent base and is blown through the vent on the left side. If that is correct, then I guess the cooling pad fan would blow air on the basis of the laptop, thus completing the airflow of the computer laptop cooling fan.

    Thank you

    Alan CB

    Hi Alan

Before starting to discuss cooling pad, I want to ask you why you need. I have Satellite M70-159 and have never even think to buy this extra part.

Have you ever watched on the net and found something that may be good enough for you?

  • Satellite Pro M70 overheats and turns off

Need to support some tech with this problem.

Satellite Pro M70 constant over heating problem. After use of 20-30 minutes of normal (web navigation etc.) the bottom of the laptop becomes really hot near the fan, unbearably hot to the touch.
If I play games or do whatever it is cpu-intensive, it will end by the smell of the burning and power off.

All this time the CPU fan never turns! Just lets him get more hotter and hotter. Strange thing, that's when you start first upward, the spins of CPU fan for about 5-6 seconds to make it work! Already tried to clean it, was not very dirty, the fan is not stuck, it runs if you blow...
Update I tried to the latest version of the BIOS overheating again...
Tried all the toshiba utils for cpu temp monitoring etc., they indicate the CPU get more hotter and hotter much more of 60 c +, but none of them (or other 3rd party utils) can detect the fan...!

Fix for that or is it just bad fan / design of the temp sensor?

    > Already tried cleaning...
Yes, but how did you do that?

In the past, I have separated three Satellite M70 notebooks and was surprised inside, how much dust has been placed behind the cooling rack. After notebook professional cleaning was much quieter and has been properly cooled.
Maybe the grease thermal CPU and graphic should be replaced also.
After a long period of use, it seems quite dehydrated.

  • 160 GB hard drive update for Satellite Pro M70 - 220

I want to upgrade my satellite Pro M70-220 portable HARD drive the current 60 GB HDD to a 160 GB HARD drive and you drive would be grateful if someone could provide information on the standard/type of HARD drive I should like being looking for and, if possible, specific manufacturer's recommendations and the model number of an appropriate 160 GB of disk HARD.

    Thank you

    AlanCB

    Hello

The laptop uses a simple 2.5 SATA HDD.
It's not really important what the speed of the HARD drive is supported, but I recommend to use the 5400 RPM or faster 7200 RPM HARD drive

Generally all HARD drive size should be compatible because the SATA controller has no limitations.

    Hello

I have a Toshiba satellite pro m70-113 laptop.
    Playback problems:
I'm unable to read cd - r. It's really strange that a few days earlier these CD - R have been reading very well on my drive.
and when I click on the cd drive in my computer, an error dialog box shows and says f: is not accessible, incorrect function. Here's a screenshot of the error... :

And when I try to read my DVD-R, a few times they read very well but sometimes it does not read and the drive LED is lit when it does not read the dvd - r.

    Please help me.
It is only 7 months since I bought this laptop and believe that there may be no other person on this planet who looks after the training better than me!
Really, I have not much used this drive and never scratched/gradient/local support, only the Supermedium media inserted.

    Thank you

    Hello

Well, based on your description it sounds like the drive cannot calibrate the lens and, therefore, it of not possible to read or write to these media.
Usual it of not possible to fix this and the replacement drive is necessary.

You can also consult the user manual. You will find a list with all supported and compatible media.

  • Satellite Pro M70 and chariging problems

    Hello everyone,

I wonder if anyone can help me with my problem, my Satellite Pro M70 sometimes does not load when I put the charger into the socket, if I out of the power supply and leave it for 2 days I have costs for a period of time up to 20 hours, and then did the same thing.

I tried to turn it on without the battery, to check whether the problem is with him, but he turns. So this led me to believe the problem isn t the battery.

    Can anyone help?

    > have tried to turn it on without the battery, to check if the problem is with him, but it won't turn
You mean the power of t n for laptop up connected to the sector, but without battery plugged in?

Hmmm, to me this looks like a bit of a problem with AC adapter or an electrical problem of power offers the Board of Directors. As you probably knew that, it is really difficult to provide suggestions without touching the laptop.

First of all, you can check if the machine uses latest BIOS. If this isn't the case, update the BIOS.
Check if the laptop would go also without battery and only connected to the network.

If this does not work, then the adapter should be verified.
If the AC adapter is ok, then, the motherboard must be verified

  • Updates the drivers & utilities for Satellite Pro M70 (PSM75)

How do you know if there are any updates available for the Toshiba drivers and utilities provided with my Satellite Pro M70 (PSM75), the Date of Production - January 27, 2006, and which are in the folder Toolscd (C:\ ToolsCD) on my laptop?

Is there an update Service that recommend updates available for download?

I checked the list of available downloads on the download page of the site of Toshiba UK ([http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp?service=UK]), for the satellite Pro M70 (PSM75) and compared the version numbers of downloads, against the same drivers & Utilities version numbers in the file Toolscd (C:\) ToolsCD) on my laptop (IE in the XML TVersion files), and they are exactly the same, even for 16 drivers and utilities with a "Date last modified" on January 17, 2006 or newer (with new - August 1, 2008)

The only real update which seems to be offered as a download, is the update of the BIOS v1.50 - WIN (in the BIOS downloads), with a 'last modified Date' of August 7, 2007, for which there is no equivalent in the Toolscd folder.

    Thank you

    AlanCB

You can also check this page for the latest updates, as appropriate:

    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com (Support & downloads)

I don't think that there is any tool, which continues to tell you that there are new updates available. For Windows, it is clear, that you can use the Windows Update feature. It has some function implemented tools can look for hardware drivers too.
But for the rest, just keep on visiting the above mentioned page from time to time.

In any case, if your computer works fine, you will not need any update.
