Satellite Pro - Slow start up and sound is messed up

I had my * Toshiba Satellite Pro * with * Windows XP * for a good few years now. She has always worked like a gem and only gave me no problems until a few weeks ago.

A few weeks ago I was downloading a program and with it the virus 'Antivir Solutions' very undesirable and unliked. I've done everything I can to get rid of this disaster (with the help of the support forums) and I think that I managed to get rid of it, but since my computer has not been the same.

I had trouble downloading a PDF document, a few days ago and it froze so I tried to restart that caused the computer to have a hissing fit, remove my user account which meant I had to configure everything again from scratch. And, now, the computer takes a good 45 minutes from the moment you press the button "ON" when it is ready to start working. Not to mention, it takes a good 10 minutes every time you click on an icon for the program to start actually...

I tried to defrag the system and you have tried to uninstall unused programs to speed up the computer, but it did not work.
I also ran several anti-virus (e.g. Norton, AVG, Microsoft Security Essentials) to make sure that I don't have wicked not spoil me, but they come clean.

May I also add the sound is messed up also. If I use the built-in speakers or external speakers, the sound is disjoint and broken. Like any video I have play.

I don't know what to do.
I can't really afford a new computer, but I need my computer to be reliable. I use my computer for 12 of the 24 hours a day...
* What can I do? *

Hi nicoletrist,

I put t know what laptop you have exactly, but I think that the slow start Windows is caused due to viruses you have or had.
A few years ago I also had a virus and it was causing a very slow start to the top, he did take up to 10 minutes until Windows has been loaded and the only solution to get rid of this used Toshiba recovery disc.

I would like to recommend you. Use the Toshiba Recovery disk to restore to factory settings and save your data, because everything on the HARD drive will be erased.
I'm sure after using the laptop recovery disk will work like a charm again! :)

I get no response from my Satellite Pro A120, no lights or sound. With power cord is plugged in.
Let run last night and found dead this morning.

I don't think it's a problem with the actual power cable, however the power supply port on the back is a bit loose and "wiggles" when it is plugged in, did it for a while with no problems.

    Any suggestions?

It is not easy to say, but I fear that there is problem with PCBS and power connector. Sorry but there is nothing that you can do it alone. If the warranty is still valid please contact the authorized Service partner as soon as possible.

  • During BIOS update by Satellite Pro A60 went down and did not start

    Hi all

I have a Satellite Pro A60 and I've updated the bios. To halfway the update, my laptop came down and started Hasna´t since. It only give a couple of beeps (trying to tell me the bios is damaged, I guess) and turns off again.

Tried to start with (~) key pressed (a tip I received from a friend), but without success.

I live in a country where there is no available Toshiba dealer and I rather not ship the laptop for repair.

Does anyone know how to fix this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

    This doesn't sound good.
If during the POST, the BIOS detects a problem, it will normally display an error message visual on the monitor explaining what the problem is. However, if a problem is detected before it initializes BIOS video card or a video card is not present or not detected then BIOS will play through the Speaker beeps to let you know there is a problem.
Depending on the type of BIOS you have the BIOS can play beeps in a specific pattern to indicate what the problem is, or emits the signal even a few times indicating the problem.

In your case, it is possible to s you used a bad BIOS or bad BIOS procedure. Both can damage the motherboard.
To avoid such damage and mistakes, Toshiba published FAQ document.
How to upgrade the BIOS on most of the units!

That you should read before making updates to the BIOS!
Unfortunately, I n t think that you can fix yourself. I think you should ask to help ASP.

  • Slow start up and close on Satellite A300 - 10 M

Received my new yesterday, laptop Toshiba Satellite A300 - 10 M with the 15 "screen and I got to the dealer today!

I tried, some of you may laugh, but after you restore to factory State 3 times, Windows Vista still has 6 minutes to stop and start altogether on this machine, it would normally be the load with the scrolly thing windows is going from left to right, then before he said welcome he would say "Please wait" then he might take a break for about 5 to 6 minutes! Then it says welcome and place comes your office as usual, no problem at all, once the machine was fully loaded.
I m confused as to why is was so slow because it has 4 GB of RAM

My laptop sisters from another manufacturing starts and stops in 90 seconds!
It has only 3 GB of RAM and exactly the same speed processor!

    Experts have no idea why?
I m gutted because Toshiba had amazing speakers and sound, other manufacture is still good, but not the case in the same league as the Toshiba, sound quality, if it has a 17 "screen, so swings and roundabouts, I guess?
I removed all the programs and free trials of each of the machines above, I have stuff wouldn t use, I even removed stuff to load at startup using msconfig.

I called Toshiba and the guy on the phone said that Vista on different machines may differ when loading and closing times, it wasn t any help at all!

If anyone else here has a Toshiba Satellite computer, you can see how long you must close and restart?

I would be grateful to know if it was my machine, wasn t prepared to risk to get an exact model and it still take 8 minutes again!
So far I have always very angry that I now have a machine that does not work properly and is a joke in his time of loading m.

    Hello!

I've created an interesting thread for you:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?MessageID=134947

I used these tips and my Vista runs pretty fast.

In addition to defragment your HARD drive: click on my computer-right click on the HARD drive-online properties-online tools online => defragment now.
Defragmentation is a process that reduces the level of fragmentation in file systems.

I also disable all services that I n t need (start-run-services.msc online online). Take care if you disable services, you should know what you're doing.
For example, I disable the following services:
    Security Center
    Time Windows
    Windows Firewall

  • Satellite Pro L510 - cannot install and start Intel Link 5100

    Hello

I have a Satellite Pro L510 (P / N:PSLFML - 002004). Recently, I upgraded my Intel WIFI Link 5100 (my original WLAN is Realtek RTL8191SE). I tried Windows 7 32-bit and 64-bit with intel driver, version 13.4 and 13.5, non of them worked so far. I always get this error 'this device cannot start' in Device Manager

Can someone help me with this problem please?

    Duy

    Hello

May I ask why you switched the WLAN card? Something was wrong with your old WLAN or why you did that?

The WLAN feature was working before the upgrade?

I can say with certainty why you get this message error, but to me it seems that the WLAN card is not activated, you permit wireless network adapter using the FN + F8 key combination?

  • Satellite A300-1MV slow slow start-up and ongoing execution place

I recently bought a Satellite A300-1 mV it runs vista,.
I have the trial running Mcafee and other preinstalled software that came on the phone. My problem is that the startup of the computer seems to take a ridiculous amount of time to start, once past the ORB of vista, that it says please wait which lasts about a minute until the password request is displayed.

I had a quick glance in the problemreports in the Panel and concluded that the program of toshiba tempro was hung up at startup so disabled but doesn't seem to have any effect, I also find that when for example you double-click a photo thumbnail to view it, it takes about 30 seconds to appear on the fullscreen allthough, the window appears on the start menu to the low allmost bar immediately.

I defragmented the hard drive, scandisk, memory checking, virus check etc... I compared it to a friends laptop dell which has less memory, but the same processor spec and vista and that seems to work 10 times faster... any ideas?, I wonder if it is a program of toshiba at the origin of the problem.

However, I have a problem with acrobat reader from opening on its own and telling me it can't read the file (do not know what file)

I uninstalled it and reinstalled but still have the same question...! Help!
    See you soon

    Hello

Very nice thread on slow start up you will find under http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=134947

To be honest I don't like McAfee and I installed other antivirus applications that needs far more resources. Please read this interesting thread and let me know what do you think about this.

  • Satellite Pro U400 starts and overheating problems

    Hello

6 weeks ago, I bought a Satellite Pro U400. Shortly after that I bought, I noticed that the computer overheating. After 1 hour of use, it becomes very hot in the touchpad area, as well in the base of the computer and on the touchpad itself. It is very annoying because I almost burn my fingers with the touch pad.

The problems began 10 days ago. I had been using the laptop for an hour when it suddenly turned off without notice. Power outage? I don't know Don t. I looked like a sytem of overheating protection. My previous laptop had the same problem. After a few minutes, I was able to turn it back on.

Then it happened again a few days ago, but it took me 5 minutes to turn on. Yesterday, it happened again, and after 45 minutes without response, I went to bed. In the morning, I was able to turn it on.

This also happens when wifi is disabled, it is not only a problem with the wifi card, overheating of the system.

Am I the only one having this problem? I will try to send it back to Toshiba for a replacement or a refund.

Is this normal in a really new machine?

    Thank you

First, the warming of the touchpad is normal for almost every laptop, due to construction. Under this, there are the HARD drive and it produces heat. With my last books, and it was not bad, too.
But really to get so hot?

Due to the protection against overheating, it is normal that you cannot turn on your laptop immediately.
But the wireless card is not the device in question, because it's a very small piece of hardware and produce little heat.

You said, you had this problem with your notebook previous too. Let me ask you, when you use your notebooks? What your table surface there or is there no matter what on that table cloth?

What I can tell you right now is, to check your locations of fantilation for all dust or maybe you have objects near it so that hot air can not cool.

  • Satellite Pro P100 (PSPA4A-005002) - no sound after installing Win7

I've updated my laptop Satellite Pro P100 from Windows XP to Windows 7. I ran the custom installation of Windows 7 while I did not any problem of Windows XP system and I used a separate hard drive. This way I can reinstall the hard drive with XP and go back and use XP if I am not satisfied with Windows 7. Among the problems I encounter is that I can't ge the noise at work.

The speaker in the lower right corner icon has a red x on it. In Device Manager, the high definition Audio Device a "this device cannot start. (Code 10) "in the State of the device. The driver installation of guard is the version "Microsoft 6.1.7600.16385 version dated from 13/07/2009" driver. I tried to install the driver (Vista) recommended in the page Web of Toshiba "Upgrade your Toshiba PC to Windows 7". This driver has not worked. Windows also displays the error message "Driver Installation rating: could not find the media for this driver device.»

I searched the web high and low and all the recommendation I found does not work.

If someone has encountered this problem and have you found a solution?

    Hello

Maybe you used the wrong audio driver. The 10 error always appears if an incorrect or incompatible driver was used.
I recommend the audio driver again.

As far as I know the laptop supports a Conexant audio chip.
There are some models of different laptops that support the same sound chip.

See the European driver of Toshiba page and choose for example the Satellite P300
This assumption of the model driver audio Conexant and I recommend that you install this driver!

    Welcome them

  • Satellite Pro A200 - 1 MI - no sound in Windows XP Home edition

I spent from Vista to XP and after that I have no sound, I have installed the audio drivers from the official site driver Toshiba and still nothing. Also tried this one: http://www.programs.pl/program, 739, 1.html.

Someone at - there a sollution to this problem?

I have exactly the same problem. Recently bought a satellite Pro A200 PSAE7 and decided to Downgrade from Vista to XP Pro and now have no sound and wireless. Downloaded the drivers from the Tosh Site but still does not. Have looked everywhere. Starting to do my head in now.

  • Satellite Pro U400-130 - Conexant and 'Stereo Mix' in question

    Hello

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro U400-130 (downgraded from Vista to XP) with the Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221 "audio card" installed.

Although this seems to support HD audio, I can't find any option to use or activate the "Stereo Mix" option in the Windows console. I tried a few settings to registry and some different drivers, but so far, the option remained absent.

I know this forum and other comments on the net that Conexant audio cards do not support the stereo mix, but I was wondering if someone could confirm that this is certainly the case for SmartAudio 221?

Similarly, anyone know of another method to record the sound 'as heard' on the computer? So Far, the options appear to be a) buy an external sound card, or b) connect the plug headphone mini-jack on the mic with a cable jack.

After using a p3500 old Portege of 8 quite happy with this function (actually pretty basic), it is very disappointing to find that this card cannot support it.

    See you soon,.
    Select this option.

    > I can't find any option to use or activate the "Stereo Mix" option in the Windows mixer
    > I know this forum and other reviews on the net that the Conexant sound cards may not support stereo > Mix, but I was wondering if anyone could confirm this is certainly the case for SmartAudio 221?

I can confirm this because I have a laptop (NOT from Toshiba one) that was equipped with the Conexant audio chip and the other laptop (Toshiba Satellite a series has) that supports the Realtek audio chip.

The machine with Realtek audio chip contains stereo mix and the other non-Toshiba unit that supports the audio chip Conexant does not support the stereo mix

As far as I know the update of the driver won't help you because it looks like a hardware limitation of chip Conexant!

However, thanks for the info about the Virtual Audio Cable tool.
I think I'll try it next time

    Hello

The European driver Toshiba page provides two audio Conexant drivers for this model of laptop.
    + Driver sound + 4.36.10.0
    + Driver sound + 4.83.1.0

I recommend the new version 4.83.1.0
Uninstall the old driver first in the Device Manager.

Restart the device and install the new downloaded drivers.

Hope this helps to get better sound quality :)

Oh I forgot to tell my computer toshiba laptop satellite pro u400
It came with windows vista preinstalled

    Hello

I think it is just a software problem (Boot Manager).
    Try to repair the operating system by using HARD disk recovery;
    Press F8 why portable power.
Then choose fix my computer, then choose disk HARD recovery.

If this is not possible, order the disk recovery from here:
    http://backupmedia.Toshiba.EU/landing.aspx

Then, you will be able to reinstall the OS using the recovery disk

  • Satellite Pro U200: BSOD error and sudden shutdown problem

I have been using Satellite Pro U 200 since July this year.
I had a strange problem. The problem began in mid-October where my laptop appears a blue windows error screen and restart. When the system will re-start the screen would flicker start and the operating system would not initialize correctly.

It would give all sorts of error messages. Even if I tried to install a new operating system at this time where he would give error with the disc saying some file is corrupted. If you leave the phone turned off, it would again work normally.
The disc would normally work on other portable computers desktop computers.

I sent it for repair and they changed the hard drive. But the problem has returned to a degree less after a week.
He sent again and this time they changed the motherboard.
But the problem is now back with the blue screen stop.

    It's a Toshiba U 200 1.66 GHz memory gigabyte hard drive.
I bought the Canada and use it in England, there is therefore a Canadian power cable.
I am using Windows XP Pro with Service Pack 2

    Any help will be appreciated!

Is it possible that some application you use is responsible for this? If there is an error on the corrupted file, I'm a bit skeptical about a malfunction of the equipment.

    You did some hardware upgrades?
Check Please also this interesting article on the BSOD http://articles.techrepublic.com.com/5100-10877-6053684.html

    Sysaudio.sys - address aa846f58 base at aa843000, datestamp 41107f1a

    Hello

Believe me; It's not easy to say exactly why the BSOD appears.
It usually happens because of a malfunction or severe software hardware fault.
Have you used the operating system of the image of Toshiba?
Message it says something about sysaudio.sys.
This file is a system audio WDM filter processes and it s a part of the Windows operating system. It controls the material such as the printer or the graphics card at a lower level.

Note: The virus uses these files as a camouflage. You should always use an anti virus application.

In addition, you suggested that the laptop stops after 5 min.
Well, this looks like an overheating problem. How did you use the laptop? You know that free space around the laptop is very important due to the circulation of air. Fans should also be free.

I you use Notepad in the right position and it happen, so I recommend asking for help Toshiba service partner. They should check the laptop.
