Satellite R840 - replace ODD

Dear Sirs,
How to replace the Satellite R840 ODD

Thank you
Best regards

Replacement WEIRD on this laptop model is very complicated. To have access to the ODD, you must delete the basic coverage and disassemble the laptop almost whole.
I don't know why you should be replaced, but if possible contact Toshiba service nearest and ask for help. It must be done on the professional track.

I think that you should not do this yourself, especially if you have no experience with such things. Small mistake and you can damage something.

ODD is defective or what?

In the lower corner of your laptop, you'll find sticker number and part of Toshiba.
On the Toshiba download page, choose this part number (short model) and you should be able to find all the drivers available.

    Hello

Have you installed the driver WLan?
The laptop seems to be equipped with the Atheros AR9285 WiFi card and in most cases the Fn + F8 key does not work because the Wlan driver is not installed or is not working properly.

Recommend first of all remove the network card wireless from Device Manager, then restart the laptop. After restarting again install the new driver Atheros Wlan downloaded for this wlan card.

Here you can find all the drivers Wlan published by Toshiba:

    Hello

If you can get it on eBay the same drive, it will work with your laptop. Alternative check the user manual. You will find a list of compatible spare disks and don t forget that not all drives are compatible with all laptops. But the drives listed in the user manual are compatible.

AFAIK for notebooks with IDE interface there is a limitation of LBA 28 bits. This means that you can use hard drives 120 GB.
But in the worst case, you can use a 40/60 GB model.

  • Satellite R840 - protection of HARD drive utility is not hired HARD drive in the ODD location

    Hello

I replaced my regular hard drive with an SSD. Even more I also changed my optical drive with the old hard drive using a special Wcaddie found on Ebay.
Everything works perfectly (windows on the ssd) and data on the hard drive.

I seem to have a problem with the Toshiba HDD protection software (used to park the drive hard if they fall on laptop id).
When I run the installation of this software, there is no hired the HDD in the odd location.

Is it possible to make this work?

    Thank you

    Ben

    Hello Ben.

This software is tested with the original configuration s notebook.
Are you sure that Toshiba supports these updates on this laptop model? I don t think so.

In General, you should be happy that the second HARD drive is recognized correctly.

  • I would replace ODD with Blu - ray on satellite C50 player

    Hello

I would like to replace my dvd player with a bluray player. What should I do, there are several but most of them is 12.7 mm deep, that fit the slot or do I need a model more thin?

Are there settings that I need to do to make sure it's working properly which is the master/slave settings

    Thanks in advance.

    > Are there adjustments I would need to do to make sure it's working properly which is the master/slave settings

It is not possible on optical disc drives that are released for laptops. For most parameters are set to C - SALT (cable select) and this means that the BIOS would pick-up the slave automatically option.
Of course, his question to the reader. You should use the one compatible.

As far as I know, the user manual contains information about the compatible optical discs and I recommend you to check this user's manual. Information must be mentioned on it somewhere in the first pages.

Each laptop manufacturer offers generally the list of compatible and parts accessories that can be used on some model laptop. As much I know this parts Toshiba doesn't offer to upgrade if with this you are on your own.
With other words, you'll be very happy if someone on this forum has the same laptop model, use the same room and I can confirm that it works perfectly.

In General, it is not expensive and I think that you can buy and test it.
Do you know how to remove the optical disk drive?

Anyway, if you need help, you are welcome.

One last thing: has your valid warranty for laptop?

  • Satellite A300-19O - replacement ODD

    Dear users,

    I'm new to this forum.

Here's my problem: I'm looking for the exact reference of the optical disc for my Toshiba drive
    A300-19O (model PSAJ4E).

The shape of it is unique, that's why I'm very worried about getting a player who wouldn't be good.
Where could I buy one that fits?
Could you please give me the references?

    Thank you very much!

    Didier

    Hello

I think that your user manual contains a list of compatible CD/DVD players.
    Check it out.

In addition, you can buy all the compatible parts since local Toshiba authorized service provider.

    Welcome them

  • Satellite L500D - replacing the DVD - RW drive

I have a model of Satellite L500D PSL T6A-015003. (portable)

Recently I placed a CD in the DVD RW drive and the CD did not play.

When I removed the CD, the disc of black Center that keep the CD etc up to were broken on the disk. The black disc was stuck in the CD I pulled out and a small piece and spring also fell out.

Can I get a replacement black Center disk or do I have to buy a replacement DVD RW drive. If I have to buy a replacement drive, can someone please tell me where I can buy one, I'm in Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia.

I have a few details to the reader, these are:

    HL data storage
    Super multi DVD re writer
    Model GT20N (7 7 ATAK)
    Serial number BOCRGTB831062

I appreciate any help on this

In my opinion, you should buy another ODD and of course identical. You have any important data on this piece of hardware so use Google and check if you can find an online store in your country where you can order.
In the worst cases contact the nearest Toshiba service provider and ask if they can order it for you.

  • Tecra R950-104 - can I replace ODD with SSD?

    Hello

Is it possible to replace my DVD drive with an SSD with a HARD Drive Caddy?

My laptop is a Toshiba Tecra R950-104.

    Kind regards

    Luis

    Hello

I found on the internet some UltraSlim SATA HDD/SSD mounting frame that allow the use of 2nd 2.5 HDD/SSD drive instead of ODD in Notepad Tecra R950 but to be honest I m not 100% sure if the BIOS recognize such additional device.

I know that computers Toshiba laptop (Portege and Tecra) series different takes in charge these updates in the past but this replacement was not supported by each laptop model.

It depends on the BIOS and in the event that the BIOS recognize the 2nd HDD/SSD drive, the system should be able to recognize 2nd HARD drive

  • Satellite U940 - replacing the screen

    Hello

My screen was broken and I need to replace it by myself but I don't even know where to start.

There are no screws or something? How to remove broken screen?

Now to maybe stupid question but why don't you replace one. I mean this laptop model is quite complicated for disassembly or I m afraid is not good idea to do this without knowing how to do this.

What you need is step by step maintenance manual, but this is not some sort of public document. I really put t know if you will be lucky and find someone here who can help you with this. U940 satellite is fairly new laptop. I also but I can't disassemble my and help you with this.

My advice to you is: contact the nearest Toshiba service provider and ask if they can help you with this, and how much it costs.

  • Satellite C650D-126 - ODD will not work

I have a Toshiba Satellite C650D-126 and it has stopped recognizing discs although it is trying to read. I ran Microsoft Fix It and everything he had to say was "the disk in drive [E:] is not detected, or failed to load." - that being said, there was a DVD in the player and he told me that it was not compatible, but DVD still worked.

MFI has also said "the reader might be faced with a problem - the status of the device is ok.

Can someone tell me what I need to do to get my drive working again?

    Thanks in advance x

What operating system do you use?
Are you using the original OS that you got with your laptop or your own operating system?
ODD is recognized in the BIOS?
Is ODD recognized and installed properly in Device Manager?
ODD is listed in Windows Explorer?
    ODD readable disks bootable?

  • Satellite A30: Replace keyboard

    Hello
We have a Satellite A30 but dropped to a file of the box on this subject, and the J and K keys broke off the coast.
A key may be repairable, but the other's definitely got some plastic broken on the rods.

The machine is now out of big but I'm good enough with repairs PC but PC, no cell phones!

I'm guessing that a replacement keyboard will be easier to fix than the keys themselves. I saw them on the net for A £39 + VAT. All that miss me are many instructions on the removal of the keyboard and replace it. Instructions and guides are available for the A30 Saturday?

    Thanks in advance,

    Chris

    Hello

The keyboard can be ordered from the Toshiba ASP in your country.

If you want to remove the keyboard, you must first remove the thin plastic above the F1 - F12 buttons. Under this coverage, you will find 2 screws which fix the keyboard. These screws must be removed.
After that the two screws were removed, you could take the keyboard.
But be careful; It s connected to the motherboard with the flat cable which you should remove everything first!

    Good bye

  • Satellite M30: Replace DVD with additional HARD disk?

    Hello!

As my Satellite M30-642 does not offer a modular Bay for the installed switches and I have a DVD burner for USB that I can use I think try an experiment: withdrawal of the DVD drive and replace it with an extra HDD/SSD.

As SSDS are very light, have no moving parts and does not necessarily need screws to be installed and the slot DVD brings the IDE and this could work to power connector. The DSS must be placed inside an old and updated the slimline cd-rom so that the change is not visible and the laptop is safe from dust etc.

Has anyone tried something like this before? Are there solutions to buy for Sat M30 (2004 vintage)?

    Cheers, obreitfelder

    Hello

As far as I know the Sat M30 doesn t support the slim select Bay and, therefore you cannot use this adapter instead of the CD/DVD drive.

    Sorry, it is not possible

    Good bye
