Satellite U500 and Bluetooth on Linux?

I was unable to configure the bluetooth on my Toshiba Satellite U500 - 11 d with Ubuntu 9.04.

Documentation, there are two main methods for activate bluetooth which is service provider of Bios (Phoenix or bios Toshiba bios). Load modules omnibook.ko or toshiba_acpi.ko (respectively). However, none of the known solutions work properly :(

Satellite U500 seems to incorporate a FRIEND (american megatrends...) bios. Is there a third option for bios machine FRIEND get the bluetooth in Linux?

Have you updated your version of Ubuntu (apt - get update) already?
As far as I myself remember with the standard version of first 9.04 Bluetooth didn't work, but worked again later on after a few updates.

  • Satellite L640 and Bluetooth functionality

Satellite L640 come with Bluetooth? If so, how to enable it?

If not, should what accessories I buy to get the Bluetooth functionality?

Can you please send us the complete laptop (L640-xxx) model name so that we can check the specs of the laptop on the Toshiba site.

What you can do is to check the list of installed programs in Control Panel > programs and features and check if the BT software is listed. Otherwise I think that your laptop is not BT
Another way to check is to use the FN + F8 key combination and see if there is option for WLAN only or BT is also offered. Laptop with BT have WLAN option only.

If you want to use BT with your laptop, you can buy the small stick USB BT, install the BT software and you will posibiity to connect external devices with yout laptop with BT connection.

    (1) high CPU temperatures
sensors command tell me: Core 65.0 0 ºC and Core 1 66.0ºC
I did: "solution works on this issue of processor on Ubuntu 9.04 fan (and perhaps other distros too): Add acpi.power_nocheck = 1 to the kernel boot line" this line has been precisely.
    The temperature drops, but little.
    (2) it's no possible Enable Wireless

    Hi juanantonio,.
If the chipset and its capabilities powersaving is no better supported you must live with temperatures a little higher...
but it's a long way at the end of specification - your system should run stable - check it out!

for the problem of wlan: go and find a driver/module for your wlan card, I guess it's a intel...
or change it with a model better supported by the operating system.

  • Satellite U500 - high slope noise

    Hello

I have a Toshiba Satellite U500 and the system itself seems to work perfectly. A month ago, my laptop started to make a noise, a constant noise from slope high unbearable. The only time where the noise stops is when the laptop is turned off and for a very short period of time when windows starts.

The noise seems to come from the speakers, but it continues if I put mute the speakers or not *.

    Hello

Are you sure that the sound comes from train workers?
Maybe the sound comes from a another part of material have you checked the HARD drive? You can try to disconnect the HARD drive and then start Notepad and go into the BIOS. You can hear the noise too?

In my opinion, this looks like a hardware problem. Therefore, you should contact a service provider authorized in your country. Technicians can check your laptop.

  • Communication satellite U500 wifi switch control does not work

    Hello

I have problem after update of the operating system from Vista 64 bit to win7 64-bit. The problem is in the wireless communication switch command before notebok. When I was with win vista, it works fine, post off - wifi off and post-wifi on (without restarting). But when I updated to win7 and install all the drivers of toshiba upgrade dvd, my wifi switch works as follows:

When I turn on notebook with wifi off button - its turned off all the time and the wifi does not work and fn + F8 (shortcut key for wifi) does not work too. I have to restart the PC with wifi switch in position-the wifi works fine and fn + F8 is able to turn on and turn off the wifi. But that put the material do not react to pass and - diode LED is always on (in case when I start the pc with position control on and in the case where is when off wifi LED is not clear and switching does not work).

I've updated wifi realtek drivers but still it does not work. IAM verry sorry for my English. I was looking into Toshiba diagnostic tool and there is no modem device, but yes, wifi is perhaps problem here?

Thank you very much for the reply. Tom

    Hello

Different Satellite U500 (and other models) supports various wireless network cards, and that's why you'll find also different WLan card drivers.

Your U500 seems to be equipped with an Intel Wlan card and here you can also download the right Intel Wlan card driver for this card:

  • Satellite U500 - Bluetooth emits BT monitor vs Bt Stack

    Hi all

    My wife machine is a Satellite U500 - 10 L PSU5EE-002003AR, now with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (originally with pre-installed Vista, later with W7Pro 32-bit).

Now, I always had various problems with Bluetooth on this machine, and it is the only machine I've ever had problems of Bluetooth with, for the most part related to connectivity to the internet via mobile phones.

More generally, I connect to the internet using a mobile phone to control Bluetooth Sony Ericsson and Sony Ericsson PC Suite software (currently and elm and occasionally a hazelnut or a C702.) This configuration has always worked without problem on all the other machines I used, like my Getac B300, the old HP Compaq 6710 b given to me by my former employer for a few years and even my old Thinkpad T42 (now deceased) and my mother's old Macbook untrustworthy. With these machines, I've never had problems connecting to one of the phones or internet, without any drops of connection or any other problem issues.

Not the same with this U500. I write this when connected through PC Suite, Bluetooth Monitor 4 as the hardware controller. The connection is intermittent at best, usually unreliable and sometimes downright impossible. Sometimes it works perfectly for days at the end, and sometimes it just refuses to work. As a general rule, however, get a connection more often than otherwise, but the question is annoying nevertheless.

Now, I tried a different approach: I uninstalled Bluetooth Monitor and SE PC Suite, installed the Toshiba Bluetooth Stack and tried to connect to the internet directly through the BT stack. I paired the Elm to the U500 successfully from the BT Stack Panel and managed to establish the connection, well. But I had no internet access whatsoever. Now, the phone shows that it is actually connected and if the BT stack control panel and monitor Windows 7 connection in the system tray, but there is no real access to the internet (I have only the small yellow triangle with the no message + internet access, but the phone is dialed in.)

Then, I tried to reinstall PC Suite (with BT present Stack), and things became even worse: now the BT itself between PC Suite and the phone connection is only sporadic and intermittent, but sometimes it works well enough to get a connection (although somewhat reliable).

So now I have uninstalled the BT stack, reinstalled the monitor BT and went back using PC as a result of the composition and the same issues that I mentioned previously to persist.

Now, my two questions are as follows: a. Why did not get any Internet with BT Stack, even if the phone was actually composed for the connection? and (b) assuming that the internet access issue is resolved, I'd maybe get a connection more reliable (i.e. one that is not suddenly decide to drop from time to time) with BT Stack instead of the installation of PC Suite/BT monitor?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

A long time ago I ve tested the BT feature with my laptop LG and everything was OK. The configuration was not so complicated.

Unfortunately, I can't help you with your problem. I put t knows anything about your mobile phone, internet provider, or anything else, so the only thing I can do here is to you recommend to visit the knowledge base of Toshiba BT under http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/bluetooth/?page=howto

You will find lots of interesting documents and also documents how to connect your laptop to the Internet.
    Check it out.

  • Re: Satellite U500-115 - problem with the bluetooth mouse

    Hello everyone,

I use a bluetooth mouse Saitek mouse with my Satellite U500-115 (OS: windows 7) and a have a real problem that is boring:

Every time that I do not use the mouse for 10 or 20 seconds the pilot (or what ever) rocking in a kind of 'sleep', and it can take up to 1 minute until the mouse is available again. It is defenitely is not a mouse problem. I tried the mouse with a laptop LG and a windows xp sytem and it worked perfectly.

    I tried the following:

1 put in place the current on the site of Toshiba bluetooth stack--> having not caused no difference in behavior.
2 put the mode to 'Full Power' energy saving--> that seemed to have some positive effect, but not always. Sometimes the time until the sleep mode begins seems to be a little more but not always. In the "Full power" the mouse seems to go back a little more quickly when he woke from the mode "standby mode".

Test: as I wrote this text, the mouse driver began the "sleep mode", now I'll move the mouse and take the time needed until the mouse will respond again a moment):
    45 seconds

Is it possible to put the bluetooth HID in some sort of "permanent way"? At least the touchpad also reacts independable mode of energy of the laptop; This is why I think that it should be possible to use a bluetooth HID in the same way.

    Thanks for any help!

    Michael

    Hello

Go to Device Manager, click Bluetooth radios and choose the generic bluetooth adapter. Then, right-click and select power management properties, umark, allow the computer to turn off this device to save power and press Ok.

I don't have a bluetooth mouse, so I can't check if works. Just assume...

I just bought Satellite U500-1F5 and I want to know how to turn on bluetooth?

    Hello

You can activate Bluetooth using the FN + F8 key combination. Just press this combination to turn on and if your laptop is equipped with a WLAN hardware switch, turn it on too.

After this start Toshiba Bluetooth tool and search for Bluetooth devices. :)

  • Satellite U500 - 10L and password protection

    Greetings,

I have Windows Vista (service pack 2) installed on my laptop Toshiba Satellite U500 - 10L (PSU5EE). Recently, I encountered a serious problem; Password Admin Windows is vulnerable through the Start Menu (hit F12 when you turn on the laptop) machine, I mean anyone with a USB/CD boot can crack the password.

Now I would restrict access to the Start Menu - or remove the boot by USB/CD options in the Menu. I just installed the updated BIOS (2.5 WIN), but unfortunately the BIOS provides no options to restrict access to or to modify the Start Menu. I find it is a major breach of security, is their anyway to deal with this problem?

    I appreciate your quick response.

    Best regards, John

    Hello

If you want to protect your notebook BIOS user password set - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/FAQ9202JE0000R01.htm
After than that nobody will be able to boot up your laptop and even pass BIOS check.

This way your mobile phone will be protected.
