Satellite U940-11 t - don't light - white LED (not flashing)

Hi guys,.

Yesterday, I opened my computer (Toshiba Satellite U940-11 t) to check the fan and clean.
Today when I try to turn on my computer, it works as expected.

Firstly, the launch of motherboard fan then stop.
Second, the prior LED (power & CPU) are white, without blinking.
My computer seems to be turned on but screen doest work... I can hear the fan going slowly...

I tried to turn it off, remove the battery in and out of the charger, then hold the power button / stop 30 seconds then turn it back on but I does not work...

I'm going crazy, I was so proud to do it quickly and on common sense... but locomotives mistaken.

What can I do?
That doesn't mean this white two LEDS no flicker?

I guess that the motherboard or a part of the motherboard (electronic power supply, CPU, etc.) likely to be affected...
Sorry, but that's all I could say on this issue.

How can I understand the meaning of the code please? :-(

Thank you very much for your help!

    Hello

It is a firmware simply displayed if no hardware problem have been located on the motherboard.
The LED provides this firmware and only the technician can read this code.
OK, you will probably be able to read this code, but you will find all the details on the meaning of the code.

I found a useful description how to read such a code.

  • Satellite U940-102 does not start

My U940-102 will not start today.
It was a very good laptop until I "upgraded" to Windows 10 this summer, after the startup is slow (probably the upgrade did not consider configuration RAID of SSD/HDD) and sometimes an update of Windows 10 would be stuck - once I don't see no choice but to remove the battery, who killed the dead battery. Since then he had occasional drive glitches, then yesterday an other update of Windows 10 has taken time, then showed a "disc of recovery. - can take more than an hour" message. A minute later the system was running, but when I turned on the laptop today, I'm just a black screen and the erratic whirring fan more a bit of noise disc, two white LED lighted at the front.

    The good news is that:
-J' have a backup of my data to an external HDU, although there are a few recent files I want to retrieve from the PC
-J' have a "twin" of the PC, a nearly identical and work U940-102 also "upgraded" to Windows 10.

    Then, how should I proceed?
It is likely (as I suppose) that the problem is only a defective HDU and replace the HDU and the battery?
If it's the HDU, should I replace it with another SSD/HDD Unit (which) or just a pure SSD ((who)?
I should do or try before you buy the new HDU?
What I have to do a Setup disk on a 16MB USB and if yes it would be sufficient to do this go the 'twin' on WIndows 10?
I'll have to migrate Windows 8 to 8.1, and then to 10 or can I skip a step?

    Thanks for any help!

Always in the hope of help.

I have created and checked a system recovery on a USB flash using Toshiba Recovery Media Creator on the 'twin' U940-102.
That was ok, but with the USB stick in the defective PC flash, nothing happens.
The PC is set to ignore USB key when starting or I'm doing something wrong.
I tried holding down the power button (after that 7 seconds the PC turns off), and then now zero key while
pressing power again, but it just whirs on the HDU and, occasionally, the CPU with a completely black screen fan.
Tried all three USB connectors, but no difference.

  • Satellite U940 - Random BSOD after replacing HARD drive

    Good day ladies and gentlemen!

I was wondering if I can win some lights here - as I google myself in a bunch of flange on the issue, I have!

I am a famous computer technician (modest too) and more recently, a client of mine introduced me to a ultrabook Satellite U940 - lovingly with the SSD / HDD Raid 0 configuration running our beloved Windows 8.

All things according to their entire course - Hitachi hard drive failed (as google tells me is to be expected).

So, I replace the hard drive by a great little number Western Digital, cloned from Hitachi, sector by sector, and after a significant cajoling with bcdedit and bootrec amount, I could so he could begin our good liked Windows 8.

However, since then, I have random BSOD, cold boots failed and all sorts of errors.

I ran all the regular patches - SFC/scannow, chkdsk/r, Windows 8 repair facilities, etc., but it is still volatile jolly.

Things seem not to be as they were with this Satellite little ol '-before any repair, the peripheral device manager showed two "RAID 0' in the category of hard drives, and since then it shows the individual SSD and the WD HARD drive."

I've updated the driver for the Intel Rapid Storage at latest on the Toshiba site, but nothing helps - alas!
The weird part is that if I do a reboot on this little beauty, she starts without any problems, but a start cold after a power off is a completely different question - dummy - spit crashing, dumping, in general!

If there is a troubleshooting there champion who can destroy my help in this situation, I'd be very impressed and never have if they could provide assistance in this regard.

Unfortunately Microsoft - are we are all end by using these products of ever-so-pretty Appl?

    Hello

I read in some discussions here in this forum only after replacing the disk SSD or HARD drive, the RAID configuration is lost and must be rebuilt on a device Windows 8.

But this can be done very easily, and this can be corrected by an authorized Toshiba because this procedure requires special tools and utilities.

Unfortunately, it seems to me that you will need to contact the ASP in your country to get this problem resolved :(

    Hello

I am DJ & artist and recently bought a toshiba for sets dj ultrabook parade and live sets with traktor pro.
I also do computer repairs so I know my way around the pc...

Now, at the beginning I had an occasional stuttering or interruption, which I blamed on the system settings, so I made a few tweaks here and there, disabled some stuf, uninstalled some bloatware...
    Everything seemed ok.

But my last show was a nightmare, suddenly all hell broke loose! Stutters major interruptions and I had to put in a cd backup which is pretty stupid when live...

Now, before everyone says its software trakor or a material that is causing the problem... No, this is not!
A lot of testing already before posting here

My last chance, if I don't find the sollution is format all and put on clean windows 7 without all the stuff of toshiba which could cause this...

You mentioned the Wdf01000.sys (Kernel Mode Driver Framework) files in your message.
As much as I know, that it is a hardware driver internal Microsoft which is placed in
    C: the folder \Windows \System32 \drivers.
The driver gives you access to the computer or ancillary equipment.

The reason why this file appear as a troublemaker can be connected to external devices connected to the USB ports as external mouse or other device.

To be honest, I wouldn't recommend disable or delete this file because it s a clean Windows driver and may be important to keep the system working properly.

In your case I recommend you check the connected 3rd party devices and also to test the combination of Traktor and Sat with connected U940 adapter mains or battery only. Also test it with WLAN enabled.

Your comments and good luck would be appreciated

  • error 'iaStorA.sys' on the Satellite U940-108

    Hello

I have a portable Satellite U940-108. I had to replace the hard drive failure.
After retrieving the backup of the following Win 8.1, start the laptop the error message system: System Thread Exception unhandled (iaStorA.sys).

This error also occurs if Win 8.1 is installed with an installation CD, and then the drivers are loaded.
I have updated the drivers to the latest version.

    I beg your help.
    A welcome message.
    Jordi Miralles.

After the HARD disk has been removed and replaced the RAID configuration is lost and must be rebuilt.
I don t know exactly the procedure, but in order to use the RAID feature that is controlled by the Intel Rapid Storage Technology, the RAID must be to rebuild and this can be done by the service provider accredited with special tools and method.

After that, I guess that this error will go away.

  • Ubuntu on Toshiba Satellite U940 - startup of: SSD

    Hi guys,.

I think buy Toshiba Satellite U940. The reason is that he a dimmable-up ultrabook so I'll buy 16 GB of ram and a 120 GB of msata SSD. I'm going to install ubuntu. But because I'm not sure that two important things, I would ask you first.

    1. can you the msata SSD was seen directly from the bios? I want to install ubuntu on it and also to have my case start and all programs there. I ask this question because I read somewhere msata SSD it is only for the purpose of the cache and cannot be seen directly because it is in RAID mode. So can we get around this thing from the bios? I just only to manipulate the msata SSD as a disk driver normal in my bones. It is this possible?

2 are all drivers for Toshiba Satellite available for ubuntu linux U940?

Thank you guys for your time.
    Harry

    Hi Harry

Good to hear about your projects!

I can't answer your question exactly since I don't have the necessary information to do so.
However, I can tell you some things that can help!

The RAID configuration is purely software-rendering. So it can be removed from f.ex Ubuntu disk-tool.
I installed Fedora on the U840 and U940 that have the same RAID on an internal SSD flash drive and internal HARD drive.

The RAID can easily be removed and that make storage devices appears as installation targets unique (e.g. SDA and SDB).

However, I can't tell you if any data 3' rd party SSD will work in the U940.

My Setup was when I used the 32 GB SSD as a target for the OS - which is actually a LOT of space for an OS Lnux.
The internal HARD disk has been mounted as HOME.
In this way, I had the speed of the SSD for all operations of the system (boot, updates...) while having massive storage HARD drive for personal data.

Regarding the drivers, I think in addition to the basic features should work (WiFi, screen, sound, etc).
In my tests, I noticed (but is no intensive testing is) no problem don't except the backlight on the keypad was not working on older kernels.

  • Satellite A300-1IW: HARD drive access light blinks every second

Hello everyone, and sorry for the English, I'm french :)

I bought a Satellite A300-1IW a few days and suddenly (don't remember exactly when) early light access HARD drive blinks every second and it continues even after several reboots!

It does so only with Vista; I checked the disk with 'diskmon' activity and I saw that even if it was * no. * disk * written * or * reading * the led continues flashing, so I think that it is not bound to certain services of vista (superfetch, indexing...)

A similar problem, I saw on a Microsoft support, but it was under windows 98 and with old motherborads!
    See: link: [http://support.microsoft.com/kb/138598]

So it seems that it is related to level Vista SCSI or DVD...

I have now is not critical, but it's annoying to have this led flashes all the time

You have an idea? Don't you think that it could be related to bios? I want to be sure before touching it, because it is always tricky.

    Thanks for your help

In my opinion, nobody can offer no comment because you already gave the answer. There is nothing unusual and certainly no reason to panic.

What do about it? What you want to do? Sorry, but this is a really stupid question. I can just offer you a stupid answer. ;) Take black tape and curl up the LED. ;)

Is there anyone who has done so he can me adivce?

The reason why you should not do anything. Small mistake and you can damage something. There are many smallholders plastic that can be broken.

Disassembly of the laptop will be by authorized personal order only and following maintenance manuals.

Have you tried to reduce cooling fan activity change the parameters for the method of cooling? You can find advanced power options n.

  • PC Health Monitor and battery cover Satellite U940

    Hello

    I have a Satellite U940 on Windows 8.1.

My question is if there is a relationship between the wear of the battery and the laptop on toshiba PC health monitor health.

For now my wear and tear on the battery is at 50% of the full capcacity according to BatteryBar
However, on the health monitor, it says that the health of my battery is good (full Green).

I can only go out about 1.5 to 2 hours in the life of my laptop and just ask for help and information on the issue of whether I should buy a new battery or is at - it something wrong with my reading of the battery.

    Thanks for reading this.

    > Now my wear and tear on the battery is at 50% of the full capcacity according to BatteryBar
However, on the health monitor, it says that the health of my battery is good (full Green).

The health of the battery shows you the State of health of the battery and not the State of battery charge.

    > I can't get about 1.5 to 2 hours of life out of my laptop
Battery working time depends on the use of the laptop. What does that mean?
Well, run the heavy performance software (games, video editing software, etc.), using the brightness of the light display or DVD movie playback would drain the battery quickly.

1,5 - 2 hours of battery time is not bad. But of course; sooner or later each battery must be replaced. It s just a matter of time.

  • Satellite U940 PSU6VA - updated to Win 8.1 without following the instructions

    I recently upgraded my Toshiba Ultrabook (Satellite U940 PSU6VA - 00S 002) of Windows 8 to 8.1 Windows.

However, I didn't know at the time where there was quite a long list of procedures that I should have followed before and after the upgrade (see [http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/generic/windows8_1-upgrade-stepbystep/]).

After the upgrade, I noticed that the computer is slow, and the fan would never stop. I finally discovered that the driver for the graphics card was gone, and so I used Toshiba Service Station for update my drivers. Now, everything seems to work normally (except that my Wi - Fi off frequently, but happening before the upgrade as well).

However, read the article I linked above, I see that I have not followed the steps correctly.
I do not uninstall the software listed in the annex is before the upgrade and I have improved my drivers without apparent order by Toshiba Service Station (rather that check the Toshiba website for good order, that article says).

So, what I want to know is: this will potentially lead to problems in the future?

Is it useful to do a factory reset and go through the upgrade process again? (I have all the time at the moment, so I can afford to do so.)

    > So, what I want to know is: this will potentially lead to problems in the future?

If your system works fine now, I don t think you will have some problems related to the upgrade.
But of course, you might get some problems of system in the future, no matter if you upgraded the system in the correct order. Something like that is not in the order of installation.

However, I have read in this forum that many people had problems with the Windows 8.1 because they did not follow the update instructions. In such cases, it s advisable to repeat the upgrade procedure

But in your case, all seems to work fine

  • Satellite U940 - backlight on the keyboard in Linux

In addition to Windows 8, I installed Linux Mint 14 cinnamon on my Satellite U940-101 (now I have a sort of dual boot by activating the UEFI option in Bios power switch). Everything works fine, except for the lighting of the keyboard under Linux.

According to other forums, the only possibility to activate the backlight is to disable ACPI in the Bios. The problem is that in the Bios of the U940-101 (Bios Version 1.20), there is no option, at least I'm not and there is also that no Bios update available yet.
Does anyone know how to activate the backlight of the keyboard in these circumstances?

    Thanks in advance!

As far as I know, keyboard backlight is controlled by the specific tool of Toshiba and it is designed for Windows operating system only, so I put t think that the BIOS update will or can help you with this.

  • Satellite U940 - 12 c: how to make recovery USB pendrive having only 2 DVD

    Hello.

I have a netbook Satellite U940 - 12 c, a software problem causing a HARD drive format and the SSD. Finally, I got the free Toshiba Recovery DVD (as it was not my fault, but a software one), two recovery DVDs.

And that's all I've got: an own Satellite, without partition recovery or any data in HDD or SSD. and the recovery of two DVD. Since my laptop doesn't have a DVD player, and I don't have an external, my question is simple: How can I make a boot USB key recovery by using data stored in the recovery DVD?

If anyone can help... Thank you!

    > How can I make a boot USB key recovery by using data stored in the recovery DVD?
In my opinion this isn't possible.
You cannot simply move the data from DVD 2 disks to USB. I think that this will not work.

In your case, you will need to use an external USB CD/DVD drive in order to retrieve the laptop using both disks.
