You mention that either the app that you have to read and write NTFS volumes but make sure that there is a compatible version of El Capitan. There is no free versions that any more except maybe that of Seagate.

  • Formatting hard drive in NTFS instead of FAT32 on E1550

Is it possible to format the HDD storage plugged into the USB port using the NTFS format.

When you use FAT32 pieces of backup software backs up files into blocks of 4 GB.  Told me to avoid that I have to format the drive with NTFS format to avoid this problem.

However, the Cisco Connect does not offer a choice on how to format the hard drive.

It was originally formatted in NTFS, but then I got permission issues and it would allow me to add the admin "admin".

Is it possible that I can format the drive using NTFS and always keep the correct permissions configured?

    Thank you

I don't know what happened, but I continued to reformatting, try different settings and turn things and finally, it started working.  The drive is formatted with NTFS and both computers have now access and permission to write to the disk.

    Hello

    Q.1

Whenever I'm copy/move files from my computer to a disc external hard or vice versa, I often had the message prompt "are you sure you want to copy this file without its properties?  The XYZ file has properties that cannot be copied to the new location.  YES/SKIP/CANCEL.

Please advice why I got this message and what it means.

    Q.2

Very that often, when I left and I deleted my external thumbdrive or a portable hard drive to my computer, I noticed that the trash on my desk was filled with a lot of files/folders that I have recognized that they were things of mine, but I did not understand how they appeared in the trash at the time when I did not remove my external hard drives before I left my computer.

Then, when I plugged my external hard drives to check if these files/folders had been accidentally deleted quickly, I found that they were still there.

This kind of incident occurred in Windows XP-based computers and Windows 7.

Please indicate why/how this could happen.

BTW, I couldn't find a correct classification for my two above questions in your Inbox "subject and Windows applications.  Therefore, I selected no matter how one.

  • Question: How can I format external drive in exFAT? NOT in NTFS!

OK, so frustrated that I had to go through the hedges to sign up here to ask a question like that. Why can I NOT format exFAT? I have many external HDDs that were formatted in exFAT under WIndows XP Pro but my new system, completely updated Windows 7 Professional, I can't format external drives of exFAT. The option is NOT available. In the Format window, file system, is the only option: NTFS (default), there is no other option. I googled the * on this issue and found no answer. This external hard drive MUST be formatted as a disc exFAT. Period. Someone please help.

I'm surprised the research online increase this... You can do it from the command prompt, but not from this dialog box.  Here's how:

-Open a command prompt by typing cmd in the start/search box, right click on the cmd search result and select "Run as Administrator"
-Type format g: FS:exFAT , then press ENTER to start formatting the G drive as exFAT
To view all other options, type format /? and press ENTER.

I have an external drive seagate expansion 1 TB that has a usb 2.0 and the source of clean energy, which I transferred all music, videos ect.

I thought I'd be smart and plug it into my xbox360 to live stream vids but all I ended up doing was changing all files to FAT32. Your description of what you did does not sense, so it is difficult to determine what are the things to the State in so it is difficult to give you advice on how to solve this problem.

As a first observation, although when you got first the reader he might well have been formatted in FAT32, storage of files on it has no "Edit."  Because Windows understands FAT32, files would have stored on the HDD external and recovered as usual.  However, FAT32 imposes a 4 GB file size limit, so if you work with video, you probably want to reformat the drive to NTFS.  Sure, reformatting the drive erased everything that was on the disk, so I hope you kept your files to their original location before formatting.  If you format the drive without saving files AND that you have not used the drive, you can recover the data by using a tool likeRecuva data recovery.  Of course, the recovery of a 1 TB drive will take time...

Please, step by step in detail what you were doing as "the process of change to ntfs.

Please describe what shows disk management, in the upper pane, both in the lower pane.

There should be 10 columns in the upper pane:
    Volume
    Page layout
    Type
    File system
    Status
    Capacity
    Free space
    % Free
    Fault tolerance
    Overhead

The lower pane should have a color bar (or bars) that indicates if the space is used as a partition primary, unallocated, etc..  You can see the colors associated with different types on the view > settings > appearance tab.  The lower pane should also indicate if the drive is "online".

  • Formatting the external drive

I have an external multi-interface (USB 2.0, eSATA, FW800) I formatted to NTFS on a guest Windows XP SP3 running under Fusion 3.1.3 on my 10.6.8 Mac (connected to the VM with USB at the time).  So far, the virtual machine that I used for formatting my Mac and another machine as physical under XP SP3 all recognize the format of this player and can access the files that I copied to it.

An another physical XP SP3 PC recognizes the drive but seems this computer as not formatted.  On the PC that does not recognize formatting, I tried the eSATA and USB interfaces.  Can anyone suggest what might be happening in this situation?  The news only that I found on Windows behaves in this way has proposed to change the drive letter to another value so I changed the drive letter in virtual and physical machine that I have problems with.  This is apparently a specific modification of the machine because it comes with the drive letter original on the physical machine that will read as one who does not see the formatting (e.g., the change did not).  The virtual machine sees as the new drive letter.

Even a suggestion of what might happen would be appreciated.  The physical machine that can not see the formatting has consulted other external drives in the past (will check that it is again tonight).  This machine had MacDrive installed for about 4 or 5 months now and it's the first behavior like that I pointed out (I have access to a Mac OS volume extended without problem on this machine while I have problems with this particular NTFS drive).

Thanks in advance for any information on how to understand what is happening with this machine and this drive.

Well, now you have partitioned/formatted with utility disk and its functioning, I guess it will have to remain a mystery because we can't examine the disc as it was partitioned/formatted on the problematic system.

I ran into similar situations and what I've done in the past is to wipe the drive with zeros and then partition/format it then start the system using GParted Live and it provides generally that nothing funky is written based on the peculiarities of the different systems of the car is moved.

Over the years, I've seen enough issues when non-native file system support has been added and or encryption is added too and I do not put much faith in all them play well together and for this reason avoid implementation of management of the file system not natives and modes when possible or.  If I do, it is usually done in a Virtual Machine in order to keep the host as clean and native as possible.  Or when their implementation natively do on my system out of production.

Should what format I use for my external drive for time machine?  I have a WD 2 TB that is formatted for PC new drive.  When I got to disk utilities to erase, and then reformat the options are

    1 mac OS extended (journaled)

2 mac OS extended (journaled, encrypted)

3 mac OS Extended (respect for case-sensitive, journaled)

4 mac OS extended (case-sensitive, journaled, encrypted)

See the information below If you can not back up or restore your Mac with the help of Time Machine - Apple Support

When you select a drive to use with Time Machine, your Mac automatically prompts you if you need to reformat the drive.

    • If you are using an external drive connected to your Mac, use disk utility to make sure that your backup disk is formatted in HFS + extended (journaled) and is the partition type GUID Partition Table (GPT).
    • If you use a time Capsule, formatting the drive for Time Machine preferences automatically formats the drive as HFS + Extended (respect for case-sensitive, journaled) with a GUID Partition Table (GPT).

I just bought the Mac Mini and have an external hard drive connected with my music on it.   I tried to click on search on iTunes, but could not get to find my music...   What is the best way to locate my music?

The best answer, to more information about your intentions and history. The direct answer is drag media files to the external drive to a blank playlist in iTunes. Of course, this copierait all the files on your internal drive.  The best solution would be to place previous to your new computer. A library is much more than simply a set of media files, however.

    Hi Lewiscolli,

Windows 95 (and their related components) will rise to a status not supported. After this date, Microsoft no longer provides incident support options or security updates. Microsoft does not offer an agreement of support for these products.

If you have always wanted to install Windows 95 on Windows XP, you can format the disk on which you want to install the new operating system (OS) with the help of the Windows XP disc. You can format the drive in FAT instead of NTFS format, then you can install the Windows 95 operating system using the disc.

You can follow the below mentioned article for more information:

  • Can I format my recovery disk if I copied the recovery on an external drive?

On my Hp computer, I noticed that my recovery was almost full.  So I copied it on an external drive.

My question is; Can I format my recovery if I copied the recovery on an external drive?

    Hello

    No, you can't.

And reading this on the recovery partitions:

It is supposed to have the files it contains, because it contains the files to reinstall the operating system.

Your recovery Partition was photographed on your hard drive during the production of your computer by the manufacturer for all of these reasons.

    1. If you want to reinstall Windows from in the case of a failure of the system, based on individuals or the keys at startup.

F10 or Alt + F10 or F11 are a couple of different manufacturers use sequences.

You will need to ask your manufacturer for proper sequence.

    2. to make the recovery disks on if your drive hard breaks down, so that you can then reinstall the operating system on a new hard drive.

Also ask them how to make records.

Your D: Recovery Drive is should not be used for backups, defragmented, etc..

There are backups on an external hard drive.

To resolve the problems that have arisen with the recovery D: Partition, you will need to contact the manufacturer of your computer to remove all that has been added to it.

    See you soon.

  • I need to transfer my docs from old XP to format external drive to new computer Vista.

This XP formatted external drive is partitioned into several directories. They stored the files wmv, songs, photos, etc.

When I plug in USB, Vista computer said that it has found the driver DEVICE USB IA37L080ATVC07-2. But this hard drive storage has not shown in the file manager.

Since my Office XP no longer works, I took the primary hard drive and a plan to set up as external drive to retrieve the documents and files...

Does anyone know how to make a Vista machine to copy files from external hard drives in XP?

Open "Disk Management" and see if the USB drive is listed, if so, then simply assign a drive letter to each partition on the USB drive. Then, open Windows Explorer and copy your files on the computer of Vista Basic.

  • How formatting a Mac OS external drive in windows 7

    Hi guys

Got an external drive that is mac OS. Disk management sees in car with no details. All options, including the "Format", is grayed out except to 'Delete Volume '. Question: How can I format this drive in windows 7 Home premium. No access to a mac, PC, to get in shape first.

If the TrekDozer solution does not work, you can try the diskpart.exe command-line utility.

    • In a command line window, type diskpart
    • List type
    • Find the desired disc, and then type select disk 0 (or whatever number it is, but make sure that you get it right!)
    • Format type
At this point, you can create a partition with diskpart, or use the disk management GUI.
