I need to transfer my docs from old XP to format external drive to new computer Vista.

This XP formatted external drive is partitioned into several directories. They stored the files wmv, songs, photos, etc.

When I plug in USB, Vista computer said that it has found the driver DEVICE USB IA37L080ATVC07-2. But this hard drive storage has not shown in the file manager.

Since my Office XP no longer works, I took the primary hard drive and a plan to set up as external drive to retrieve the documents and files...

Does anyone know how to make a Vista machine to copy files from external hard drives in XP?

Open "Disk Management" and see if the USB drive is listed, if so, then simply assign a drive letter to each partition on the USB drive. Then, open Windows Explorer and copy your files on the computer of Vista Basic.

No, don't "move".  install properly using the installation files and your serial number.

  • Transfer of files from the old HARD DRIVE to new computer without an old computer. (He's dead - can not use) I have the hard drive, but need help to transfer my old files and settings.

    ·        My old Win XP computer died - it is completely unusable. I bought a new PC with Win 7 Pro and 1 TB. I still have the old HARD DRIVE (250 GB) which I have attached on the new computer using an external enclosure supports SATA drives. The external hard drive is connected to the computer in USB 3.0. I checked that the new computer can see the external hard drive. (I also used for backups by changing the hard drive with a 2 TB drive 'mass storage' - that works.)

I searched the internet for possible solutions and found no help. If the transfer of files from Microsoft would change the disc to analyze, it would be simple. But if I select the OLD computer it scans the disk I'm on (new) - automatically.

Is there anyone who has had the same problem? He must be because computers die all the time and people buy new computers - who then, somehow, they get the former transferred files. I could do it manually, but that wouldn't change the settings. Last resort would be to buy an old computer XP (SATA), replace the drive. Transfer the files, and then sell this computer.

You may be able to recover your data files, but I hope that you will set up your new system to automatically backup a second internal hard drive or an external USB hard drive.

This suggestion may not work, but it's worth a try. Buy an external USB drive enclosure. They come in two sizes 2.5 "for the portable computer drives and 3.5" for desktop disks. You can purchase adapters for 3.5 "envelopes so that they can also be used with a portable player. Place the hard drive in the enclosure and connect to a USB port of another computer. Several hard disks are more able to start, but the contents of the disc can still be accessed, read and copied from the disk because you do not use the operating system on a failed disk.

Here is an example of the type of device, I suggest:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=external+hardrive+enclosure&tag=googhydr-21&index=aps&hvadid=14388537836&hvpos=1t1&hvexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=556960941559985931&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=b&ref=pd_sl_32uorbwbuk_b

You need only to the speaker, that you see are not necessarily more expensive. Thereafter, you can put an old hard drive usable, an abandoned because you need a larger drive internal, in the enclosure and use it as additional external storage.

  • How can I transfer encrypted files from old hard drive removed (transfer windows easy?)

    Hello

I'm trying to get some files off my old hard drive encrypted. He has xp on it, and I can't start on my new computer. Since it is a separate, apparently, I can't do either windows easy transfer. Is it possible for me to locate the certificate and key, or to transfer files with the key and the certificate on my new computer (I have password from the old computer if I need that)? Can I somehow run WET on this hard drive for keys/certificates can be transferred. This seems to be a common problem from what I have read.
Otherwise, do you have ideas on how to start my old xp disk on my new system without reformatting?
Very important to get these files.
    Thank you!

First of all, I assume you mean encrypted files (EFS, Encrypting File System).  These files are encrypted with a key that is still encrypted in your system like a certificate.  In order to read your encrypted on any other system files, you must restore the certificate from a backup.  The short article is mandatory for anyone considering the use of EFS:
"Best Practices for encrypting file system"
Special attention to the subsection down titled "why you should back up your certificates.

  • Need to transfer my mail from windows mail on vista to windows live mail on windows 7 - but having problems

I know there are a lot of similar problems on this forum but no one has mentioned a problem in the transfer of mail on a hard drive. I completed the following steps:

-Mail exported from Windows Mail on my computer vista laptop to a folder on the desktop

-A tried to save this folder on an external hard drive in order to import messages in Windows Live Mail on my new laptop Windows7.

Copying starts without a problem, but coming up with an error message telling me that the files will be copied without their properties. I can then choose to continue without properties or to cancel the process.

It is for as much as I got - emails are extremely important related to the work of the conversations and I desperately need to transfer! My old laptop is on its last breath and I would like the peace of mind of having saved emails before he dies on me!

Thank you very much in advance for your help

    Chloe

Hi - Thanks a lot for this suggestion. I have now managed to cross the emails. I continue when I got the message and it worked - I think that this has been facilitated by uncheck the 'read only' box in the properties of emails before copying.

Thank you so much for all help.

  • Help! I need to transfer my files from one user to another on your own computer. How can I do this?

Please be very descriptive.  need help now

    Hello rokr676,

Thanks for posting your question on the Microsoft answers Community Forum.

One of the easiest ways to transfer files is to use Windows easy transfer.

Windows Easy Transfer is installed with Vista and is found under Accessories - tools system or by searching for "easy" (with the quotes).

You can transfer files and settings using a network share, or transfer files and settings using removable media such as CD/DVD or external hard drive. Windows Easy Transfer does not migrate installed applications.

Using Windows Easy Transfer, you can migrate most of the files and the program settings. The following table describes the types of data and parameters that can be moved.

    Data type
    Specifications

Files and folders We can choose to be automatically moved all the files found in the folder My Documents, my pictures and Shared Documents. You can also add other documents located in other places. The messages and settings E-mail messages, contacts, settings, account and address books from Outlook Express, Outlook, Windows Mail and other programs. The program settings Programs that are compatible with Vista will have their settings transferred to the new computer. So that this works, the program must already be installed on the computer running Vista. User settings Desktop settings, color, screen savers, fonts settings, options Windows, printers, etc. Settings Internet Favorites, cookies, and Internet Explorer settings. Photos, videos and music The music files, playlists and album. Images (gif, jpg, bmp files) and personal videos.
    Manually transfer:
Open a session with the new user account that you may have created. To ensure that this new user account has administrator privileges.

Open Explorer > organize > folder and Search Options > view tab > check show the hidden files and folders > OK to save the settings.

Now navigate to your C:\Users\(Old Username folder) and copy all the files and folders in the folder C:\Users\(Old Username) in the C:\Users\(New Username folder).

If please reply back and let us know if this helped with your question or if you need assistance.

    Sincerely

  • With the help of Windows Easy Transfer - need to transfer the old HARD drive to new computer - old HDD attached as external drive for the new usb port of the computer - help

New computer installed Windows 7 and gave me an option to use Windows easy transfer to transfer files, data, programs, etc. from my old computer.  All I have from the old computer's hard drive; a lightning strike fried either food or his mother by car.  I have attached the hard as a disk to the new computer using the usb cable provided with the external hard drive case.  It is recognized as drive E: on the new computer.

Trying to follow the instructions given by the Windows Easy Transfer software.  Get the software/folder from the old hard drive (drive E), but trying to run the software that I can't seem to do anything on the old disk.  When asked what is the former or the new computer - I respond to old, but no new file is created for the transfer.  When I answer again, a new file is created on the new computer (rather than the old HDD) and then he transferred again to new.  I can't create a file of whatever it is I want to transfer from the old HDD.

I can't use an easy transfer cable because the old computer does not only the hard drive.  I can't connect to a network for the same reason.  I only have the hard that I can attach to the new computer.  But I can't get the new computer to process the old hard drive separately for transfer purposes.  The only other option I can think of is to attach the old HDD to another computer, and then try to run the software in this way, but I don't want just the stuff on the old hard drive a copy to the other computer.

Can anyone help?  Suggest how to get the old hard drive files, data, transferred etc. to the new computer.  What are the steps?

    Thank you.

Do yourself a favor, with the old drive connected externally, in the browser, simply copy the data files to the location of Documents of the PC win7. You can not copy programs, they need to be reinstalled from media origonal. You can copy all the downloaded files instalation

You may need to take possession of your old documents folders - see win help to find out how

  • I need to transfer my data from my iphone 6 down to a previous 5s (owned and backed up on my MBPro)

How can I transfer my data from the iPhone 6 down to my iPhone 5s?  Thank you.  Al

Back up and sync your iPhone to iTunes 6. Set the backup to encrypt. Then connect your iPhone via USB cable 5s and choose to restore the backup of the iPhone 6.

Your iPhone 5s must have the same version, or more updated iOS installed on it that the iPhone backup 6. If this isn't the case, set up your iPhone 5s as a new device, update 9.3.2 iOS software and files then it from the backup of the iPhone 6.
