  • Search for Windows 7, why not if give me the files that are not yet in my augument search?

Windows 7 Home premium 64-bit OS.

Have a lot of files are duplicated.

In Windows 7 lets say the files in the folder have files that look like:

    Bill 120.le rar
    Bill 121, rar
    Bill 1 .rar

and we want to remove duplicates with '(1) '.
and we enter research * (*)

Under XP it would only list the file: Bill 1 .rar IF you entered *(*.)  or *) * or (1), etc.

    Bill 1 .rar

In Windows 7, since I started to use Win 7 years, everything I do is get frustrited when it will sometimes give me what I ask for the Bill 1 .rar.
but most of the time like now, will give me ALL the files WITH and WITHOUT the "()".

    Bill 120.le rar
    Bill 121, rar
    Bill 1 .rar

WHY?  and how can he give me what I asked?

(I tried ALL the settings and they all do the same thing)

    Enter in the search box:

    name: ~ = "{}"

The ~ = indicates to Windows 7 search to look anywhere in the name.  Usually, the quotes would not be needed, but( ) has a functional use of search for Windows 7, and the quotes tell Windows 7 search just deal with ( ) as a chararacter.  I tried to find a way to search for a (?), after? as a wildcard but couldn't.  [Update: solution concludes, at the end of the post]  However, you can enter this to search for files named with the two ( and ), but not necessarily appearing in the (#) form.

    nom : ~ = "(" nom : ~ = "")" »

    or more compactly,

    nom : (~ = "(" ~ = "")" »)

Update: more than a month later, I realized the more compactly.  Subsequently, the? is interpreted as a wildcard character.  If more digits is possible, then additional search with? exactly two for? for exactly three and so on.

    Name: ~ "* (?) *"

If filename: is used instead, then the tilde is redundant:

    filename: "* (?)" *"

  • Help? A matter of search for Windows 7...

I need to do a search for - only - hidden files or folders.  I know I can put Explorer "Show hidden files and folders", but it shows - all files, not just those with the hidden attribute.  I don't want to go through every file on my machine to pick them up.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks :)

We cannot directly use Windows 7 search to generate a list of items with a specified attribute.  We can however in the command prompt.  Or, a third option is to use another software of research that is out there that allows searching by attribute.

If using Windows 7 search, search using other properties you want, and then set the results window to display the named attributes column.  (You can specify the columns of information appear - just right-click on any column title to display a menu, then click more... for a list.)  Move the pointer of the mouse on the title attributes column and button click the arrow that appears to the right of the title.  Click to put check marks in the boxes to the left of the desired attributes and combinations of attributes in the list of choices that appears.

Alternatively, with search for Windows 7, you can search with the attributes property, but oddly only by a numeric code that represents the sum of all the attributes of a file could have.  Looking for attributes: 2 will give you all the files that have the hidden only attribute and no other attributes, but because the files can have several attributes, there are numerous possible different amounts you would search too so it isn't practical.

With a command prompt window, you can navigate the directory (folder or disk) that you want to search in (if you are familiar with the tricks of MS-DOS) and enter:

    dir / a: h/s/b > results.txt

to create a file named results.txt in the current directory.  Leave aside the/s if you do not want the included subdirectories in the search.  Leave aside the/b (naked format) If you want to see the date, time, size and the information summarized for each file.

Other software from research that can search by specified attribute includes:

  • Indexing options and search for Windows 7 are not locate content of the document since "update" Open Office 3.3 3.4 (he worked for 2 years before that)?

I have Win 7 with Service Pack 1. I have "updated my Open Office 3.3 to 3.4 and now Win 7 search and options DO NOT locate my document content indexing more? I contacted the support of Open Office: http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=55483

They claim that: "indexing and search in Windows 7 are performed by Windows 7", so there is a problem with Win 7 search and indexing options.

I checked the indexing options in Windows 7 and the "Index Properties and content of the file" is selected for ALL the 'odt' as well as all the files 'o'.

I set up a test document: I put only one word "Wednesday" in the Open Office text document, saved and it called "text". I am looking for Wednesday and the search comes up with two other documents containing the word Wednesday in them, but not the Test document?

I just discovered something. When I did the 'Test' experience above, the file was saved in format 'odt' a:. I changed it to a ".doc" file and it now appears in the search results. As mentioned above, I've changed ALL the files starting with the letter 'o' in Indexing Options > Advanced Options > Types of files to the article: 'properties Index and contents of the file. The description of filter for files 'odt' comes back as: "IFilter shop OpenOffice IFilter" where as 'doc' filter is listed as a: «Filter Microsoft Office» Is it a "Boutique OpenOffice IFilter IFilter: issue" Blocking "the documents appear in the search results? If so, how should I do (I mean in addition to all the documents 'odt' replacing 'doc'?

Just to clarify: document names 'odt' come to a search, but not the content document.

  • Search for nightly bar works not with StartPage.

I am a user every night that upgrades every day. A few days after the upgrade I ended up having to install a third-party application which unfortunately also installed a few research of Delta and the spam toolbar without me knowing. I've removed all the unwanted Delta I could find, but later discovered that when doing a search for home page of the search bar every night he now just would take me to the homepage of Startpage.com instead of performing the search and returns the results she had always done before. I suspect that the search for Startpage URL has changed by upgrading every night or the junk of Delta, or something in this sense. I tried to reset every night at his State by default as well as to remove and reinstall the Startpage search engine but no luck. Looked everywhere but could not find where the Startpage search URL is saved so I can go back to normal behavior. Other search engines work as usual from the search bar every night. Any ideas?

Startpage search engine works normally again after a few more nightly updates.

Original title: Vista 2. Windows Update says first major update but cannot search updates. I get error code 800700B 7.

I fight with my laptop Acer Aspire 5313 since before the new year, trying to get my Media Player to work... trying to get my updates to load and I finally did a restore disk in desperation. I noticed when I did restore the Version of Windows Vista Home Premium it restored to was that for Service Pack 1, it should have been 2 Pack and registration of license # is different from that on the Windows label on the bottom. I downloaded the Service Pack 2 of MicroSoft.com as my laptop came with ANY disks and I thought I'd finally be able to perform the necessary updates and get at least my laptop up and running again as it was before the problems started. When I try to get the updates, it says I must first update Windows Update. I try to update, update and get tells me it can not search for updates. error code 800700B 7. Help! Please...

    Hello
You can follow the steps and then check.

    Step 1:
You can try to disable the antivirus installed on your computer software.
You can see the following link.
    Disable the anti-virus software
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/disable-antivirus-software

NOTE: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

    Step 2:
You can try to reset the Windows Update components. Read the following article.
How to reset the Windows Update components?
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/971058

    It will be useful.
  • Pane (Advanced) search for Windows 7?

I've been using Windows 7 for a while now and love it!

However, when I was preaching to my family and my friends, they asked me if the search pane advanced (that we had running XP) is back in Windows 7.

Of course, with the advanced Windows search query syntax (let's call this AQS), we are able to achieve what could research advanced and much more. But then, they have made a very good point:

Why I (they) should learn/remember a special syntax to run a research complex, when the advanced XP search pane was so much easier? And I kinda agree with them.

For example, without looking at the documentation of AQS, how many of you can come immediately with the unique search criteria for:

    1. all files jpg and png (only)
    2. who are in e:\images and d:\images, and f:\dir\images
    3. without recursing into all subdirectories
    4. who are more than 10 KB
5 and has been created between December 25 and January 1?

Anyone got an answer for this?

Or is there some kind of advanced research as in Outlook? Choose from a list of filters the search/filter field, and you get a nice label/text box to type in?

I did some research and it seems that he has only partial (limited) support for this. For example, in the music library, you can only add filters to the Album, artist, Genre, length; Documents: Authors, Type, Date modified, size; etc.

And when you are not in a folder on an external drive of library, for example, only filters that you can add are updated and the size.

Are there ways to add more filters? Or are we limited either: 1) based on the filters that Windows 7 * THINK * we need, or 2) loop down and memorize the AQS?

    [Edit]
Here's another story: I was explaining to my mother how you could build a search criteria AQS, and she pointed to (paraphrasing), "why he tries to search when you are not actually type? Why not have a search button that starts the search only when you're ready to? »

It's just me, but how do you even get here?

My "search" stands usually just before I can even START adding a filter. That initiate original research of a new Explorer window? Or start you looking for the start icon, and then add a filter... or...?
For me, the search is missing... 99% of my data is on a network share, and it does not find it, even if I'm in the folder that I'm looking for
