Search Protocol host crashed in windows vista

Hi did a scan with mr fixit, and he said that my windows search protocol host has crashed, and my search index keeps crashing. Iwent into index and the beginning, did stop, I tried the reset, I couldn't delete the search index or search Windows and then restart the computor wouldn't let me even if I am an administrator. Anyway is there anyone who knows, or has had this problem. Something that makes sense would be appreciated.

Thank you

Hi marvinappleby,

·         What exactly happens when you try to reset/rebuild search index? You get the error message?

·         Remember to make changes to the computer, after which the issue started?

I suggest you to download and save the following Microsoft Fixit then run as administrator and check if it helps:

Also, take a look at the following links:

I get a Microsoft Search Protocol Host has stopped working the alert box. How to solve this? It gives me the option to 'Search online (recommended)', but when I click on it nothing happens. 1. have you made changes on the computer before this problem?

    2. when exactly you get this error?

I suggest you try to reset to a new start Indexing Options by removing and then rebuild the index and check if it helps.
Your search index requires virtually no maintenance. However, if the index looking for files that you know problems must be in a location indexed; You may have to re-create the index.

    To rebuild the index:

    a. open indexing and Search Options by clicking the Start button, click on the Control Panel, clicking system and Maintenance, and then clicking Indexing Options.

    b. click Advanced Options, click the index settings tab and then click on rebuild. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    Thank you.

If by "computer of new beginning" you mean that you have started your recovery or disk restore factory set and reinstalled Windows, then the ability to recover your files is practically zero.  You can try a utility like Recuva (http://www.piriform.com/recuva) but since you have rewritten the entire hard drive, it is highly unlikely that anything will be recoverable.

  • Crash in Windows Vista Home Premium

My Dell with Windows Vista Home Premium OS desktop computer crashed.  How can I get a new Installation of Vista, or the recovery disc when I have an activation key valid for my OS.  I can only start in safe mode and can't access the Internet on this subject.

    Hello

You can contact Dell and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks.

They should do this for a small fee.

And if you have never received a recovery disk when you bought your computer, there should be a recovery Partition on the hard drive to reinstall Vista on how you purchased your computer.

Here's how it works with a Dell:

    http://support.Dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/KCS/document?c=us&l=en&s=Gen&docid=DSN_336966&isLegacy=true

Some manufacturers have more available Vista recovery disks.

If this happens and / or your recovery partition is damaged, you may need to try this instead:

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

Here's how to do a clean install of Vista using a DVD of Vista from Microsoft:

"How to do a clean install and configure with a full Version of Vista '

    http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/117366-clean-install-full-version-Vista.html

And once the operating system is installed, go to your computer manufacturer's website and get the latest drivers for your particular model or laptop computer.

And phone Activation may be necessary when you use the above installation method.

    ========================

Check with Compaq Support, their drivers and documentation online and ask the HP? Compaq
Forums for known issues. Be sure to see if you have the latest drivers.

This utility, it is easy see which versions are loaded:

-Free - DriverView utility displays the list of all device drivers currently loaded on your system. For
each driver in the list, additional useful information is displayed: load address of the driver, description,.
version, product name, company that created the driver and more.
    http://www.NirSoft.NET/utils/DriverView.html

For drivers, visit manufacturer of emergency system and of the manufacturer of the device that are the most common.
Control Panel - Device Manager - graphics card - note the brand and complete model
your video card - double - tab of the driver - write version information. Now, click on set to update driver
(this can do nothing as MS is far behind the certification of drivers) - then do a right click - Uninstall - REBOOT
This will refresh the driver stack.

Repeat this for network - card (NIC), Wifi network, sound, mouse, and keyboard if 3rd party with
their own software and drivers and all other main drivers that you have.

Now in system manufacturer (Dell, HP, Toshiba as examples) site (in a restaurant), then the manufacturer of the device
site (Realtek, Intel, Nvidia, ATI, for example) and get their latest versions. (Look for the BIOS, Chipset and)
software updates on the site of the manufacturer of the system here.)

Download - SAVE - go to where you put them - right click - RUN AS ADMIN - reset after each
    installation.

Always check in the Device Manager - tab drivers version you install actually shows up.
This is because some restore drivers before the most recent is installed (particularly that audio drivers) so
install a driver - reboot - check that it is installed and try again if necessary.

Repeat to the manufacturers - BTW in the DO NOT RUN THEIR SCANNER device - check manually
    by model.

Look at the sites of the manufacturer for drivers - and the manufacturer of the device manually.

  • Crash of Windows Vista after the SCREEN of HOME Toshiba

    Greetings,

My father work laptop, a Toshiba Satellite L300D, running on Windows Vista, seems to have fallen, and it is promised (because he recently ordered a new laptop) that if I fix it it gives me.

The problem is that as soon as the laptop turns on, after the start of toshiba, but before the vista screen start loading screen, the system stops and everything is white '_' in the top left corner that flashes and disappears, leaving me with an empty black screen. I tried all below, in vain.

    • Press F8, no matter how long, when and how many times, seems to have no effect. After pressing it enough times, the laptop starts beeping for a second every time I press another key.
    • Removing the battery and pressing the power button for 60 seconds seem to have no use either.
    • The recovery disks do not work. After that they load, the screen empty boring, with the small '_' rises again.

Please note that before any loading screen, it crashes. I tried going in the system (by pressing F2) Setup and see if there is a way of fixing it. I don't see a possible solution.

    Help, please!

Create a Ubuntu Live CD ( http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/download ) put it in your CD-ROM drive, and then try to start with it (go to the start menu, use the arrow keys and enter to select your CD-ROM drive), and then selecttry without any change to your computer.

If you can boot from this summer with success, it means that it is certainly a software or a hard drive problem.
replace the hard drive will correct these two questions (you will need to get a new operating system) or you can try to clean the drive with a live Ubuntu CD and just buy a new OS (or use ubuntu).

  • Satellite A200 (PSAE6) crashes on Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit

    Hello

I recently had a few frequent freezes on Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit Edition, I think it's maybe the video card (ATI HD2600 mobility). I have already downloaded and installed the latest drivers from the Toshiba site, but it continues to, sometimes, when I'm playing games, the screen blinks for 5 seconds or more and then would become black, completely erased, but the background sound and everything still works well and I am able to shut down the PC by pressing the power button once and then restart it normally.

It's a minor problem, the major problem is the freezing point, it freezes completely without warning, but oddly enough, he freeze by practicing a game! But freezes on normal operations (internet, office, etc.). I did the tests, tests of HARD drive memory, all in good health, and worse, on the Windows Event Viewer could not detect any problem, simply says 'unexpected system shutdown.

    I'd appreciate help please.

    Thank you

Hi I do not know if this will help, but you've got service pack 1 installed on your laptop, as when I installed it on my desktop the first time it caused blue screen errors and gave me a lot of problems, including the error messages that seemed to come with applications, I opened and a boring IQRL driver equal or less than but could not work why and then ultimately , I had so many problems that I had to completely reformat my office and I removed my scanner XP and webcam (both had vista drivers) and when I reinstalled service pack 1, it was beautiful, if by any chance do you have anything attached to your XP laptop and vista drivers as these seemed to be what was causing my errors.

Also a question about your graphic card drivers, I have the same laptop as you and was looking for updates to the graphics driver and couldn't find them anywhere on the site, where did you find yours? I use Vista Home Premium 32 bit, my model number is A200-28 p (PSAE6) and I would like to know if there is a new graphics card driver but can not find on the basis of knowledge, so the fact you have updated your would be could you point a new user in the right direction :-)

    Thank you

  • In windows XP Home Edition, running MS Office 2007, I get the following error: windows search protocol host has encountered a problem and needs to close

Every time I have open internet explorer, I get the error message that the research protocol has encountered a problem.

It occurs intermittently.  MS error report indicates a problem with searchprotocolhost.exe

How can I fix?:  Anyone know?

My recommendation, you use Windows XP, uninstall the Windows Desktop Search and never install it again.

Option 1: In Add/Remove programs with the box checked next to 'Show updates' above checked locate "Windows Desktop Search 4.0" in the list and uninstall/remove it. "

Option 2: If the above fails, you can use this method to remove...

    1. click on Start , type cmd.
    2. now, in the result of the research with right-click on cmd.exe and select run as administrator.
    3. type regsvr32 /u "%programfiles%\Windows Desktop Search" and press ENTER.

For users of Windows XP for most it does, IMO, is slowing down the system.

  • The commas to search works is not in Windows Vista

In Windows XP, I was able to do a search by commas on a network share.  I can do is no longer a search of delimited by commas.  Is there another solution to find the list of files with different names in a network share?  If there is a way, what is?  In addition, there is a limit to the length of the string?  If so, what is it?  In XP, the length of the string was limited to 256 characters.

    Hi Mert,

I don't know no limit in length, although it is probably a.  However, the search syntax is different now.  The OR operator between each name of file instead of commas.   See examples of using operators in the pages below:

  • Windows Vista black after login screen and Explorer has stopped working error

    Hello world

I have a very big problem. Whenever I connect to my computer that is running Windows Vista Ultimate Edition all I get is a black screen and a mouse pointer. I can use Ctrl + Alt + Del or Alt + Ctr + Shift lift the the Task Manager, and from there I can run firefox. Once in Firefox I can use the option open the file to find programs, do a right-click and then run them. But I want my back office. When I try to run Explorer from the Task Manager and then I get an error message saying it stopped and must be closed. I also keep getting an error message for something like 'Windows Search Protocol Host' or somesuch. A large part of time that this will just about a five-minute cycle in a style of window minimized down thing then the error message poopping upwards. I am also quite unable to open Control Panel or MSCONFIG. Whenever I try that they freeze and I get an error message saying that they have a problem and need to close. Also I did not change my software recently. In fact it worked fine yesterday when I was with Photoshop Elements 7.0. Another thing that can help anyone trying to find an answer that is in most of the forums help I saw people talking about going into regedit (something I CAN open it) and put the shell on explorer.exe. Mine is already set to explorer.exe. It is also something else that many videos help and forums have said I should close explorer.exe in Task Manager process tab, then run it again. I don't have an explorer.exe in the processes tab and when I try to run it I just get "WIndows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close."
