Second 64 Vista clean install from upgrade costs DVD, $99?

My first Vista 64 installation was a clean installation of a DVD upgrade, that I have upgraded XP, and only a clean install was possible, then (2005). I chose Vista, he was then (and I think still is) only possible to use my ASUS mobo to combine with this OS PCI video card.  The hard drive died recently, and after I reinstalled on a new hard drive and made the odd updates hundreds, telephone support assured me it's 100% possible for them to turn it on again, but as that (I think change remote registry) process was "Advanced Troubleshooting", it would cost $99.  I asked to speak to his supervisor, and after a wait, the line was cut off. I called back, got the same result, and after a long wait, the second tech supervisor told me the same thing, with a reference to an article that pointed out that if I reinstalled a previous operating system of microsoft and started the process of upgrading within this installation of windows, it would activate.  I tried the first time, and the upgrade option has been grayed out, so I think it won't, if I go to XP.

Do I use? Or do I have to buy Vista again?

Hello

When you have a version upgrade of Windows, you must install the previous operating system before installing the upgrade.

Once you install Windows XP, you must install all security and optional updates for unity.  When you are finished, you install the upgrade.  It can then be activated.

If I had to do a clean install of W7 with the hp upgrade disk, can I still use the upgrade wizard AFTER install to get the drivers and other things on this disc of the wizard, or is it just to use "upgrades"?

Also, read the instructions on the Web site, it is said to run the wizard disk before installing W7, but I guess just do it if you do an upgrade and not a clean install. Is this correct?

    Dan,

The desktop upgrade assistant DVD works almost the same way as the portable version.  It will check your BIOS and if necessary, install the latest version.  And Yes, insert the DVD after the custom/clean installed.  The drivers and software for your model will be installed.

  • Vista Clean install fails on Reboot Final - multicolor screen pixelated

I have already upgraded to Windows 7 on my Toshiba Satellite P205-S6237 and find that I have problems with starting and the display driver. Yesterday, I decided to downgrade using a Vista Home Premium install disk is no longer used in my house on any computer. I have booted from the disc and run a clean install on my disk 'Disk 0 unallocated space', and everything seems very well installation. Once the list of tasks installation is complete on the vista installation window, my computer restarted on the desk and a window came telling me that my computer knows final installation (not to interrupt!) and could restart when finished. After the final reboot, my computer seems to be nothing (black, backlit display) or a screen that is covered in stripes multicolored pixelated on the bottom half appears.

I tried to restart my computer in safe mode (installation can not be completed it), pure install my image backup (the same problem occurs) and "revaluation" of XP (no previous windows OS found, so it will not be updated).

If anyone has had the same problem or has any suggestions?

PS: I forgot to mention that I tried the Startup Repair, and it tells me that there are no problems to report.

  • How to do a clean install from my computer?

My computer got very slow of late, and I was told a clean install is the best way to clean it up. I don't have an XP disk that the computer came with one, but I do not have the Toshiba restore disk. How can I do this without destroying the whole thing?

What model of laptop do you have?

Just to boot from the recovery disk and it will reload Windows to its factory condition.

A primary role of a set of recovery disks is to rebuild a machine after the failure of his HARD drive, in Exchange for a bigger HARD drive (capacity)) or Exchange a HDD with a SSD. I do not see why we cannot use the game in this case.

  • Is it better to clean install or upgrade to Windows 7?

Windows 7 Ultimate - new installation or upgrade

I have WIndows 7 Home Premium currently installed on my laptop. (It was preinstalled by the manufacturer when I bought the laptop.)
I upgraded my main hard drive to SSD, so I got a mirror image on the SSD, including the Windows 7 operating system and drivers.

Now, I want to upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate. Here's my question. Given the fact that the Windows 7 Home Premium currently on my hard drive is mirror image (copy of my old hard disk where the OS has been installed by the manufacturer), it is better for a clean installation or an upgrade ever?

    Thank you.

Making an Express upgrade will do just fine.

If the license for Windows 7 Ultimate, you have access to is an upgrade of retail full version or upgrade Express, you can use the product key and upgrade Express from Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 7 Ultimate. First of all, check that the edition of Windows 7, you are upgrading is already enabled (if it isn't, you will encounter complications and that you might start all by performing a clean installation). Click Start, type Anytime Upgrade, click on the option enter a key, enter the key of Windows 7 Ultimate edition at the request, click Next, wait while checking the key, accept the license agreement, click on upgrade, wait while the software upgrades, (it may take 10 minutes or more depending on the if updates are required) your computer restarts automatically, after the reboot, Windows 7 will notify you updating the computer, the computer will restart once more automatically and will be completed the upgrade, a window will appear notifying the upgrade was successful and your computer is ready to use, click Close, you should be upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate files the stored settings and programs.

  • A1777c Pavilion: Pavilion a1777c abandoned Vista Clean Install

    Gentlemen.

I have a Pavilion a1777c desktop I got recently at a thrift store. Everything needed was a HARD drive, so I put in a Western Digital 1 TB SATA and tried to install Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit which is it bundled with the operating system.

I say "try" because the facility cancelled at the last step, "Installation complete", with a window that pops up reading "Windows Setup could not configure Windows to run on a hardware on this computer." As far as I know, everything is just what the computer shipped with - except the most recent, more large capacity HDD.

The first thing that occurs to me is that the Vista installation disc I used was SP1. I have used it before on a HP laptop and it was no problem. I have SP2 on another drive and could put after the initial installation, but the a1777c comes with a PCI graphics card and a TV/FM tuner card. It could be that support HP original installation included SP2 so that I could use my Vista SP2 installation disc included to get a successful installation.

I would consider a set of rescue disks, but this option is not available on the downloads and software page for this computer. There could be a third party for the received media resource, but probably at three times the price HP would be deducted.

This computer, as delivered, will work correctly under Windows 7? The drivers and software page I chose Win7 because the OS just for fun and there was only one thing that came as different from the stuff available for Vista. If it turns out that the rescue media obtained from a third party was the only realistic way to go, I am tempted to put this money to Win7.

In any case, I talked enough about it. Do you think I'm onto something with the installation of Vista SP1 the problem disc, or it could be something else?

Your interest in the problem and its solution is appreciated!

    Grant

    Hi, grant:

It is possible that the new hard drive, you have purchased is a hard disk advanced format which does not have Vista.

The format of the format hard drives advanced with the GPT table instead of the older MBR partition table, so that they can work with the latest UEFI BIOS, which is not your model.

    So, here are my recommendations...

1 visit the site Web of WD and see if they have a bootable tool to format the drive in the MBR.

You need to remove all partitions, to make a new partition, format it to NTFS MBR and see if Vista installs it.

    2. There is free 3rd software suites of party that can do that for you like this...

  • NTLDR missing in Windows Vista (Clean Install). Help, please.

I have a Dell laptop which comes preinstalled with Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium. A few days ago I reinstalled Windows vista with the Vista CD provided with my Dell computer.  Everything went well. I even had SP2 installed for vista. Suddenly, without warning, I get this error message: "NTLDR missing_ press any key to restart '. I can boot is no longer. I need your help! Thank you!

    A few points to consider:

    • I tried all the Vista DVD repair options, including restoring the system.
    • My computer NEVER had XP (EVER) when I say never, I mean. I'm emphasizing this because all the foums I look, people are you answer saying, data are left form XP or an earlier version of windows Installation. This may not be the case for me!
    • I tried Windows 7 RC on my laptop. (It has now disappeared)
Once more, I really appreciate your help!

  • T400 Windows 7 or Vista clean install - cannot detect hard drive

I tried to install Windows Vista x 64 and Windows 7 x 64 using copies of two OS on my T400 retail. No operating system can find the hard disk during the installation process. I downloaded all the possible drivers of Lenovo and load them via USB for installation, with absolutely no luck. I installed Ubuntu until we have a usable computer, but I really need Win7 there, so I understand that. All solutions? (and tell me to go download the driver isn't going to help me). Also, I have messed around with the setting AHCI in the BIOS, but that did not help either.

I thought about it. For some reason, I had to delete all partitions on the disk and create a single NTFS partition (using gParted), and then he appeared. I had not yet install a driver during Setup (BIOS was set to the compatibility mode).

I've never seen this before on the wide variety of machines to dual boot, I've built in the past. Well well, at least its working now.
