Secondary hard drive for M58e

I really like the Lenovo computers, the M58e that I just bought (two, actually) doesn't have a provision for adding a secondary hard drive. The hardware Maintenance Manual shows a cage on the bottom of the case, but that is not. The manual, as far as I could tell, has failed a number of similar cage.

It is hard to believe that Lenovo would be a tower that does not have the ability to easily add a second hard drive. What is the solution? Drill holes in the bottom of the case? Incredible.

Support is provided with certain models, but not others. This is really unfortunate. I drilled four holes in the bottom of the case and the bottom mounted drive, very near where it would have been if the support was present.

  • Adding 3rd hard drive for HP Pavilion Elite m9250f

I have a Pavilion Elite m9250f running Windows Vista Home 64 bit. The computer currently has two 500 GB hard drives for a total capacity of 1 TB. I would like to add a third drive to increase storage capacity.  I have a SATA to 2 to and cables. When I tried to install the new drive above the two existing disks, he did not slide smoothly. When I removed the already highest reader, I could slide the new drive into but the screws are not line up properly with the new drive. This leads me to believe that I can not install a third drive in the Bay. Is this a correct assumption?

I have an available expansion Bay below the optical drive but am not sure that it is usable for a hard drive. If the use of the expansion Bay is possible, do I have to buy a hook or how to mount the drive in this space?

If necessary, I can copy the data from the secondary drive on an external drive and replace it with the new drive. However, I need confirmation that the secondary is the player in the foreground of both in the hard disc enclosure.

    Thank you for your help.

If the task under the existing optical Bay is open, just use an adapter to fill the space and to mount the drive in there.  Make sure of course that there is a power cord and a SATA port.

  • Secondary hard drive receives the drive letter assigned to the start-up

I have recently formatted my secondary hard drive, which had been sitting in my empty PC and do nothing for a while, to function as a music folder. The problem I have is that every time you start that I have to manually assign the drive letter, Windows does not automatically. I tried to reformat the hard disk, but it does not solve the problem. In addition, by train to perform a bugcheck gives an error indicating the check cannot be completed. Personally, I have no idea how to solve this problem, and I have not found anyone with the same issue.

    Hi Revolvist,

There is a possibility that the second hard disk is defective or damaged.

If the second hard disk is a separate hard drive, I suggest you disconnect the drive from the computer (if possible) and connect to another computer and check if the problem persists.

  • secondary hard drives

I have a HP Pavilion dv7-4285dx Entertainment PC the motherboard is faulty. I also have a HP Envy TouchSmart m7-j020dx. I would take the drive hard the dv7 and install it as a secondary drive in the m7 want to recover the files & pix of the dv7 drive. Is it possible or ask for trouble. Two of these computers are running Windows 8.

    Thank you

Request not wrong but install the dv7 drive in the M7 to a cart and an adapter that costs about $30:

    http://www.newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?Main_Page=product_info&cPath=2_5&products_id=542

You can get an external usb to SATA Adapter for quite a bit less than. Either Setup will allow you to retrieve files from the disk hard dv7. You can have the second hard drive for the M7 in capacity, and if so it's money well spent.

  • Windows 7 loses the secondary hard drive

This has been a problem, I don't know why I waited this long to ask about it.

My secondary hard drive keep endangered of Windows 7, as if someone unplugged spontaneously, except that it's still there.

This problem can be resolved by restarting just the computer, and it can remain correct for a few minutes, a few hoursor a few days, but it still exists, usually several times a week.

I checked all connections and even swapped the cables. There is nothing wrong with the drive itself, I can put it in another computer without this problem occurring. I also tried to move to an another empty SATA connection on the motherboard without success.

I do not use the drive on a regular basis and bought only so that the steam and the game files that are, (and now the original since I finally broke down and got Mass Effect 3 despite efforts to avoid EA "me too!" steam clone.) were not cluttering up my main hard drive.

But when I decide to take a load off and play games, I like for the reader to be there without needing a reboot, it can so be a little frustrating because it's usually when I am stressed already :)

Thanks in advance for any help offered.

    Hello

Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community Forum.

    Disks RAID configured hard two?

Internal hard disks connect to the motherboard of your computer using an IDE or SATA interface interface. Most new hard drives come with an IDE or SATA connection cable, depending on the type of drive.

Install an internal hard disk takes a bit more work, especially if you plan to make the new disk your primary hard disk where you install Windows. Drive hard internal jumpers that you set to configure the main hard drive (master) disk where you install Windows or a secondary (slave) drive where you store programs and files. For the diagnosis of your problem, I suggest trying the following methods and check if the number is reproduced.

    Method 1:

Check if you are able to view the second hard disk (HDD) in Device Manager. If so, try to change drive letter assignments in Windows 7. See the following steps:

    (a) connect to the computer as an administrator.

    (b) click Start, right-click computerand then click Manage.

    (c) click on disk management.

    (d) right click on the volume of the secondary HDD that you want to change and then click change drive letter and paths.

    (e) double click on the secondary drive, click change, click the drive letter that you want to use and then click OK.

    Additional information:
Change, add, or remove a drive letter
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/change-add-or-remove-a-drive-letter

If method 1 does not resolve the problem, go to method 2.

    Method 2:

I suggest you try to check the secondary hard drive to find errors.

    Consult the following link:

Check your hard drive to find errors in Windows 7

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/2641432/en-us

Warning: Running chkdsk on the drive if bad sectors are found on the disk hard when chkdsk attempts to repair this area if all available on which data can be lost.

If method 2 does not work, go to method 3.

    Method 3:

Try to run a scan of the file system (CFS) auditor to check any file corruption:

    1. Go to Start, click all programs and open the Accessories.
    2. Right-click on command prompt in the list programs, and then select run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, click OK, or alternatively click on Yes.
    3. In the command prompt, type the following command and press ENTER:
      sfc/scannow

  • Can I format my secondary hard drive on another PC?

I understand that you format a secondary hard drive before using this, but what happens if I format it in another computer and place it in another computer? Format on a computer and you can use it in all that are supported by the type of file system.  Use NTFS for windows computers.

  • Add the secondary hard drive to dv7-3130eo

Anyone know if it is possible to use the secondary hard drive Bay on the above model.

I searched and could not know whether or not it is supported. If it supports this what should I use to add an sdd drive

Yes, it can be used. You just need the hard drive caddy and the connector like the one that is in the hard drive Bay. They are available online or on eBay for maybe $45.

    example of

Yes, the hard drive can be an ssd. SSD drives have the same physical dimensions and connections such as a SATA drive. You need the money because I just don't see prices of SSDS come down to where I think it makes sense to invest in one. I ran an ssd in my last laptop... paid about $400 for a concert 128 2 years ago and I don't think they are much cheaper now, although they are better I guess. It was all that (fast, quiet, cool), but it was nagging little glitches on writing on the disc and occasionally she just sat there for a few seconds and think about doing something. I changed a standard 7200 RPM drive.

Can someone tell me what is the part number for a replacement hard drive for Portege P2010 is? It has the latest version of the BIOS installed, if the capacity of the HARD disk can be greater than the original 30gig?

    Hello Martin

Unfortunately I was found no specific information. If I'm right, this unit needs 1.9 HDD and I think it can be much more expensive as 2.5 standard.

Check it please this page http://www.laptopbits.co.uk/Database_files/Toshiba_Portege_2000_and_2010_series_spares.htm
You will find a few pieces of upgrade for your device.

  • Compatible hard drives for Portege 3480CT

    Hello

I have a Portege 3480CT and I need to replace its 12 GB (IBM & reg Travelstar) drive hard internal since the former on a developed bad blocks. Now, I assumed that it would be relatively simple, but I was wrong.

In any case, I got a replacement 2.5 "HD (this time a Hitachi Travelstar, 20 GB drive), but I couldn't make it work. I ran the program from IBM/Hitachi diagnosis and while the old 12 GB HDD is detected and removed ok, the 20 GB does not even get detected (i.e., seems that nothing is on the line of the IDE).

It was suggested to me by IBM and Hitachi that there is a list of compatibility to their hard drives, and may not be supported (http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/compatibility.htm), but I could not find my disc on their list (model is HTS424020M9AT00). Basically, what I want to know is what drives * are * compatible or what my problem with the laptop is otherwise.

For more info, when I try to install Win2k, I get an ArcRead failure, probably because he thinks that the drive does not exist.

    Thank you.
    Stuart

    Hello

I guess that there is problem with drive HARD and false parameter who decide if the HARD drive is the master or slave.

In my opinion you should contact the Service partner to ask them which HDD is suitable for your device. You can also check on the net and picking up some information because there are a lot of different suppliers where you can buy the HARD drive. I also found information that it is possible to use the 40 GB HARD drive for your unit, but it must be built in by seller.

  • Satellite A105-S4074 - which HARD drive for upgrade?

I want to replace the Toshiba MK1234GSX (120 GB, 5400 RPM, SATA-150, 8 MB cache) hard drive on my A105-S4074 laptop with a bigger. My question is whether it is good to buy a Toshiba HDD no.

Available on direct to my computer Toshiba laptop is only the following HARD disk:
    HDDR320I02X
Toshiba 320 GB 2.5 "5400 RPM internal notebook hard drive - SATA"
    Capacity: 320 GB
    Interface: Serial ATA 150
    Speed: 5400 RPM
    Buffer size: 8 MB

I wonder if such a 320 GB or 500 GB WD HARD or Momentus drive will work very well, for example
-Western Digital 320 GB / 500 GB Scorpio blue SATAII 5400 RPM 2.5 IN. 8 MB in bulk / OEM hard drive (WD3200BEVT/WD5000BEVT
    -Seagate Momentus 5400.6 320/500 GB 5400 RPM / MIN SATA 3 GB/s 8 MB Cache 2.5 inch internal NB Hard Drive (ST9320325AS/ST9320325AS)

Also, is it wise purchase a 7200 RPM HARD drive for this laptop? Would this work?

    Thank you

    Hello

First on interface SATA there is no capacity limit. This means that you can buy each HARD drive with SATA interface and it should work fine.

It is also irrelevant if you buy a Toshiba, Western Digital, etc. There is not much difference between the models. It of your choice what you buy! ;)

Theoretically, 7200 RPM HARD drive should work but don t forget that they produce more heat and need more battery power. 5400 RPM should be sufficient for most applications.

    Good bye
