Security Center doesn't recognizize Avast 5.0 AV

Hello

I'm using Vista Home Premium 64 SP2.
I am also long-term user of Avast AV, for Win98SE and W2k.

After I updated Avast 4.8 to 5.0 a few months ago.
Vista Security Center has ceased to recognize Avast installed AV solution.

What is best to fix this? (Avast is supported AV solution)

It was not necessary, the solution on the work of the Avast forum.
I hesitated just to reinstall Avast causes such a detail.

Possible solutions to the Avast forum

Command prompt 3) right-click and run as administrator.
Type the following command: winmgmt /verifyrepository
If the system returns "referential WMI is not consistent", run this command: winmgmt /salvagerepository
The first time you run this operation fails.

Worked for someone, not for me - my WMI rest. was OK

(1) as an administrator
Stop winmgmt + Center security services
Rename/Delete the storage folder (\windows\system32\wbem\repository
Keep the services must be started automatically
reset.

Worked for someone, not for me - no effect

(3) this one worked for me.

Clean reinstallation of avast.

Download the avast! Uninstall utility
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-uninstall-utility.html
and save it to your HARD drive, so you can find it later.

Download the latest version of avast http://www.avast.com/eng/programs.html and save it to your HARD drive.

Now uninstall Avast
reboot (some said to save mode by F8)
Run the uninstall utility
reset
install the latest version avast
reset

  • What is the Windows Security Center and is compatible with Avast antivirus Protection?

I installed a paid for version of Avast on my Windows XP computer. (I won't be upgrading to a more modern version of Windows.)

I also called Windows Security Center.

Is the Windows Security Center virus protection, or is it simply a place to control and discover whatever you have antivirus protection?

If it is a virus protection, it would hurt Avast and if so can I uninstall it?

If I removed Avast and didn't have Windows Security Center, I should any type of protection against viruses on my computer?

The only type of protection against viruses in addition to Avast, I am sure that I have on my computer is Windows Firewall. I turned that off and am now strictly protected by the firewall of Avast. Windows Security Center notifies me of cannot have two firewalls upwards at the same time.

If Windows Security Center antivirus protection it would do no harm to leave it on if the firewall is disabled and Avast is installed? Part of Windows Firewall Security Center Windows or another program?

    Guesses are welcome. Thank you.

    Hey there Clinton!

I've identified two questions here, your normal text questions and my answers in bold:

Is the Windows Security Center virus protection, or is it simply a place to control and discover whatever you have antivirus protection?

Windows Security Center is not a virus protection it's just simply a place to control and view the status of the installation of malware * protection software, but also the firewall on your computer.

Part of Windows Firewall Security Center Windows or another program?

Windows Firewall is a separate component.

Does Avast! Damaged, if I have another antivirus running program?

It is not clear what might happen, but software may conflict with each other and may not work as expected.

I hope that I have answered all your questions!
    Sincerely,
    -Alex

System resources, such as file of data, even in the data memory and registry data, can develop inconsistencies during the lifecycle of the operating system.

These contradictions may be caused by various hardware failures or can be caused by software problems.

In some cases, these inconsistencies can affect the Windows Service store, and they can cause software updates not do not work.

The system update tool attempts to resolve these inconsistencies.

After you download the system update tool, it runs a unique analysis of inconsistencies that might prevent future maintenance operations.

This analysis usually takes less than 15 minutes to run.

However, the tool might take significantly longer on some computers.

The Windows Update progress bar is not updated during the analysis and progress seems to stop at 60% complete for some time.

MY COMPUTER IS NOT PROTECTED WHY.  SECURITY CENTER ME SAID OF ANTIVIRUS PROTECTION IS DISABLED

Many of these programs require annual fees to continue working, so if you have a message to this effect and is not paid, it would be a possible way, that this could happen. Of course, another possibility is that your computer could be infected with a virus. Whatever the cause, it is imperative that you have a working of antivirus running software version. There are several free there, against MS, called Microsoft Security Essentials. Two more are AVG and Avast. Don't forget that before installing any new anti-virus program you need to uninstall any other person because more than one on a PC will cause problems.

  • Security Center does not recognize installed AntiVirus software

I tried to update my Roxio Roxio 2009 2007 but I have an error message and so I removed the installation 2009 and re-installed my 2007 edition.

When I removed Roxio 2009 I was correctly or incorrectly advised to remove all references to the "Roxio" in the registry.

I put "Roxio" in the box search of Regedit and deleted all references to Roxio then maybe that is what caused my problem.

In addition to this, I have only 1 point of restoration and it is after I re-installed Roxio 2007 after using the cleaning and the points of additional backup option.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you

What a fool one program is Roxio for not being able to uninstall their own stuff more graciously.  I read their directions.

What is your system brand and model?

What is your Version of XP and the Service Pack?

Describe your current antivirus and software anti malware situation: McAfee, Norton, Spybot, AVG, Avira!, Defender, ZoneAlarm, PC Tools, MSE, Comodo, etc..

If you have used the XP cleaning and told to delete everything except your last restore Point, she did what you say, which leaves you with a RP.  What do you think thre certain shortcomings here?  It seems that it works perfectly.

There might still some AV programs that XP doesn't recognize not and are there is a difference between antivirus and software malware removal tools.  If you are 100% sure you have something useful installed and XP does not detect it as an AV program and complain about this, you can tell XP not not to warn you of this condition.

To do this, click Start, settings, Control Panel, Security Center, and then click the link that reads:

Change the way security centers alerts me

Things together the way you want to and you will not be disturbed by these messages again.  The risk is, you are disabling/undo built in the protection mechanism.  I have nothing of any AV software (on purpose - I look forward to infections), so I have my disabled notification but maybe this isn't a good idea for everyone.

Some malicious programs, analysis of the programs (such as MBAM) will report this setting (unless there is an infection) and offer to fix it for you because he thinks it might be an affliction.

When you have the time, I recommend that do you this too:

Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware detection programs:

    Malwarebytes (MMFA): http://malwarebytes.org/
    SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/

They can be uninstalled later if you wish.

The scans by operating clean, then to solve any problems.

Do not guess what the problem might be - understand and resolve it. I need YOUR voice and the points for helpful answers and propose responses. I'm saving for a pony!

AVG has been known to disable the Security Center.

AVG 8.x and 9.x even caused a lot of problems. If you decide to remove it using their removal tool
and download, but not install any replacement before you run it.

Download - SAVE - go to where you put (all) - click right on - RUN AS ADMIN - REBOOT when each
is made and before the following.

Avast and Prevx proved extremely reliable and compatible with everything I threw at them.
Microsoft Security Essentials and Prevx have also proven very reliable and compatible.

Avast Home free - stop any shields is not necessary except away from Standard, Web and network is working.

    Prevx - Home - free

    Windows Firewall

Windows Defender (is not necessary if you use MSE)

    Protected IE - mode

IE 8 - SmartScreen filter WE (IE 7 phishing filter)

I also IE always start with asset if filter InPrivate IE 8.
(Sometimes you have to temporarily turn off with the little icon to the left of the + bottom right of IE)

Avast - stop home - free - all shields you do no need except leave Standard, Web and network running.
(Double-click the blue icon - details look OK. - upper left Shields - those that you do not cancel).
    http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Or use Microsoft Security Essentials - free
    http://www.Microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/

Prevx works well alongside MSE or Avast

Prevx - Home - small, fast, exceptional CLOUD free protection, working with other security programs. It comes
a scan only, VERY EFFICIENT, if it finds something to come back here or use Google to see how to remove.

    PCmag - Prevx - Editor's choice

Also get Malwarebytes - free - use as scanner only. If you ever suspect malware, and that would be unusual with
Avast and Prevx running except a low occasional (not much), updated cookie and then run it as
a scanner. I have a lot of scanners and they never find anything of note that I started to use this configuration.

  • cant get anti virus program to turn it on in the windows Security Center

I have windows vista and an alert pops up, saying: my antivirus program is disabled. I opened Security Center says AVG anti virus reports that it is turned off. I clicked on the button, and it didn't turn it on. another box pops up asking if I trust this program click Yes, I have confidence in it. Yet once, nothing happens.  any suggestions on something that I could try.

Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. Windows regularly checks if an antivirus program is installed on your computer, that they are running, and that it is up-to-date. The status of your antivirus program is displayed in Windows Security Center. However, Windows doesn't detect all antivirus programs, and some antivirus programs report their status to Windows.

If you receive notifications related to security on your virus protection software, but you know that your antivirus software is installed and updated, you can follow the steps below to stop receiving these notifications. You should do this only if you are unsure that you have a full, the up-to-date antivirus program installed on your computer and that real-time scanning, which checks every file before it is opened or used, is turned on.

To specify that you are using an antivirus program that Windows does not find

    1. Open Security Center.

    2. Click on protection against malware, and then, under virus protection, click on show me my available options.

    3. In the Windows Security Center dialog box, click on I have an antivirus program that I will control myself.  If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Security Center displays your antivirus settings as not monitored, and you will not receive more notifications about your virus protection software.

    Note

    • The show me my link options is not available when the Virus protection setting is marked on.

  • Windows Security Center is missing...

I have tried turning Windows Firewall on my Vista laptop and an alert pops up saying, "Due to a problem not identified, Windows cannot display Windows Firewall settings." Also in the Firewall menu, it says "Windows Firewall does not use recommended settings to help protect your computer". I clicked Update settings now that led to the alert "firewall Windows was unable to make the requested updates." I went to Windows Update and tried to turn on automatically find and install the updates did not work (don't remember what was now the error message). I downloaded a Microsoft Fixit Troubleshooter to try to fix the problem. Well, the problem appeared to be fixed, but when I went to install the updates that he found, all updates could not be installed. The error code was 80246008. I clicked on to get help with this errorand advises him to change the settings on the BITS service. Well, imagine my surprise when I found the BITS and Windows Security Center is missing in the registry of services.

I am so at a loss to know what to do now. Recently, I did a complete with Malwarebytes and Avast scan and a scan of boot with the latter. Malwarebytes didn't find anything, and I found and quarantined a bunch of virus with Avast. I have not noticed other symptoms (that I recognized, in any case). I hope there is a way to solve this problem without having to reinstall the entire operating system or anything. They gave me this computer, so I don't have the installation CD.

  • Cannot depend on a Security Center

Original title Security Center: windows vista Home premium
I use an hp pavilion slimline with pre-installed vista home premium. I recently installed Avast free Anti-virus, I do love then I uninstalled and went back to my Microsoft security essentials. Ever since my Security Center was cut off and I can't turn it back on. I went to services and applications, and set in motion all the dependencies necessary to run the Security Center, but have had no luck on again. I scanned my pc for viruses with spybot, super anti-spyware, malwarebytes, and mse. The computer comes back clean. I even used Kaspersky tdss killer and who has also been addressed without problems on my pc. Is there a way to turn Security Center again? I created a restore point before installing Avast. I used this restore point to try to solve the problem and I had no luck in fixing the problem. I have to do a system restore back to factory settings complete?

I tried the fix from microsoft and he says there is no anti-virus installed. I use microsoft security databases, and it seems to work very well. Your other suggestion did not help me either. Thanks for your time anyway.
