• How is the character limit 256 on the applied file names?

  I understand that a file name can be up to 256 characters.

  It seems that the 256 characters includes the total number of characters that make up the complete chain of the folder associated with the file names.  Is that why when I get to the folder (for example) fifteenth in the folder tree that I have run out of characters, even if the name of the file, I'm trying to create has only about 20 characters in there?

  If this is the case, is it possible to adjust the number of allowed characters?

  If this is not the case why is my system not allowing me to use more than (for example) 20 characters when I am in a long series of files?

  256 character limit applies as well the full path. So, if you have a long series of records, it does not accept the name of the file.  You will need to either move the files to shorten the path, or rename the folders to shorten the chain for the path name.

• Accounts-character limit

  Can someone advise what is the character limit for accounts?

  I noticed that the documentation mentions this is 30, but when you check the area under views it shows 80 and we can add an account liked 30.

  If the field has been changed to 80 are here all other conflicts he might encounter if I go beyond the limit of 30? or they simply updated the doco.

  Hi Nick,

  Yes, the account name may be longer than 30 characters in 11.1.1.6. The 30 character limit was the limit old 10g but has been extended to 80 characters.

  This limit is set in the database tables and can go to 80 characters in 11.1.1.6.0.

  SQL > describe documentaccounts;

  Type VARCHAR2 (80)

  80 characters by default and is related to the limit of the OS because the account name is used as part of the file name.

  Documentation has not updated this information to newer versions.

• Character limit to the custom calculation Script?

  Hello. I have a document that has a text form field. I want to run a custom calculation script which basically says if field 'Number group' = xxxxxxx, so the 'Group name' field should = ABC company.

  I have a list of almost 575 group numbers and names that I need to put in the script. And I have the script works fine, but I'm guessing that there is a limit of characters for the field script? It doesn't let me put my complete list in there.

  Any suggestions on how to work around this problem?

  Yes, there is a character limit for internal JS Editor. The round it is to use an external, such as Notepad.

  Do go to Edit - Preferences - JavaScript and select "Use the external JavaScript editor" and then select the application you want to use.

  Don't forget, however, that you must close the external file each time that change you it if you want to update in the PDF file.

  I have a page with a form that includes a paragraph text box. I'm capturing the response in the contact record. But I get only 100 characters of the answer. Is there a way to increase this limit to be able to enter complete answers in the contact record and see the entire response when running reports exported to Excel?

  Hi Kim,

  You can add one of the custom fields and change the Type of data to Large text field.  It is under the settings fields > section advanced settings, you will see the drop down to change it.

  Hi Brian, yes there is a limit of only 100 characters. Your e-mail name should not exceed more than 100 characters.

  I use SCORM 1.2, which imposes a limit of 255 characters for the text input, however, I can't find a way to limit the entry of text box for the quiz/short answer, which means that the people of entry much more of 255 characters and submit their responses, but unbeknownst to them, the answer is off.

  You can limit the number of characters entered in a text entry area.  The maximum number of characters that will now be accepted by a BER 9 Captivate is 150 characters.  But you can set the number being less than that.

  You can certainly include an area for text input in a quiz, but it's usually only when you set the Validation option on WE so that the text of the learner is assessed to see if it matched to a correct answer.  In your case it is not necessary for a correct answer if you want just your comments.  If you do not set a Validation we then report to the Quiz option is gray.

  Developers wishing to receive feedback courses accepted by the LMS often use the value short answer question survey instead of rated.  It seems that some LMS then saves the text entered.

  If it's somewhat a catch-22.  I still believe that your best option is to simply tell users NOT to go more than a few sentences of comments.

  I came across a comment on another Web site to the effect that the method overall prompt() will crash PhotoShop if the user types more than 255 characters in the text field. • Default character limit in the text entry boxes?

  It seems that text is limited to 15 characters in TEBs, even if no maximum length is specified (in 'other options'). Why is this the case? Is this a known bug, or just a very stupid choice by developers Captivate?

  You're blaming the wrong people. TEBs are NOT limited to 15 characters.  More like 250 or more.

  Can you be more specific on where you see this limit of 15 characters highlighted?

  Are you sure that you see not only 15 characters when you insert the TEB variable in a text box or something?  Perhaps insert a variable to display just to add dollar signs to the ends of the name of the variable instead of using the Insert Variable dialog box?  If so, that would explain your limit of 15 characters.  Insertion of variables this way does not have the option to set the display variable duration.  This is why you should always use the dialog box.

  Hello. I have an input textfield that is say 100 px width. Is it possible to limit the number of characters so that they fit in the field. I don't want to use maxChars since I want to use the end of the whole field different characters has different width.

  You can use the TextFormat.GetTextExtent method to get the width of a string given for certain a textformat. Compare that with the textfield width and disable the entry if it reaches the limit.

  When you use «File browse...» "to download the documents, is there a limit to the number of characters in the filename (including C:\My my Documents\...)? If so, what is the limit?

  We can see the details of the file uploaded by querying as follows in the workshop of the APEX SQL

  Here you can see two columns NAME and FILE name so that there could be some constraints on these lengths of columns.
