    Reload the temporary update files

    =================================

A possible cause is that the temporary folder of Windows Update contains corrupted files. This step will clean up its "Download", which contains the updated Windows Update downloaded installation files. After you rename this folder, all the files will be automatically recreated, except the history of Windows Update and downloaded data updates installation files. This will have no negative effect on the performance of your computer.

    1. click on 'Start', 'Run', type: 'Cmd' (without the quotes) and press "enter." In the command window, type "net stop WuAuServ" (without the quotes) and press "Enter."

    2. click on 'Start', 'Run', type: '%windir%' (without the quotes) and press "Enter."

    3. right click on the folder C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution and choose 'Rename', type SDOLD as the new name.

    4. click on 'Start', 'Run', type: 'Cmd' (without the quotes) and press "enter." In the command window, type "net start WuAuServ" (without the quotes) and press "Enter."

Note: This folder will be created automatically after the automatic updates service starts. Historical Windows Update only will be lost. To check the update is needed, I suggest that we check the updates on the Update Web site.

Now try to update to see if the problem has been resolved. Please let us know if this step has resolved. If this is not the case, proceed to the next step.

If you do not disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network at the time the anti-virus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Method 2: Put the computer in a clean boot state to see if there is a software conflict as the clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

    (a) click Start, run.

    (b) type msconfigand click OK.

    (c) the System Configuration Utility dialog box appears.

    (d) click the general tab, click Normal startup - load all services and device drivers and then click OK.

  • Updates to security for Windows XP KB2685939, KB2709162 and KB2707511 do not settle

June 12, 2012, a group of 8 high priority updates were presented for installation.  Four installed, but four others repeatedly failed to install. Two of them, then repeatedly appear under the icon "Automatic updates" in the taskbar.  When the "Express" or "Custom" install is selected, my machine restarts immediately, but fails again to install updates.  Lost a full day to use my system chasing this problem so far.  Can you advise how to get the updates to install correctly?

    (1) security Update for Windows XP (KB2707511) - download fails.

    (2) cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 8 for Windows XP (KB2699988) - appears to download, but the installation fails.
    (3) security Update for Windows XP (KB2709162) - download fails.
    (4) security Update for Windows XP (KB2685939) - appears to download, but the installation fails.

Each returns the same error 0x8007F0DA

I used the Microsoft Fix It tool twice and it did not affect the result.

Window XP Home Edition SP3, Build 2600 OS; IT IE 8.0.6001.18702. Wired internet.

The Fix - It tool crashed my system.  The link of http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822798 did nothing to improve the problem and may have made it worse, because the Catroot2 directory that was renamed can be restored as Catroot2 again.  No instructions for this that I could find.  Try to do it myself generates a Protection Fault When you rename.  This new backup directory has a lot of files it contains, that newly created, almost nothing.

The many steps in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/958050 link also has not solved the problem.  After several restarts and system breaks down, the only thing that has changed is the error Code: 0 x 80070002 (now).

When we look at upwards of this error on the KB code, the call for a tool download instructions to check the system, but it is not applicable for Win XP SP3.  Following two no this solution eliminates the top 2/3 of the web page when you try to copy the instructions to paste in Notepad.

It seems to me there are different vintages of tool Fix - It that are presented, each one a little different in look and performance.  Not just another module, but results reports and accidents vary with the version.

A consistent Fit-It idea returns 'default Windows data update locations have changed"and"Repair Windows Update sites default"displays as"Not executed", but there is no way to perform this element.  Don't know if it's really a place has changed, I know that I did it and how long and including June 12, all except 4 updates installed correctly.

  • cannot install update security for Windows XP (KB2686509)

cannot install update security for Windows XP (KB2686509)

    Hello, gsfl Jg,

Open Windows Update and check if KB2686509 and KB2676562 are or are not installed.

When you tried to install the update, you would have received an error code.  Please return this zip code which lies in Windows Update.

Why this update is offered again several times?

Windows updates are revived until the update is installed on your computer. If this update is already, perhaps an installation failure has occurred. Check log files to install KB for the error codes. For example, the log file of installation KB for this security update would probably "C:\Windows\ KB2686509.log"
For more information about how to resolve these problems, click on the number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

958051 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/958051/) you receive a "0x8007F0F4" error code when you try to install the updates on the Windows Update Web site or the Microsoft Update Web site

What should I do if the installation of this update fails with the error "0x8007F0F4"?

If you receive the "0x8007F0F4" error when you try to install this security update, follow these steps:

    1. Open the Faultykeyboard.log file that is located in the folder %windir%. This log file contains information about the registered keyboard layout files that are not in the folder % Windir%\System32. The log file will resemble the following:

      Keyboard1.dll.\Layoutfiles\keyboard2.dll C:\Windows\System\Kbda1.dll

Note In this example, the first entry is just a file name. The second entry includes a relative path with the name of the file. The third category includes a full path of the file.

    2. Copy the files that are listed in the Faultykeyboard.log log file in the System32 folder.

Note Contact Microsoft technical support if you can't find the Faultykeyboard.log file.
