Separate the Server vCenter for VDI environment?

Should I install a separate to a new environment of view 4.5 VDI vCenter Server?

See 4.5 can potentially reach about 3,000 users, although he will start with a pilot and after that start to add users probably a hundred at a time.

Is our current environment vmware vCenter 4.0 Update 2, although I am considering upgrading to 4.1

We currently have a small VMware environment with around 30 guests and about 400 virtual machines

I was thinkng it would be good to have vCenter for our VDI environment running in a cluster in our existing vCenter environment.

It would be wise to tie our vCenters if we do not have two?

Any ideas on that?

Has anyone has expereince with this size VDI environment?

Thank you!!

Tom

I prefer to run a separate instance of vCenter. Our deployment is much smaller than yours, and we run it separate because it isolates environments, allows to plan maintenance and does not affect the two environments, because VMware has fallen behind manufacturing discovers completely compatible with the latest versions of vSphere in the past (e.g. vSphere 4.1 requires 64-bit Windows when composer would not run under 64-bit.)

Especially in an environment as large as yours, I it would run separately.

I'm in vCenter Server and this is the SQL database on separate virtual machines.  I have size my SQL database for level 2 of the statistics.  What is the size of the disk hard virtual on my server vCenter Server must support statistics level 2 to 3000 VMs and 150 physical servers?  I know that the main impact of the size of the disk is SQL Server according to the requirements not vCenter to because the VCDB database is stored on my SQL Server in this case.  However, if a major impact is to increase your level of 1 to 2 on virtual disks of vCenter Server statistics? (I have already addressed vCPU and needs of vRAM and prepared for this, I just need to look at the disk space now)

    Thank you!

You're right, the size of the database will be the primary component that is affected when you increase the level of statistics. I don't see any impact on the vCenter Server disks.

  • Unable to connect to the server vCenter because the user name or password not valid

    Hello

I have a VMware View version 5.1.0 installation (704644) and when I try to add additional virtual machines to an existing pool I get the message (cannot connect to the server vCenter because the username or password are invalid).

I have checked all the instructions below and still failed to add virtual machines

If you are unable to connect to vCenter Server:

    1. Confirm that a network port exists and is available. For more information, see increase the number of ports assigned to a virtual switch for VMware View (1026014).

    2. Confirm services VMware View manager are running. For more information, see check which required VMware View Manager services are running (1026136).

  • Reinstall the server vCenter Server on x 64 Windows

    Hello

I reinstall a vCenter Server on the same hardware, because the operating system is Windows 2008 x 86 at the moment and I want to spend to vCenter 4.1.

I don't want to migrate databases, because it is only a very simple configuration with two hosts in a Cluster of CVS.

I frist to remove the existing vCenter hosts or can I just add them to the new installation of vCenter? I ask, because I can't delete the hosts in the Cluster without putting them into maintenance mode.

    Thanks for your help.

    Rodix

You can remove hosts to a vcenter which is part of a cluster.

I had exactly this scenario last week.

Everything I did was right click hosts each, once disconnected you can right click again and select Delete.

This will not affect the virtual machines on the hosts and can be done while online, make sure that there is no current vMotions when you do this.

Reload the VirtualCenter with the new OS and vCenter. Click Add a host and do the normal procedure.

In fact it is really unnecessary to disconnect the old vcenter for import into new, because when you add the host it will tell you it is managed by a different vCenter, but you can import it again. I just did it to make sure (in my head :-))

Tip is to make a copy of the license key from vcenter for you save the trouble to go online and get back again

  • Virtualize the Server vCenter

I can't find documentation of configuration for the server vCenter 4.0 of virtualization.  I have vCenter installed on a physical server now and you want to use the inverter or P2V tool.  I have a new deployment next too and want to know the steps to create the server vCenter virtual from scratch.  There are no official document?

You should read chapters 10-13 of the Setup Guide:

    http://www.VMware.com/PDF/vSphere4/R40/vsp_40_esx_vc_installation_guide.PDF

    It's all there.

It'll be faster and easier to perform a new installation in a virtual machine rather than P2Ving the existing physical server.

  • VSphere Web Client cannot connect to the server vCenter Single Sign On.

I'm running the virtual appliance of the trial 5.5.0.20400 build 2442330 on ESXi 5.5.0, 2068190

While I try to log on to the Web Client, I get this error.  VSphere Web Client cannot connect to the server vCenter Single Sign On.

I put fallow the steps to disable SSO by changing the webclient.properties line add file and ad sso.enabled = false .    Then on the vCenter Server Appliance, restart the vSphere client service by typing service vsphere-client restart .

    I enclose the reference files.

    All ideas will be useful

This answer was simple, all I had to do was remove the # in front of the statement in the file.   and SSO has been disabled after the restart of the service.

  • What is the best practice for a 'regular' Server VMware and VDI environment?

What is the best practice for a "regular" VMware Server and VDI environment?   A single environment (ESXi and SAN) can accommodate two if it is a whole new configuration?  Or even better to keep separate?

    Enjoying inputs.

Quick and dirty answer is that "it depends."

serioulsy, it depends really two things budget and IO.  If you had the money for two without then buy two and don't have to host your server environment and the other for VDI desktop, their IO profiles are completely different.

If this is not the case, try to keep each type of use for their own dedicated LUN.

  • How update you the server vCenter Server?

I have a virtual machine in my vSphere environment running Windows Server 2008 R2 that has update manager installed on it and my vCenter Server installation.  After scanning it with the Update Manager, it showed it needed to upgrade VMware tools to match the host and also to modernize hardware virtual machine to correspond also to the host.  I've improved the tools successfully, but when I tried to restore the VM for the hardware, I got the following error message:

"VM [VM name] has vSphere VMware Update Manager or VMware vCenter Server is installed.  This virtual machine will be ignored for the scan and sanitation. »

So, how can I get around this because I use this machine virtual also patch/update the other hosts/VMs and this is my installation vCenter?

Yes, it must be turned off. So your only option in this case is to connect to the host, Vcenter, and then right click to upgrade.  Unfortunately, this is your only option

  • Access to the server vCenter Server security policy

    Scenario:

Users must have different levels of access to virtual machines.  Some need only to be able to turn it on, restart and shut down the virtual machines.  Some need taking pictures, power on, power off, then restart.

Others must be able to do anything.

There is an existing Active Directory server.

We do not want to overwhelm vCenter server with too many concurrent connections.  More than 3000 users must turn on and off the virtual machines and take snapshots.

Less than 50 administrators full privileges in vCenter Server.

We must use AD when it is possible to set up groups of users who have different privileges.

What are the strategies to achieve this?  We should create a 'leap VMs' set in an area of special security for those who need access to vCenter Server to power on virtual machines and take pictures?

What security products facilitate such scenarios?

Subsequently vcloud or Automation Center vCenter vCenter Operations Manager will be used.  The solution must be able to integrate all the products of VMware management as opposed to replacing them.

    Thanks for your comments.

    Hello

Actually, you are not generically allow access to a virtual machine, a console instead, if you allow access to a virtual machine that you want to monitor access very closely because it (other than RDP) console through the virtualization management services (ala vCenter). I would use tools such as HyTrust, Xceedium, Thycotic, etc. for monitor/audit access. Personally, I'm just saying my system administrators use RDP as it does not pass through the layers of virtualization management. If they need access CD for example, I provide other ways to access the ISOs of a common share (VCD, loop media) instead of asking someone to use vCenter.

A poor man to get the same functionality is to create a proxy service that connects to all requests for access to the consoles and serves as additional security gateway in the virtualization management devices (ala vCenter). This way a request to go directly to the virtual console is properly logged and you can use this same proxy to make queries to Mount/unmount images, etc. By using a proxy, hytrust, Xceedium or Thycotic you can let him manage the 3000 user requests, limit the number of connections allowed at any time (which is a must), set timeouts, but especially you can delegate all through a service inside of vCenter account so that you can get the best control of your environment. Logging, these tools provide is enough to meet verification requirements.

However, the best suggestion is to enable all simply do not. I have been broadcast to a virtual environment for years and I would order access to the console of a virtual computer was simply not necessary. You want a complete separation between the management of virtualization and the rest of the world.

  • See connection to the server can be installed on the server vCenter Server?

    Very simple question.

4.5 View connection server can be installed on the same virtual machine as vCenter 4.1?

I know that is not optimal.  He would only be in environments very small business (less than 10 users) where to buy two servers for VDI OS licenses would be unaffordable.

    Thank you.

No, they cannot be installed on the same machine.

  • Upload to the server to Test (webdav, environment)

I have been using VersionCue CS2 and GoLive CS2 for some time, and recently, I've upgraded to CS3.
I started using Dreamweaver CS3 with VersionCue CS3. I have installed Dreamweaver to use WebDav interface to communicate with the VersionCue CS3.

The problem I have is that when I try to upload local files to the server in test or production server, Dreamweaver tries to download the file and the directory "web content".
For example, if I want to download, / index.html, it will try to download on "/web-content/index.html".

    Here is the log:

/ var/www/html/Web-Content / - error - failed to create the file remote/var/www/html/web-content. Access denied. The file exists may not, or there could be a permission problem. Make sure you have permission on the server and the server is properly configured.
Web - content\index.html - cancelled by the user

Activity of the incomplete file. 1 file (s) or folder (s) have not been filled.

    Files with errors: 1
    / var/www/html/Web-Content.

How can I set the web content directory is the root of the document?

    Thanks in advance,

    KAZ O

My intention was to have a VersionCue CS2-like environment: and the directory "web content". I wanted to have several other directories as 'documents '.
It seems that to set up the document root, you must specify the "web content" under the document root, I created another project of webDAV for these directories 'documents '.
Having two separate projects really sucks, but at least it can do what I want to do.

If your environment is small, you can install vCenter with SQL Express that comes with the installation of the vCenter server.

Uh, you have not installed vCenter on the same server that is running your domain controller you have?

ADAM and cannot run on the same machine AD.

If it is installed on the same computer that your DC - get a new machine for VC - this configuration will never work. (minimum supported ram is 3 GB.)

We see in the newspapers that ADAM is not from, and that's why VC fails to start as well.

Failed to get all pages of search results: 0xa (a reference was returned by the server).

Couldn't find OU = container of Instances.  This may indicate a problem with the LDAP permissions for the execution account VirtualCenter, or that the schema is not compatible with this version of VirtualCenter.
