Sequence of power to RAID array

Hi, guys ~

In a few days, I will have received all the components for my new RAID. System failure:

2009 mac Pro (980W power supply inside), 3.33 GHz quad core, areca 1880ix-12, 16 GB RAM, ATI 5870 or GTX 285 (according to what I share in an establishment at times)

30 "monitor Apple Cinema HD Display (max 150W)

22 '' monitor Dell G2210 (max 22W)

Without digital TR8X w / (6) WD2003FYYS 2 TB RE4 drives (300W power supply inside), with two hot-spare parts installed. (8 disks total in box)

APC Smart-UPS 1500 (SUA1500), valued at 980W

APC Back - UPS RS 1500, evaluated 865W

(2) external hard drives for backups

Travel Q SATA drive dock (for backups of naked drive and clones)

I listed this because I wonder about the possible need / best practices of sequence to avoid problems with the power supplied by my two inverters to boot. In the RAID3 reconstruction time thread, it is mentioned that one needs a huge UPS to manage a computer with a RAID, so I hope to confirm that my system works properly. Normally, I turn on all drives before switching on the computer itself, and since this round of 8 bays RAID uses only a 300W power supply, it seems that one of the UPS units I have would be perfect for this. I intend to use the smallest for the RAID and the monitor 22 '' 865W UPS. The Mac Pro has a 980W power supply, but I never see the UPS go beyond 25% during power on. I intend to use the largest 980W Smart-UPS for the Mac Pro and the ACD 30 "monitor.

During heavy use, each must be supplied:

UPS Smart-UPS (980W)

263W = Mac Pro at full CPU load, may be higher when starting?

= 30 "ACD light max 150W

-----------------

413 watts

Back-UPS (865W)

300W = Tower RAID (not sure that he would have never touched this charge)

22W = 22 "monitor Dell

---------------

322 watts

Other external drives I can just broadcast on each of the UPS units with negligible effect, in my opinion.

Everyone sees a problem with this arrangement? In its current state without the RAID, I went through dozens of power cuts complete, near lightning, causing temporary outages from one to ten seconds, and other random events of flickering light without a single issue so far. It seems sturdy, but I turn to you for more knowledge.

Marcus

Marcus,

I have a couple of SUA1500 units and they are awesome. The RS 1500 is a unit of lesser quality.

I would say everything except running the monitor the SUA1500 off and the monitor on the 1500 RS.

The SUA1500 is quite capable of this charge (seen above, no seedless mines) and to have all disks, controller, etc. on a single common ground plan is much safer if you never have a bolt of lightning nearby. Set your ARECA to use a delay of 1 second to start sequenced by car, or you could play with less (I think mine is 0.4 seconds now). Then, you will never need one current current the power of 'start' for your disks full appeal (even if the digital Tower without runs all the time.)

  • Sequencing of power through individual PXI-4110

    Hi all

I have a hardware device that requires a sequence of power-up/power-down very specific in order to work properly and not be damaged.  According to the data sheet for the PXI-4110, he is able to meet the requirements of power, but I use Labview to create a VI of sequencing of power for each channel.

After investigating the options and study the DCPower examples, I understand how to set each channel, but from what I've seen, real initialization (property Initiate.vi) will supply based on "the instrument handle" alone, rather than undertake each channel of the instrument individually.

Is there a method to use Labview screws to separate the different channels of the PXI-4110 and control the boot sequence for each channel?

    Thanks for your time.

    Kind regards

    GSinMN

    Hey GSinMN,

Yes, you would be able to run a loop to increment the output in stages, but of course, the more steps, you have as much time as it takes to achieve your final value.  My concern would be that you go time 200 ms if you had too many steps.  Also, your total rise time will vary depending on your CPU, as well as other processes run you in the background.

If you compared the rise time on a certain CPU with some process running, probably not having the same rise time when porting your code to another machine.

It may be useful to ask the manufacturer of laser if they have no indication of what the tour of ramp at the time should look like.  The 4110 is designed to have a fast rise time with minimal excess for most of the charges, but it would be good to understand what they need for their laser.  Maybe is it acceptable to have a fast rise time, as long as the output does not exceed x % of the final value?  Any idea that they have on this would be helpful.

Please let us know how we can help.

    Thank you!

  • Raid array configured on PowerVault 220 s

Please help, I can build on my s 220 PowerVault Raid array if I don't have management software? Data storage connect to the Dell PowerEdge 4600 Server but drives raid hard configuration utility can set up one server.

  • OptiPlex 7020 and RAID array

    Greetings.

I bought an Optiplex 7020 and controller card SATA referenced in this post after you speak with a representative and come far from believing the 7020 and the SATA controller card combination would allow me to set up a RAID 1 array. I bought both the 7020 and the controller Dell card.

However, after several conversations with the Dell and Technical Support Technical Support Startech, I'm still not able to get this working. I am able to enter in the configuration menu of controller card at startup in addition to being able to access the system BIOS. The BIOS shows 'Mass Storage' assigned to the PCI Express slot (as it should), but complains without hard drive being found when I try to start.

Just for clarity: I'm not trying to use a built-in RAID configuration and try instead to use a controller card to take care of the RAID array. So I am (perhaps erroneous) belief that the 'RAID ON' in the BIOS setting is unimportant because the controller card takes care of the RAID array. BTW: My BIOS is not a parameter "RAID ON". I say just that to prevent an answering machine to take me on the way to the RAID configuration integrated. The 7020 does not come with built-in RAID.

In fact, this Dell page said I need to "buy additional hardware", which is exactly what I did when I bought the controller card - or at least I thought.

So the questions are: what should I do to be able to get my Optiplex 7020 to mirror the first drive on a second so that the second is bootable immediately in case one breaks down?  Do I need a software solution instead? Do I need extra hardware yet?

    Thanks in advance!

If this card requires a driver, so it is probably not responsible until Windows loads BIOS will not be able to see the drives connected on this card to boot from one of them.

And according to the Manual, the startup options are:

To specify the order in which the computer attempts to find an operating system. The options are:

    1. Floppy drive
    2. WDC WD2500AAKX-75U6AA0
    3. USB storage device
    4. CD/DVD/CD-RW drive
    5. Integrated NETWORK interface

Therefore, there is no option to say BIOS to get a boot on PCI - e drive.

That said, it is made reference to the Intel RAID controller in the manual, which suggests it could work with this system.

Win 8/8.1 and win 10, there is a built-in utility called "storage space" to create a mirror. Two drives must be connected to the SATA ports on the motherboard and probably identical in size. So give that a try...

  • Data store missing after the reconstruction of the raid array

One of the players in my raid array has failed a few days ago.

I had a spare drive in the table so the controller immediately began the process of rebuilding and all servers were running throughout.

When the reconstruction has been completed (I checked this via the user interface of raid array and the newspaper), I had to stop the server to remove disc defective (not replaceable chassis hot) and when I restarted the server, the data on the raid array store isn't there anymore.  I also checked through the raid controller interface that I removed the (defective) drive and that the table was always in a ready state when he came.

In vsphere client, when I click on the storage... Add link, the server sees the material but if I click then it tells me that it will be re - format the volume.  See attachment.  I have most certainly does not take the next step and reformat.  Simply, I took the screenshot and regularized.

I found these instructions, but they are for an older version of ESXi and am unsure if they are correct for ESXi 6.0.0 338124

VMware KB: Lack of data store after the reconstruction of the RAID disk/LUN

Here are the steps I should follow?

If these aren't the right instructions can you tell me the version which is for ESXi 6.0.0 338124 that I couldn't find anything either.

    Thank you

    Hi ThompsG,

Yes, there are two data stores for the virtual machine located on the RAID array.  The virtual machine itself was stored in a different data store that was not in the raid array.

I spent about 48 hours last week, including this morning, trying to coax ESXi recognizing volumes, with no luck.  Finally, I gave up and I removed the virtual computer hard drives that were on the corrupt data store.  Then the virtual machine came without problem.

Finally, since I have everything on these 2 volumes backed up to a cloud provider, I have recreated the two data stores in the raid array and began the restoration process. It is currently running and has about 16 days left to go.

  • After a failed raid array recovery my data store is missing

    Hi all

I'm under ESXi at home, but I have a problem with that I need help

First of all, let me start with the specs:

    ESXI: 5.1.0,799733

RAID Controller: Adaptec 6805 (driver of the community with the support)

Configuration of RAID: RAID 5 12,71 TB of disk

I had some problems with my RAID controller which I solved it using the Adaptec article: a table failed can be recovered? I ended up drop the table and re-create it.

The RAID array is now in OPTIMUM condition, so I started ESXi and connected using vSphere to find all my virtual machines as unknown (Inaccessible).

I started googling and found some information, but nothing so far to solve this problem.

I tried info from these links:

  • Restore virtual machines after building the new RAID array

    Hi all

I am new to the virtual machines, so I'm sorry for the newbie question. Currently, I have a HP ML350 G6 ESXi 5.0.0 running on 4 GB Flash hosting SD cards two virtual machines and licenses for 5 Essentials vSphere and vCenter Server 5 Essentials. I also have a RAID5 configuration with drives SAS 146 GB (6). I intend to remove all six readers and their replacement by 300 GB disks and build a RAID6 array. My question is, what would be the best practice to move the two VMS in the current RAID array to the new RAID array? Wouldn't be also simple to make backups of virtual machines or clones, exchanging the readers, the new array of construction and restoring virtual machines? If someone could point me in the right direction would be great!

    Thank you all!

Personally, I would go with backup & restore. In addition, use the downtime to upgrade the firmware of the host (HP published recently a few critical fixes on the RAID controller and some models of HARD drive).

What I would do - to avoid any problem - is to remove the host ESXi, vCenter, replace disks, update the firmware, re - install ESXi and as final step add the host to vCenter again.

  • Install ESXi cannot see the RAID array

I tried to install ESXi 5.1 on a HP Proliant Dl160 G6, with 4 hard drives of 2 TB in RAID 1 + 0 array, using a HP b110i controller. When it comes time to select the installation media ESXi to, the installer sees the 4 physical disks, rather than the logical disk that I created with the controller.

The b110i is a RAID controller-based software that does not support the ESXi.  As you have noticed it will not recognize the individual disks and it work perfectly with them as individual disks.  But if you are looking for a RAID array, you need to add another RAID controller.

  • I would like to migrate from Aperture. What happens to my masters that are on a RAID array and then what should I do with my safe which is located on a separate drive please?

I'm sorry, but I'm loud understand what happening to my master original RAW files, I keep offline on a RAID array and then what I do with my safe that, like all my photos modified? Sorry for this simple question, but would someone help please my lift the fog?

    Thank you

    Rob

One of the major downfalls of Aperture is that it shows you where are your pictures. They always favored it as a feature (even as a ' new paradigm'), but it's not so wonderful when you need to do something about Apple never intended. Then, it sounds really like it led to you not knowing where your files or files that correspond to which elements of the UI opening. I suggest that you need to nail for yourself - images from Aperture to right click and choose Show in Finder, until you know where everything is.

Otherwise, make sure you have plenty of available disk space, stop asking questions and just see what happens when you run plugin import LR with the options I suggested. It won't damage the opening.

  • Undetected RAID array

    I use a HP DL180 G5 equipped of an E200 HP controller.

I built two RAID arrays using the E200 controller

    1 65 GB hard drive

4 HDDs of 750 GB in RAID 5

I was able to successfully install ESXi 4.1 and everything seems to work without problems.  Except that I am unable to see the matrix RAID 2 to.  I am able to see the 1 65 GB drive, because that's where ESXi is installed.  But I can't seem to find the matrix RAID 2 to anywhere.

I tried to do a new analysis of all storage cards, but it is not always see it.  I tried to rebuild RAID 5, but it is not always see it.

When you run fdisk-l on the tech support console it does not show the RAID 5 array anywhere. I also ran lspci and it does not detect the Smart Array E200 mass storage, but it does not detect the RAID array.  DF not to see no more.

I don't know where to go from here.

What are the troubleshooting steps I can go through to find the missing RAID array?  I'm assuming that they will have to be performed from the CLI.

I have not tried to install 4 independent labels still to see if we can see them or not.  I'm sure that the disks are always good as I was running this server as a target iSCSI using Solaris 10 until a few weeks before.

    Welcome to the community,

ESX has a limitation for the disk/LUN 2 TB sizes less than 512 bytes. Assuming that you are running the latest firmware on the E200 and the upgrade of cache installed (required for RAID5) I recommend you remove the 65GB disk and create a RAID5 with 4 x 750GB disks. Since the RAID 5 create 3 logical volumes, for ESXi and 2 x 10 GB ~ 1 TB for VMFS data storage. You need to do this, use the ACU on the SmartStart CD utility.

See http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00688683/c00688683.pdf for more details E200

  • Ideal for RAID array

Because have a new video workstation built last autumn I used installer disk hard next five:

    D: / sound & video Media & CS5Projects

    E: / swap file & media Cache

    F: / Previews and exports

H: / other multimedia files (Photoshop, and al.)

This week I pick up a controller from Areca ARC-1880ix-16. With it, I will implement an array of RAID3 eight discs with a hot swap.

I tend to simply set up a unique folder for every video project that will contain all files previously stored on drives D, E and F. Before that, however, I want to solicit the comments or suggestions of others using RAID arrays.

The IMO = Im my opinion. See your the Internet Dictionary

The disk performance for the reader where export is stored is not very critical on export. CPU/GPU/memory is the usual bottleneck and exporting to: keep the fill rate on your lower raid, that you access two drives (raid and (H) at the same time instead of one (raid).

This brings you to the window again select array Type, there is now an option to view existing matrix. Using the arrow keys, select view existing array,

Select the Inactive matrix. Select manage the Array.

The only options available is to activate the table or delete the table. In order to get this controller to accept the disk configuration, select Activate array by using the arrow keys to highlight, and then press ENTER.

    Confirm Activation.

Return to the main menu and select SAS topology and check that the two tables are active.

Let me know how it goes.

  • The fastest way to update Equallogic firmware without RAID RAID array initialize?

I wonder if anyone has something they can share on how to upgrade the firmware to a new device (or newly reset) without having to wait for the RAID to initialize completely?

For example, I've reset a PS6100 I just booted and began to update the firmware, however when I get to restart phase it fails because the RAID is only 2% initialized.

Yes, you can reset it.  It will be just destroy everything again.

Re: CLI.  Yes, if you make the configuration of the serial CLI, it will allow you to delay the RAID strategy.

You'll just need assing the ETH0: IP port, then group IP and group name / password.

You will be at the GrpName > prompt.   Then you can transfer the kit firmware once again, run the update to install version 7.0.5.   When she comes back, you can either:

    GrpName > member select raid-policy

If the disks are TB or superior SATA, you really want to do RAID5 if you consider that.   Have chosen RAID6 or RAID50.

  • Regular driver change RAID array

I have a Dell Precision T5500 running Window 7. I want to get rid of the RAID group configuration, i.e. set up a RAID (drive) one pilot regular.  I would greatly appreciate any useful guide. Thank you.

    Hi Zqu99,

I guess you have RAID 1 (mirroring). If so, then simply turn off RAID in the BIOS of Intel RAID (Ctrl-i) should work. I think the option is ' restore discs non-RAID '.
