  About dmi tool, there is no legitimate sources where this can be downloaded (this is an internal tool of HP).  This is not to say that you won't find versions of this application available as if you're looking for, it's just that I'm not comfortable recommending it a.

  There is however another solution I suggest definitely trying, which is to create your own disc of Windows 7 at retail, this allows you to install a clean version of Windows 7 and then use the product key 25 character on your COA label to activate the operating system.

  You can do the following, but first make sure that you back up all your personal files, etc. external media.

  Before you try the following, make sure that you can always read the character product activation key 25 on your label Windows COA (5 blocks of 5 alphanumeric games).

  An example of a COA label can be seen here.

  You can create a Windows 7 installation disc yourself using another PC - just download the Disk Image correct ( this must be the same version that originally came with your laptop - it is listed as Windows 7 Home Premium 64 - bit ) from the link below and use an app like ImgBurn ( Note: you can deselect additional software during installation of ImgBurn offerings) to burn the ISO correctly on a blank DVD - a guide on the use of ImgBurn to write that an ISO on a disc is here.  The source of the Windows Image is Digital River.

  Start Notepad from the installation disc you just created - When you get to the part where you see the install button, choose the custom option (advanced option) and for each partition listed, click on it to highlight, then click on remove until you are left with just an entry for "Unallocated space".

  Then continue the installation of Windows.

  Enter the Windows activation key found on the label of the COA in the request and one time installation is complete, use the 'method of phone", described in detail in the link below to activate the operating system - this method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who want just a new installation of Windows 7 without additional software load normally delivered with OEM installations.

  I had HP DV6 1386ET for 3 years. I saw the message "Serial number Not Found" for about 2 months. I didn't like the message until I formatted the computer (yesterday). When I bought the computer, Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium has been loaded on the computer. but now, there is Windows 7 Home Basic Edition.   It seems that my bios has lost its information, I phoned Hp to this subject and it is clear my computer needs to be retatood or something along those lines, my warranty is passed, I would have to pay £200 for repairs (rip off I know) they said that this could be down to change the material (I didn't touch anything inside my computer as im not very well with the physical aspect of computers, I am with the software however. After I saw the "serial number not found" message appear I started getting messages like "Please activate windows, you have 30 days remaining (something in the way) I tried to enter the product key on the side of the computer, but some of the principal to wear on what makes it difficult to read, so I tried a Tassel factory and hell broke loose. im getting the error messages that I can't use this factory-installed partition that sits on my hard drive.

  Please help, im not paying for the mistakes of hp is there anything I can do, or something there t & c that makes it this problem because they design motherboards to fail like that?

  I have a mini 1151nr of hp... I bought at Verizon... About 6 months after purchase, I had to drop it to have the motherboard replaced / while it was under warranty.  When she came back to me everything worked as before, but I noticed that MS Works was not installed on it.

  I kept the laptop, use it with work, but I recently ordered the restore disks - I had no problem with the computer - but I used works of MS disk and installed the program.  After installation of the program and the computer restarted, instead of the usual startup with HP logo - the computer starts by displaying the Compaq logo and a red message that says - no serial number found... and the computer does not display the serial number or the computer model number.  I tried to restore the computer to factory settings, as well as the upgrade of the bios of the computer / upgrade the computer to WIndows 7... and I keep getting the same message to start the computer.

  You need to take your laptop to an HP authorized repair center, so they can "tattoo" the BIOS with the model number and the serial number with the DMI tool.

  It is matter of Toshiba and I can imagine that there is a problem with their database.
  In any case, I don't see any problem there. At the bottom of your laptop you can find the model number and it must be xxxxxxx PSLS9E I think that this first part of the model number is so important to you.

  This will help you find the right drivers on Toshiba support page.
  Serial number is not so important. The only thing you can do with it is to check the State of the laptop computer and the details under http://www.toshiba-tro.de/unitdetails
