Server 2008 R2 and SQL 2008 SP1
Here's my dilemma,
I got a new Dell R710 for my new VMware environment. The waiter came with 2008 R2, and my s/n told me that he had to install SP1 for the
Installation of SQL. I know that R2 or SP1 for SQL is officially supported by VMware still. I won't put on the old database and a plan to move the hosts in this environment, then upgrade.
My question is,
If I try to engage in this process of installing vSphere vCenter 4 on this system.
It also installs?
What kind of headaches I take?
Thank you

SQL * Server 2008 SP1 applied but still tries to download and install from Windows Update
I installed SQL * Server Express 2008 portable and applied the SP1 update. This shows that when we look at the programs/updates from Control Panel and management console confirms the 10.1.2531 version is running.
Whenever I use windows update service pack is listed as needing to download / install - the same KB968369 is given as a reference. I ran it a couple of times, but the update is indicated as unique every time.
Any ideas how to solve this problem?
Thank you

RedandBlue,
The link Shalini gave about the clean boot procedure provides detailed instructions on the use of MSConfig. I think you have just misunderstood the steps listed above. When you open msconfig, click on the button beside selective startup. Then uncheck (clear) the box "Load system services" and "Load Startup items" and then apply and restart. If you have not seen this thread , you can read through it, because it covers the same error you see. It's really annoying because at the time of installation, we thought that 25 GB should be plenty for the drive that contains the operating system only! Now we ran out of disk space on C:! (The only software installed on top of Windows is SQLServer 2008...). We organize this server and it's VERY expensive to get the C drive extended by our provider. So I'm looking for a solution urgently... and I can't seem to find it.
Three questions:
1. is there a tool offered by microsoft to reduce the size of this folder?
2. upgrade to Windows 2008 R2 reduces disk space on C:\Windows\winsxs. In this way we can (temporarily) expand the capacity, perform the upgrade and return to 25 GB.
3 - is Windows 2008 R2 also having this winsxs 'feature '?
Kind regards
Merijn

SQL Server Management Studio and SQL Azure
Hello:
I want to test SQL Azure - before be recommended to a customer.
The last time I performed a test of SQL Azure - I couldn't use SQL Server Management Studio to:
- Create tables with table designer
- Add - or remove - the columns of the tables with table designer
- Create diagrams
You know, the basic things you need to do to build, manage a database. Then... I told my customer that they would be better to stay with SQL Server, until Microsoft up to speed with SSMS.
Now I heard the new SSMS versions allow the use of designer tables and diagrams with SQL Azure. My questions are:
- Is it true that newer versions of SSMS for use of the table Design and diagramming with SQL Azure?
- If Yes, what version of SSMS and what version of SQL Azure?
Thanks in advance - MM

Services for SQL Server 2008 Express are not listed. No error message when installing.
Hello community,
I installed SQL Server Express 2008 (without SP but with SQL Management Studio) on a Windows XP 2002 SP3 32-bit. Used to install operating system user is a member of the administrator group
The SQLManagementStudio_x86_ENU.exe installation file was downloaded from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=7593 . Express Edition has been selected during the installation. All prior checks have been adopted (with the exception of 1 and 2 does not apply). I chose this version with management tools that I will need them for a quick change at a later stage. Then I installed on SQLServer2008SP1-KB968369 - x 86 - ENU.exe, which is the general Service Pack 1 for SQL Server 2008, which has been downloaded from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=20302. All prior checks have been adopted (with the exception of 1 and 2 does not apply). The installation window title was SQL Server Service Pack 1. In the step select the components, I had no other choice than the selection of shared components / basic management tools. To the right of the screen, it says "Express with Advanced Services" edition / Patch level: 10.0.1600.22
It ended with a message saying that your SQL Server 2008 upgrade completed successfully. The information contained in the mentioned log at the end of the installation displays no error message.
Here is the troubled part
Then I tried to install a different SW that has SQL Server 2008 SP1 as a sine qua non. What he did not. Then I rebooted and wanted to see what version was indeed installed.
Control Panel - Add/Remove software : 5 entries, Microsoft SQL Server 2005 backward compatibility / Microsoft SQL Server 2008 / Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Native Client / Microsoft SQL Server 2008 political / setup of Microsoft SQL Server 2008 supports files (no mention of SP1, can this be correct?)
Control Panel - Services : there is no service of any kind that has SQL Server on its behalf. This is very probably a major problem, a google for that advice that there should be more of them
Regedit - HKLM - SW-MS - MS SQL Server - 100 - Bootstrap Release - current Version : 10.1.2531.0 (Diffferent than SP1, think?)
Cmd - osql-u its Pei : named pipes provider: could not open a connection to SQL Server [2]. / Login timeout expiredI reboot several times since then.
I don't know the status of the installation before installing the SP1, I knew I'd need SP1 anyway.I suppose that services SQL Server issue resolved would be a big step forward.
Anyone has an idea on what I could check?
Thanks in advance, Laurent

For TMS Win2008 Server and SQL Server client access licenses?
Where, I read that the TMSXE interface requires a CAL on the Exchange Server. What I can't seem to locate is all information about client access licenses how are required to Win2008 R2 Server Standard Edition and SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard. Is there a reference document that I'm missing with this information. It seems that according to Microsofts definitions, you might need a CAL by user device and/or managed web that connects to the web interface.
Can someone clarify the situation?
Hello world
So should put the closure of this thread, I have now clarified what follows when it comes to TMS and MS licenses:
Users and administrators to connect to TMS authenticate AD, the server that hosts the TMS must be allowed to support authenticated connections. Don't authenticate TMS Managed/configure with AD devices via the web server. As a result, and as managed devices does not authenticate against IIS with AD login, these types of connections don't require licenses. Only users who connect to the Web site would be.
The issue of Exchange and SQL are similar, that is, authenticated connections how are made?
Of MSDS, all connections to SQL server use the same authenticated account, by default uses a SQL login. Web site users are not authenticated to SQL Server. Therefore, and in the case of an external SQL Server, this would be equal to one.
When communicating with Exchange, all connections are through a unique service account. Created for managed systems the mailboxes are not connected by users or MSDS for normal operation. As a result, and as with an external SQL Server, this would be also equal to one.
Hope that clarifies completely now
Rgds,
Dale

It turns out, there, there were two questions... first concealing the second.
SQL Web browser has not been activated. solution: in properties SQL server configuration manager, transformed the startup to automatic mode and activated the service.
Microsoft Visual Studio project property targetdatasourcefolder had a server name that precedes the name of the folder. Removed the name of the server. This works.
Everything unfolds right now.

Description of the problem

We install a new EPM 11.1.2.3 - HFM and FDM on one server that hosts the services of the Foundation and FR. Our question is on the CPU and Ram needed on the SQL Server. We have 2 users with 4 GB of data, but we have to get the good performance of SQL server.
Please provide me with a white paper link or just tell me what it takes.
Thanks in advance.
4 CPUS and 16 GB of RAM should be more than enough to support your needs
