Service Pack2, impossible to install - but now stuck in a loop

Hello.  I put Vista Home Premium upgraded to SP2 today.  In fact he was performing previously with no turned updates at all and I went through a cycle to run Windows update which added progressively first few updates, followed a restart, SP1, restart, then SP2.  During the installation of SP2 the message "Unable to install the Service pack" and then something to try to revert to the previous version.  However, it crashes then when it eventually stops and restarts the above error displays, stops, restarts etc. etc.

In the boot menu, I am able to select start windows repair - but it shows "cannot repair" with the only error in the details being "unspecified changes to system configuration may have caused the problem" recommended file system integrity check and repair the error code Oxå.

I see that others have had problems with sismilar - but suggested action, all require the system to begin the splash screen that mine does not work.  I can download sp2 th on another pc and burn it on disc - but can't find instructinos to do.  Instructions step by step on what to then please.

Thank you.

Mimbulus,
Start the command prompt and then type the following command and press ENTER:

pending.old c:\windows\winsxs\pending.xml Ren

Then, restart your system and see if it will boot normally.

To help you to propose measures to solve the problem, I would appreciate if you could answer the following question:

    2 successful wireless connection configuration?

    3. do you receive an error message or error code when trying to print?

  • Service Pack2 will not install on Vista

I try to install Service Pack 2 on Vista, but it's just not going to install on my laptop. I tried all the solutions given on the help, for example using rugged, stand alone installation, uninstallation of McAfee, etc with no luck.

The installation goes through steps 1 and 2 of fine, then get to 100% in step 3, bu, then it gives me a message "Service pack not installed, restore changes" and after about an hour, I get in Vista, where it gives me a message that the installation has been unsuccessful and the details of its says:

    ERROR_SERVICE_CANNOT_ACCEPT_CTRL (0 X 80070425)

    I use a Dell Inspiron 9400.

  • Prompt for updates to update in order to install 8.1, but get stuck in a loop. Error code 80073712.

So I finally got the Windows 8.1 update is displayed in the store, but he told me there are updates, I need to install. An update successfully installed without problem. But the 'KB2928678' update continues to run into errors. I get the error "80073712". I try troubleshooting it and it says it has solved the problem, but when I return to the screen updates it can even search updates and said that I never checked the updates at all.

And then it will do two things. either he's going to bring me back to say an important update is available or tell me updates failed. the last two attempts he said the update is available, but the update always fails every time. I went to the command prompt and has as well. Windows 8.1 has been popping up in the store today but now that he has, I'm having all these problems update.

    Hi Jerry,

    1. How have you installed service pack 1 before? Is it through Windows update?

    2. have you checked the Windows update history?

Check if the Service pack is already isntalled on the computer. Follow the steps.
    1. Right click on "computer".
    2. In the system of the Details check if section Serivce pack is mentioned.

If the Service pack is not installed, then you can download the stand-alone package for Service Pack 1 and install.

See the article to download the stand alone Service Pack 1, and then run the installation.

  • I exported my favorites to do a clean install, but now my exported file is nothing else than to the text pages. How can I recover my favorites?

I backed up my firefox bookmars and the file that came out is not specific file type. Even in the properties, he said only: "file type: file.

So now I'm trying to restore my favorites, but I can't open this file. If I try to open the file itself with firefox or another browser, by the way, I get long pages of text. It does not contain my favorites, but it is really hard to read. What can I do to fix this?

    This is a JSON backup.

You must rename the file and add a .json (lowercase) extension to make him recognize the file as a JSON of Firefox backup.

Note that restoring a JSON backup will replace all existing bookmarks.

  • Have only json bkmks prev FF 29 install, but now, how can I restore it as html? (Cannot find it in any menu FF.)

I had to reinstall win 7 a few days ago. The old installation is Win.OLD. After installation in the new configuration for FF29, I tried to simply move the file bkmks of html into the Win.OLD file on the new system, but somehow, it was just another copy of what was on the brand new facility of and seq. Looking deeper, I was able to find old favorites in a json file in a folder bookmarksbackup buried in AppData and could tell from the date and the size it was in fact the old bkmks, saved from the eve of the new facility.

I tried to find something here telling me how to 'restore' the json to html file, but everything that I could find that was bound, said only to "restore" the json file, but without any detail... so how do I do this? One answer given directions by using the menu of Firefox and using a restore feature, but what I have is the file/Edit/View/history/bookmarks/tools/help menu and the 'customize' page and it of functions, but cannot find anything on the restore/export/backup bookmarks. Am I missing a menu? Thank you!!

    Hi Asdlfjasdfjlasdf,

How did you install ServicePack initially?

You can try to start safe mode and try to perform a system restore.

    Step 1:

For a safe boot, you can follow the below given steps:

    1. remove all floppy disks, CDs and DVDs from your computer and restart your computer.

Click the Start button, click the arrow next to the button lock and then click on restart.

    2. do one of the following:

    a. If your computer has a single operating system installed, press and hold the F8 key as your computer restarts. You need to press F8 before the Windows logo appears. If the Windows logo appears, you need to try again by waiting until the Windows logon prompt appears, and then stop and restart your computer.

    b. If your computer has multiple operating systems, use the arrow keys to select the operating system you want to start in safe mode, and then press F8.

    3. in the display Advanced Startup Options, use the arrow keys to select the option of safe mode you want and press ENTER. For more information about the options, see startup options (including safe mode).

4 log your computer with a user account with administrator rights.

When your computer is in safe mode, you will see marked Safe Mode in the corners of the screen. To leave safe mode, restart your computer and let Windows start normally.

If you are able to boot to the desktop in safe mode try doing a restore of the system at a point when the computer was working fine.

For more information on Safe Mode, follow the link below:

Start your computer in safe mode

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

    Step 2:

To restore the operating system to an earlier point in time, follow these steps:

    1. Click Start, type system restore in the search box, and then click System Restore in the list programs.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click on continue.

    2. in the System Restore dialog box, click on choose a different restore point and then click Next

    3. in the list of restore points, click a restore point created before you started having the problem, and then click Next

    4. click on finish

Note: When you perform the system restore to restore the computer to a previous state, programs and updates that you have installed are removed.

For more information, please follow the below given link:

How to repair the operating system and how to restore the configuration of the operating system to an earlier point in time in Windows Vista

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/936212/

1 log on to the computer using an account with administrator rights

    2. click on start, type msconfig.exe in the start search box and press ENTER to start the System Configuration utility.

  • Impossible to install Vista Service Pack 2

Vista Service Pack 2 (KB948465) have not installed yesterday morning via my auto-download of Windows.  When the "failed" dialog box came, the error code given was 80070490.

I then tried a 'manual' download via the Microsoft Download site - it did not work.  Provided a link directing me to http://support.microsoft.com/kb947366.  He suggested download "tool update for Vista (KB947821) system, which I did, ran, then rebooted and tried again auto-download of Windows.  It is always impossible to install, with the same code (80070490) given.

During all this time, and reading various troubleshooting suggestions, I realized that I had to disable my antivirus, protection against spyware, etc.  So I did, then tried again auto-download of Windows.  It has always failed.  Then I tried the manual download (I had saved the executable file in my "Download" folder).  But it still does not work.

Somewhere else troubleshooting suggested to disable antispyware/virus, reset programs and open in safe mode - which I did, then tried the executable file downloaded, I had previously saved in my folder "Download".  But it still doesn't work.  This time, the dialog box has given me a little bit more information: "Installation was not successful.  Item was not found.  Details (a link that I clicked on) and it will read: error: ERROR_NOT_FOUND (0 x 80070490).

So I've now used up what little expertise I have - you suggested I should try next?

    Thank you!
