Until a few months back, I was able to transfer videos from Handycam to Windows Movie Maker and could change, to make the film. The last few months, I am unable to transfer the same. When I click on "Capture video from the device" WMM detects the device by clicking "Sony Digital Imaging Vedio 2' and 'next' theresfter... and after finally clicking on video menu setting the message poster"Class not registered"after trying again the message says"the video device is currently in use. " Close any other application that uses this device and try again "I guess this problem happens since I was insalled SP3. I tried to remove the SP3, but in vein. The final message shows ' specified fie not found. can't uninstall SP3' except this problem, the system works very well. What I'm doing. Plese Guide.

  I know that you don't have to get a firewire card, but it will be faster than the USB to transfer the video

  I have a XPS8700 on 8.1 and you want to import video from my old digital Handycam from Sony DCR TRV12E.

  Camcorder has both a usb port and an I.Link port. I learned that the camera is not supported under 8.1 with respect to the usb.

  Can we say with certainty if I can use the iLink. My understanding is that the iLink is simply a Firewire 1394 port has so if I buy a PCI-E card (e.g. SYBA PEX30001) it will work for me?

  It needs drivers of Sony to be recognized. You must look for the Sony support site help or drivers updated. Here's what I found:

  MPEG files are problematic in all versions of Movie Maker.
  Best bet would be to convert the files to the. WMV format
  before you import into Movie Maker.

  There are many converters available on the net... some
  free... some detail.

  The following freeware converter is just one example:

  (FWIW... it's always a good idea to create a system)
  Restore point before installing software or updates)

  Next, after the download and installation of Format
  Factory... you can open the program and
  left click on the toolbar, the "Option" button and
  "Select an output folder to" / apply / OK.
  (this is where you find your files after they)

  Drag and drop your video clips on the main screen...

  Select "all to WMV" / OK...

  Click on... Beginning... in the toolbar...

  It is probably a permissions problem.

  I have a Sony Handycam DCR-SR68 and a new computer Dell Inspiron 17R and computer will not play back video from the camera. It will not read the memory card installed on the computer or camcorder connected to the computer. It shows an image that say "MPEG" and will play audio but no video. Is it possible to convert these files to something compatible on Windows 8?

  Greetings!  10 years ago, I was quite handy with first and abandoned the hobby when life got in the way.  I'm ready to jump in now it, but I'm still feeling like a complete newb.  I have a few questions that are very basic, no doubt please bare with me.

  I have an old Sony DCR-TRV240 Ditial camcorder that records on a digital tape.  I have a lot of old images on those tapes I want to transfer them to a PC.  I intend to buy the latest version of first to edit the images once it is discharged.  The problem is 10 years of memories erased the process of transfer of my head and I don't completely remember how I moved the video a computer in the past.  Will be first built off of the transfer case on these old devices, or I have to find a solution from Sony to get the video on the computer first?  I have several ports on this thing, but lost the cables, so I'll start looking for replacements.  He got what Sony calls I.Link port to transfer to a computer I thought I remembered as firewire, but I see no mention of firewire in the manual.  This port will work with first or is it an exclusive deal for Sony?  It also has s-video and analog video output, but I guess I lose quality with these right?
