  Is it possible to have several data stores on 1 partition VMFS on scsi disk?  or have you partition than to install multiple VMFS partitions?

  I have 1 VMFS 500 GB partiton, but it does not chop into several datatsores?

  The 'fb' partition created during installation is the VMFS data store. You can add another disk and use fdisk without problem.

  To do what you want, I guess you would need to delete the existing partition and then use free space to create new partitions 2 or more which could then be formatted with the VMFS. It is a question of intresting so I thought I'd look around (not enough to trash my interesting, but interesting test server). I found this ad that may be useful

  I have install a camera VDR 2.0 with 2 - 1 TB data warehouses. One thing I wonder is if I create just backup 1 task it will use two data warehouses. Which means it will fill the 1 data store and then when it is complete, use the 2nd data store?

  Or I have to create two separate backup jobs for each data store? I looked and can't seem to find an answer to this question.

  I read a few whitepapers that suggest a maximum number of VM are run by LUN.  That being said, the recommendation would be to "drive with the virtual machine shop", or on a separate data store?  In what senario would you do one of the two?

  If you have group single disc less than 2 TB total in most cases there is no need to make separate data warehouses.

  I do this as an experiment. I have an empty hard disk of 40GB.

  First, create a data store, specify 10 GB.

  After that, try to create a new store of data again. The same hard drive will not appear to select.

  But if I try to increase the data store, it works. So that means I can't have more than 1 data store in a hard drive.

  No idea why Vmware design it this way?

  VMware strongly recommends the creation of a single vmfs volume on one partition, so the GUI does not allow you to create several stores data on the simple lun. It is design to reduce scsi2 reserves.

  You can, however, use vmkfstools command to create multiple vmfs on a single lun data stores.

  I have a situation where I created a server (Windows 2008) with 2 drives and E. C resides in its own store of SAN (80 GB) data. E is an another data store (also on the same SAN), 500 GB. ESXi/vCenter 4.0.x

  Unfortunately, the instant/VM SAN backup software will not support a VM with several data stores (I know, stupid is not it?). Data recovery product VMWare supports this, but anyway...

  If I elect not to reconfigure this virtual machine by using a single SAN data store to accommodate two C & E readers, I was wondering the best way to do this? I have vCenter (essentials more, so no Storage vMotion or something fancy).

  I note that the navigation data store I see vmdk files can be a right click and there is an option "move to".  My 80 GB data store contains all the vmx files, etc.

  So, I thought I could:

  1 resize the 80 GB to 580 GB or slightly larger SAN volume.

  2. extend the vmfs from 80 GB to 580 GB data store. I expanded vmfs in the past, it seemed pretty good. Did not notice the extents, are problems that say.

  3. move the vmdk to 500 GB in the new size 580 GB data store. Only, he has about 60 GB of data and is thin provisioned in VMWare and SAN.

  4. make sure that the VM settings show the correct location again for his inappropriate disc.

  5. turn power on and test.

  Or well, maybe I thought I could create a whole new data store of appropriate size to keep both drives, then run the converter to clone the virtual machine on the same host, but with records changed to go into the same data store (new).

  In the meantime, I asked Equallogic to explain why their product can't make backups of virtual machines with multiple data stores. This will be more important for an Exchange 2010 deployment later this fall... I intend to have 2-3 LUN used for databases, newspapers, bones.

  I would NEVER do a store of data of the exact size of the VMDK files that are contained in this... You must have at least 10% free space (or do not exceed 90% of use on the data store). It's a good idea, even when using a provisioning, because if your VM to start using their allocated space (when you are too far on allocated) you will quickly encounter issues.

  I would like to make a single 1 TB LUN, migrating the virtual machine (and all it's files) to the new data store and go from there. I would advise to check the VMDK file names since you could easily have the same exact since filename you places on two data stores differetn VMFS initially (another good reason to not do NOT)... I did it a common practice to make sure that a VM resides on a single store of data/LUN at a time. Go with this method ensures that all software/tools/utilities will not have a problem with the virtual machine (or all VM)...

  The idea was born to a very common condition between the companies IT. pre-sales and pro-ventes groups do various tasks, including the response of the RPF/RFI, PoC, building, Solution architecture, customer demo etc. Ususally they do not have the dedicated application instances, or rather they do not find a sufficient number of cases of applications dedicated to deep study of the road. Every other day a group cries out for an Apps instance and the same gets lift for senior management in short time. It gives a lot of pain to the infrastructure/DBA groups because they fail to meet people like them, due to the limited availability of free nodes, resources, networks and space etc.
  
  I have a Vision of the R12.1.3 (tell SID = VIS1213) installed on a Linux machine. The box is quite busy with his hearts limited, showing little free memory and the attached SAN has insufficient free space remaining. First I thought I'd take THE level, but it will not work if an instance of group to work with HRMS claims. We must therefore take business group level. After that we will create the appropriate role and responsibility, user profile options so that the new user can see and work on the new BG and data area down only. It will be like a separate instance to use.
  Benefits of my desired task will be
  
  -no separate server resource, the required network
  -no additional DBA not involved maintenance
  -no separate required backup plan
  
  So here it is to create 3 new "virtual instances" right within the same instance of VIS1213. New groups will have same URL, same existing TNS details but 3 credentials different existing access. Each of them would be limited in a way so that they can not see each and other data and can not hurt each and other changes.
  
  This can be achieved if we can copy an existing group of its activities with org structures, metadata and data, within the same instance. Oralce planning cannot be copied within the same instance configurations.
  
  What I've done so far was I manually created a new BG, attached an existing sobbing (CoA, Agenda / currency), created a new, copied and modified accounting structure flexfields before fixing, created the new ORGANIZATIONAL unit, and then a new InvOrg of master and a new InvOrg clild, defined the profile MO some GL and HR profiles. Then I extracted finished master and data assignment article category Masters against a master/child existing InvOrg, updated the data for newly created InvOrgs, inserted into tables insterface and ran seeded import conc program element. Except for a few, all data have been loaded into base against new InvOrgs tables.
  
  Then I tried with master provider (with sites and contacts). A few AP configurations are required, and then data provider (+ contact + site) have been loaded against OR newly created (under new BG) base tables.
  
  I do not proceed after that. I'm currently looking for ideas from the experts on how to go further.

  You can't have multiple tasks of the same type (in this case inputs analog) on the same device.  Just so having 1 DAQ Assistant read all your channels and separate your channels for individual transformation.
