Should be a simple matter to install Esxi

Try to get Esxi 4.0 running on a Dell XPS 400 Pentium D and 8 GB of RAM as a laboratory to test/system. This is a Mo DCP051 what the controller Intel ICH7 SATA in there. I don't use RAID, because I know that it does not work. I have a pair of 1 TB WD caviar Black sata disks in the box. Esxi installation complete with no complaints. To restart, I have CMTF except PF (14) in the 4831:PartedUtil world. Image of the GROUP is below.

I am at a loss. I was not able to find anything on this particular exception. The ICH7 actually work, I've seen conflicting reports. Any thoughts?

Thank you

That's the thing with ESX/ESXi, you look at all the components... You can run ESXi 3.5 on it, if you want to configure at least one ESX Server...

Can someone tell me how exactly?

    Thanks for your help,

I doubt you will find a driver for this NIC. In my opinion, it's much easier to get an inexpensive NIC that is supported or at least known as work (such as an Intel PRo/1000 GT).

  • Help with installing ESXi 5.1 with SSO

So I'm setting up a testlab and used a combination of guides in the links below.  Install ESXi seems very simple and it passes through unhindered.  I managed to log in via the Client VSphere Vcenter, but when I try to open the Web Client I get a "Page not found" error  I ran across two times and I'm stumped.  The local client works so I do not know why the Web Client is not.  I tried Https://10.0.0.100:9443 / vsphere client and https://vcadmin.testlab.local:9443 / vsphere client and no luck.  If you need more information please let me know.  Thanks for your suggestions, you can offer as I'm just learning.

vCenter 5.1 Installation (Part 1) & amp; #8211; Prepare data bases

I did all the pieces of 1-5 with this guide.  Once I got the error in the screenshot below I created new machines, started from scratch and used this second guide below (all parts), but always the same mistakes with the web client.

    http://www.derekseaman.com/2012/09/VMware-vCenter-51-installation-part-1.html

    Capture.PNG

I agree that the Web Client did not work because the SSO and Vcenter services were not started.  So after a few tests, I determined that the reason why these services wouldn't start and gave me errors I have screenshot in my second post here is because I only had 1 GB of RAM dedicated to the virtual machine.

1st test - VM with 1 GB of ram.  Local customer opens well but the Web customer service does not even start.

2nd test - VM with 2 GB of ram.  Local client continues to work and now the Web Client services start automatically as it should, but Web Client is terribly slow.

3rd test - VM with 4 GB of ram.  Customer Web works without in any way slow down large

4th test - VM back up to 1 GB of ram to double check.  Web customer service do not start.

After these tests, so you need 2 GB or MORE ram dedicated to your VM/lab server to ensure the work of WebClient.  It's something good to know.  Thanks for your help, I appreciate it.

  • Could not install ESXi on UCS B200M2

I have traced the image ISO of ESXi in KVM virtual media and installation of VM always failed with the message
"Could not load the module/usr/lib/vmware/vmkmod/vmfs3: failure.

I use the downloaded image from VMware with file name "VMware-VMvisor-Installer - 4.1.0.update1 - 348481.x86_64.iso.

Anyone know anything about this? Thank you

Sorry took me awhile to find the email.

So here's the deal with ISO specific to Cisco for ESXi.

You use the specific Cisco of ESXi image if you install ESXi on the following

1 UCS B230 local disk. Image 4.1 standard not a wrong driver LSI. If you perform a boot SAN with Palo you are fine.

    2. If you use any CNAs GEN2 (Emulex and Qlogic). It's true, regardless which you install ESXi on the blade.

According to internal e-mail, I'm looking at these drivers did not have the 4.1U1 image, but should be in the 4.1U2 and 4.0U3.

Result based on the answers above all what has worked and what has not with what equipment I would say that the news of the email are correct.

  • install Esxi on re-usable

    Hello

I have a Hp server, I intend to install Vmware on it. Please help me to sub questions.

1 > what version of Vmware would be appropriate install (ESXi 5.5 or 6.0)

2 > installation procedure of NU METAL.

    Thank you

    ANUP Kumar

    Welcome to the community,

    1. version to be used depends on what is supported on your hardware (see VMware Compatibility Guide) especially with the new generation of server (Gen8/Gen9) you must customize the installation ESXi yourself (inject the necessary drivers) or use the already custom image provided by HP (see Customize of Images VMware ESXi for HP ProLiant servers)
    2. the installation is quite simple. Start the host from an ESXi installation CD and follow the instructions on the screen.

What you can do before installing ESXi is to update the host with the latest firmware available and set up the RAID. Also, don't forget to activate the settings necessary BIOS, like the x - VT (Virtualization Technology)... It is also advisable to define 'High Performance' power management profile.

  • How to install ESXi 5.1 Server DELL with ESXi 5.5 installed on IDSDM?

    Hello

We get a new DELL server that gets 5.5 ESXi installed on IDSDM.

Given that we are still using ESXi 5.1, we want to set up this server to make it work also ESXi 5.1 update 3.

There are 2 physical disks in SAS, which has been configured as RAID1.

We would like to know when we install ESXi 5.1, ought to move the disk RAID1 or IDSDM cards?

If IDSDM cards are preferred, is used for the local HD in RAID?

If we should install on local RAID HD, can we use IDSDM as SSD for ESXi host cards?

    Thank you

In addition, if we install in the HD, can we use the SD card to ESXi host? : - You can install in HD and SD card is used to keep the backup in case of failure of HD of ESXi image. To do this, you must put the image cache in the SD card.

If you install in the SD card, then you must configure the scratches in HD because of the constraint of space with CD card.

    Hi all

When I try to install ESXi 5.5 U2 Intel S2600CW V3 during installation the server automatically restart immediately to initialization of ACPI.

I've installed all the latest Firmware and still I am facing the same issue.

In the BIOS, you should disable MMIO above 4 characteristic b. that is, BIOS > advanced > PCI configuration > MMIO beyond 4 GB > disable.

Install ESX after changing the BIOS setting it works fine.

  • Question about installing ESXi 5.5

I'm new to VMware and I tried to install ESXi 5.5 on some hardware that I need to build a test environment to home.  I know that some of my hardware is not on the supported list, but I have worked and now faced with a situation that I don't understand.

I have a processor intel Core i3 4130 running on a card mother B85 based.  I seems to have a problem with the VTx - d settings in the bios and that you must use noIOMMU to get the installation to run.

When I run the file .iso installation disc or usb image I go to the screen that says download now the client and to manage the server.  The strange thing is that along the way, I'm never asked what hard drive to install to, and it does not install on a hard drive.  It loads just for memory and runs from there, I think I can run this because all the hard drives are connected to the SATA3 and not SATA2 ports.  Could it be simple or is it the result of hardware compatibility problems, a simple change of SATA port will not fix?

As someone can tell me what noIOMMU done or where I can find this information for me.

    Thank you

    Ted

    Found!

It turns out that, as a result of information found in the thread Re: i7 - 4770 K Haswell core - ESXi5.1 hang "initializing IOV" is what made me.  The last message says to delete what is on the line and add noIOMMU to the line.  Delete what was on the line caused the installer to does not work.  Leaving the "runweasel" and adding let Setup and I'm good.  I guess not knowing what I was doing at all, let me make a mistake so simple, who would have thought to check it out.

In any case I now have ESXi installed in running and so time to play and learn.

Thanks for the help.  I'll probably looking more as I go.

  • After installing ESXi 5.1 computer does not boot any device

    Hello VMware Experts,

This certainly isn't my are of expertise as I work most of the time on the bet network but in any case here is my problem area, and I hope that some of you can help me with this.

So I bought a PC on Ebay hoping that I could define as an ESXi Server (here's the link:http://www.ebay.com/itm/Gateway-Intel-i5-3330-3GHz-8GB-1TB-Windows-8-Desktop-PC-DX4870-UB318-/321165075173?pt=Desktop_PCs & hash = item4ac6ee22e5 )

    )

So I downloaded ESXi 5.1 and begun to installed

First surprise, I had (it did not recognize my network card, I went to amazon and bought an Intel PCI Express NIC to get there)

After 2 weeks, I received it today.

Finally, I put the PCI network card in the motherboard and begin the installation.

Everything seems to be perfect, great when I had until I completed the installation... I smile and then saw the message Installation successful, remove the CD from the CD room and restart the server.

Right Awesooome! But then the problem occurred.

After that the unit is back from the restart process he did not recognize any boot image installed on the drive hard (hard disk already set from the BIOS as a startup option)

    An error message like:

does not recognize the bootable media

I tried re installation, overwriting without success. (Same behavior)

I know it's a very simple process, but what might happen here,

    Any ideas?

    Kind regards

    Jcarvaja

I have no idea why you install esxi on a metal bere machine but I assume you want for a lab at home.

Well from my experience, when I started to learn Vsphere 5.1 - I was installing windows 7 on a desktop computer - then bought Vmware Workstation - I installed 5 ESXI host on it and tested all the features (HA, DRS, FT, VMotion etc.).

I have a HDD i5 Desktop 2 t and 32 GB of Ram - but you could look for at least 8 GB of Ram it works perfectly.

Let me know if you need help setting up Esxi in workstation...

  • Problem installing ESXi 5.0

    Hello

I am trying to install ESXi on my HP DL360p Gen8 Server 5.0. The problem is that we can't see local hard disks that are mirrored on the server. It recognizes only the internal SD memory.

Has anyone encountered this problem before?

Make sure that your internal controller firmware is up-to-date and also try to install it by using the image of HP for ESXi: Customize the Images VMware ESXi for HP ProLiant servers

This should work better that you may need some driver embedded specific access disks.

  • Installed ESXi on USB/Flash but swap does not seem to have been placed on the virtual disk

    Hello

I've read several times that when you install ESXi 5.1 on flash media he creates a work space available on a virtual disk of 4 GB in/tmp/scratch so that the USB itself is not used for temporary data to extend the life of the USB.  However, this doesn't seem to be from my experience and I was wondering if someone can help me to confirm that my disc scratch is actually on a virtual disk or whatever on the USB.  I should mention as well as installing ESXi has identified correctly as 'flash' disc type and the disc as a "Generic USB drive»

After installation, I noticed two things:

1 log-in user activity logs are able to survive a reboot (I don't think they should the ramdisk is dissolved after a reboot)

    2. There is no directory with the path/tmp/scratch

Unfortunately I can not directly determine where the partition scratch is (be it on USB or RAM) because I did not have a file ' / etc/fstab "watching (even if I under ESXi 5.0 disk a hard base install?) and it doesn't seem to be a 'mount' command I can use to look at the existing mounts either.

Can anyone tell me what can I do to verify that the directory used for temporary files is actually a virtual disk and not on the USB drive itself?  Hours of research are presented only the forum messages and documentation clearly indicating that the file will use "/ tmp/scratch", but that just isn't the case.

Thanks in advance for all your help.

As you can see from the output

    ~ snip ~

the UUID is a store existing data "640GB_WD_Black_AALS-1".

This proves that with an existing data store, a folder ".locker" (which is a ScratchLocation) is automatically created.

  • 1st install ESXi does not connect to the network

I used VMware Fusion and several versions of the workstation. I am a computer SCIENCE student and I'm trying to set up a virtual server for the purpose of learning environment.

First, I installed ESXi in workstation computer on my laptop. I scare IT LIKED. I ran to the store bought a fresh HDD to install ESXi to my old server Supermicro (MBD-PDSMA + o LGA). During installation, I received a warning that the Intel Virtualization has been disabled on my motherboard. I activated that can restart the installation. No matter what I try I can not this 'thing' to get an address from my DHCP server. I even tried unpluging my router and using several computers on my network as DHCP servers. Each of them I tried my entire network has received fresh IP address but my supermicro box did not. I tried to use two network, port 0 only ports and only 1 port. After having lost about 24 hours I tried to install 5.0.0 and it worked without problem. I would like to be able to update the latest versions unmolested my network connection is going to die on me when I do.

    Ideas?

My next issue will be storage because not even my JABOD drives appear in my passthrough RocketRaid 2220 and PCI does not seem to be an option for this card. Yep, that's good baby PCI - X... Say what you want about RocketRaid, this card was sitting at the bottom of a box of son with no static case a few years to 3-4 moves and it still works like a champ.

I had the same problem with a card mother similar supermicro who has the same Intel Lan Adapter as yours.  Using the e1000 drivers of 5.0 worked for me.  I followed the instructions in this thread:

  • My concerns about installing ESXi on a USB Flash Disk

    Hello!

There was a lot of messages about installing esxi hypervisor on a usb flash drive, what I've done and I think it's ok because there's no need to waste expensive disks for installation of a very light bone

But I have a few questions and concerns in this regard. appreciate your answers.

1 - first of all I can't find my DL380 G7 Server internal usb. can someone give me a link or a picture where he is exactly?

2 - Suppose that after boot completely the host, something happens on the usb drive. If nothing happens? I think there should be nothing to worry about, because the hypervisor has been loaded into the memory of the server. Am I wrong?

3 - my concern is to have backup and the ability to restore that very quickly. some time in the past I had a single esxi host. I used powercli and commands appropriate for configuration backup host (I think that the command was something like esx-cfgbackup or like that).

so if the flash has been corrupted, I would replace it with another and restored the settings that

but now I host 4 esxi and vcenter. should I worry about this? How should I have backup? I know that SQL backup database of vcenter and its certificate is sufficient to have a backup of the settings of vcenter but on those who are just to vcenter and which are on the host? just want to say, what should I do to be able to replace a faulty usb disk (esxi is on it) with a new and all get back to work as it was?

Sorry if the questions are easy to answer. I'm just a beginner

and sorry for my bad English

Assuming that I don't have the license for the host profiles, what should I do?

It depends on the complexity of the configuration of the host. You can back up the configuration of the individual hosts or just reconfigure reinstalled once. In a larger environment, you'd probably for example the hosts scripted installation.

Because the server vCenter Server usually runs as a virtual machine, it is a good idea to do an image based backup (using backup vDR or 3 rd-party applications), and - in the case where you use a dedicated SQL Server - certainly back up the database. For the backup and restoration of vCenter Server, you can also take a look at http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1023985.

In the rare cases where an SD card fails, you can always vMotion virtual machines to another host and then reinstall the host with a new SD card.

People had a lot of problems installing ESXi4 on boxes, but it is associated with RAID controller driver.
