• Looking for Palm M515 Internet app

  I have a M515 is currently used with a Win XP Pro box to synchronize over the Internet with a proprietary database.  I'm migrating to Windows 7, and of course there is no USB drivers for the M515 that will work for Win 7.

  The solution I found is to run in XP Mode in Virtual PC running on the Windows 7 computer.  I've done this and installed Palm Desktop 4.1.4 and can do a Hotsync "regular" as well.

  However, when I install the lines provided by the company that manages the database, the synchronization operation fails with a cryptic error: "Unable to write data to the client database."

  Technical support was not very useful.  Their main suggestion is to uninstall and reinstall their leads software.  It does not help.  Their suggestion was that maybe the firewall or a / v intrudes.  They have said, "check the list of exceptions and make sure that Hotsync manager is a program allowed to access the internet."  Of course, on the box 'normal' XP, Hotsync manager is NOT on the list of exceptions, but I added it anyway in my virtual XP machine.  No help.

  I'm running the XP virtual machine as a user with administrator rights, so permissions should not be a problem... but I can't get technical support to identify the files to look at anyway.

  I would like to find an application add-on free that I could install that accesses a Web site, a bit as AvantGo used to do, I can't support that other software on the Palm can access the Internet fine.  I can't find something.  Everyone wants webbrowsers today, that does not match the idea of sync'ing once a day or more.

  For any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.  If I can't do this work on a virtual XP machine, I'll have to find a place to put a dedicated XP box that does nothing but provide a warm host my M515 of synchronization.

  Check in the Windows Hotsync jury for 64-bit ACCEECA USB drivers which referred to as akid.  Also, if you try to Palm Desktop 6.2.2 you should also try the www.pimlicosoftware.com freeware utility called PalmHotsyncSetup.  This utility adds inherited (i.e. old) Palm OS Palm Desktop 6.2.2 device compatibility.

I get an error message on my palm, saying that it can not connect and I have to configure my settings. I tried to switch to palm desktop and it says that my Com1 port is not open? Any suggestions?

  The first thing you should do when a part receiving device is Hard Reset to turn the unit to the factory settings and erase all their information. When the device's HotSync ' ed, a hotysnch user name is applied to the device. If you do not use the same username in Palm Desktop, when you synchronize, it won't recognize the user name and cause problems HotSync ' ing.

  Once the device is hard reset. Start the HotSync process and configure the user name that you want to use in Palm Desktop.

• Windows 7 - version for Palm work?

  I think that perhaps I understand the answers, but please tell me if I have it worked correctly. I have a Palm M515, so no bluetooth or wifi.

  1. I want a 32-bit system on a machine. I think that I can just install Windows 7 Home Premium, install Palm Desktop V4.1 and everything works perfectly as it does in Vista. I synchronize using USB or series. Is this fair?

  2. I want a 64-bit system on another machine. I know that Palm does not support 64-bit. However reading Microsoft pages if I buy Windows 7 Pro offers support for Windows XP Virtual Machine. I guess that the virtual machine can be 32-bit? So if I install then I think that I can install the Palm software (I'm on V4.1) and also use USB to synchronize. Is this fair? Someone has it already tried? Palm themselves tried yet?

  These seem to me crucial issues for many users in the 64-bit system become frequent. Palm reading these forums, I can't find anything about that on their website?

  I also now have Windows 7, 64 bit. Their inability to provide a 64-bit version of the USB driver is pathetic, it would cost very little.  (It works very well with Windows 7, 32-bit version).

  I will * never * buy another product Palm as we see how they treat their customers.

  I've heard of the solution of the IR, but there is also another solution which I use. If you can get one of the Palm Foundation for a serial port instead of USB and your computer has a serial port that works perfectly with the 64-bit version. I had to purchase and install a new double series and parallel PCI, and I had hoped that it would be supported by Windows 7 64 bit. I wanted even when I have an older HP Laserjet with a parallel cable. Fortunately, Windows 7 recognized as the card, so now my old printer and my old Palm are both operating normally.

• Synchronization of Palm M515 & Outlook 2000 suddenly stopped functioning...

  I have a Palm M515 I synchornize all day in Outlook 2000 by using HotSync Manager 4.1.0. I have been using this setup for years, and it suddenly stopped working. I get the error message on the screen of my Palm: "the connection between your handheld computer and the desktop could not be established. Please check your Setup and try again. "I tried all of the fixes recommended by Palm for troubleshooting synchronization without success. Y at - it ideas?

  Plug in your device and do not perform Hotsync. Then right click on 'My Computer' (on your PC) and go to "Properties". Click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager. Once there, you should see the Palm under Bus USB controllers or network adapters. Once you have located the device, right click and click on uninstall. As soon as you click on uninstall, disconnect the device from your computer. Allow the driver to completely uninstall and then reconnect your device to your computer and try a hotsync operation.

  This process is called reload the drivers. Let me know if it works for you.

  You are probably just seeing a message offering it for download, if you do not have an Android phone, you can safely ignore it. Do not update your Firefox on your computer but, you are using an older version. Update Firefox to the latest version

  Installation instructions for Windows 7 (from Aceeca) are included in the download.
  
  Basic instructions:
  
  1 download the drivers and extract them in the same folder.  Remember the folder that you extracted to.
  
  2. try to HotSync your device.  It will fail.
  
  3. open the Device Manager and look for the yellow Triangle next to the other "Acceca" or "'Palm device ' in the"Other devices"section."
  
  4. right click on the device and choose "Update driver software".
  
  5. choose "Browse my computer for software" and guide them to the folder that you extracted the drivers Aceeca.
  
  6 choose 'Next' in the driver and then file location window tell him 'Confidence always Aceeca Ltd. software', then click on the button "install".
  
  7. I received an error message (Vista64) who told me "the drivers have been installed, but the device could not be opened." I realized my TX had expired, and fell asleep.  I tried a HotSync and it worked!

  NOTE: Palm Desktop 6.22 may only multimedia show and install.  Here's how to fix this:

  If Palm Desktop 6.2.2 shows only the media and installation, try this: right click on the shortcut for Palm Desktop, and then choose 'run as administrator '.  Other modules should appear.

  To Palm Desktop run as administrator every time in Windows 8 / 8.1:

  Close to Palm Desktop, if it is open.  (This is a very important thing to do when you use 6.2.2 - it has been known to lose data when a computer is shut down without closing the program!)

  Right click on the desktop icon of Palm in the metro screen, then choose "open file location".  You will now see the actual file for the shortcut.

  Right-click on the file "Palm Desktop" shortcut, then properties.  Now, choose the tab compatibility at the top.

  At the bottom of the Compatibility tab is a checkbox: "run this program as an administrator", click OK.

  Try to open the Palm Desktop, all parties must appear.  You can see a box opens when you close the program asking "did the program runs correctly.   I chose 'Yes', and it has been working fine since then!

  If you are using a much older PalmOS device and try using Palm Desktop 4.x, you will need this additional patch Pimlico Software:

• Adobe Reader for Palm OS Tungston 5

  Anyone know why my keyboard sometimes when using Adobe Reader and don't go down when I press the arrow down?  The keyboard up and down in all other functions, as it should, but the arrow seems to be grayed out when ever I open Adobe.  I read a long document and have all the real estate on the screen I can get.

  There are no more recent version of Adobe Reader for Palm.  You search for a freeware called PalmPDF application.  Otherwise, a more recent version of Documents To Go will also read apps native .pdf without going through the conversion process used by Adobe Reader for Palm.

  You cannot synchronize in usb or wifi if you subscribe to the Apple's music. The basic principle of the AM is that your iTunes library is scanned to determine what can be matched or must be downloaded. Once completed, all the music you will be available to listen to or download on your iOS device.
