Site test server - definition

I created a local folder. I've set up the remote server. In the field of the test server, I just put that were the same that the remote server (machine in production), because so far we have developed directly on the live production server. I know, not a good idea... Before I do the remoteness, a folder on my computer, after you install the version of IIS and CF developer on my C: drive and have my local folder on my D: drive and just put this place to test.

Now, I want to do this to test, then once that everything tests OK, 'put' or 'check-in' of the files on the live server, all within the same definition of site in Dreamweaver... I don't know how to do this. Because when you 'put' or 'check-in' it goes on the remote server live production machine... not the test server.

Can someone clarify this situation as a whole for me? I can't find anything in the literature who speaks really get files from one place or another, other than to define 'do' and 'put' Check-in and check-out.

Help and thanks in advance.

The usual configuration here is to have a Web server running locally. Then
your site definition would have the local site on your hard drive, the
remote site on the production server and the testing server is in the
localhost, or on a network accessible for you server.

In addition, you are the only person working on this site?

Finally, archiving/retrieval works ONLY between local and remote. If you need to
Use checkin/checkout, then you will need TWO site definitions.

Definition 1
Local as usual
Remote is a staging server somewhere, which you can safely upward - and
Download files. This server can also be the testing server.

Definition 2
Local is the server test/staging
Remote is the production server

When you modify, use ONLY 1 site. When you are ready to publish, use
site 2 ONLY.

  • Test server for Site Dynamics w/Leopard

I'm trying to set up a PHP / site Spry using a Mac running OS X Leopard operating system. I'm using a PHP book that is very useful, but it has been written using Tiger and Leopard eliminated the Netinfo Manager. I had to change many 'hidden files' and use the Terminal & BBEdit to edit files and create any virtualhosts.

I have the latest version of PHP installed (10.5 x has integrated Apache, but it needs to be changed). I am in communication with my ISP, but I can't get past the error messages (I had to modify "php.ini" to report all errors) telling me that my definition of site for the local test server is incorrectly set up. I tried to use the root of the server computer, the folder from the site in the folder of the user and virtual hosting.

I am told that two files in my folder of the virtual server, which resides in my folder user with the extension ".php" are not executed by the testing server OR this folder is not mapped with the URL on the testing server. He asks me to verify that the URL prefix corresponds to the root of my site.

That's what he said when I use virtualhost; I get a similar message when I use the other two test local server configuration mentioned above. I followed the instructions in the book with a lot of attention, and I'm afraid that I made a mistake in some of the editing I've done for hidden files.

Does anyone know do this with a Mac running the latest version of Leopard?

Configuration of local test for Leopard servers is something that a lot of people talk on the web. I have read of many methods of creating and deleting accounts and virtual hosts. Perhaps my problem is that I tried the advice of many people who have experienced this problem with how Apple withdrew the Netinfo Manager when leopard is released. The need to modify the httpd.conf file is in most of these suugestions.

The thing that scares me is, is that I was told to type http://localhost/ and see if he showed me a screen showing that the Apache web server is running. This works.

I was advised to do the following:
Create a page called test.php, and type the following code:
<? PHP phpinfo();? > save to HD:Library:WebServer:Documents Macintosh.
Load the following URL in your browser: http://localhost/test.php
If you see PHP configuration screen, you are operational! Well, I get a message to report
Safari can't open the page "" http://localhost/test.php " because it does not connect to the server 'localhost'."

I'm stuck. What should I do? Check the various changes I made? I'm looking for help to set up the local test server. Perhaps the book I use (which was written for Tiger) does not go in what is what seems to indicate I have implemented in the Site definition. Or I messed up an important file. I'm new to the terminal and BBEdits to these Linux files using my computer.

I remember one of them/private/etc/hosts said, "Do not change this entry."

Told me to create a host and copy the existing settings of the local host (127.0.0.1)

But it helps when they show examples. As you can see I am confused.

The book is outstanding - it is written by David Powers. The only confusion is this leopard / test server problem.

    Help!

I use 10.5.2 and the latest version of PHP / Apache and Dreamweaver CS3.

The space in the name of the folder of two words was not only a problem; the fact that I do not name the folder 'egdwcs3' the biggest problem. As soon as I renamed the folder 'egdwcs3' it became a match for what I had called in the file/private/etc/hosts as localhost (127.0.0.1 egdwcs3).

When you told me told to rename the egdwcs3 folder I have (at the beginning) renamed Essential_Guide and, of course, always gave me error messages. Then it struck me that I did follow your advice 'to a T!

I wasn't getting what has been defined as the host should be identical to the name of the folder in the root of the server. Somewhere along the line, I saved a file in this folder wrongly named "egdwcs3.php" and I was looking at the files in Chapter 4 of the examples for the book uploaded folder files and I noticed there was no classified named 'egdwcs3.php' - one mentioned "datetest.php" that was when I had my Epiphany!

Now when I look at the file datetest.php with the button data direct I see today!

Consider this "Case_Closed.php!" and thank you, David!

    Once again - great book!

  • Links to the site fail on the local test server

Using CS4/WAMP/XP, I have a test set up server. Everything works fine except that when I specify links to the site, on the testing server they not go back to localhost, localhost/Frances. They work very well on the online site, but not on my test server.

This prevents me from using (and stable) "include" files for things like menus when parts of the site are in different folders.

I have my setup of site as follows:

    Local news

Name of the site 'FFG2009 '.

    Local root folder C:\wamp\www\Frances\

By default the folder images C:\wamp\www\Frances\images\

    HTTP address: http://localhost/Frances/

    Test server

    Server model: PHP/MySQL

    Access: Local/network

File of the test server: C:\wamp\www\Frances testing\

    URL prefix: http://localhost/Frances/

In my Apache configuration file, I have a virtual directory that is set up like this

    Alias /Frances/ "c:/wamp/www/Frances / '.

    < directory "c:/wamp/www/Frances /" > ".
    all options + includes
    AllowOverride all
    Order allow, deny
    Allow from 127.0.0.1
    < / Book >

I was informed that I could temporarily change the folder of Apache webroot on my record "Frances", but this stops other things like PHPMyAdmin to work. I also have other sites in my www directory and I don't want to change the rootweb Apache Directory each time I need to work on another site.

Is it possible to set up my site in CS4 so that the root links site go to localhost/Frances rather than just localhost?

    Thank you

    Tone'z

It's something I've had to do for some while now. Alias simply create shortcuts to a directory, they do not have their own directories 'Document Root'. I'm pretty sure you need to do is to set up a virtual host using WAMP (in fact, Apache, any installer is used). I'm almost certain that one of the books of David Powers cover the subject, but the one I apparently was already packed (moving soon).

I followed the steps of http://blog.jlbn.net/?p=23 and it was quick and much easier than I expected. He missed for subdomains, but I found the solution quickly to the http://www.sitepoint.com/forums/showthread.php?t=394472 (I don't know why I didn't get it virtual host, but Google has gotten in the way :-))

So now I have http://localhost , http://test.localhost and a true domain that I own (it's not hosted online) all running on my local computer.

In your case, you might want to implement the subdomain http://frances.localhost so as not to cause interference with the actual domain name. Or make sure you have the server offline. If you don't know how to do this in the file httpd.conf, then in WAMP, it's two mouse clicks: WAMP-> put in offline mode. It is a good idea in any case

Thank you for pushing me to learn how. It was high time that I updated in any case my installed WAMP.

  • How to use the test server.

I have my website concretestairslondon.co.uk and I want to redesign this website; However, I still want the old one as it is until my new is ready.

I have another domain and hosting and I would test this site I am building. I'll stop the crawlers to the site via htaccess so I don't get penalized for content duplicate.

I like the feature to automatically download to the server via save with Dreamweaver, but I'm afraid it will download to the remote server. What is the way to download only to a remote server when the site is fully completed and tests are completed?

In fact, you can have all the servers defined in the site definition, but DW use only those that you have enabled by checking either FTP or TESTS. In this case, let them all off except for the testing server.

  • Question to have a test server and a remote server

    Hello

    using DW CS6

I have my site on a XAMPP test server configuration. Now, I want to publish to a remote server. When I select the remote server, he wants to define me a site. This means that there my site listed twice in the box site definition. I see that there the site twice at one point going to cause me some confusion. It is necessary to define the site twice? Is it possible to have distance and test on the same site definition go on two different servers?

I ask is because the test server is new to me. I use to have the site put in place in a folder on my computer and the site definition was the remote server if jump between the two was quite simple. I wonder if it's possible that now, I have the site on XAMPP.

    Thank you

When you created your site in Dreamweaver, you give it a name and set up a local site folder, right? You should not do it twice to add a remote server.

In the Site configuration > servers, you 'll have to define a new server, however if you want to keep your test server. But this should be no conflict, because they are both pointing to the same local folder in XAMPP, right?

If I know I'm going to need a test server, I make sure that my site folder is in my XAMPP/htdocs/folder. In this way, that I don't have to worry about having to keep track of two versions of the same site. Then when it's time to upload it to the remote server, I'm just adding a new server and checking the box "Remote".

A site, two (Local/network and FTP servers), no conflicts.

  • Creating a test server

I use an Apple Mac and Dream Weaver.  I need to use PHP in HTML files.  While I have the site of Dream Weaver working with ipage.com, I have a hard time to a local test server setting.  I installed MAMP and have Apache and Mysql servers.  My DreamWeaver file is saved as

User/rnharri/Documents/Sites/S/D/test.php.  When I set up the site that I created

    ServerName: = localtest

    Connect using: Local/network

Folder on the server: / Users/rnharri/Documents/Sites/s/d

    Web URL: http://localhost/s/d

In a first time, I "can't find file: ' now, every time I run the file it it guide me thorugh set up a local server and executes the HTML code but ignore the code PHP.

Can someone tell me exactly what the URL of the Web: should include and how can I test on my mac to make sure that the directories are what I am specifying.

    Thank you

    Rick

    Rick,

MAMP default Applications/MAMP/htdocs folder and consider it as localhost, except otherwise, you have changed the setting.

You can create your site folder in /htdocs and then configure the definition in Dreamweaver. In this way, your site will be localhost/s/d and the path of your file will be s/htdocs/d.

I use MAMP PRO. But the setting is too more or less similar to MAMP (free version).

View "location on the disk. You can change this in your Documents/Sites folder if you prefer to work with files there. Then restart MAMP. Documents/Sites instead of MAMP/htdocs folder now pointing to localhost .

I would like to set up a test server, but despite research in the user manual, I don't understand the installation, that's what I did:

By disabling my computer 'server', can we still look at my pages in my browser?

If pressing F12 doesn't bring to the top of your page, your definition of the test server is wrong or you have not configured IIS correctly. You can certainly use Preview in the browser to any model of supported on Windows XP Server.

    > Yes, I now see that it is .asp, but it isn't by choice. What I did to

This model will be applied to the asp pages?
If not, my guess is that in creating this definition of the site, when the site «»
Assistant"asked only if you plan to use the technology on server side, you said yes,
    ASP.

Fix ' open definition site for editing.
    Click the Advanced tab.
in test server info, set access to zero.

then in the dw files Panel. Rename the template.dwt.asp to template.dwt

  • TEST SERVER PROBLEMS

I'm new to the development of dynamic websites. Caught in a very basic question. I use XP Pro, IIS works, trying to set up a page of ASPjavascript. In "site definition", "test files", my URL is http://localhost/test. "test URL" gives an error "Dreamweaver cannot use the prefix you have entered to display data on-line please check your site configuration or click Help for more information (HTTP error: 12029).
If I ignore this and complete site definition, when I do a new javascript page ASP, database application, links, etc server behaviors work--"established server test sites" is not checked.
I tried to read through books, forums etc. Have not been able to solve this problem. 'Test' folder to c:\inetpub\wwwroot\ The IIS http://localhost/ works very well. If I put in a file in the test folder "index.html" and the type of http://localhost/test/index.html , the page opens.
I would greatly appreciate any help on this issue.

Problem solved. It was the most fundamental problem. I got the personal firewall turned on and blocking dreamweaver to access internet. Activated by dreamweaver access through the firewall and everything works like clockwork.
in any case, now, I did research on the configuration of the test server as if everybody needs help, I can try both.

In the "Site Definition" dialog box, under test server, I chose "asp vpscript" as the model of server, ' Local/network' for access and pointed to the network share for the "test server" folder

No matter what I can not do DW to acknowledged that the testing server has been implemented.

Anyone know what to do at this point?

OK, I thought about it. DW 8 is not happy if you use an IP address instead of a domain name for the URL prefix. I put the URL prefix for the DNS entry for our development server and everything works fine now.

You can not. This isn't a matter of Dreamweaver.

Ask your server administrator why they password protected record of the test server.

You should not use frames in any case.  They are not web friendly.  Not mobile friendly. Not supported in the HTML5 code.

  • Help with test server - Wampserver

    Hello

I've just upgraded to Dreamweaver CC in Dreamweaver 8.  On attepmting to open a php page, Dreamweaver says I need to have a test server.  This is something that has confused kind of me, so I avoided to do.  Well, now I'm trying to set up a test server.  I'm learning!

All my sites web design are kept in a file on my D drive, here:

    D:\Documents\local_sites

I understand that although Wampserver wants to put me all my Web site files in:

    C:\wamp64\www

I don't understand.  Why should I move all my files?  I want that they kept in my documents!  I don't want to move my files on the drive where are my programs.  I want that they kept on my data disc!      What should I do?

Can someone explain this to me?

You can keep them where they are and push the duplicates on your local server. New versions of DW will do this automatically backup the.

Personally, I keep all of my PHP sites in the server itself to avoid the nonsense of duplication.
