Size of the band to RAID servers with ESXi - RAID 10

I know this has been asked several times, but I never saw no definitive answer to this question.

In my raid controllers [8704EM2 LSI / LSI-8708EM2] I can set the size of the band to get the size of band chosen by multiplying this with the amount of discs.

VMFS5 uses a block size of 1 MB, so with my configuration of 4 disks, I need the size of my band to 256 KB, for my 8 disks it is 128 KB.

When I create a new virtual machine I would use the eager willingness to zero thickness to avoid fragmentation in the data store, I think that that would be the optimal situation with regard to the data store?

[Linux] operating system in the virtual machine that would result in this theory?

Advice or comments?

I've never seen any definitive answer to this question.

Probably because there is no definitive answer to this question.

In my raid controllers [8704EM2 LSI / LSI-8708EM2]

You can gain more performance when you switch your controller/sata 3 Gbit/s old sata/6gbit one.

VMFS5 uses a block size of 1 MB

True, but vmfs5 also uses the subblocks of 8 KB. In addition, very small files)<1kB) can="" be="" stored="" in="">

I would use the eager willingness to zero thickness to avoid fragmentation within the data store

Where do you have idea * that * avoids fragmentation?

I think that this would be the optimal situation with regard to the data store?

I don't think this is not optimal, and I'm not sure that there is generally best value. Affecting the band of equal size block size vmfs5 maybe not the best option, because it is small enough. In addition, there are other things you should consider, i.e.:

-sector size of the hard disk (usually 512b or 4 KB)

-ssd read/erase (highly specific to the provider) block size

-Sectoral block size / filesystem VM (depending on the operating system)

-In charge of VM file system (depends on what your VM)

-the edge of your raid controller cache size

-type of raid-array (0,1,10,5,6,...)

-etc, etc.

IMHO, if you don't have time to test, just stick with the default. With blind shooting you can just make things worse...

  • How to reduce the size of the file of a picture with Windows 7?

    Can I reduce the file size of a picture with Windows 7 to make it easier to send multiple photos in an email?  Also some websites limit the file size of a picture to post on the site.

    There are many ways to do it.  But if you want to do only with Windows 7, without having to download any programs to deal with, then your best bet is the built-in paint program.

    1. Right click on the image you want to reduce, and choose "open with > paint ' in the menu.
    2. In the painting, choose file > save as (or press F12 to shortcut).
    3. In the save box, choose the menu file type JPEG downwards and the name of your image.  JPEG is the most compressed (smaller) size of the images.
  • Reduce the size of the virtual disk RAID 5

    I have Windows Server 2003 is installed on a virtual disk PERC H700 RAID-5. Total size of the disk is 5.5 TB. The problem is that WinServer 2003 cannot use the disk due to the MBR 2 TB limit (and I can't convert to GPT without destroy all partitions, which is what I try to avoid). Since 3.5 TB of drive space is unallocated (and reconciliations), is there a way to reduce the size of the virtual disk to remove this space which can not be used anyway? Then, I could by using the remaining capacity to create a new virtual disk that can be set up as GPT and access the space through it (or two new virtual drives 2 TB and 1.5 TB in size). I know that you can expand a virtual disk, but you can a shrink?

    No, you can develop most of the virtual drives, but you will not be able to reduce them.

    You will have to start on this subject, creating a VD less than 2 TB for boot/OS disk, then the rest can be used in an another VD.

  • Questions about to determine the size of the array of data storage with flexibility

    I try to use the CVI function below to load data from .csv file to the table that I was intending to use later:

    filereturnvalue = FileSelectPopup ("c:\\Users\\Desktop\\FileDirectory", "*.csv", "", 'Select the data file', VAL_LOAD_BUTTON, 0, 0, 1, 0, LoadFilePath);

    FileToArray (DATAArray, VAL_CHAR, LoadFilePath, MaxDataSize, 1, VAL_GROUPS_TOGETHER, VAL_GROUPS_AS_COLUMNS, VAL_ASCII);

    For the data table "predetermined", it is quite straightforward, because the size of the table is already set.  However, I wonder if there is anyway I could use CVI directly import data and determine the size of the array on the fly?  Which means that the user need not know the length of the data, and it could be determined then to import the file.

    Hello

    for ASCII files, you can do so in any first read the file and counting the newline characters, something like:

    int file_handle;
    int index;
    int size = 0;
    char line_buffer [80];

    If (OpenFile (...) > 0)
    {
    While (ReadLine (...) > 0)
    {
    size ++;
    }
    }
    CloseFile(f) (file_handle);

    This way you can determine the number of rows you have, but you must have an idea of how long a line may be, one number per line or 32000 because you must specify the size of your line_buffer.

    In the next step you analyserions monotube for occurrence of your column separator (say a ;) to determine the number of columns (separators found + 1).

  • Why the size of the brush and tools change with zoom?

    Why the Brush tool changes sizes when zoomed in and out? It is so boring. Is there a way to fix this? BTW I use the CS4 version. It happens to all other tools? I tried that it seems not, but I can't say if there is a big difference in the size of the brush as Brush tool.  Thanks for any help!

    Found this thread while searching for an answer to this question and figured out how to fix it, granted that this thread has been 5 years, so there is probably no reason to try and offer this image, but just in case flash is not dead and someone use it yet, here is GB.

  • How can I check the output size of the Image of an image with a variable

    I have problems with a filter, I write because I can not enter the output image size (x and y) in a filter without doing it manually with a parameter

  • The masks need images to match the size of the sequence or they work with a different scale.

    Now, it is normal to film 4 k for 1080 chronologies, speedgrade will be able to use masks, not taking into account the difference between chronology and images of size?

    I guess, you take a 4K and using the first Panel, applying the motion effect in the position and scale to fit in a sequence of 1080 and then directly link Speedgrade, apply a mask and missing his target.

    Work is about to lower the motion effect in the first Panel. But you can't reduce the motion effect, you must apply the effect of transformation.

    I mean by this is:

    -do not apply the motion effect

    -apply the transformation effect (it has the same position and scale under the effect of movement and can be rearranged because of first z-order)

    This effect is found in the effects of first under Video Effects Panel-deformation-transform

    and apply your Speedgrade Lumetri above the kind your masks are lining up for target.

  • Best practices for the configuration of virtual switches with ESXi

    So we have a dish network, no VLAN. I have a total of 6 NETWORK adapters per ESX host... Since there is no Service Console or is it shared with the Prod vswitch here is how I have the configuration of the NETWORK adapters.

    Keep in min, we use ESXi 3.5

    vSwitch0 - Vmotion - 2 NETWORK cards

    vSwitch1 - Vmkernel Port & Machine virtual port group - 4 NETWORK cards

    I have attached the screenshot.

    Please let me know if you do anything differently?

    Dave bang on! the IP of VMotion ESXi will be used for the same purpose. For many ESX on the brain, sorry.

    Each VM will get no more than 1 GbE over four network adapters. Once a virtual computer is given a NIC, it will remain on the NETWORK card using the default configuration and it is good because the virtual machines are distributed between the four of them.

  • Reduce the size of the VM disk?

    Hello

    I have a client who has an ESXi 4.0. The person who put up, set up with disc 3 x 1 TB, with 1 data store spans 3 discs, without redunancy, raid, or backup. This is my understanding of the functioning of data warehouses, that it is a bad set up.

    I want to recreate data warehouses, so there is a 1 store of data per disc, and I've only another 1 TB drive to do this, but one of the two virtual machines is defined with a size of virtual disk of 1 TB and I tried to move it to another disk of 1 TB, and it failed during the process I think because of lack of space. I was going to try to create new virtual discs and clone the readers through, but does not support the previous technology implemented servers with dynamic disks, instead of base and Acronis cloning to dynamic disks.

    So I wanted to know if there is another way to reduce the size of the virtual disk of the virtual machines, so I can recreate data warehouses. Or if anyone has any other suggestions for how can I do to recreate data warehouses without losing the servers.

    Any suggestions would be helpful and let me know if I need to provide more information, thank you!

    Hello and welcome to the communities.

    You can use VMware Converter to reduce the size of the ramdisks.

  • Set the font size in the generation of explicit report using a model

    Does anyone know how to set the font size using the generation of explicit report with MS Word?  I have trouble getting my 11th column to fit the correct size with the imported data table.  The values end up being off the screen.  Any ideas?

    I suspect that the answer is somewhere within MS Word instead of LabVIEW.  However, I tried it figure out in both and had no luck.  In WORD, I updated all fonts size = 10.  However, the table is imported to the format = 12.  In addition, the table cells are the same size, regardless of the number of columns is imported.

    David

    Just for future visitors to this question are aware, it is a known problem with the generation of report express vi.  There is no solution at this time and the problem will be resolved in future versions of LabVIEW.

  • How can I change the size of the solitaire card?

    From: S

    Hello

    When solitary reading recently, I pressed something that makes great cards. I love the little cards. Anyone have any suggestions on how to restore?

    From: grasshopper

    If you are referring to the actual size of the maps, it automatically changes with the size of the game window.  Just drag the border to adapt to the size you want. There is also what is called the "large print Deck", which can be changed by clicking on "Game", then "change appearance".  From there, you can select a card game and click on 'OK '.

  • Size of the disk

    I'm confused of the size of the virtual disk and allocation in ESXi 3.5.

    Virtual disks owned by VM converted using gaze of converter affect only the space used, I can do in VMware Server (and I want to do on ESXi as well).

    If I create a new VM on ESXi or if I try to add a virtual disk to an existing virtual machine disk space is allocated, and I have a chance to affect only the space I need.

    How can I create a virtual disk on ESXi and allocate dynamic space (as in VMware Server)?

    Concerning

    Marius

    This technique is called provisioning. You can create thin discs in 3.5 with vmkfstools command and then add as existing VM virtual disk.

    This implementation is fully supported in vSphere, so you can create thin discs with vSphere client.
