  I have a USB 3.0 Seagate external hard drive connected directly to one of the USB ports 3.0 at the back of the computer with the cable that came with the drive. Whenever I turn it on, I get the message "this device can perform faster - this USB mass storage device can transfer information faster if you connect it to a USB 3.0 Super speed.

  I tested the speed of the hard drive and transferred on a file of 1.16 GB in 58 seconds of my drive "C".

  I also transferred the same file in the same place, for comparison, on a hard drive 10 years from an old computer which is now in a closed Chamber. This hard drive is also plugged into a USB 3.0 at the back of the computer with a USB 2.0 cable and the files had 57 seconds to cross.

  So that would mean that the Seagate drive does not work at the speed of USB 3.0.

  Can you please advise me as to how I can get the right speed for my USB 3.0 ports?

  You can check for a driver to chipset update for your system.

  Please keep in mind that it is a rotating disc and data transfer speeds do not match the theoretical bus speed. Certainly not the often claimed "ten times faster than USB 2.0! In addition, there a 5900 RPM disk, so a little slower there also.

  A tweak, you can try is to make sure that drive policy properties tab is set for best performance.

  I have a WD external hard drive connected via USB 3.0 to the Linksys router. I'm trying to transfer a 2 GB file via wifi but taking up to 12 minutes for the transfer. Why slow transfer speeds?

  If you disable WMM on the EA4500 you also turn off the N wireless protocol. That will drastically slow down the wireless connection.

  The main objective of the ESXi server should be used as a NAS, but with the additional ability to run Windows or Linux VM casual as a game server.  I currently have Open Media Vault controls 1 to 4 hard drives in a configuration RAID10 of software with a plugin SMB/CIFS to provide access to the shares through the windows.

  Network management is through the card on board.  OMV uses its own port on the Intel network card.

  The problem:

  Transfers of networks (upload) to my Windows 7 PC to NAS OMV are slow (average 40MBps).  Playback speed (downloads) of SIN is about 100 Mbps, which is decent.  I tested the disk write speed using the hdparm since the console command, and they are all on average 110 - 130 Mbps.  Why is my computer so slow transfer speeds?  Is there a setting to ESXi which limits my network connection?

  Some things I noticed:

  If only I start a computer Windows 7 virtual on ESXi VMNetwork, my transfers from the Windows 7 VM to the NAS VM on average 105 MB/s, while the playback speed is around 90MBps.  If I could get my physical network to transfer at these speeds, it would be satisfactory.

  I just bought a toshiba external hard drive 3.0.
  I use windows 7 genuine.

  My pc specs are pretty ok cos I'm able to run games like crysis 2.
  The problem is my external hard drive has a slow transfer rate. This problem, I started facing along 3 months ago. My hard drive is out of warranty.

  My USB ports are ok and I connect it to the main port.
  Transfer speeds are 10 Mbit/s, and sometimes it falls to Kbps!

  In addition, it does not copy certain files and gives the error 'Cannot read from the source disk' or something like that.

A good way to make sure you can follow has a producer/consumer architecture so that the file writes are made in a separate loop. Backup to the binary is also much faster than backing up to the text.   I have a server 2008R2 with 32Gigs of Ram and core 2 Quad processors.  When I copy a large file (200gigs) of a directory and paste to another local on the machine, transfer speed is about 6-10 Mbps.  Anyone know why this would happen?  It also happens on my virtual machine running the same operating system to 2008R2, but with the 2008R2, it is limited to 4 logical processors.

• E4200 1.0.03 slow transfer from usb storage

  Hi, I have a newly formatted (i.e. empty) 2 TB WD my elite book that when I connect it to the usb port on my computer, can transfer a video file of 6 GB to over 100 MB/s depending on the area of detail of win 7.

  However, when I connect to the USB port on the back of the e4200 and try to transfer the same file, it only goes to 8 Mbps max... It seems to happen at the speed of usb 1.

  I have the latest firmware on both the e4200 and the my book 1111 and everything seems to be working for both, except when it is connected to the e4200, this transfer rate.

  Certainly, cisco does not specifically list this drive as being put to the test, but the router recognizes and it shows that usb 2.0, but still the transfer speed is simply too slow.

  8 MB/s is simply not feasible... I could just connect the drive directly to the computer and the part of her that way, but jumping on the e4200 has been one of the reasons why I bought the e4200.

  Anyone know of anyway to get higher through put... or I just hope that this problem is fixed in a later version of the firmware for the e4200.
