Slow Windows 7 performance; Fast in VirtualBox with Ubuntu

I have a very strange problem on my Sony Vaio VPCF232FX/B.

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 - bit with all updates installed. I installed clean with a retail disc and tried to run with the factory OEM image. Any method instalez, Windows 7 runs pretty slow. It isn't horrible, but it's boring at the same time. For example, I click on something, open directory, double click on a file, etc. and it will take 3-4 seconds for the same register that I took this action. Sometimes, the mouse will also stutter (he'll stop moving for a second then disappear and reappear (jump) a certain number of pixels in the direction I moved it).

Here's the strange part: I also have Ubuntu installed in a dual-boot configuration. If I install Windows 7 Home Premium 64 - bit through Ubuntu in VirtualBox and use my key to retail, Windows runs as expected. No hangs and everything is very fast.

Until someone asks: Yes, when I install Windows, I erase the entire disk and delete the Ubuntu partition to make sure that the window is installed by itself. Even then, I feel the same delays, crashes and stuttering mouse casual. I even tried to wipe the disc completely using own dispart order everything to make sure that no viruses exist on disk system hard.

Is there a reason why 64-bit Windows 7 would be better in a virtual environment in Ubuntu it would directly using all the system resources? This seems very strange to me.

I swapped the 500 GB drive with my 250 GB of spare drive. Both the same speed to 7200 RPM and both Advanced Format drives. The 250 GB drive showed a noticeable performance improvement and looked like what I remember being as out of the box. I have my hard drive replaced under warranty through Sony.

Thanks again for all the help.

  • What free security programs are best suited to Windows Server 2008R2 running in VirtualBox?

I installed Windows Server 2008R2 comments in VirtualBox with a host of Windows 7. It is my first experience with servers. As part of the installation and configuration, I want to install a lightweight, reliable and user friendly program. Microsoft Security Essentials would be ideal if it is compatible as I am familiar with MSSE, and as its performance. My research to date is back of contradictory information about MSSE: incompatible, use the version for Vista/7, choose from a list.

I'm hoping to get a recommendation based on personal experience rather than a list of programs. I went through a list of compatible security programs, but I'm not familiar with most of the programs listed.

With the latest Smart bays, you have to manually activate the cache writeback through the ACU (Array Configuration util), that you can run from the SmartStart CD/DVD. This is impossible inside the app from BIOS.

  • T40 USB question "this device can perform faster.

    Hello

    OS: Windows XP sp3.

The USB is just using USB 1.1 speed and informs "this device can perform faster..." ». I googled for this issue in an hour now without solution. The driver on your page for NT4 system. Where can I find a driver to get the proper speed? Or FAQ post, just something.

In your research, have you been able to find this link? : http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-50838

Even if the document refers to Windows 2000, this means that you need the latest drivers of Intel chipset for the 845 and 855 chipsets to get USB 2.0 support working.

The latest Lenovo drivers are available from the matrix of Thinkpad here (which are always old enough):

    http://www-307.IBM.com/PC/support/site.WSS/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-46058

I had to do something similar (many moons ago) I had on my old T40, but the version of Windows XP is come with the correct drivers, I just need to use Device Manager to update the drivers from the default values of windows to the USB 2.0 version.

    Hope that helps.

    EDIT:

You can also find information about the troubleshooting of devices USB 2.0 here:

    http://www-307.IBM.com/PC/support/site.WSS/MIGR-4YQHUD.html

The most useful excerpt of this link is probably:

Ensure that the USB device is USB 1.1 or 2.0 compatible.
Connect compatible devices USB 1.1 on a compatible port USB 2.0 will cause an error dialog box to appear. This dialog box details that a device non-haute speed was attached to a port high speed. The device must operate normally, but at a slower speed than if a 2.0 device is connected to the 2.0 port. Most of the USB 1.1 devices will operate normally in the USB 2.0 ports.

In case, the problem is with your driver (s) machine (s) rather than the hub/port USB driver.

  • Firefox very slow while Chrome is fast

    Hi all

Spin LMDE 2, totally updated and using Firefox 50.0.2 Firefox is really very slow for some time now - it is so slow to start, slow to scroll a page even with one tab open and takes a minute to type a full word. I tried to start Firefox in safe mode, completely deleting my user profile and start fresh, use "apt - get remove - purge" and then reinstalling firefox... and still stupidly slow. Chrome is fast, quick start, can run 20 + tabs without a slowdown in performance, no problem at all.

And my laptop is not in rest - it is 3 years old, has a processor i7, 8 GB of RAM and a Quadro video card. I have also run 2 LMDE and all apps from a 256 GB SSD card. The directory is on a 500 GB SATA hard drive, however. So I expect you to improve the performance of Firefox, so there must be something wrong - I would really appreciate if someone could give me some guidance as to what could be the problem please?

    Hello

Some Firefox problems can be solved by performing a clean reinstall. This means that you delete your Firefox program files, and then reinstall Firefox. This process does not delete your Firefox profile (such as bookmarks and passwords) data, since this information is stored in a different location.

To do a clean reinstall of Firefox, follow these steps: Note: you can print these steps or consult them in another browser.

    1. Download the latest version of Firefox from mozilla.org office (or choose the download for your operating system and language on this page) and save the file to install it on your computer.
    2. Once the download is complete, close all Firefox Windows (or open the Firefox menu and click on the button close ).
    3. Remove the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
      • Windows:

        • C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
        • C:\Program Files (x 86) \Mozilla Firefox
      • Mac: Delete Firefox in the Applications folder.
      • Linux: If you have installed Firefox with the distribution-based package manager, you must use the same way to uninstall: see Install Firefox on Linux. If you have downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
    4. Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
      1. Double-click on the downloaded Setup file and go through the steps in the installation wizard.
      2. Once the wizard is completed, click to open Firefox directly after clicking the Finish button.

More information on the resettlement of Firefox can be found here.

WARNING: Do not use an uninstaller to third parties as part of this process. This could permanently delete your Firefox profile data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and passwords saved. They can be retrieved easily unless they have been backed up on an external device! See back up and restore the information contained in the profiles of Firefox.

Please report to say if this helped you!

    Thank you.

  • Message: This device can perform faster if you connect high speed USB

    Hello

I have a laptop Toshiba Satellite 2009 of Vista.
I just bought a multimedia design Memup Feel of the disc hard 500 GB.

My concern is that when I connect to my PC, I have the following message:
+ This device can perform faster. USB devices can be faster if you connect to a USB 2.0 high speed +.
+ To get the list of available ports, click here. +

Then I have a list of ports in bold, but I don't know what to do with.

    How to solve my problem?

    Thank you

    Hello

Are you sure that your laptop is Satellite 2009?
I put t know this model of laptop.

But I know that this error message; This message appears if you connect a USB 2.0 device to a slower USB port; That is, USB 1.1
But I think that your laptop supports USB 2.0 ports either TI problem disc external HARD s or the issue of USB drivers
Try updating the chipset driver you can also delete all the USB controllers and hubs in Device Manager ports. Restart the unit. After restarting again the OS would recognize all USB ports.
Then try to reconnect the USB HDD

  • T400 incredibly slow Windows 7 boot

    Hello

I came across a problem that I can't bring myself to its cause is a mystery to me:

I got OEM Vista Ultimate installed on my T400, which worked well, but since I installed Windows 7 today, the windows startup takes unusually long, make me stuck "starting Windows" screen for about 10 minutes each time. Once it starts, it works OK without hiccups or lag whatsoever.

I have no idea where the root of this problem may be, perhaps this will give you an idea.

I had two T400 lying around, it had taken defective helmet (stuck somewhere, so the computer assumes that the headphones are always connected, so I could not any sound on the speakers.) As the headphone jack is soldered to the motherboard, I needed to replace the mobo) and the other had it bad LCD. So I decided to use the functional components to build a fully functional T400 and sell the other for parts.

    So what I did:

-Exchange of the LCD screens (LCD good + good mobo, bad LCD + bad mobo)

-Exchange processors (because one with defective plug had 2, 53Ghz - anything but the sound was very good! - while the other had only 2, 4 GHz)

-swapped hard drives (as those with defective jack was the computer I used usually, there were W7 installed, while the other had Vista)

I put them together and all in one that has Vista booted up quicky as usual (although as before, his mobo was used with a processor more fast and Windows 7), that now with W7 took forever to start up, which has never happened before. I thought it would be because of the CPU (the BIOS reset or disconnect the battery helped CMOS), if I swapped processors once more (-> back to their original mobos). The defective machine with Vista had no problems turning, but it did not help the machine running W7.

    Here is the mystery:

I swapped hard drives too, so the only change in their original configuration was the display (swapped defective TFT 1280 x 800 for good LED 1440 x 900) and after that two of them were able to start normally.

But once I erased the disc HARD with Vista on it, which worked very well in the machine where the drive of W7 took forever to start and reloaded Windows 7 at this disk, the problem returned.

Now I have two T400s with Windows 7, but rather of takes ages to start.

Search for the latest drivers on the website of the manufacturer of your video card. Manually search for on the site, don't use no matter what scanner because it and the one in the device manager - driver updates can find old drivers certified, Microsoft is well behing certifying new driver.

If you need help to find them look in control panel - display adapter - device management

Tell us the brand and model with driver Dates and Versions.

Also allows a fast video card but I'd check the driver 1.

  • Satellite A100 - low Windows Vista performance index

    Hey there,

I bought a Toshiba Satellite A100 just for more than a year now with Vista Home Premium. I recently formatted the laptop and installed Vista Business. When I got Home Premium, my 'Windows experience index' (found in Control Panel > system) has been a 3.0 for the graphics. Under Business, is however now that 1.0. I guess that it has not detected the graphics hardware on my laptop.

    How do it detects hardware?

    > I guess that it has not detected the graphics hardware on my laptop.

I put t know what do you say that it has not detected the graphic material, but you should definitely check out if the graphic and other driver drivers Toshiba have been installed on your laptop properly.

In addition, the Windows Vista experience index can change and can go down if more programs are installed on the system.
I noticed that my Windows Vista performance index decreases every time if a 3rd party application has been installed and then removed from the system.

In my opinion, Windows Vista index experience might be less because you have installed a newer version of the Vista operating system which contains functions of Vista more and so would need of more resources.

    Best regards

  • I want to buy Toshiba laptop with Ubuntu and windows

I want to buy a new laptop.
I don't want to pay 300 quid for yet another stupid Windows (if they are just a version properly, people don't need to keep buying new... oh wait... they make more money...).

Others don't offer laptops with Ubuntu (and not windows).

I find myself here, and Toshiba appear also does not provide laptops without windows.
Why? Why Toshiba offer laptops with pre-installed Ubuntu with no windows?

I use Ubuntu for 3 years, and altogether, he transformed my daily calculation. No more bloody virus, not 5 minutes log-ins/closures, no more program - crashing down the entire system. It is faster, safer, more flexible and * free *.

But because Toshiba do not appear to offer it, they can't get my habit (I'm in Ireland, so Toshiba options open to me may be different in other countries).

    Hello

First of all it s a forum from user to user and you get no response from Toshiba here in the forum.

But as much as I know that Toshiba laptops are not delivered with the distributions Linux.
Of course, you can install Linux if you want, but laptops are delivered with the Windows operating system. As far as I know with win 7 64 bit and 32 bit OS.

    Welcome them

    Memory :4.8
    Aero Glass graphics: 4.7
    Games graphics: 4.7
    HARD drive: 4.7 {color}

    I'm thrilled about my new A200 - 1 GB.
I found his performance is very good with Win Vista.

    Thanks again for Toshiba!

Dear friends... Send comments on this...

    Kind regards

Updates will not increase this Vista scores!
I noticed that each new installation of driver or the application decreases the score.

I found lots of useful information on other computers and websites vista and it seems that is nothing unusual. It seems all the operating systems and the modification of the registry entry has a bad influence on this Vista partition.

    Need simply s Vista ;)
