small environment - data warehouses how?

Hello.  I'm new to VMware and build a relatively small virtual server - 2 ESXi hosts and probably 8-10 VM environment.  I have a Bay of SAN storage with iSCSI, CIFS, NFS capability.  The virtual machine is your typical Windows - DC, SQL servers, web app, file servers.  I am looking for help on the implementation of data warehouses.  Is there a reason not to put all in the same data store?  May isolate the code SQL performance?

There are guides on best practices with that?

Of course I not'm not a storage expert so would appreciate any guidance at all.  Thank you

Dan M.

Basically you can't go wrong here, I think.

My instinct would be to create 2 or 3, if you almost certainly (assuming that your table is reasonable to run/number of disks) be with one as well.

If I went with three I would do this:

(1) for readers C: VM

(2) for VM, with the exception of SQL data (data file server, any data drive for a virtual machine that is not only a pure 'utility' as a DC or an as...)

(3) for SQL VM data

but really, it sounds too kill (even if it would not hurt you or make a burden of management...)

  • How to see 5 pools do not VM disks on data warehouses?

Hello.  I am new to view.  I just started a new job where they have a 5 view with more than 1,000 Linked Clone VM VDI environment.

There are warehouses of data 3fc which each have about 400 GB of free space by showing in the view tab in vCenter server administrator.  Asked me to create a new pool with 15 virtual machines.  Each VM will require about 35 GB of total disk space (disposable, internal, swap disk and vm).  Therefore, approximately 525 GB of disk space for the virtual machines.

I know that the amount of disk space required for the virtual machines is too big to fit on one of the data stores.  See split sort virtual machines in three warehouses of data?  If so, how composer decides what data stores to put the virtual disks of each virtual computer on?

    Thanks for your help!

It has to work this way, you have selected all three data warehouses when you configure the pool.   If this isn't the case, you will need to go back and change the settings of the pool to include data warehouses before starting commissioning.

  • RMAN duplication and expiration of the directives on the environment of data warehouse

    Operating systems: Windows Server 2008

Are there guidelines how often one should do a RMAN duplication and assign an expiration on archivelogs for data warehouse environments?
It me appears once a day would be enough for overlapping in a data warehouse environment which is updated nightly. Expiration, I don't expect less than 1 week.

  • How to change alerts on data warehouses?

Greetings! I have a situation where I know that one of my data stores will be almost full all the time but it never filling so I'm not worried to watch but there a mistake I want to disappear. On the other hand, I don't want to follow all the other data stores. The problem is that it seems that I can't include some data warehouses under the definition of an alert and another store of data under another definition. Does anyone know how do you allocate the alert definitions, some for specific data warehouses and another to monitor another data store? I am using vCenter Server 4.1.

    Thank you!

    Christopher Beard

You can turn off the alarm level of vCenter, then go in your storages of data display in your inventory and facility alarms there. However, you will need to do this for each data store.

  • How to remove ghost data warehouses?

Hi, I recently migrated my storage LUN from storage to another. After the migration, I had to activate resignaturing display the same LUNS in the new storage. In the new storage LUNS are presented as snapshot *.

I have re - label LUNS and re-save the VMs.

However, I wasn't able to delete old data warehouses. See "datastore", try to remove the old data store results in "the data store cannot be deleted because it is in use by one or more virtual hosts." Try to remove ESX server - & gt; Configuration - & gt; Storage means by "the application refers to an object that is no longer exist or didn't ever exist."

Is there a way to delete the old warehouses of data that no longer exists?

    Thank you!

I had a similar problem, and I think that I rebooted the host esx and this sorted it.

  • Keep two very large synchronized data warehouses

I look at the options to keep a very large (potentially 400GO) datastore TimesTen (11.2.2.5) in sync between a Production Server and [sleep].

The replication was abandoned because it does not support compressed tables, or table types creates our closed code (without PKs not null) application

    1. I did some tests with smaller data warehouses for the indicative figures, and a store of 7.4 GB data (according to dssize) has resulted in a set of 35 GB of backup (using ttBackup - type fileIncrOrFull). This surge in volume should, and would it extrapolate to a 400 GB data store (2 TB backup set?)?
    2. I have seen that there are incremental backups, but to keep our watch as hot, we will restore these backups and what I had read and tested only a ttDestroy/ttRestore is possible, that is full restoration of the full DSN every time, which takes time. Am I missing a smarter way to do this?
    3. Y at - it other than our request to keep two data warehouses in the construction phase, all other tricks we can use to effectively keep the two synchronized data stores?
    4. Random last question - I see "datastore" and "database" (and to a certain extent, "DSN") apparently interchangeable - are they the same thing in TimesTen?

Update: the 35 GB compress down with 7za to slightly more than 2.2 GB, but takes 5.5 hours to do this. If I take a fileFull stand-alone, it is only 7.4 GB on the disc and ends faster too.

    Thank you

It must be a system of Exalytics, right? I ask this question because compressed tables are not allowed for use outside of a system of Exalytics...

As you note, currently the replication is not possible in an Exalytics environment, but that is likely to change in the future and then he will certainly be the preferred mechanism for this. There is not really of another viable way to proceed otherwise than through the application.

    With regard to your questions:

    1. a backup consists mainly of file of the most recent checkpoint, more all the files/folders that are newer than this file logs. Thus, to reduce the size of a backup complete ensure

that a checkpoint occurs (e.g. "call ttCkpt" a ttIsql session) just before starting the backup.

    2. No, only the restore is possible from an incremental backup set. Also note that due to the large amount of rollforward needed, restore a large incremental backup set can take quite a long time. Backup and restore are not really intended for this purpose.

    3. If you are unable to use replication, then a sort of application-level synchronization is your only option.

4 data store and data mean the same thing - a physical TimesTen database. We prefer the database of the expression of our days; data store is a legacy term. A DSN is something different (Data Source Name) and should not be swapped with the data/database store. A DSN is a logical entity that defines the attributes of a database and how to connect. It is not the same as a database.

  • Total latancy in data warehouses

    Hello

My host has some datastores.one of them have high latency. What should I do?

We know total latency = device katency + kernel latency if suppose us device or kernel is high, how should solve the problem?

    Thank you

What I often find that alerts latency for data warehouses are related to CONSIDERING moves. Need large pieces of mobile data respond to a project. Are your warehouses of data showing high without cause latency? for long periods of time?

I have the internal team of vcenter provide guidance on what they consider the latency for ps read and write ps and make these TOUGH KPI threshold in vcops. So when an alert occurs it is a matter of understanding unplanned planned vs, so it's a matter of drilling data with your experts.

In my humble OPINION - be admin on vcops does not mean that you know the environment better than your teams... This means that you have useful data to share and then develop the best levels together and the SOP for what latency occurs and the steps to follow. We working through such things now... and test the adapter for Symmetrix. Looking is not on the HBA level so miss us some key data points, but we are working on the adapter to txt and other methods to get better data in vcops.

  • Wiping of data warehouses

We lack VCenter 4.1 with an iSCSI SAN (managed by IBM System Storage DS Storage Manager 10).  We have a few LUNS defined on the SAN and the LUNs (mapped?) data warehouses, but not all of the space on the SAN is still attributed to any logical unit number.

A former employee, set up our current LUNs, so we learn the entire process of creating for ourselves.  We wanted to do a test before you make drastic changes, but our test... showed us that we didn't understand completely what we were doing again.

Here's what we did and how it went wrong.

    • We have created a new, test of 250 GB LUN on the SAN (part of the unallocated space).
    • In VSphere Client, we went through the 'Add datastore' Assistant and went through all the stages of this new logic unit number.  Everything went great and we had a new store of VMFS data available to us.
    • As a test, we migrated a small virtual PC to the new VMFS.  It worked.
    • Then we migrated it to a pre-existing data stores. It worked also.
    • Then, in VSphere Client, we have removed our new test data store.
    • Then in the IBM System Storage Manager, we have removed our new test LUN.
    • Then, just to make sure that the space had been rehabilitated, we created a test new new LUN, also in 250 GB.  This has been attributed the same LUN number as the previous test of 250 GB LUN.
    • We returned in VSphere Client, and tried to 'add a data store' by using this new-new test LUN.  Everything works until we get to the current "Available to drive" part of the wizard.  It shows 250 GB as the 'ability' of the LUN, but '-' as 'available'... and the "next" button is grayed out.

    add-storage_scrnsht.png

Then... How can we do better?  Is it possible to delete a data store (or a logic unit number) so that the space of the deleted/LUN data store becomes 'Available' for the future creation of LUN/datastore?  We really had to be able to create a few large LUN in our space on the SAN, then remove the old, smaller LUNS created by the former employee and make MON new, bigger out of free space by removing the 'old' (since extending LUN does not work... the ex-employee tried this several times and we have hundreds of concerts tied up in space extended but unavailable LUN).

    How can we achieve this?

Thanks in advance for the attention and/or advice.

So, if I understand your situation, you had a unit number logic to 250 GB with VMFS, then you removed from the store database and then removed the SAN LUN.

Then, you create a new LUN on your storage, to the same size and LUN number array, but when you want to create a data store VMFS on it you can't and the size seems to be incorrect in the vSphere Client.

I wonder if it might be that the ESXi host is confused by the fact that it's the same LUN number. You could switch to the display of the storage card in the Configuration tab and do a rescan 'all '. Make sure you see the new empty LUN when you select the vmhbaXX, and then try to recreate the data store.

  • Helps the management of records in the "VM and Templates view" as well as the view of data warehouses

    All,

    I have 2 questions.

    (1) in the 'view of VM and models', we have organized our virtual center of demand for the two years.  However, there are still many persistent VM in the folder root from this point of view.  How can I export the virtual machine from this point of view only and exclude the virtual machine already in a subfolder.

For example, I have VM in APP1 and APP2 APP3 records.  However, there are still hundreds of virtual machines to the root.  When I try to view the virtual machine in the root folder, I get a list of everything, including the virtual machine in APP1 and APP2 APP3 records.

    (2) according to the data center, I have hundreds of data stores.  How can I make a list of people (about 200) and move them to a folder in this point of view.

For example, I have 100 stores of data that are specific to the exchange environment.  I would like to move all of those in an Exchange_LUN folder so that I can set different alarm setpoints.

All your data warehouses and folders have names unqiue, try the following

    $currentDir = pwd
    cd vmstores:
    Import-Csv -Path "C:\MyFile.csv" | %{
        $tgtFolder = Get-Folder -Name $_.Folder
        $ds = Get-Datastore -Name $_.Datastore
        $dsMoRef = @($ds.extensiondata.MoRef)
        $tgtFolder.ExtensionData.MoveIntoFolder($dsMoRef)
    }
    cd $currentDir

  • VMDK, vmfs, san, VM, mulitple volumes and data warehouses.

    Hello

I'm in the middle of the creation of a MV for a windows server which will have some data (about 10 records about 5 TB) file sharing. I find a better one how to create this virtual machine with a correct sizing of the data store, number of data to use store and the number of volumes must span the store data or best recomondation.

I don't think not vmware support 5 TB of data in the near future, max is less than 2 TB, so I put all data warehouses in a single 5 TB volume or multi-volume 1 TB, 2 TB, 2 TB, and options create the virtual machine with 6 disks (C = 80 GB, 1 TB = D E = 1 to, F = 1 to, G = 1 TB and H = 1 TB).  All my files are less than 1 TB in size and will be will not develop more than 1 TB. Due to the limitation of size of data store.

I'm looknig for some best practice, expereimented or recomondations solution. Should be an easy management of the virtual machine, an easy migration between the host migration easy with data warehouses or volumes, snapshot to replicate or volume volume, etc... This virtual machine is implemented with cluster.

    Thanks in advance.

I suggest that you set up a small test and storage vMotion for your self. Understand the limits of Storage vMotion

  • VM with disks of different data warehouses. Snapshots on the same data store?

    Hello

We have several virtual machines with disks on different data stores for reasons RAID.

Last night, we found that the snapshots of all disks are left on the data store main vmx and not on each datastore disk.

How will we change this as our OS data warehouses are small and run out of space when running shadow copies?

    Thank you

    Frogbeef

You can change the location of snapshots, but they will all go to this place - as far as I know, you cannot change the location of each disk.

  • Do we need data warehouse, if we only create dashboards and reports in obiee?

    Hello! I'm new to obiee.

My organization has decided to build their reports and dashboards using obiee. I am involved in this mission, but I don't have in-depth knowledge he obiee.  My question is what do we need to have the installation of the data warehouse? Or I just need to just install obiee by the creation of a repository, and then by creating a data source in publisher bi and then create dashboards or reports?

I'm confused too please help me in this regard. Please share any document or link where I can easily understand these things. Thank you

Please share any document or link where I can easily understand these things. Thank you

OBIEE is a software to run without a good understanding of its complex concepts. I would really recommend attending a training course, or at least a book (for example this or this). There are MANY items of general blog on OBIEE, many of which are of poor quality and are all step-by-step guides on how to do a particular task, without explaining the overall situation.

If you want to use OBIEE and to make it a success, you have learned to understand the basics.

    To answer your question directly:

-BI Publisher is not the same thing as OBIEE. It is a component of it (but also autonomous available). OBIEE makes data accessible through 'Dashboards' which is made up of 'Analysis', written in the answers tool. Dashboards can also contain content BI Publisher if you want

-OBIEE can report against the many sources of different data, one or more data warehouse and transactional. Most of the OBIEE implementations that perform well are based against dedicated DW, but is not a mandatory condition.

-If reports against a DW real or not, when you build the repository OBIEE you build a "virtual" data warehouse, in other words, you dimensionally model all your business in one data set of logic diagrams in Star.
