Snapshot with large RDM

Hello

I have a virtual machine with 2 virtual disks and 2 RDM. The 2 virtual drives are each about 20-30GB. The RDM is 2 TB each. Can I make a snapshot with just the 2 virtual drives? What is the best way to save before making changes

other than the backup.

Thank you

Mike

Hello

If the RDM are in mode physical then instant does not apply to the RDM. If your RDBMS is in virtual mode, then you can make snapshots of the RDM, but to do this, I'll make sure you have PLENTY of space, up to 2 tablespoons available just in case you do something touches all the blocks of the RDM.

Personally, I keep large RDMs like physics and save them within the virtual machine to an external source. Mitigate the need a lot of disk space.

    I used the migration assistant to transfer all the data from my old macbook pro to my new iMac, now the images in the Photos seem to be blurred, with large pixels. Recorded images were of high resolution, why what is happening? Is it possible to fix it. In the old macbook pro, the image looks ok.

    Migration assistant has a really bad experience with iPhoto and Photos

    If you still your old MB of available space, connect it to your new Mac (network, mode target firewire or use an external to the Mac OS extended (journaled) format hard drive and drag the iPhoto library folder images on the new Mac and heck the iPhoto library to icon in the Dock to migrate Photos)

    I hope this will work better

  • What to do with large channel count screens?

    My experience with large channel count, it's that you need to separate the mass shielding of the data acquisition system.  The current shields can be very high especially for number of major routes.  What would NEITHER take on that?  I think it is difficult to ensure that the ground used by the chassis is a real land.

    Hi Kyle,.

    I understand.  It would be better to be careful in this case.  Its impossible to know how much noise is induced in our environment.  Shields will go to a large plate (real Earth) and does not pass through the equipment NOR.

    Maybe NEITHER is going to try an experiment with 1000 channels or more in a noisy environment to test the PXI chassis.

  • Limitations of architecture with replication of VM with physical RDM Mode

    What are the Limitations of Architecture with replication of VM connected with physical RDM Mode in vsphere replication. Why VMware does not support this?

    I will add some colors to the response of GS. A particular interest with regard to the physical path RDM (pRDM) works, summarize these two chips of the article:

    • Physical mode specifies minimal virtualization SCSI of the mapped device, allowing greater flexibility for SAN management software.
    • VMkernel passes all SCSI commands to the device, with one exception - the REPORT LUNS command is virtualized, so that the VMkernel can isolate the LUN to the virtual machine owner. Otherwise, all the physical characteristics of the underlying hardware are exposed.

    There is an integrated in vSphere vSphere (RV) replication agent that has several functions. In particular, she keeps track of the Scriptures to the virtual machine. When a replication cycle occurs, the changed data is replicated to the target location. The VR agent should be able to 'see' These Scriptures to follow. Given that the physical mode all SCSI commands directly to the device, the VR agent is unable to follow these changes for replication.

  • Delete all SNAPSHOTS with script

    I'm trying to set up a workflow for my colleagues to easily adjust color, brightness and so on by simply clicking on a SNAPSHOT that easily shows them the result. The snapshot is generated by a macro master calling alarge number of macros. But my clever :-) solution fails because I want to give them the opportunity to run the macro master twice (for example the brightness) and they are then asked with a dialog box that asks them if they would like to replace the snapshot that already exist wit the same name. Simply, I don't know an easy way to delete snapshots. Historic range is easy to remove. If it was just a bunch of macros I could find a way to fix it manually, but I have like 80-100 macros in different groups.

    I thought of this solution:

    MASTER MACRO 1

    -SELECT ALL. COPY.

    -DELETE ALL THE SNAPSHOTS (with the script)

    -PASTE THE IMAGE

    -MACRO RUNS APPLE (Apple instant recording)

    -MACRO RUNS TOMATO (tomato instant recording)

    -CONTINUES DURING SEVERAL OTHER...

    The user chooses instant TOMATO , also wants to run snapshot APPLE. Click again on the MACRO 1.

    Someone out there who can think of a solution or another idea?

    (Photoshop CS6 on a Mac)

    Here is the solution:

    var doc = app.activeDocument;

    HS var = doc.historyStates;

    for (var a = hs.length - 1; a > = 0;--a) {})

    {if(HS[a].) Snapshot)}

    doc.activeHistoryState = [a] hs;

    delHist();

    }

    }

    function delHist() {}

    var desc20 = new ActionDescriptor();

    var ref23 = new ActionReference();

    ref23.putProperty (charIDToTypeID ('HstS'), charIDToTypeID ('Indonésia'));

    desc20.putReference (charIDToTypeID ('null'), ref23);

    executeAction (charIDToTypeID ('Dlt'), desc20, DialogModes.NO);

    };

  • MSCS with a RDM SAN LUN

    I'm building a Microsoft Cluster with two VM on the physical host computers separate servers.  Based on what I have read so far using a RDM SAN LUN is supported when the cluster nodes are on separate host servers.  VMFS formatted SAN LUNS are not supported when the nodes are on separate host servers.

    If I have I need of several shared volumes, the only commune RDM LUN can cause several volumes in windows or each shared volume is associated with a RDM LUN?

    ESXi 5.0

    Windows Server Standard 2008 R2 x 64-cluster nodes

    Welcome to the community,

    usually, you would create a volume on a LUN (essentially identical with the physical installation of MSCS). Having multiple volumes on a single LUN would make not much sense anyway, because MSCS can not move LUN between nodes (i.e. only a single cluster node can be the owner/Defender).

  • Snapshot with RDM in physical compatibility mode

    Dear team,

    I added a RDM as created the D drive and kept some data on the D drive

    Create the snapshot

    create a folder on drive C and D like new

    go back to the snapshot, it will be powerofff the virtual machine, the virtual machine of poweron

    changes made on the disk drive to be: D RDM will be there or come back or it will corrupt data

    Note: The SCSI Bus sharing together as none.

    concerning

    Mr. Vmware

    RDM in physical mode (pass-trough) are excluded from the snapshots. In the case where you go back to a snapshot on RDM disk changes will not be cancelled.

  • Failed to create a snapshot with 2 TB of virtual disk?

    I have a virtual file server with a 2 TB virtual disk (vmdk).  When I try to create a snapshot of the system (to save), I get the following error:

    < Unspecified file name > file is larger than the maximum size supported by the data store ' < unspecified datastore >.

    The data store located on the file server is formatted with 5.54 VMFS with size of 1 MB.  It's a data store of 12 TB with about 6 TB free.

    That is right.  If you want to take a snapshot, then the maximum size is GB 2032.   And this is the case even if thin you load the disc.

  • Snapshot with 900 GB. How to get involved?

    Hello

    I ve a virtual machine with a large snashot, my client show track information (see attached). Now, I want to now, how can I safely remove this virtual machine? A tip?

    This virtual machine running SQL .

    ESX4.1 with vCenter 4.1.

    Any tips?

    Mauro,

    Since it is ESXi 4.1, you can simply run a 'Delete All', assuming that the basic disk is thick provisioned and you have a free disk space on the data store for the snapshot to Consolidate-Helper that will be created and used while the snapshot is being merged into the basic disk.

    Make sure there is absolutely no consecutive backup of application, who may try to take another snapshot then that removing is running!

    As we already mentioned, do not operate it during office hours.

  • SQL snapshots in physical RDM mode help?

    If a virtual machine with a drive located on a RDM in physical mode, doing things like SQL snapshots work?

    There is a discussion where some people wondered if them soon be virtualized servers SQL must use internal iSCSI client to connect directly to a SAN logical unit number or if you are using a physical RDM mode. They were not sure if features like SQL snapshots work.

    Operating system doesn't "know" what type of disc it uses (virtual physical RDM, RDM virtual disk), so that all the functions as snapshots made within the OS itself will work the same. It's only the instant VMware that has no effect on a physical RDM.

  • Snapshot with Exchange 2007 and AD backups?

    Hi all

    I was wondering if best practices in ESX4 changed regarding snapshots for backups go. Is still a bad idea to take a snapshot of your Exchange and AD server? As I know that in the last restore from a snapshot in a situation of failure total was not recommended for AD or Exchange. This changed at all or anyone has tested this more in detail?

    Also as far as backups go it is always advisable to make an announcement file level backup and exchange with your agent of backup software (IE. Backup Exec Agent 12.5 Exchange / AD agent, ect)

    A lot depends on how you have the Exchange Setup program.  You have your database and logs on the VMDK files?  RDM?  All these things will make a difference on how you protect the virtual machine.  In my view, there is no size unique all the backup strategy for virtual machines and applications, so it depends on what your environment looks like.

    I have the environments that use snapshots and vRanger to connect to VMS Exchange backup.  But the restore strategy depends on what actually happens to know which method is used for the restore.

  • Performance problems with large Photo library size

    Did anyone seen performance issues when the library becomes too great? I used to keep a few different libraries, since some of my libraries are already 1 TB. So, if I merge into one, the file will be 2-3 Tb when it's said and done. Anyone know if it is recommended to size limits or is it more important with El Capitan. Obviously, the response time will be affected by the hard drive and the speed of the laptop, but before you begin merging into one file libraries, I wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions/recommendations or other related advice. Thank you!

    It is not documented, but how many pictures a library can contain pictures, you can migrate photos iPhoto libraries and libraries Aperture, so you should be able to store at least 1 000 000 photos in a photo library.

    I haven't noticed any performance issue with a large library of Photos.  My largest library has 40000 photos.

    During the regular work with the size of the library is not serious at all, as long as you want to keep enough free storage on your system drive. Don't let the photo library fill in your system drive. Keep at least 10 GB free at all times, better more.

    However, there are rare occasions when the size will be discussed:

    • When you need repair library, it will take more time, if the library is large.
    • When you first migrate your libraries of photos, the initial treatment will take longer - scanning for faces and places, creating thumbnails.
    • If you use iCloud library synchronization can take a long time for a large library.
    • Too many smart albums can make pictures a little slower, if the library is large.  I noticed a drop in performance, after that I created 200 smart albums with a search for text across the entire library.
