  • How update of ESX 4 Update 1

Hello all, I need help for the upgrade of our ESX servers.

We have 7 ESX 4 Server (Advanced) and a (Advanced) Vcenter server. I moved the virtual machines of 2 ESX servers to other servers and installed

the news using the iso file to update 1. There is therefore 5 left ESX servers to update, but I don't want to do this by the migration of virtual machines to others

servers and installation of the host with iso update 1.

So I downloaded ESX - 4.0.0 - update01.zip and Vmware Vsphere Upgrade Guide. What is the good guide? Chapter 14 (update an ESX/ESXi host using Offline bundles with the vihostupdate utility) is the right one for me, OK?

I don't really understand how to upgrade hosts with the vihostupdate command. I installed the VMware vSphere Management Assistant (vMA) virtual appliance on any of the ESX host and now?

ESX 4.0 U1 server upgrade is not supported with vSphere Host Update Utility. You can use vHUU for the upgrade to ESXi 40-U1 with online portal.

  • Adding disks to update 2 ESX 3.5 Server

    Hello

I added 2 extra disks(300GB) to our server ESX 3.5 Update 2 (use local storage on the server), but the ESX Server is not picking up these extra drives like all, I did re-scanner but does not collect these discs.  The server we have is a Dell PowerEdge2950.  Could some please advise correct how to add additional disks to the ESX Server.

    Thank you

    vmguy

You will most likely find the documentation for the specific RAID controller, use the DELL web page. Usually, it's as easy to enter in BIOS RAID controllers, while the host starts, creating a RAID set of new unused disks and configuration of a logical volume (DELL so-called virtual disks in their documentation) on the RAID.

  • How many ways to update host ESX/ESXi

To my understanding there are 3 ways of updating ESX/ESXi host.

    • VMware Update Manager
    • VMware host utility update
    • vihostupdate

VUM - update host, vm, vApps and models (this one I'm sure)

VMware host update utility - only update the host?

vihostupdate - can do the same thing as VUM and the only difference is that it is a command line interface?

Is there a VMware document that I can read on this.  I ask this because I am preparing for the VCP 4 exam.  At the place I work, we use vSphere 5 and we don't have never upgrade from 3.x to vSphere 4.

Thanks for the pointers and have a nice day.

    Anthony.

Even if the differences are rated you always want to go with the mist release current which the VCP exam covers - so the 4.1 update guide -.

  • Apply all critical updates on a 'ESX Update 1' hosts = "update of ESX 2"?

I applied 'Update 1-Complete' a few guests ESX, which worked well, but then noticed that many critical updates were waiting to apply.   With my Windows Service Pack / Update critical mentaility ceiling, I decided it was a good idea to apply all the critical updates, thinking that this leaves me in the 'day 1' so all available critical updates before the release of "Update 2".  However, after you apply all critical updates, build number seems to be "Update 2"?  I made sure the 2 update was not in the list of patches applied prior to reclamation.  So the question is, apply all the critical updates automatically asks you to a higher level of the major version.  In my case, lifting the crowd of ESX4 update 1 to ESX 4 Update 2?  I need clarification on this because I need to stay in 1 update constraints HCL.

    Thank you!

don't get too confused, there is a bug in 4.0.x but has been fixed in 4.1.  In addition, there is a known issue in vCenter 4.0 base patches U1

  • Update Manager: ESX 4.0 to 4.1

Is it possible to upgrade my ESX host 4.0 to 4.1 with the Server vCenter Update Manager?

No, this package is for the manual upgrade only, and you don't need with Update Manager.

  • Update of ESX 3.5 hosts cluster?

I assigned a cluster with two ESX hosts. VMware, trying to ride on the apprenticeship training. It's time for updates and I want to manually apply to each ESX, not at the level of the cluster. So, I have to disable HA and DRS before put the ESX #1 in maintenance mode and run there to fix it?

    I use the Update Manager.

I don't have to break the cluster, I do?

What is the best practice for this task?

I guess you use VUM since you used the term remedy.  If so, and you have a fully automated installation DRS, decontaminate the cluster.  The first host ESX will migrate all customers to host another host, enter maintenance mode, get patched, reboot and exit maintenance mode.  The process will be the same for the second host.

  • Update Server ESX 4.0

    Hello

    I have ESX 4.0.0 build-164009 and downloaded ESX400 - 200907001.zip. Do I need to install the patch?

I have the file/var/updates on the ESX Server Ed.

    1. esxupdate query

    Installed bulletin ID summary

    1. VMware - v

    VMware ESX 4.0.0 build-164009

    1. Unzip ESX400 - 200907001.zip

    1. LS

    ESXi ESX ESX400 - 200907001.zip metadata.zip

Can somone if you please guide me. Thank you very much

A few commands you can try are:

esxupdate - analysis of beam ESX400 - 200907001.zip - it shows applicable to your server bulletins

esxupdate - ESX400 - 200907001.zip info bundle - this shows details on the ballot within the overall

esxupdate - bundle ESX400 - 200907001.zip - update the < ID newsletter > newsletter - This installs the specified newsletter. The newsletter may be discovered from the first two commands

esxupdate - updated bundle - installs all the ballots inside the whole

esxupdate query - displays the information of installed newsletters

esxupdate info - shows the server hotfix information

VMware - v will still show the same result even after installing the ESX400 - 200907001.zip. To find the version of update server, connect to the server using VI client/VC, which will give the updated version.

    Thank you

  • Update Firmware ESX

I'm updating the PERC6 / I have firmware on our 2950 running ESX 3.5, after installing the update 4, we see is more our status of card and the RAID in Virtual Center.  The first thing I look for is the firmware on the RAID card.  I have the. BIN file Dell (Red Hat), use WinSCP to transfer the file to the TMP directory and run the command. / RAID_FRMW_LX_R216024. BIN and get the permission denied.  I can move in Linux, so and so, but I'm not sure what to do here.  Can someone provide some guidance? Thank you.

    Jason

Have you checked to see if the execute bit is set on the file, after he transferred?  Try this:

    ls - lh . / RAID_FRMW_LX_R216024. BIN

If you see something like this at the beginning:-rw - rr , then the execute bit is not set and can be defined as follows:

    chmod ux. / RAID_FRMW_LX_R216024. BAC +.

Try to run the file again.  If this gives even refused permission, make sure you are root and try again.  If it STILL does not work, see if Dell has a CD image or bootable USB drive that will allow you to apply the firmware.
