I need to apply the following patch, but at the bottom of the KB, I get

To apply patches to ESXi host is via the VMware Update Manager. For more information, see installation and administration of VMware vSphere Update Manager.

What is the typical whatsoever?  is this one?

    Hello

    Is don't know if there is a way to update via settings, but the way I did in the past:

    Verify that the host is in DNS properly. Then just unplug and remove the host of VC. Finally, add using the FULL domain instead of the IP address name.

    Should work fine as long as DNS is correctly configured.

  • How to add a new virtual machine to the ESX host using the existing files?

    I need to implement a function clone without the use of cloneVM_task. I copied (a special copy) a set existing VM Directory Active Directory to a new directory and renamed copied all files prefix name of the new direcotry.  What task VM (reconfigVM_task, createVM_task or registerVM_task) command can I use to add that the new copied VM on the ESX host? I need to manually update the .vmx for new UUID file and other parameters?

    Thanks for any help.

    I think that as long as you have updated all the names to reflect the new clone you must be fine and on the first step, you will be prompted with a question.

  • Call commands on the ESX host using powercli

    Hi all

    I need to run a specific command on some of my esx hosts, let's say "vmware - v", a powercli command, or automate by any means without using SSH.

    I see the invoke-expression command can do this, but I did not need to make it work.

    a syntax such as get-vmhost < hostname >. Invoke-expression-control 'vmware - v"does not work.

    Any ideas how I could do this?

    Thank you!

    I'm afraid that Invoke-Expression is a PowerShell cmdlet that is only intended to run code on the local computer.

    Without using SSH, I suspect that you will have a hard time finding a way to do it.

  • ESX host will not use VMotion

    Hi all

    I have a question maybe someone can help.

    I installed two new ESX hosts in their own cluster, managed by a single data center environment.

    After the installation and updates, adding them to the Cluster environment and adding new licenses to the license server VC.

    I have one of the two ESX host who won't use VMotion. Everything is allowed as should be. But in the section of the Add On to the Configuration of the license, I see the following:

    VMware DRS Licensed for 2 cpu

    VirtualCenter for ESX Server Licensed agent for 2 cpu

    VMotion will not used

    VMware Consolidated Backup for 2 cpu license

    VMware HA under license for 2 cpu

    Additional details:

    Both servers in the cluster are identical hardware profiles: Intel 3.2Gig Xeon, 2 cavities 4 hearts, no HT.

    32Gig of RAM, (Proliant DL380 G5)

    The two servers connected to the SAN via Fibre Chanel Switch, redundant.

    Concert NIC ((VMNic 0 (Console 1), VMNic 1 (Standby adapter), VMNic 2 (Console 2) (the Virtual Machine Network), (VMkernel), (ports of vSwitch 56 none VLAN not defined) VMNic 3 (Standby adapter)).)

    No errors in the Logs of license, the Console message, etc. Everything seems in good health with no update needed.

    Both servers see the unique data store, created on the same SAN which it connects through the switch channel.

    VMFS 3.31.  Unique data store with several extensions (8 in total, the creation of a size of 15 to storage).

    Any ideas?

    All my other hosts using VMotion, but it does not work and there is no difference in configuration, I know.

    Thank you

  • ESX host is listed in DVSwitch, but not in DVportgroups

    Hello

    I have the following in a CLuster (5.5 Vcenter, ESXi hosts 5.1) problem:

    I added a new ESX to the cluster (number 9 of ESX), then added 4 network cards to the DVSwitch (uses the LACP Protocol).

    In this DVSwitch I 2 DVportGroups / tag VLAN

    The problem is the host is listed in the tab "Hosts" in VCenter to level DVSwicth, but do not appear in the DVportgroups tabs (all hosts are listed here but not the last one..)

    vmk0 migrated successfully to the VLAN 1 St... but now, it appears limited to ""... I can migrate to the DVportGroup right... and VCenter says 'ok'... but nothing changes...

    I tried to migrate a virtual machine on the ESX (2nd VLAN) = > VM pings OK...

    So "technically" it works very well... but the ESX does NOT appear as members of DVportGroup.

    The problem appeared when I tried to deploy a vApp (antivirus) on the ESX... I'm stuck at the "select VLANS for the NETWORK card"... There is no VIRTUAL LAN in the list... (because the ESX host is no not part of any dvportgroup..)

    I tried "adding the ESX to the DVportGroup" after having asked for credentials, VCenter says 'ESX is already part of the pole '...

    Someone had this strange behavior?

    What can I do?

    Help!

    Best regards

    S

    I had a similar case, where the hosts have been posted under DVS, but not under DVS exchanges.

    A restart of vCenter Service fixed the problem. However, I was not deploy any TIME or such.

    Hey Shashi,

    If the ESX host is unresponsive defeated VC if you can connect to the host ESX via VI Client, if yes, then the service pass works very well and you need to troubleshoot the service virtual Center on the esx host agent. You many consider them raise all initially with order # service vmware-vpxa restart

    If you are unable to connect to the ESX host using VI Client, restart the service spend using service # mgmt - vmware restart and check the logs # tail f /var/log/vmware/hostd.log check for errors/progress.

    Also look at kb.vmware.com for that matter and you'll find some articles that may help you solve problems.

  • vCenter is virtual server - how to upgrade ESX host?

    Our vCenter server is a virtual server.  I've been thinking how to run update manager on the host ESX, vCenter is sitting on.   The only thing I can think of is to use the VMware Converter stand alone app and move the vCenter server to another ESX host and then start vCenter / Manager Update on the new ESX host to update the original ESX host.

    Is there an easier way?

    you have a shared storage?  If so, go to the host computer running the vCenter VM on, turned off, make a note of the data store that it is, remove the inventory, go to another host, browse the data store, find the vmx file, right-click "add to the inventory.

    .. .or you can use VMware Converter to move the VM vCenter.  Another way would be to turn off the VM vCenter and do the upgrade using the CLI interface.

  • Disconnected ESX host cannot add to the CR

    It started with me being unable to power on a virtual machine that I created because of "Insufficient resources to meet the level of failover configured for HA" which is great because that's how to configure HA.  I tried to reconfigure the AP to the host by double-clicking on the host and select this option.  Once I did that it failed about 30% with "an error has occurred while setting up the HA Agent on the host" and the networking page disappeared from the configuration tab similar to what a lot of people reported during the upgrade, I think an earlier version.  This is not the case, I did not update anything.  Then I restarted service service mgmt-vmware restart and the ESX host disconnected from the VC altogether.  I can't use the VI client to connect to the host in question, but I am connected via the service console. All VM and the host not to requests ping and everything works. I've disabled HA and DRS and tried to add new ESX host that has not worked.

    Any help is appreciated.  Thank you.

  • ESX host SNMP configuration

    I'm about to go crazy trying to understand how to configure snmp on an esx host using Orchestrator.  I see the object for it (VcHostSystem.configManager.snmpSystem), but the value is null when I try to use it.  I used the managed object browser and of course, it appears under the "unplugged" position  The api documentation confirms that this is where I'd go for update this configuration but I can't seem to make this work.  All the research that I show people using one of the line of remote control tools to define.  Can someone help a way that they do with orchestrator?  I guess I could create a workflow that calls for the command-line utils, but that seems barbaric.  I also thought that maybe I could manipulate the XML directly on the host computer, but then again, it seems more like the caveman.  If all goes well, Miss me just something obvious in my attempts to do so.

    Here's my test code:

    var myVcHostSnmpConfigSpec = new VcHostSnmpConfigSpec();
    ro var = new Array;
    trap of var = new Array;
    var destination = new VcHostSnmpDestination();
    destination.Community = "SNMP community";
    destination.hostName = '127.0.0.1 ';
    destination.port = 162;
    RO.push ("read-only");
    Trap.push (destination);
    myVcHostSnmpConfigSpec.enabled = true;
    myVcHostSnmpConfigSpec.readOnlyCommunities = ro;
    myVcHostSnmpConfigSpec.trapTargets = trap;
    System.Debug ("snmpSystem:" + esxHost.configManager.snmpSystem);
    System.Debug ("active snmp?" + esxHost.configManager.snmpSystem.configuration.enabled);
    System.Debug ("read only communities:" + esxHost.configManager.snmpSystem.configuration.readOnlyCommunities);
    System.Debug ("trapTargets:" + esxHost.configManager.snmpSystem.configuration.trapTargets);
    System.Debug ("CS:" + myVcHostSnmpConfigSpec);
    System.Debug ("CS.enabled:" + myVcHostSnmpConfigSpec.enabled);
    System.Debug ("CS.readOnlyCommunities:" + myVcHostSnmpConfigSpec.readOnlyCommunities);
    System.Debug ("CS.trapTargets:" + myVcHostSnmpConfigSpec.trapTargets);
    System.Debug ("CS.trapTargets:" + myVcHostSnmpConfigSpec.trapTargets [0] .community);
    System.Debug ("CS.trapTargets:" + myVcHostSnmpConfigSpec.trapTargets [0] .hostName);
    System.Debug ("CS.trapTargets:" + myVcHostSnmpConfigSpec.trapTargets [0] .port);
    esxHost.configManager.snmpSystem.reconfigureSnmpAgent (myVcHostSnmpConfigSpec);

    This seems to be one or the other of these unfortunate ESXi features that can be managed through a vCenter. So, for each host that you want to manage, you must import the SSL certificate and add the host to the vCO so that such changes. Based on my test script manually to add the SSL certificate and the facilitator to my server of vCO I could set the SNMP parameters as you coded above.

  • Determine which user added an ESX host to vCenter

    I'm trying to figure out if there is anyway to determine which user has added a vCenter ESX host using the api.  I don't see this information as any sort of property of the host object.  Any help would be appreciated!

    Paul

    You can retrieve this and other events by using the event manager and the queryEvents() - http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-50/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.vmware.wssdk.apiref.doc_50%2Fvim.event.EventManager.html

    There is no property associated with a host ESX (i) on which the user added to vCenter and since it seems that you are interested in a specific host ESX (i), which can help narrow down the query.

    Attached, that is, remove / add a vSphere SDK for Perl script that will return the user who added the host to vCenter, you should get a response because it uses the Ref object managed the host ESX (i) and that changes each time you have.

    Here is an example of course:

    ./findUserAddHost.pl--serveur root vcenter50-4 - vihost - vesxi50 - 3.primp username - industries.com
    Enter the password:
    added root host vesxi50 - 3.primp - industries.com to datacenter datacenter2

  • How to find VCenter which manages the ESX host

    Hi all

    Is it possible to query ESX host using API to determine if it is autonomous or managed host and if it's a managed - what VCenter (name, IP address) actually runs it. I know it's easy to VCenter query to find all the hosts its handles, but I need to go the other way.

    Thank you

    Yes, you can query for the http://vijava.sourceforge.net/vSphereAPIDoc/ver5/ReferenceGuide/vim.host.Summary.html managementServerIp if defined, then it is managed by a server vCenter Server, this is the only information on the vCenter Server and assuming you have DNS, you can get the FULL of the IP domain name
