  Have you tried right-clicking on the link for the pdf files, download them and then using the file > open within the drive itself?

  It's a problem with the pdf file encoded in ascii email program when it is really binary. The way around this problem is the zip file or use a different e-mail program or to change the method of encoding if possible.
