Everytime I turn on my laptop, I get the message Windows updater.exe is not found.  No particular reason why this suddenly started happening and it's something I should be concerned?  I always manually go to the Windows Update in the list programs, then see that my laptop has been updated, and is not in need, but I want to know why I keep getting this message and what it is.

  • Updater.exe

Whenever I restart my PC, a window pops up that says "Windows cannot find"Updater.exe".  Make sure you typed the name corrrectly, and then try again.  I checked the Task Manager and the registry, but can't find what is trying to pull up the program.  Some attempts to correct them (Windows Installer Cleanup Utlitilty) tells me that they cannot run because I'm not an administrator - but I'm - I'm the only profile on the PC.   I ran antivirus and uninstalled/reinstalled Adobe Acrobat, software that did not work properly.  Is it a virus or an error?

Even if you are an administrator on your machine, by design, all users run with Standard user privileges.  To get extra privileges, if you are not offered them via a prompt for user access control, you need to maybe right-click on the .exe and look for the option "run as Administrator".  This is referred to as running with elevated privileges.

  • Pavilion dv7... How to block programs requesting access to the computer (updater.exe)

The HP firewall intervenes and asks if I want to accept or deny programs requesting access to the laptop... it's good... but a Trojan horse (updater.exe) after I deny access, comes back every 15 minutes... 5 or 6 active applications if ignored... tired to prohibit access... is there a way HP firewall can be programmed to block these requests of programs known as this malware... thx dudman13

    Hi Dudley,

This can help identify which application has generated this message.

Start Notepad and let Windows load completely.  Hold down the Windows key and press R.  For the run box, type msconfig and press ENTER.  In the next window, click the Startup tab, uncheck the box next to each startup item and then click on apply to apply the change.  Reboot the laptop and let it run long enough to see if the message no longer appears.  Reactivate a substantive point both (your security software would be a good first choice), click on apply and restart, then check if the message now.  Keep doing this until you encounter the message following if poster again and you will know that the last program that you define to start is the cause.

I would like to know what program it is.

    Kind regards

Sorry, updater.exe is not Firefox itself, something else began this process.

Firefox checks the updates the module as it is launched and checks the availability of an update for Firefox, about 5 minutes after the launch. or use a separate update process, they run the process firefox.exe.

I wouldn't trust this file. The Firefox configuration file will have a name similar to "Firefox Setup 3.6.9.exe" and you should only download it directly from Mozilla. This site is not part of Mozilla.

    Hello

Do you use products by AnalogWay? They use a program named for updates.

    AnalogWay
    http://www.analogway.com/technical_support/remotecontrolsoftware.php

If necessary the search of the program and see if its location provides all useful information. Also right-click on
TI tab - properties - retail - all useful information there?

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------

Probably put in the startup programs.

For XP using RUN - MSCONFIG Startup tab

    For Vista or Windows 7

Start - type in the search box-> find MSCONFIG in top - right click on the start - RUN AS ADMIN tab.

Autoruns - free - see what programs are configured so that it starts automatically when
your system boots and you connect. Autoruns also shows you the complete list of the registry
and where applications can configure Auto-start for the files settings.
