Sort by name results in wrong order

When sorting by name in windows Explorer, the files are not correctly sorted.  To reproduce, create the following files, and then sort them by name.

1a.txt
1B.txt
11 txt
12 txt
2A.txt

When the files are sorted by name, the file named "2a.txt" is placed between "1b.txt" and 11 ".txt" when it should be placed at the end of the list after "12.txt '.

How can I fix?

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/319827 :

1. click on start, run, type regedit, and then click OK.

2. use one of the following methods, depending on your situation:

To configure the policy for all users of the computer, locate and then click the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

To configure the policy for the current user, locate and then click the following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Currentversion\Policies\Explorer

3. on the Edit menu, point to new and then click DWORD value

4 type NoStrCmpLogical, and press ENTER.

5. on the Edit menu, click on change.

6. to set the order of sort that you want to use for files and folders whose names contain numerals, use one of the following methods, depending on your situation:

To configure Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 to use the method used by Windows 2000 for sorting files and folders, in the value data box, type 1, and then click OK.

To configure the default Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 method for sorting files and folders in the value data box, type 0, and then click OK.

Note When NoStrCmpLogical value does not exist or when it is set to 0 (zero), the Windows XP default sort order is used.

7. exit the registry editor and then restart the computer.

You want the first option 6.

  • Items 11 sort by name does not always by name sort

If I choose sort by: name, MOST of the footage is correctly sorted by file name, but some are not.

All my files are named YYYYMMDD #, but still (for example) in this view just now, I have three files that begin with 20150317 who are sorting BEFORE pictures with names of files 20150101...  Then everything goes as planned, until after the place in the sequence where these photos SHOULD be sequentially.

At the end of the sort, I have similar problems.  If the sequence ends with (for example) 20140414..., there will also be pictures with names like 20150317 AFTER that.

It makes no sense at all.  The system simply cannot be really sorting by file name and have this result.  He got using the metadata of some sort, not the file name.

I looked at the properties/metadata advanced and there seems not to be difference between files that sort correctly and those that appear in the order.

    What is the problem?

Just to update this in the case where someone else has a similar problem.

    First of all, I said.  I'm 12, not 11.

With that, I have all the choices of menu on the right for "sort by name", but when I did, it did not correct the sort order.  A very small fraction of what I had in the catalogue (maybe 1%) persisted in sorting by some unknown criteria.  Display meta-data or files properties are not all the differences between the files that have been sorting "out of sequence" and those who were.

At some point, something thought had corrupted the catalog (I have a lot of files, who knows..) I "fixed" and then "optimized" catalog.  No change.

Ultimately what I did (just to 'try something') was to remove the catalog for these files entry (not real files) and then re - scan this folder.  Elements Organizer "found" once again the files and imported into the catalog.  After that, they now appear correctly, sorted by file name, in the thumbnail view (per folder).

Then. Whatever it is, it has been resolved in this way.  We'll see if it comes back again now.

    Thank you!

  • My smart playlist sort by release date in ascending order

    Hello

I have a 7th generation iPod nano, the version of the software 1.0.4. Synchronize all all the podcasts of the nano unplayed episodes. I also sync a smart playlist that includes episodes of a number of podcasts I listen to. I want to have podcasts on this sorted list according to the date of output in ascending order, so I'm always hear older podcasts to the most recent. For some reason, the iPod nano will not sort podcasts in ascending order and sort in descending order, from the most recent to the oldest.

In iTunes, under my Podcasts, I have all my podcasts listed by release date in ascending order, from oldest to newest.

In iTunes, under playlists, I have all my podcasts listed by release date in ascending order, from the oldest to the newest, and smart playlist is also sorted by release date ascending, from the oldest to the newest.

In iTunes, under devices-> iPod Nano-> Podcasts, each of the podcasts on the device is ordered by release date in ascending order, from oldest to newest.

In iTunes, under devices-> iPod Nano-> [name of smart playlist], smart playlist is sorted by release date in ascending order, from oldest to newest.

When I go to the machine and select Podcasts-> [name of the individual podcast], each of the podcasts is sorted by release date in ascending order, from oldest to newest.

When I go to the machine and select music->-> [name of smart playlist] Playlists, episodes are sorted by release date in the ORDER SORTED by most RECENT to THE OLDEST.

I restored the iPod nano (twice), and this did not affect the sort order.

Can someone suggest something else I could try to get the podcasts to sort correctly?

    See you soon,.

    Hussar

Well, I was able to work through this on my own. I disabled the "Sync Podcasts" block and sync had the nano, by removing all the podcasts of the device. I then re-checked the block "Sync Podcasts" and sync'd. Now, when I go to music-> [name of smart playlist]-> Playlists, episodes are sorted correctly, from the oldest to the newest, and several episodes that had previously denied same sync are now present.

I'm fairly certain, however, that's not the way this is supposed to work.

  • How to reset browser save as download dialog box to sort by name?

When I save a file which I am downloading Internet Explorer or Opera, a save dialog box under opens. Ordinarily, the folders and files in this box are listed in alphabetical order. Recently, they have been down. The order seems random, but it seems that the most recently viewed files/folders are listed last. I can right-click and then click rearrange icons by---> name to the names of folders and files in alphabetical order. I have to do it every time.

Is there a way to reset something in the windows, then the default will be for the folders and files to be sorted by name, when I first open the dialog box save as?

    I am running XP SP3, IE 8.0, Opera 11.01.

I am trying to sort my files strictly by name when I press 'name' not of type file, and then by name alias is the same thing by clicking on sort by type. Can you please explain to me how not to sort by name, regardless of the type.

    Hello

Looks like you're in a library folder.

The options you choose may depend on what type of files are in the folder. If you are in a file optimized for photos, you can see the different options available in a file optimized for Documents.

Alphanumeric sorting in an images folder, select the folder in the menu arrange by.

Just above the menu arrange by, click the drop-down Options menu, and then select Details.

Now you have columns, name, Date, label, size, etc.

Click the upper part of the column name to sort by name. Whenever you click on the top of the column, reverse the order. You can do the same thing with any of the other columns.

In a file optimized for the Documents, it is substantially the same, except that the list in the menu arrange by is different. Simply click name in the list and details in the Options menu.

Outside the libraries, in the normal files, such as images of C:\Users\yourname\My. You will see no the menu reorganization, only the View Menu. Simply select the details to get the named columns.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

Thank you for using Windows 7

  • Sort by name in Mail went (new)

An old bug in Mail is back with Sierra:

Yosemite has no sorting by name in Mail

"most people see mail sorted by date, as I was.  But sometimes I want to see all messages from a particular sender.  All previous versions of mail allowed you simply click on any mail in the Inbox and then click on the tab "Sort by name" at the top to see all [email] sorting by name, starting with the selected email.  Now in Yosemite, instead of beginning with the selected email, it's rather starting to 'A' or 'Z' ignoring the email selected. »

This is a very basic feature is a database that lists the records and it's annoying that it does not work in the Sierra.

Use the search option 1). Enter its name in the search box. Select from. Make sure that all is selected in the Favorites bar.

Option 2) select the name of the person in an e-mail. Mouse over the email. You will see an arrow down.  Select Add to VIP. This is all the emails from this person. After finishing, remove the VIPs.

  • What should I do when iTunes post TV episodes in the wrong order

I know it seems like an easy task. But what I do when iTunes TV post TV episodes in the wrong order.  I know that this seems to be a first world problem of the same (and it is) but showing bad episodes out of order is so infuriating.  And I paid $ first world over it.  Apple iTunes Australia displayed the 6 episodes of the ITV television series "Lewis" - twice MORE than two episodes 5 and 6.  I know now who is the murderer - I don't know who was murdered. I paid for the series. And I paid for it in the right order.  And... I saved these episodes so that I could enjoy together.  Now my night was ruined.  And you are right - no one died (except in the series, of course), but I don't want to let this pass.  The issue of small things. My annoyance issues!. He does.  And I paid for a product that I did not.  I called Apple support, not because personally, I want to get repair, but because no one should have to have the same experience that I had, and it should fix it, quickly, not in another 24 or 48 hours when someone (for the content provider fix it because according to apple, it's their fault) gets finally around him. When is watching a murder mystery - when the murder is solved before the murder.  VERY ANNOYING. I'm certainly not alone?
