Space mgmt on Macbook Air 13 "

I own a macbook air to 120 GB and save all the files, photos, videos and music on an external hard drive of 1 TB.  I'm surprised that I have only 7 GB of space on my mac.  What could be taken from so much space and how to fix it?

If you download and install OmniDiskSweeper, it will show you the files and folders that use the most space on your Mac.

The first step you need to do before you start any project to clean up disk space is a full backup of everything.

  • How to use the library of small Photos on the MacBook Air

I'm running out of space on my MacBook Air, and I prefer to store all my original photo in iCloud. How to keep the photo library on my Mac to the size of the strict minimum. Thank you.

Are you already using iCloud photo library or you want to turn your photo into a photo library of iCloud library?

To save storage on your Mac, select iCloud in the pictures library > Preferences > iCloud. also turn on "Optimize Mac Storage" in this Panel.

Photos will replace originals in your library of optimized versions. But this process is dynamic. If you are short on storage, it will replace original more optimized versions. So, it will take some time, until your photo library becomes smaller. You cannot influence this process.

A way to shrink the photo library immediately, is radical enough: wait until the first download of your photos is complete and all the pictures are on iCloud.  Make a current backup of your photo library by copying to an external drive.

Then delete the photo library on your internal drive. Launch photos while holding down the key options and create a new empty library. This library in your system photo library and activate iCloud photo library with optimization of the storage.

Now, all your photos will download as optimized versions and the library will be much smaller from the start.  However, it has some drawbacks.  Thumbnails of faces will be lost, also all of your projects. • Can I reset my MacBook Air and restore the backup I made before to reduce others' storage space?

    Hello

so I have the 126 GB MacBook Air. My problem is that the other takes 87 GB!

I guess this could work, but I'm afraid something away...

There is nothing necessarily wrong with 'other' as long it's documents, etc. that you need.

  • MacBook Air missing hard drive space

I noticed that the free space on the hard drive on my Macbook Air has been quickly disappear even if I had not been adding lots of new files, certainly not enough to account for the 10s of gigabytes that disappeared last week. I cleaned it of useless media files, which gives him another 20 GB of space. The status bar it reflects accurately at first, but when I started the computer this morning, it had lost 30 GB of this adjustment.

After you run WhatSize DaisyDisk, I see that they have both claim that my Air uses Go 296, which is in agreement with the about this Mac, but when you look at the size of the actual folders, there is no way that they measure is added to this amount.

Using Get Info, I got the following:

    14.43 applications gb

    Users 42,45

    System of 7.77

    Library of 8.95

That all adds up to about 74 GB of used space. WhatSize actually gives me different numbers. Where in the world are the other 220 or so lack of gbs? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

(Note: although I typed this out, I noticed that about 8 GB of free space have disappeared in the status bar)

Here are a few screenshots of WhatSize and disk utility. Of THE claims that 'other' includes 283 GB, but I can't understand what is included in whatever measure it as 'other '.

  • How to sync the iPhone to a Macbook Air 128 GB without taking up space?

    Hello

I just bought a MacBook Air 128 GB flash drive.

I can't afford to buy the 256 GB so settle for 128 gb.

Can I know if I use the MacBook Air to sync my iPhone 64 GB using iTunes, the entire contents of my handphone be copied in the drive of the MacBook Air?  If so, then very soon my MacBook Air runs from storage...

Is it possible to synchronize in an external HARD disk?

    Thank you

You can exclude media files (photos, music, movies, etc.) synchronization and back up only the basic data. This backup will seize one to two gigabytes of storage.

You can also save on iCloud and forget to connect your iPhone to iTunes.

More information on creating backups can be found here: How to backup your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch - Apple Support.

  • Enabling iCloud library fills a storage capacity on macbook air

So I try to upload my pictures on iCloud to free up storage on my Macbook air.  Besides the fact that this process seems to take forever, I noticed when it goes I'm actually losing space on my hard drive.  This caused the upload stop and gives me the error message indicating that I have no more space on my hard drive and the process cannot continue.  I made sure the storage parameter optimize is on so that I do not download originals to iCloud.  Also, when I turn off iCloud, I don't have storage space.  So I have the feeling that anything that is uploaded is downloaded several times.

So my question is what is being downloaded, and how to delete to free up more space on my hard drive?

The use of the photo library of iCloud frees space on your Mac, it uses the same space, as it would if you do not use. So if you don't have enough space on your Mac to fit photos, you'll have enough space to use the photo library.

    Try another service for storage.

  • Video of the MacBook Air to accuse by unplugged (current running off battery)

Hello. I have a Macbook Air from 2012. The Macbook works perfectly fine when it is plugged, but the minute I unplug the unit, some video that I might be streaming suddenly freezes, even if sometimes the audio is not yet. Weird. The battery works, even if it runs in less than an hour. It has a cycle of 657 counter. The battery health is diagnosed as being 'good '. Anyone know why this is happening and what I can do about it?

    Thank you.

Apparently, the MacBook Air is electric rationing of the battery through the

all of the GPU, CPU, free wireless internet, open, applications and requirements

Mac OS x itself; so many invisible things are underway in the background.

Have you looked into the specifications of profile of electrical system and battery

where the status of the battery is spelled in milli-ampere-hour charge remaining

    and expected full load capacity?

I imagine that the battery can be replaced; also if SSD drive

is full of stored content, the effort it takes the system to find the space

for swap files and read/write then in the storage disk, is your MB/Air tax.

Maybe an upgrade of the hard drive (SSD) ability is something to check

in (if it is possible to upgrade) or just be sure to not have much stored on board.

A replacement may be obtained from the macsales, OWC, among others.
