Splitting the system partition?

Hello

I have two physical hard drives. Currently, each disk has a basic partition. The first detected disk has the C partition and the second disc has the partition (E) Windows XP is installed on E.

I want to divide the C partition into two partitions. As far as I know, I have to delete the C partition and make two new partitions. I have all the data in c supported partition E if this isn't the problem. When I opened the disk management software, I realized the C partition is marked as a system partition and I can't remove it.

Is there a way I can split this system partition?

You need third party software. There are several choices, such as Partition Magic.

  • Size of the problems after the system partition resizing - are X 201 hard drives using a particular geometry?

    I recently copied my default system hard disk (320 GB / Western Digital) on a larger hard drive (500 GB / Hitachi) which I also ordered through Lenovo.

    Using a disk imager I first copied the old 1:1 the new disk drive. It gave me an exact copy of my original disk, with about 150 GB of space disk unallocated at the end of the training. I then put this copy in the system and it worked very well, I could start and work at it.

    -With the help of Acronis Disk Director 11 - I moved the hidden partition Lenovo restore to the end of the new drive, and then finally I expanded the system partition to fill all the available space before this recovery partition, giving me a system about 430 GB drive.

    These operation seemed to go very well at everything first, but in the end I got an alert that something had gone wrong and now the disk may be corrupted. Strange, I was able to boot from the disk and everything went well in the beginning but in fact - I now have a very weird problem: when you look in the Panel-online-online disk management management system all partitions are located and that I had the intention of size. The recovery partition (~ 17 GB) is at the end and the system partition is indicated as approximately 430GB and about 60% vacuum. Explorer Windows, however, always reports the size of the old partition (~ 280 GB) and only 10% of empty space, while if there is no resizing the partition space taken.

    In other words: different parts of Windows 'see' and report to different partition sizes. Running chkdsk does not resolve the issue.

    I then realized this phenomenon in the Acronis Disk Director forum and some guys Acronis replied, that problems of resizing and therefore also the difference could be due to the fact that IBM/Lenovo uses a geometry to non-standard head of 240 heads instead of 255 heads. ????  I then asked for details and - if possible - instructions - how we could solve this problem, but got no further response so far.

    Any idea what he's talking about? Lenovo indeed uses some non-standard disk or geometry? I would have thought, that the access disk is the disk drivers? Lenovo have to do here? Or BIOS of the device involved here?

    And finally: has anyone some experience with this problem and can give an idea how to solve this problem? I'd really like to * hate * restart everywhere have to reformat the hard drive and reinstall everything again!

  • Win 7 Pro, FX6100, 8 GB of ram, 250 GB ssd; cannot find the system partition

    Basics are there.  It blocks from the tent to set up partitions.  I am giving all of the 250 GB SSD to use as seems it and it is just lost.  It does work with no partitions, partition of the entire disk.  He didn't tell me what he wants.  And error messages make no sense.

    They are like: (and my response)

    cannot find the system partition (do a stupid)
    Can not find the installation partition (crikey, I gave you the entire disk, make one)

    Talk about mega-frustration.  How about a useful error message and some useful ways to respond.

    >:-((

    If the ssd is not recognized in the first part of the installation process, as a location to install win on, you need to check the manual of the card mother about all the necessary bios for its port settings, or weather, you need to install any third-party disk controller.

    And if it's a new ssd, must not contain any partition table, unless you have prepared this ssd when you started in one of your other installations win, that can be part of your problem.

  • Perform a restore of the system partition

    Okay, I need some help here! I'm trying to clean up old e-system laptop, 3213 M430 CPU daughter, 1 GB RAM, 40 GB HARD drive to pass it on to his brother. It's over the years, the system got clogged and need of resettlement carried out to clean it.

    I'm having is, she never performed any restore points and never made a recovery disk! Tried to do a software disc using TechGuys, but he says Power2Go not loaded. Software loaded but product key on the underside of the laptop and can no longer be read!

    Therefore impossible to create the recovery disk, then after having a second account (just in case something goes wrong with the original), I tried to start a destructive restore loaded partition (wipe it clean and start again from fees)

    Start using F8, select system repair wait a while starts to Vista loading screen then get a screen asking 'another user '! Now what should I do? Don't know what the other user, only thought that there were two accounts on the system. Daughter doesn't remember all accounts created on this subject, can not find any reference to the "Other user" screen in the manual.

    Anyone have any idea what this means and what I am supposed to do next please? As I have things left to try now. Fingers crossed someone understands what I mean and how to go beyond that. Maybe I'm coming to this from the wrong angle and there is an easier way to clean the machine. If you please feel free to advise me.

    Kind regards

  • Defragmentation of damage to the System Partition?

    As I understand it, the partition system for refers to the system disk always displayed at the bottom of the list of Disk Defragmenter in Windows 7.

    Years, I read a few posts that said including the system disk in defrag tracks caused no change in System one way or another.  Therefore, it is included in all my defrags, and he grew a little whenever I did.  Now, it is 54%.

    Am I understand that growth of defragmentation displayed is only just the growth in the number of System Restore Points I accumulate over time between the defragmentations?  If so, am I causing repairable damage to the partition System reserved ?

    I don't think you do any damage, but it is not advisable to always try to modify this disc with the tools, not even defrag (given that the contents of the drive does not change, it cannot break in any case).

  • Problem with hard drive 3 TB and the need to delete the system partition reserved

    I am running Windows 7, 64-bit version.  have another hard disk of 500 GB and I bought a 3 TB hard drive and installed windows 7 on it (3 TB) fine.  But to finish install and found 3 TB hard drive showed only 2 TB of usable disk space.  does a job at home and found that before 2011, the bios of the motherboard can only support HD up to 2 TB, and in order to use all 3 to, I need to convert to GPT disk.  To do this, I need to remove the volume, but since I installed windows 7 more early, he created a score 'system reserved', I can't delete or edit, or format.  All boards to complete this (converted to GPT disk) so I can use all 3 TB of HD?   Now, I re installed windows 7 on my other drive.

    Any advice on how to convert to GPT disk without deleting the system reserved partition?

    Thank you all... Finally figure it out.  Just in case where any who need it going forward... and

    That's what I did

    Step 1.  start by using the windows installation disc 7, press SHIFT + F10 when the language pop up page, use the diskpart... command to remove the system reserved partition. and turn off the computer.

    Step 2.  Open the computer case and unplug the 3 TB hd of the motherboard by unplug the SATA her cable.

    Step 3.  Re-install windows 7, turn off the computer when done

    Step 4.  re - connect the 3 TB - DD and closed the case and power on the computer

    Step 5.  Disk management can use GPT disk.

    A lot of work, but finally did.

  • This PC cannot run that Windows 8 is not enough freespace on the system partition

    I just downloaded the upgrade of Windows 8. The process to achieve assesses your PC and tells you that Windows 8 will run on this issue. Then you buy it and download it. Well, when I create installation media (USB key) and try to run Setup it tells me that my system partition is not big enough.  I have 70 GB free on the system disk. It is a 128 GB SSD.  How 70 GB is not enough space to install the upgrade of Windows 8.  Can someone help me with this error?  I tried the cat at Microsoft screens, but they are too busy.

    Not enough space - there is not enough space on the computer.

    You must enable the service of virtual disk before you perform the upgrade, if you encounter this error.

    1. press Windows + R and type SERVICES. MSC

    2. search for the virtual disk Service

    3. right click and choose 'properties '.

    4. make sure that the Startup Type is automatic, and then click the Start button.

    5 reboot and try the upgrade again.

    Your question has been answered, but it may be worth mentioning that split time can vary a lot. If your share point is a value greater than the value present in the table (so that the new partition "maxvalue" is empty) then oracle just create a new empty partition. he split is less than the current high value oracle must create two new partitions and copy all the data before you delete the old partition. This means that the break starts with a complete analysis of the score - during which the existing partition.

  • Creating image of the system partition to a new hard drive FACTORY_IMAGE

    Sorry if this has been posted before...

    The neighbor in its Pavilion's hard drive is dying. I can access all the files on the partition FACTORY_IMAGE, but not the primary partition because of hard drive problems. He did not make a recovery DVD/CD set. I have the drive plugged into another computer. Is it possible to recreate the DVD recovery since the FACTORY_IMAGE partition with the damaged main partition and hard disk in another PC? I am aware that he can order replacement from HP discs, but it would be nice to slap a new hard drive in this weekend and bring it to the top and running. Thank you.

    He has proved to be easier to reintall windows, then the drivers from scratch.

  • Best way to split the large partition to few smaller

    Hello

    I have Oracle 11.2 EE on Redhat 5.9 and I need to solve the problem with partitioning.

    A few tables of some system has been prepared for partitioning a few years ago. But no partitioning was done and all these tables / global index have only one partition for all data.

    Now, we have a lot of tables and indexes with a single partition (with limit MAXVALUE) for all data. I would like to divide this large partition to smaller partitions more by quarter of the year.

    Example:

    Existing partition that d0201_2008_1q must be split at D0201_2008_2Q, D0201_2008_3Q... MYTABLE_2014_4Q of column DATE/NUMBER

    I tried to generate a script for sharing partitions

    ALTER INDEX I_D0201 CHANGE DEFAULT TABLESPACE INDX_2008_1Q ATTRIBUTES;

    ALTER TABLE SPLIT PARTITION D0201_2008_1Q AT (1000456) D0201

    INTO (PARTITION D0201_2008_XX TABLESPACE DATA_2008_1Q, PARTITION D0201_MAX1) 16 PARALLELS;

    ALTER TABLE D0201 CHANGE THE D0201_2008_XX REBUILD UNUSABLE LOCAL INDEX PARTITION;

    ALTER INDEX I_D0201 CHANGE DEFAULT TABLESPACE INDX_2008_2Q ATTRIBUTES;

    ALTER TABLE SPLIT PARTITION D0201_MAX1 AT (1000547) D0201

    INTO (PARTITION D0201_2008_2Q TABLESPACE DATA_2008_2Q, PARTITION D0201_MAX2) 16 PARALLELS;

    ALTER TABLE D0201 CHANGE THE D0201_2008_2Q REBUILD UNUSABLE LOCAL INDEX PARTITION;

    ALTER INDEX I_D0201 CHANGE DEFAULT TABLESPACE INDX_2008_3Q ATTRIBUTES;

    ALTER TABLE SPLIT PARTITION D0201_MAX2 AT (1000639) D0201

    INTO (PARTITION D0201_2008_3Q TABLESPACE DATA_2008_3Q, PARTITION D0201_MAX3) 16 PARALLELS;

    ALTER TABLE D0201 CHANGE THE D0201_2008_3Q REBUILD UNUSABLE LOCAL INDEX PARTITION;

    ...

    It separates great score to two new partitions. One of them is the next quarter and secondly will separate again.

    Some partitions have a few GB and splitting takes a long time (hours for a split partition) and big disk space is also required.

    New partitions will be smaller, but first 2008_1Q partition size will be unchanged, and I'll need to reclaim the unused space somehow.

    You have a better/more rapid solution of ideas?
