SQL Transaction Log Corruption since upgrade to vSphere 6.0

Since we have upgraded to vSphere 6.0, we've received damaged trans errors in the log while taking transactions log backups of a SQL instance running on a virtual machine. The SQL error message is: backup detected corruption newspaper in the Department database. Context is arglist. LogFile: 2 "F:\Sqldata\Department_log.ldf" I can work around this problem by assigning to the DB SQL mode to Simple recovery, then again in full and taking a new backup complete, followed by a backup of logfile trans did it restart the chain. This error happens every night and seems to be launched by our nightly VM-level backups taken by CommVault who takes a snapshot, supports the VMDk and then deletes the snapshot. However, I can reproduce this problem without our backup solution by a storage vMotion followed of a backup in SQL of the transaction logs that will be error with trans log corruption. It was non-existent before the upgrade to vSphere 6.0 5.5. I have ensured that the VM tools are updated as well as the hardware version of the virtual machine. I hope someone has an idea of what could happen here because I am confused and would not go back to vSphere 5.5.

Get your vSphere 6.0 servers patched as soon as POSSIBLE.

The same thing happens to us, we had several SQL Server databases that have been become corrupted.

This is a known issue with vSphere 6.0 that has since been corrected (I think it was related to snapshots and CBT).  The latest patch for vSphere 6.0/build is "ESXi, 6.0.0 2809209.

Can an added custom similar to the rule of Sybase TransLog:

    (#tl_space_used_pct # > = f4registry ("DatabaseSpaceTLUsedWarning")) & (scope.get ("temp_db") == "NO") & (scope.get ("auto_extend") == "NO") & (scope.get ("alert_on") == 'YES')

    Hi Paul,.

There are 2 rules for this-

1-dynamic Log File growths remaining (when the log file cannot grow more due to the capacity of the file system)

  • The upgrade to vSphere + SQL Express to SQL 2005 + new vCenter Server

    Hello world

It's the scénarion that I have today:

A node just two HA/DRS cluster with vCenter 2.5 update 4 and two esx 3.5 update 4.

The environment has increased enough to move from SQL Express to SQL 2005 standard. In the process, I want to upgrade the environment to vSphere and the vCenter move another box.

I'm quite familiar with the process of vSphere upgrade but I donít know how to move the vCenter to another machine AND I do not know how to go from Express to the standard version of SQL in the process. (I have a SQL machine ready for use)

I do not know how to handle all the changes here, I thought it would be nice to all move to the new machine and DB so that I could continue with the upgrade to vSphere, if this has meaning or not, I'm waiting for your ideas.

I hope someone will give me some guidance on moving from SQL Express to SQL and how to move vCenter to another server (of course with a different server name and IP address)

Thanks in advance for your support.

I just did something very similar a few Sundays ago and it was really easy.  Refer to the section of the Upgrade Guide that talks about upgrading to vCenter on another Machine... (starts at p. 49).  We went from SQL 2003 32 bits on 32-bit Windows 2003 to SQL 2005 64-bit on Windows 2008 R2 64-bit.  Both are running as VMs - vCenter 2.5 is still there only as a license server - until I get all my hosts upgraded.

  • Printing problems HP PSC 1210 since upgrading to Windows 7

    Hello

Unfortunately, I have major problems since upgrading my PSC 1210 previously hassle to Windows 7 Professional (32 bit) on a Dell Latitude laptop.

    1. connect the USB cable from the system causes to restart almost 100% of the time. (Start with her already plugged the same result.) If it restarts not who does not necessarily mean that it will print. Although the USB connection is identified, the document does not print and gets stuck in the queue; by selecting either restart or cancel in the print queue does not delete it. Or turn off and unplug the printer. I have to restart my computer for him to clear, but it still doesn't work. Also, it gets stuck when I choose to print directly to the printer. More recently, I've only managed to print after closing of all the HP of the process in the Task Manager. (The same problem with restarting forced to plug in the USB cable happens sometimes when the analysis rather than printing).

    2. on the occasions I manage to do print documents, does not print black cartridge, despite having just replaced the cartridge and the perflecty black print on the test page.

I hope you can help because it's incredibly frustrating and tedious, and I really prefer is not to have to replace what was until what Windows 7 a perfectly good printer!

    Thank you

    Olivia

Welcome to the Forums of HP savemysanity,

I see by your post that when the connection of the USB cable, the computer restarts, the print jobs stuck in the queue since the upgrade to Windows 7, the black is not printing from applications, but prints black on the self-test page. I can help you with this.

Run all the updates of Windows on the computer. Updates Windows Installer in Windows 7

I have provided a document through the steps to see if this will solve the problem.

Print jobs are stuck in the print queue.

Download and run the Print and Scan doctor. It will diagnose the problem and could solve it automatically.

Run the System File Checker. This utility allows users to analyze and restore corrupted Windows system files.

System File Checker: run sfc/scannow & analyze its logs in Windows 7 | 8.

The chkdsk command or "Check Disk" utility is used in Windows to browse your entire hard drive and find problems.

    Run the Chkdsk utility.

Try another port on the computer and another USB cable just to exclude.

If the problem persists, would completely uninstall and reinstall the printer software.

    Uninstalling the printer software.

Installation of the software of the printer in Windows 7 for a USB cable connection.

There is no driver to download, drivers are drivers from Windows Update.

What operating system go you to?

If you need help, let me know.

    Good day!
    Thank you.

  • after upgrade to vsphere 5 - email does not send

    Hi all

with vsphere 4 and ghettovcb, I had no problem in using the experimental feature of sending the mails after backup completion.

Now after the upgrade to vsphere 5 and upgraded ghettovcb in the mail last version (esxi 5 incl. support), sent to the internal mail server lacks.

    Nothing else was changed.

    Error:

Anything I could provide or check to fix this or help in any resolution?

Can you check to see if the firewall is on, what's new with ESXi 5 and make sure that port 25 is open.

  • For the 'VIM_VCDB' database transaction log is full

We live the error, as shown in the subject.

The problem is that we continue the expansion of the log file.

We have 3 servers esx 4.1 and about 25 of the virtual machines running on these servers.

    The statistics are at:

    5 minutes - 1 day - level 1

    30 minutes - week 1 - level 1

    2 hours - 1 month - level 1

    1 day - 1 year - 1 level.

Database size check indicates that it should be about 0.5 GB with our configuration.

We have already extended 4 times since our migration to vcenter 4.1 decembre2010 to half way and now it's 4.3 GB.

Reduce the log with the unused space do not clean anything.

Anyone experienced this and has another tip, instead of extending once again?

Don't worry, with the recovery model not set to 'Simple', no transaction log is written.

If you wish, you can compare the settings and the size of the log of your vCenter database, because it is probably set to 'Simple' too.

  • Upgrade to VSphere, from ESX3.5 to 4.1

I wanted to see if anyone out there has had experiences that you want to share in what concerns the upgrade to vsphere esx3.5. Traps, precautions and things you would have done differently in hindsight. We are in the process of upgrading and wanted to have an idea of what could be a problem and what to be aware of.  We do not have a test environment that I can try this upgrade, then it is an upgrade of the production and I'm very cautious and careful.

    Thank you

    Shawn Smith

I just finished upgrading a cluster of very large from ESX 3.5 to ESXi 4.1. First step was to upgrade vCenter, who has been somewhat complicated by the fact that I had to go from a 32-bit host to a new 64-bit host. Detach the database from a stand-alone server to SQL 2005, then to attach to a host of cluster SQL 2008 has been an easy victory, as he provided us with resilient layer of database. Then I let vCenter 4.1 run with the host ESX 3.5 for a week or two, to prove the cross-compatibility.

I chose to do a clean install of ESXi 4.1 on each host. It could have been much longer than other methods, but I felt it was the best in the long term. This involved: removing host ESX 3.5 of the cluster, install ESXi 4.1 and all the drivers and the HP management bundles and join this new ESXi 4.1 host in the cluster. Using vMotion, I was able to do the project with absolutely no downtime!

Finally, I have updated versions of material to version 7 and put to update VMware tools for all the virtual machines in a controlled manner which corresponded with our routine systems maintenance windows. I'm very uncomfortable with the scenario and happy to help someone who needs guidance.

  • Virtual Center Sql 2005 MDF corrupted file need help... Backup had same drive... Yes, I'm serious...

The mdf for my virtual Center vsphere4 db file sql 2005 is corrupted and can not be recovered. What is the best way to get back online? Any help would be great. I still have the FLA...

the .ldf will contain the log files. If you have a corupt file, then you would be better to just create a new instance of the DB, change your ODBC settings and do a reinstall of the vCenter

.. If you have a backup somewhere, you can restore, which will save you some difficulties in the reconstruction of your instance of vCenter together.

  • The upgrade to vSphere in an environment of BladeCenter with 15 GB hd by blade

    Hi all

I have a test environment with a BladeCenter S chassis with 2 hs21 xm blades with esx 3.5 update 4 configured as a cluster 2 nodes. I would like to use this as a test environment for all update scenarios 3: update manager, update of host and new installation utility.

My blades have 15 GB of local disk on a solid space state double drive, now I know the minimum suggested for COS is 8 GB, 10 GB every, but my current layout of disc (the default installation of esx 3.5) will not put the COS. VMDK in local storage, which is something I don't like for future production upgrades of the scenarios. This is my current layout:

    Disk/dev/sda: 14.9 GB, 14999879680 bytes

    Heads of 64, 32 sectors/track, 14305 cylinders

    Units = cylinders of 2048 * 512 = 1048576 bytes

Device boot start end blocks Id system

    / dev/sda1 * 1 100 102384 83 Linux

    / dev/sda2 101 5100 5120000 83 Linux

    FB/dev/sda3 5101 11680 6737920 unknown

    f/dev/sda4 2688000 14305 11681 Win95 Ext'd (LBA)

    / dev/sda5 11681 12224 557040 82 Linux swap

    / dev/sda6 12225 14206 2029552 83 Linux

    14207 14305 CF 101360 unknown sda7

As you can see that my current local data store is about 6 GB, which is not enough. I was wondering if there is something I could do to make room for the COS. VMDK

Another curiosity I have is what happens if I do a new install of vSphere? He will be able to use this space to put the COS. VMDK locally? I guess it will be since I tested vSphere on a Virtual Machine with 10 GB drive and it worked.

I hope someone can give me a hint on how to set the COS locally without a new installation. Thanks in advance for your support.

Device boot start end blocks Id system

    / dev/sda1 * 1 100 102384 83 Linux

This is the boot partition, do not touch it

    / dev/sda2 101 5100 5120000 83 LinuxRoot or/var

    FB/dev/sda3 5101 11680 6737920 unknown

It's the VMFS partition. Can be deleted as long as it's empty (do not want to lose your virtual machines)

    f/dev/sda4 2688000 14305 11681 Win95 Ext'd (LBA)

Beginning of the extended partition. Cannot be changed unless you move all of the contained partitions also.

    / dev/sda5 11681 12224 557040 82 Linux swap

Swap partition, referenced in/etc/fstab with label, UUID, or/dev/sda5. Can be spoiled safely with as long as you update fstab to point to the correct swap ultimately partition

    / dev/sda6 12225 14206 2029552 83 Linux

    root or/var partition

    14207 14305 CF 101360 unknown sda7

    vmkcore partition, not critical

My suggestion would be to try to remove the vmfs partidion and expand your second linux partition to be large enough to hold the contents of what is in/dev/sda6. Then copy, for example, using rsync and put to day/etc/fstab to mount/dev/sda6.

Then, you should be able to remove the whole extended partition and reuse free space to build a new vmfs, swap and vmkcore.

Keep in mind that these are destructive operations - you can start making an image DD of the entire disk to another location, like a drive USB or NFS share on the network. In this way you can restore all of the disk using dd if = of = / dev/sda if you need to.

You can enable auditing or go with LOGON trigger. LOGON trigger must check if the session is from isqlplus. If so, then enable tracing for this session.
