SRM Test Layer2

We are preparing for a trial of DR in April and run a couple of tests "minis". We run cx480 EMC with Recoverpoint. We bought SRM and with the Layer2 up works perfectly. But during our test we similate the disaster by 'cut' the Layer2. But when we run a test of our stimulus package, it fails with the error - failed to create snapshots of the replica devices. Failed to create the snapshot of the replica 12044 consistency group. SRA command 'testFailoverStart' failed for the '12044' consistency group. My understanding is that it works with a recovery instead of a test but I am quite nervous about recovery once our scenario is completed. I don't want to back changes made during the trial of return to our Production data center

Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

If your recovery test works, then as long as your LUN is mirrored without error, this error is 'normal', as it tries to replicate before the failover and the rest of your Recovery Plan should continue successfully. If you want to be sure that your virtual machines will rise on recovery Site properly with the data before disconnecting network SAN or cracking, then do a planned first migration.

  • DR SRM Test: activate Resingature

    Hello

We have SRM 5.1, 5.1 VC and ESX 4.1 in our environment.  I'll perform the test of DR. Do I have to value the parameter enable re-signature 1 manually on the site of recovery, before running the test from DR.

    Amit

I raised the SR for it and got the following response from VMware

LVM. EnableResignature must be set to 0 before the start of the trial of DR failover.  SRM set to 1 during the recovery plan and after that completion of the LUN must be automatically reset to 0.

  • SRM Test AD/DNS vs AD/DNS recovery failover recovery

I read: http://communities.VMware.com/docs/doc-11517 and it seems that for a real failover SRM DDNS must manage VMS failover commissioning with a new IP (using MRS IP Customizer) using AD/DNS server that is running always on recovery (using built-in replication AD) site.

Given that the bulk of failovers will actually failovers of test on the test network, how to make an AD/DNS server in the failover of the test?   Is it acceptable to replicate AD/DNS via SRM for purposes of test failovers?   If so, how would be to change the IP address on the test without problem AD/DNS Failover?  Also, I can create a test failover that includes VM AD/DNS and exclude the recovery plan even when to run in failover mode?

    Thank you

By creating a script of MRS who clone the DC on the recovering site, then it adds to the bubble test VLAN for the stimulus plan.

  • SRM Test

    Hi all

I just want to ask, in the course of trial SRM (press the button 'Test'), is it true protégé, and site recovery must have interconnection between them? I ask because I failed a trial SRM (partial DR) recently and one of the requirement during this partial DR is to break the interconnection between HQ & DR site, it make sense the error I got was related to SRM connection between protected & recovery site issue. BTW, I have no problem real failover (press the 'Run' button) so far.

And no problem so run away RS test for other clients since we don't actually break the link between protected & recovery site.

    My configuration:

    • SRM 4.1 + last SRA
    • HP EVA 4400 + 9.03 view command

    Thank you

    Hello

From what I could find seems that MRS does not require connectivity between sites.

However some securities regulators is required (at the level of storage). I have no saying which of them need and are not in the list.

You can contact HP to check if this is necessary for your SRA.

  • SRM test - failure storage caused Reset

    Hi all

Everyone had a problem during the test SRM that when the test finished his last step, so: -.

    11 reset storage Post Test

They have experienced such a load on their SAN that it disk latencies and cause outages for all virtual machines on those LUNs?

We have done so far here two tests and have experienced this, when you make more than 4 LUNs, essentially when the SAN is trying to make a copy after splitting pairs he hammers storage if loud as all the virtual machines on these huge experience LUN disk wait and ultimatly unresponsive.

    Environment: -.

    ESXi 4.1

    HDS AMS2300 SAN

We raise the issue with VMware and HDS ourselves as it seems that the copying to integrate synchronization pairs at SRM startup, it uses the copy default pace that is 100% hammers so therefore the SAN doing.  We did a test only Lun 4 and it was ok, but our test of full scale of LUN 11 caused a breakdown finally.

We are planning to bring down our MRS. in the smallest of the Recovery Plans that do not have both LUN at a time that should get out us of this, but wondering what other people are doing?  With all LUNS recovery plan? or separate recovery Plans?

    See you soon

Abandonment of the copy of the PACE at 1 for all pairs of continuous has solved this problem. Check your copy of the PACE on your pairs and if you have issues drop again to 1.

  • on the prerequisites for the installation of SRM 5.8

    Dear Guys

IM new to SRM. I want to install SRM 5.8 in a test environment. I have 2 Server ESXi for SRM testing.

    1. is it possible to install and configure SRM with these two server and without storage shared ? all virtual machines with vcenter and vsphere replication and srm on the local storage of these servers.
    2. is - this required that the vcenter to configure on linked mode?

The srm 5.8 installation guide has not explicitly mentioned on these issues to me.

    Hello

Yes, you can only use vSPhere replication and a bond that I shared before can be used as reference for the application of vSphere replication.

  • Upgrade test lab to U4 - lost access to the premises of SATA storage

Wonder if anyone has seen this when upgrading ESX of U3 to U4.  My laboratory ESX servers are based on the motherboards desktop, the ASUS P5E-VMDO (processors quad core, 8 GB RAM).  All the way up to and including the 3 update, installing ESX recognized the SATA controllers on board and I was able to use the local VMFS partitions.  In fact, this is where I had installed my Lefthand Networks VSA SRM test and demo-ing.  The upgrade to U4 has apparently updated drivers SATA for ESX and server does not see the SATA controllers on board.  The laboratory is still quite functional due to the Openfiler SAN I, but I can choose to downgrade to U3 ESX hosts, unless I can find a solution, so I can always access the local storage.

    Anyone got tips?

Assuming that you do not use a RAID function on board with your SATA, see if your system BIOS has an option to portray the ICH9 controller as something else - achi if it is avaiable or portray SATA in IDE, if it's available and see if ESX 3.5 Update 4 it resumes after a reboot. You'll want to write to its original position first before making changes if you can put if none of this works.

  • Publish with seizure of writable on the recovery storage

    Hello

I received the following error message when I try to recover a virtual machine, Windows 2012 R2 on a 100G data store and an attached physical RDM mode:

The establishment's SRM 5.5.1.8569, with IBM SVC on sites running SRA version 2.3.0.  The RDM presents itself very well on the recovering site, but the data store the virtual machine is on gives the above error.

Any help would be most appreciated.

    Thank you

    Thom

I solved this problem today.  It turns out that the storage should not be mapped to the ESXi hosts on the recovering site.  Guide the user to the SRA had only to a requirement of configuration.  Once I deleted the mapping drives, cleaned the mirrors and plan and groups protection recovery and re run the test that it worked fine.

  • Bubble protected inner IP routing

We recently re - ip had our network and are now using several VLANs within our production (protected) network.  Front of re - ip'ing, we had a dish network (1 vlan)

Since the re - ip initiative, we have not conducted a SRM test for one of our groups.  Within our groups, virtual machines are all different VLAN.

When we realize a SRM test and failover to the protected bubble, someone can think of a way that we can perform the routing to the protected bubble breast so all virtual machines, which are on different subnets, can still communicate with the other IP?

    Thanks in advance

    Sorry about that.

However, there is a list of devices to virtual router on the vmware site.  Maybe one of them can help you do what you're trying to do.

    http://www.VMware.com/appliances/directory/cat/0?k=router

Also, I should mention that if the VMS need to communicate between hosts, they should have an uplink to the physical switch.

Fortunately, if you're trunking this virtual router uplink will manage the rest.  Just don't have the virtual router have a default gateway.  You want the router to "route" traffice between your virtual machines in the network of bubbles, but you won't be able to connect to your production site.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

  • Testing failover with VMware vCenter / SRM and SQL on protected volume.

OK, MRS. works well in test mode, although we would like to test a failover / then backspace over the weekend...

We run SQL 2012 on a virtual machine as well as vCenter/SRM on another virtual machine, both on the protected volumes.

If the failover stops all VM, makes a new replication then turns on the virtual machine on the DR site, it would fail because we had SQL and SRM on a protected volume?  I can understand moving protected site vCenter / SRM VM to another volume, but SQL Server is also used for other data bases we want protected.  My guess is that MRS is not smart enough to not stop SQL server last.  What should do?  What is everybody doing?

    Thanks in advance.

You need a RS and SRMDB on both sites. The SRM on the site of DR will manage the entire process and not the vcenter/srm on the production site.

    BTW. a Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express (R2 SP1) - 64-bit is supportet to SRMDB. Check partnerweb.vmware.com/.../interop_matrix.php

  • SRM (5.5) Test failover fail to power on multiple machines

SRM (5.5) Test failover fail to turn on several machines withSRM failed to Test failover to power on multiple machines with the error - the timeout of waiting for VMware Tools after 300 seconds operation: 900 seconds timeout of waiting for VMware Tools after 300 seconds operation has expired: 1200 seconds operation exceeded: 1 200 seconds.

Note: the virtual machines have updated the VMware ESXi host (protected site and recovery) tools running on the same build version.

Here since the vmware tools are the heartbeat of VM (guest OS must load and send a heartbeat) to avoid this overall, you can also uncheck under option, so the vmwaretools would not wait and loads successfully.

Right-click the virtual machine in the stimulus package and select Configure.

Go to the Start Action > Power On > wait for VMware tools.

Or as the only option to get out of this recommendation is to increase the timeout value, however it has been confirmed that this behavior is that during the test above fail and real failure during work very well even if does not meet any specific setting.

Steps to change the time-out value:

Right-click the virtual machine in the stimulus package and select Configure.

Go to the Start Action > Power On > wait for VMware tools.

Change the default value of 5 minutes to 15 minutes.

  • 5.8 SRM - Transparent list Machines after a Test

Hi, I was hoping someone could answer to that?

I want to use SRM 5.8 with EMC MirrorView for ABR to see if this configuration was 'good', I had MirrorView reproduce a single data store that contains the files vmdk for 5 virtual desktops.  At the time, EMC Unisphere showed that the primary and secondary images are Active and in harmony, respectively.

Then I install the SRM part and then ran a test.  The test was good, so I then ran a Clean Up.  The Web Client vSphere shows that the Clean Up has been successful.  However, the server inventory target vCenter, I see my 5 virtual desktop listed there. I do not mean that registration of these 5 introduce yourself as "grey" but more transparent.  The transparent icon next to each of the guests to show up with a yellow lightning bolt.

Is this normal?  Should the cleaning withdrew these?  I hesitate to just, right-click and delete these jobs of the vCenter target.  I get a warning that they are managed by RS, but the delete is only available for me.  In earlier versions of SRM (at the time of 4.0), I don't think I remember seeing these machines on the vCenter target after a test/clean upwards.

The two sites are running 5.5U2, ESXi 5.5U2, SRM 5.8 vCenter.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you in advance.

  • How managing RecoverPoint SRM VM test and actual failovers?

Try to understand how EMC RecoverPoint manages failovers of SRM VM.   It deals with and the real test failovers differently?    For example, for failovers of test should I use SAN snapshots and real failovers promotes a LUN because failure could be a long time?   In addition, where these snapshots and LUN does work for?   The VNX target or some hybrids of VNX + RecoverPoint.

I was not able to find an article on this architecture.

    Thank you

    -MattG

Fix Matt, any block storage is provided by your VNX and all I/O will be finally served by newspaper or copy/data source LUN.  My apologies for any confusion!  On the performance, take a look at this blog post.  The author does a great job of outline quite unique I/O behavior of journal RecoverPoint and his unit number logic, something absolutely consider when the design of the VNX pools.  I personally always stick with standard FLARE LUN to reviews and never magazines supply workloads from one pool other accommodation, I don't have to.

  • Can we create a Vlan without SRM for disaster recovery testing

We are working on plans for our recovery after disaster in our VMWare environment.  We have a recovery Site which has a NETAPP file server we reproduce our VM data warehouse and SQL data.   We have no RS, but must be able to test if possible disaster recovery with Production upwards.   Is it possible to configure a VLAN and do a test isolated Dr. without SRM?   Thank you

Welcome to the VMware communities forum.

You can create a VLAN without SRM.  You will need to properly set up your network hardware, and then you add new virtual machine port groups to your ESXi hosts.  You can then save the virtual machines by giving them a different name and starts in isolation.  When you attempt to save the virtual machines they will always have a reference for the port VM production group so you'll want to make sure you update you turn on.
